provide the depth of that position and indeed we've already been stretched we've seen one guy on this list and one guy not in this list that have already left this game with injuries and Chris Boyd and Brandon Hill vacancy gives you opportunities so the guys that fill in now have a chance to show something on film from the 30 yd line on first down Austin Scott trying to Pivot out of the back field and there's nowhere to go excellent penetration miles Bryant among those who got into the back field for the Texans and Kevin to you to our point about the defensive back depth there's a guy number 30 in Miles Bryant you'll see him right there near the line of scrimmage and look he's not much bigger than Boston Scott he's about 5'8 195 lbs but when you talk about football player sometimes we forget that great athlete can run just the guy's a good football player mil Bryant is that he is a really good football player who knows what opportunity opens up for him and a play like that goes a long way to show them what he can do if he makes his 53-man roster toss play to Scott trying to get the edge he cannot strung out nicely nudging him out was D'Angelo Ross and it'll bring up third and long and Ross is going to get credit for that tackle taking him out of bounds but the entire defense they just made that play go east and west and he never really had opportunity to get up fi and with his defense and we've seen this iteration today but we've also seen it a couple of times against the Steelers and last week against the Giants I feel like overall Team Speed is better for this group than I've seen in a long time you see it that way speed and awareness and just understand that we all have to run to the ball which you see there and that definitely comes from Deo third down and nine wi facing a four-man Rush going deep down the sideline and he overshot Sam wiggas his intended receiver Troy Pride out there running stride for stride with the former Ohio product Sam wiggas you pride is a guy we talked about Chris Boyd a little bit earlier to me Boyd and pride kind of fighting for that spot be a special teams guy that can also in a pinch go out there and play Corner Troy's a first of all he's got the most beautiful eyes on the team I've ever seen secondly that kind of thing playing Corner he's been pretty active this this spring or this training camp out at corner looking pretty comfortable at times outside of the Hall of Fame game had some struggles against Colin Johnson but if he could put it together on special teams with a couple of real good covers maybe a shot for Troy Pride to make this team flag down as Taylor Fields the punt there's a hat off where the flag is so somebody went out of bounds on the way down to cover that punt I know there's a section of roof that's open right now after the storm but it's not windy in here enough to knock a hat off the kicking team was out of bounds too long before coming in Bound that 15 yd penalty will be added to the dead ball spot first down I've always laughed at that rule because it's so subjective to say hey you're out of bounds too long who's going to determine your effort trying to get back in bounds it I believe the gentleman who didn't have a hat off is the guy who's going to determine it or how does he determine I guess I should say whether or not you really attempting to get back in it feels very very arbitrary it's not like he's sitting there with like his Apple watch going yes Taps it Taps it oh 2.5 seconds that's too long like I don't know how you figure it out I guess it's guess it's a Fu thing and now we see Tim Bole going into the game so Tim Bole making his first appearance of the afternoon in this continuing battle for the number three spot on the quarterback chart Texans defense three three and outs in four Rams possessions first and 10 for Bole from the 42 targeting Mei and Mei with his first catch and a nice spin to get yardage and a first down and that we'll get him excited on the Houston sideline maybe about a half yard short but an excellent play by me one word to describe that move nasty look at that move you to to to fake that you're going in and to go outside when you're that close to the sideline the defensive back doesn't expect that skirt you see that right there and he still stays inbounds and picks up another four yards that was a beautiful move me is really getting confident in his skills you got to feel for that defensive end Brennan Jackson being out there in space but what a nice little spin move from Mei hit the x button or Circle or whatever it is nowadays and here's the guy that a lot of people talked about early in this preseason joar Jordan the sixth round pick in the draft out of Louisville in that deep running back room I'm anxious to see what kind of Headway he makes today we've talked about it when I talked with him this spring I said who who did you emulate who was your guy he said Shady McCoy and ND you know Shady he's not quite that shady had a little bit more uhuh he had a little bit more of that his jarz is a little bit slipperier it's a little bit smoother it's kind of a one cut and go as opposed to stop jump cut and go but boy he's got that slipperiness that makes him fun to watch to the sideline targeting British Brooks and Brooks providing a little bit of punishment at the end of that play I mean he's 5'11 20 30 lbs and he's showing you right there that he could catch out of the back field what I like about that play John not only does he catch the ball he keeps his balance it would have been real easy for him to just fall down get the reception he keeps his balance then he's able to plug forward for an extra four or five yards yeah you see him he was out as kind of an HB wing and he chipped to help out his right tackle Killian Zer then he got out in the flat they had British