South Mississippi forecast with Meteorologist Aaron Colby

e hey there south Mississippi this is me theologist Aaron Colby let's take a look at what we're expecting as we go into this afternoon and we'll also be taking a couple looks at a couple other things like your for for forecast for Friday as well as a look at what's going on out in the tropics so we start here you can see here that we're beginning to see a couple popup showers and thunderstorms across the region not much here in south Mississippi at the moment but we are beginning to see a little bit of cloud cover moving mainly from south to North and you can see here most of the showers are currently near Hattisburg over at Interstate 55 just west of Hattisburg south of Jackson also over in close to Pensacola that's going to be in Balwin County Alabama and very close to Gulf Shores um also Orange Beach those areas getting some thunderstorms at the moment when rville lots of scattered showers out there in South Central Mississippi or South Central Alabama here in south Mississippi we're just dealing with mainly cloud cover at the moment you can see here on the IP Casino camera things are actually pretty cloudy at the moment we're beginning to see a lot more cloud cover you can see those small cumulus clouds if we bring this up to full you can see right there lots of those very puffy cholis clouds and that's a pretty good indicator that it's one extremely hot and we're beginning to see a little bit of that upward motion helping to develop some of these showers and storms as we begin to head into those afternoon hours now of course there are heat alerts out for South Mississippi take a look at this excessive heat warning for our Coastal counties this going to be for Jackson Harrison and Hancock County as well as Pearl River County for stone and George you guys are under a heat advisory that's going to continue both of those until about 6:00 p.m. that's typically when we do begin to see it cooling down these are out because we are still seeing those extreme heat index values of course for today between 112 to 118 and of course when it's above 113 we can see a very high risk for things like heat stroke heat exhaustion so you want to take your precautions make sure that you're drinking plenty of water taking frequent breaks if you're going to be spending time outdoors and of course try and stay in air conditioning whenever possible take a look at the temperatures of across the area 132 at the moment and you're seeing temperatures already in the low to Upper 90s quite a large spread across the area right now seeing a couple in the very low 90s 91 there in stennis 93 in popperville 94 in the kill as we head into those mid90s and closer to our coastal areas 94 in gulport 92 in buuy look at that 97 over in Moss points and look at our heat index values at the moment once again it's now 133 and you're seeing heat index values above a 100 above 110 in some areas goce there at 117 right now pikun 114 Wiggins and soer both at 105 as well as vanlave and of course there in gulport feels like 107 very very hot conditions as we continue into the afternoon and as long as we keep these showers away from us then we're going to continue to increase that heat index of course by the midafternoon here within the next few hours we could be seeing those heat index values across the area between 112 to 118 your high for today in the upper 90s around 97 mainly for our coastal areas and of course there's a chance for some spotty showers similar to what we saw yesterday some of these showers could become strong at times some of these storms could also become fairly strong at times main threats would be very heavy rainfall very frequent lightning small hail as well as Gusty wins we'll have to keep an eye on this as we head into the afternoon hours very similar to yesterday if any of these do become strong this would likely be between 3 and 600 p.m. right as those heat advisories begin to go off so let's take a look at Future casts for both today and tomorrow for today as we head into the afternoon hours once again very spotty showers and storms maybe not as numerous as we saw yesterday we still could see quite a few showers and storms moving across the area by about 700 p.m. most of them complet complely out of the area and then we go into tomorrow possibly a little bit more numerous as we do catch a lot more showers and storms as we head into tomorrow afternoon this is about 1: p.m. on Friday you can see there quite a few showers and storms already showing up 3 pm you do begin to see a couple more of them show up and then as we head into those late afternoon hours they do begin to dissipate some of the stronger ones typically will appear around this time as you head into tomorrow evening things do clear out once again now let's take a quick look at what's going on out in the Tropics of course we're taking a very close look at well currently we're not seeing a ton happen right now of course there are no major threats out in the tropics at the moment the only area we're watching is category 1 hurricane Ernesto which is now beginning to move towards the island of Bermuda out in the Atlantic and take a look at what Ernesto looks like at the moment and you can see there it's a pretty you know healthy looking system it's still has Winds of about 855 mph still a category 1 but has been showing signs of strengthening over well quite the past few hours and as it continues to move towards Bermuda we are expecting this to strengthen into a category 2 storm and of course as it moves through Bermuda and then to the north we should begin to see it weaken again as it starts moving over those colder Waters and you can see continues up towards Canada where it does eventually dissipate into a low pressure system quick look at the 7-day forecast of course things are going to stay pretty hot here in south Mississippi over the next couple of days good news about the tropics there are no threats to the mainland United States uh at this time there are no threats elsewhere other than hurricane aresto as it approaches Bermuda and you take a look here in 7-day forecast we're going to continue to see those afternoon showers and storms as we head into the next couple of days by next week we do get a cold front try to settle into the area doesn't quite reach us so it won't really drop our temperatures very much however we do get the opportunity to see some drier conditions less rainfall and temperatures will hold steady in about the mid to Upper 90s similar to what we did see earlier this week so thanks for watching we're going to be continue to track both the tropics as we head into the peak of hurricane season and of course we are going to continue to keep a very close eye on these afternoon showers and storms once again again for today and tomorrow showers and storms today very spotty in nature but some of these could become strong once again the primary threats with these would be very frequent lightning very heavy rain and the possibility for wind gusts as well as very small hail
