showstopping game against the Lions to earn a place on the 53-man team but he's capable of it that being said there's something that makes you believe he's capable of doing what he needs to to be here next week Logan Lee the Steelers rookie should make the roster and his position flexibility helps but the defensive tackle room is loaded maybe there's not enough room the Steelers are going to keep cam Hayward Larry ogunjobi kenu Benton demarvin Le Dean Lowry and Isaiah Loudermilk they'll likely keep montravius Adams as well there's a chance they keep Lee as well but he's going to have to make sure they're too afraid to lose him if they try to put him on the practice squad Kieran johnson/ Julius wof the Steelers o4 position is still very much so up for grabs somehow it's the most open competition of any Jeremiah Moon probably leads the group but Kieran Johnson has impressed throughout training camp and the preseason and the team continues to put Julius woff out there with the first team that has to mean something the Steelers are going to pick the best of the three and both Johnson and woff are one big play away from being the team's Choice Scotty Miller Scotty Miller may be the most impressive Steelers receiver through two preseason games he's accumulated six catches for 65 yards and led the team in receiving yards with 47 against the Houston Texans the Steelers could start Roman Wilson on injured reserve this season leaving a spot open for Miller even if they don't though Miller is on the verge of making the team as a veteran who's earned his place and knows Arthur Smith's offense well la Michel p/ Jonathan Ward curell Patterson is the Steelers rb3 but with Jaylen Warren dealing with a hamstring injury and Jack ketto probably missing the roster there could be another spot open in the backfield there probably wouldn't even be any consideration if the group was quiet but Jonathan Ward and La Michael pin have built up the noise throughout the summer with both being able to play teams and contribute on offense and both being veterans in this league the team may consider keeping one who is still up for grabs as Ward likely had the lead but after missing last week with a knee injury and his status against the Lions uncertain pin has a great opportunity in front of him Bengals cut former Steelers WRR the Cincinnati Bengals are moving on from former Pittsburgh Steelers training camp star and UFL offensive player of the year hakee Butler after spending some of training camp with the team Cincinnati announced they waved 11 players including Butler Butler spent Last Summer with the Steelers after an impressive XFL campaign the former fourth round pick for the Arizona Cardinals was expected to make some noise and become one of the biggest names to earn his way back into the NFL from the spring leagues ultimately that faded after an underwhelming summer and ended when he was waved SL injured just before the team's final preseason game the 28-year-old has spent time with the Cardinals Carolina Panthers Philadelphia Eagles Steelers and now Bengals he's had some memorable runs in other leagues playing for the St Louis battle Hawks XFL UFL Edmonton Elks CFL and BC Lions CFL the 6'5 wide out could get another shot this season and with 645 yards and five touchdowns in his UFL season it's likely another team tries to test the waters with him even if only on the practice squad as for the Steelers they're in a tough wide receiver spot themselves while Butler likely isn't returning to Pittsburgh the team is looking for their best group of wide receivers and continues to pursue a massive trade with the San Francisco 49ers for Brandon aak right now van Jefferson Calvin Austin and likely Scotty Miller will try to work as a collective behind George Pickins rookie Roman Wilson is another candidate to step into a bigger role once he returns from an ankle injury expect some action for both the Steelers and Butler as the NFL finalizes their 53 man roster in the coming days there's a good chance Butler ends up finding a new home and the Steelers add a name to their roster either through a trade or free agency upgrades in free agency the Steelers must add to fix their overwhelming needs with the Steelers hitting the road to take on the Detroit Lions in their final preseason game there remain plenty of issues with the roster receiver Remains the biggest concern as Pittsburgh remains in every rumor surrounding any potential upgrades that might be available don't forget about other possible issues that might cause concern moving forward if they want a strong team full of depth the Steelers should be considering options on the trade market and free agency when Final Cuts come through everyone should expect the black and go to be searching the waiver wire for players to bring in this roster should not be completed even when the initial 53 man roster get set Hunter Renfro would be a fantastic veteran option at slot receiver slot receiver might be a bigger question mark than the outside receiver options currently on the team perhaps Pat fouth can help ease this problem while Roman Wilson works his way into the NFL one option still out there in free agency is Hunter fro he was once considered one of the best slot receivers in the NFL but now he is just looking for an opportunity to reprove himself the Steelers could add Patrick Peterson to provide some stability right now beanie Bishop is the only starting option to start in the slot at cornerback for the Steelers they need to add an upgrade or two at the position to either push Bishop for the job or add a reliable backup behind him Patrick Peterson is getting older but he proved down the stretch of last season that he can be versatile adding Peterson to the slot would be a nice addition late in the process Scott quessenberry has been named as a potential depth option it was likely Zack Frasier was going to be the starting center at some point anyway but losing Nate herbig for the season due to injury still stings the Steelers would be wise to add an experienced option in free agency to provide quality depth at Center and guard Mason Cole had his name thrown around Scott quesenbery would also make a ton of sense as mentioned by Zachary Smith Pittsburgh won't want to miss out on Justin Houston for a second time rumors swirled years ago that Justin Houston declined an offer from the Steelers to come join them he signed with the Ravens That season now the veteran pass rusher is on the couch waiting for a call to play this year Marcus golden retired during training camp and those behind TJ watt Alex heith and Nick herbick are suspect adding Houston would provide a tremendous depth option Juju Smith Schuster could return to the Steelers in the right situation many will not like the option of the Steelers potentially adding Juju Smith Schuster via free agency he might not be the upgrade the team is looking for but he can add another option who will at least upgrade the depth of the roster we will see if Pittsburgh can land a Top Flight op option via trade but if they can't someone like Smith Schuster could be their fallback option Mike Tomlin outlines Pittsburg Steelers QB plan versus Lions the Pittsburgh Steelers will start Russell Wilson against the Detroit Lions Mike Tomlin said on Thursday Justin Fields will play after him and all other healthy starters will participate in a final pre-season game as well nothing's changed in terms of the positioning of those guys and yes he will start Tomlin said meanwhile as Tomlin has done in the past the final preseason game will simulate a dry run dress rehearsal for the regular season the Steelers did some light game planning for the Lions so they anticipate seeing the offense start to click more with a honden game plan from the coaches as I mentioned in the mindset that it's a dry rehearsal man I want to see the fruit of the labor that I've seen out here on the practice field Tomlin said about his offense we've had some really awesome practice days and shown really good consistency and fundamentals and splash play ability but I haven't seen it in stadium yet so in a perfect world I'd like to see that in the stadium before I move on to provide reps or some other guys that are trying to get a job for themselves through two preseason games the Steelers offense has scored just 15 points yet the starting offense has scored zero points that is not what Tomlin wants to see before the regular season against what will likely be a much improved Atlanta Falcons team Wilson and Tomlin hope to see an efficient performance from the group as for What fields can show Tomlin he wants to see exactly what he sees out on the practice field translate into a stadium so far Tomlin has not seen Fields be the same player in practice as he is against a live pass rush I want to see him show some of the things that we've seen out here in the practice setting Tomlin said M UK like I've talked about the offensive unit we've had some really good days and shown a really high floor with the potential for Splash plays and so I want to see it in the stadium offensive coordinator Arthur Smith limited Wilson schematically in the first game against the bills however Tomlin does not anticipate Wilson being Limited in the game schematic part Mobility wise based on what I've seen out here this week I don't think there are going to be any schematic restrictions Tomlin said Pittsburgh will play the Lions on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Wilson and the rest of the starters getting one more crack at it the Steelers hope to see the fruits of training camp show up for the first time