Brooks and jar Jordan on the field at the same time and now you see British on the field with Cam Acres I like this look for the Texans and Acres weaving his way to the right sideline cam Acres delivering pman inside the 15 first down Houston at the 14 of Los Angeles and you talk about having both of those backs in right there British Brook served as a fullback you see him making the block and then camer is doing what he's been doing for the last few weeks showing that vision and right there showing that strength I'm telling you people think oh he's not big he's not big big well Jason Taylor just found out it doesn't matter if he's big f equals ma it's Newton's second law that was force driving through Jason Taylor the second long Rush of the preseason as Acres takes it 23 first down Acres again and he's upended as he tried to cut outside got the pins knocked out from under him and it'll bring up second down and again look at British Brooks because we talked about him early on this is a guy trying to make the team and prove that he could play fullback tight end and running back you see him at the fullback position what does he do he seals off the outside rusher and allows cam acres to get up field British Brooks trying to show that he's very versatile when it comes to playing football on the offensive side of the ball you're looking to make a roster hey British we want you to punt okay yeah we want you to play center okay whatever you want that man to do he's going to do to try and make this roster and I like the look of it thus far andd of him kind of being an HB back fullback sort of mix second and eight to the sideline go Bole connects with Hutchinson who's Jarred out violently by cam lampin at the 8 yd line third and four coming up for the Texans as we have reached the end of the first quarter in Houston Rams and Texans noted up at three but de o Ry it's a Lamar Jackson kind of day yes it is there's a lot of good football players across the field in different positions there's one Lamar Jackson in the NFL let me loosen up just ask me if I ever played basketball you serious I've ever played huh I was really into basketball no never never I knew football was was something that was really really good at but basketball was my love that's what that's where I had passion and I wanted to go be on a good basketball team I watched Bo Jackson uh two sport athletes so and Deion Sanders was big back then so I was like I want to be one of these two against the backup of the Rams and I know this term is used too often when we talk sports but that's a the culture of the team because we're going to see the same thing when the first teamers playing against first team defenses in the regular season so I I like what you bring up that's just how this team is made up now arston in the back field with Jordan fourth down and one Nick Bon just signed in motion play fake the toss it's harston it's a Texans touchdown tell that guy this team doesn't matter this game doesn't matter you know this is somebody that played defensive line he was hurt last year moves to defens excuse me to fullback so he needs to show everybody in the entire league what he can do and not only can he block he can come out of that back field and touch a 5 yard touchdown pass yeah that was one heck of a pick I mean rub route there for the Texans either way it works Troy Harrison's first touchdown in the NFL I love that stuff Mei last week this week Troy Harriston I'd love seeing guys score for the first time and that's why you saw the snow angel in the end zone Great drive there from Tim boy extra point from Fair Baron is good and the Texans have a 10 to3 lead during the break we were talking with Shelby Copic and she let us know on the sideline that Case Keenum prior to that start to the drive went up the tunnel towards the Texans locker room as soon as we get an update on case we'll pass it along but again this has been a rough first half for the Houston Texans from a health standpoint already with two defensive backs being carded off although we did see Chris Boyd back on the sideline a moment ago limping around with his left leg wrapped for Houston it's some decisions will have to be made and first and foremost your thoughts are with Case Keenum and you pray and hope that it's not that serious of an injury but if you're the coaching staff when a defensive back gets hurt you say ah you know what maybe we can move this safety to quarterback vice versa but when it's a quarterback and you're down to one if anything happens to that one surviving quarterback then what do you do yeah you see Bill laser on the left there guy faced Cornell back in 1993 J Johnson's who's superstar in the coaching business those two guys are telling Tim Bo look Tim here's the deal you're the guy you don't take any chances none you don't scramble you throw the football away you're one guy here's the tough part for Tim though he wants to show that he can be that guy if something is indeed not right with case so he still got to try and show it off he had a seeing on special teams Brandon Hill go off the field you're seeing it now you're like let's hey let's just get everybody safe out let's get some work in let's make sure everybody ends up being safe with the Rams and Tyler Johnson for the number six wide receiver spot he gets a first down out across the 40 you know Joy practices this week Kevin I wonder how much the Rams took a look at the Texans wide receivers you're thinking about them being in a battle for five or six for them like a bias I want the Texans receivers to all have an opportunity to play in the league I think these guys on the Texas side are better than what are on the Rams side wonder how much the Rams spent time watching these Texans receivers and what that joint practice might mean for them if they're able to look over and say hey we watched that kid in practice he was pretty good maybe we can get him as a waiver claim in Adam toar 53 man roster so that's one of the things that a lot of people are talk about the joint practices but I know those Scouts are out there on both sides watching the opposing team and taking notes and seeing how they practice all that if indeed they want to make a move uh which could happen yeah it's a great opportunity Andy for players but it's also a great opportunity for the front offices no absolutely I mean you talk about the the war board that they have throughout the entire year they definitely have guys that they know they've evaluated they scouted so if there t comes a time where you need somebody who what they say on the street you remember what he did during that week of practice and you say let's bring them in for that Tuesday workout and for those that don't know every Tuesday in the NFL is where free agents who aren't attached to a team are able to come out the A and the B Gap actually got extended between the A and the Sea Gap because it was so wide and you really have to be cognizant as a rusher to make sure you're not giving up those Rush LS tough is that though andd you think you see an opening and you jump over there and also the quarterback how tough is that for a d linean it's very tough because you see the opening but as soon as you jump a good quarterback sees his opening and then he takes it like we saw right there Evans a good turn up field gets down to the 26 yd line four yd gain on the play Lonnie Johnson in there on the stop for Houston I know this will come is no surprise especially to you two guys cuz we've been together now for three games but my mind works in mysterious weird ways I he that even before we work together the joint practi is because you see so much of that Jet Sweep motion with the Rams you've seen it with Shawn McVey since he got there and he said all that pre- snap stuff and the Jet sweeps all really beneficial for our team Kevin in practice on Thursday now I didn't watch the Rams offense I would flipflop which one I was watching I promise you every sing sing Le play I watched the Rams had a man in motion a shift a motion and adjustment of some sort there was somebody moving on every single play 11th play of the drive third down and six five receivers for dresser win over the middle catch is made and it's a first down Xavier Smith on the grab to the 15 a pick up of 11 yeah that's tough miles Bryant's got outside leverage meaning he's on the outside of Smith and when you see that you're thinking hey I've got help on the inside that help was little Lake getting over there so I can imagine miles a little upset but nice pitch and catch there for first down for the Rams Austin Scott lowers the shoulder pads and down to the 10 yd line 6yd gain on first down for Scott that's a big gain when you talk about where they are on the field and running in between the guards and it was a gap Integrity I can't I I don't know exactly which player it was but the defensive tackle did a good job getting upfield but then he spun out of his Gap and when coaches talk Gap Integrity they always want to make sure one man one Gap and it makes it easier for the linebackers to flow and make plays and when that one player gets out of his Gap you have that big opening [Applause] Scott again bobbing and weaving in the back field and he'll end up with a yard to the N9 yd line sets up a third down and three Rams offense has been marching this football but a pivotal moment for these Texans Defenders can they get the stop here and Kevin dy's point that was Gap Integrity everybody staying in the Gap where they need to be you got a gap I got B Gap you got C Gap you don't go into business for yourself and everybody do doing it right you get the Swarm to the football and that's what we saw on that just slow that to about a one yard game third down and [Applause] three wi pressure comes flag is down on the far sideline wi sidearm into the end zone that's incomplete and another flag is down at the goal line so we may have two penalties one's going to be a defensive hold the near side flag let's see about the far side flag I think one's going to be a hold against 59 Marcus Harris because he had a nice swim move there are two fouls both against the defense upside Defense number 79 that penalty is declined prior to the pass holding Defense number 27 that'll be a 5y penalty in automatic first down that's Troy Pride they take the penalty that gets the automatic first down okay Andy I got a question for you Malle Fischer is the guy who ends up he's the top of the screen on the defensive right how often would officials throw a flag on you for offside as a d lineman early in the game without warning you hey you need to back up a little bit because that was where Malik after the offside was like what he thought he was onside how often will an official say to a defensive lineman hey back up or they just throw the flag right away speaking like a man who's been on the field that's typically what they do hey 94 you off sides make sure you back up they'll give you that heads up the good one Evans up the middle and Evans into the end zone for the touchdown Zack Evans coming back home to Houston finds the end zone to bring the Rams within one a good drive there by dresser win and the Rams got a little help on that third down penalty but good double team at the point of attack by left guard left tackle the Rams and Zach's going to find that and get in the end zone like I said earlier he's been in that end zone a few times having played at Northshore glad to see that for him he was the guy when he left High School it was Rocky you mentioned him Kevin being the number one recruit in the country things after that didn't go exceedingly well for Zach at various stops I just would like to see him get a chance cuz that guy is super super talented off the upright and the extra point is no good and the Rams still Trail by one in Houston [Music] how athletic and how big he is for a quarterback like he's the same size as as dn's out there so he's got a unique ability to make plays on the Run he never gives up on a play he's always trying to make the big play so a guy like that he's always present challenges we've had some battles for years so he's he's a hell of a [Music] player do you think should be number one top 100 I'd be silly if I didn't go with my guy Josh Allen [Music] so Josh Allen didn't take the number one spot this year but top 12 on the players list is still quite an accomplishment man that guy can make plays in any type of way just a big arm you know what I'm saying can throw the ball down field Allen takes the snap pocket to be tougher than any other team when it comes to the weather trainers are all over the players they have a spot to go inside which which cools them off and takes their body to back to basic temperature within 90 degrees however Ryan said I don't even want to know how hot it is outside I don't want to know how hot the field is I want players to be as tough as possible for when it come game time Kevin well Shawn McVey was really excited about the heat at those joint practices now he was at least saying that in the media I don't know if he was really excited about it I know ND is always excited about the heat I will say this though I was excited practicing in the heat because on Sundays you felt like and you told yourself you know what I made it through that two a day during August I can make it through this game so Deigo is absolutely right the tougher you practice in this heat the easier the games are in the regular season flag is down boil to the sideline Hutchinson with the catch and then banged out by lampin we'll see about this flag our referee today is Scott Novak legal motion on the offense number eight that's a 5-yard penalty second down didn't get set as he came in motion to the near side well that's one of the things the NFL officials are focusing on is not letting that guy go in motion either starting towards the line of scrimmage now there Mei had to come to a complete stop and that's you know Tim's got to help him out a little bit but that's one of the things that teams you West Coast offense teams Dolphins they do they have that motion and you send him across and it gets him going and what's happening is when tari Tyreek Hill is going across in motion he starts inching towards the line of scrimmage and now he's got a head start so the NFL officials have said whoa whoa whoa we got to stop that but on that one John was just not not set where he needed to be on that route so after the Jordan run brings up a third and nine for Houston there's mchi fully set after the motion on third down fo looking that direction he finds mie and there's a first down another good catch for John mie thei Shan Jolly on the stop but mey with his second catch this one for 12 yds and not just the catch but the route to find the soft spot of that defense and make sure he gets there and makes it an easy throw for his quarterback and Andy he knows he's getting hit you can see it when he got that ball he kind of went he knew he had the first down because he ran his route like you said perfectly get Beyond his sticks so you can work back and take a hit John Mei just as a football player the last couple of weeks has just risen each and every time and that's really what you want to see in preseason training camp a guy get better the start of training camp was not it was really not that way for him but it really the last two three weeks has risen he's improved his growth is evident and I think that is what's going to eventually lock him into his 53 man roster well you talked about it we've talked about it throughout the preseason there was something about last year he was just just grateful to be on the field he was not necessarily the guy everybody thought he could be coming out of college but the injury lukemia he was just thrilled to be on the field this year there are higher goals in mind for John mie absolutely and I mean listen I can't speak to returning from leukemia only a few people have been able to do that unfortunately the Texans have had that a few different times and now Dylan Horton is going through that as well you I don't know what that takes out of your body um at that point to have to go through that as we see uh that's going to be a flag on a late hit on Tim Bole hopefully they're all getting up okay because that would be the end of our quarterback situation legal use of hands hands to the face on the defense number 69 that's a 5yd penalty here an automatic first down that's former Texan Carlos Watkins called for the flag whether it's preseason regular season you always want to go off against your former team and right there he just wants to show the guys that he still has it but you that the opportunity for him is here in Houston but would it surprised me the quintz seist after being out all of last year would find a spot on NFL roster it wouldn't surprise me at all it really wouldn't he's that talented just couldn't catch up with that one xavior Smith is the Deep man awaiting the punt he'll wave for the fair Catch and makes it at the seven second time today that the Rams he was wearing like a large t-shirt and his biceps were just like ripping out of the thing there's actually a photo of us where we both have our arm around each other and his arm is bigger than mine freshman first day we all come in together and the Vets are all doing a different run than we do and they all have these like weight vests on Christian ran I think put two vests on so he had like 36
