it is supposed to be perfect nice okay I love that so much don't there's no rain like a couple years ago when it was that thunderstorm came rolling in and it's Weaver State no it's gonna be it's gonna be beautiful dude it's perfect tailgate weather kickoff at seven yeah you can get off work yeah you can be there on time you should be on time Utah fans come on 7 o'clock it's true you can get to recycles by 7 Gary's going to be tailgating it from what 8 amm why not why not it's a beautiful day gonna sit my canopy and some chairs and kick back couple beverages in you geez more than a couple beverages so well let's let me ask you let me ask you two this are you are you good with playing suu or the first Are you good with playing SUU the first game? game yes I mean we played Florida last year and that was sweet but so this particular year I mean we've played you know other years it's yep you know been like suu but are you good with it well that's what you just said for this particular Year yes I am good with it because I just feel like we need that ramp up last year I loved Florida loved playing um when I thought we were gonna have Cam playing it was very exciting y but this year I I'm okay with the the Slow Burn the slow warm up I feel the same way like I Michigan first game of the year give me that all day every day Florida first game of the year I mean that traditionally I love that right out the gates big game prime time let's go but I'm with you this year with the amount of guys coming back I think it's the schedule is beautiful those first three games I think it's perfect you know I want to see I want to see Isaac Wilson a whole bunch on Thursday too right so some ramp up Baylor comes I I'm good with it this year are you uh yeah I'm usually not yeah I would prefer just to yeah it's it's kind of weird because most of the time I'm I don't like playing this kind of game I'm with you uh but this year for the reason you just said hey I'm good with it yeah uh and I in fact I'm looking at it is the three games where we have suu and then we play Baylor they're in our league it's kind of a weird situation but it is what it is uh no they're not supposed to be that good but heyy they got talent so right you can't Overlook anybody but I think it's great to have them here in our Stadium uh hopefully we can show them what Utah football really is and not that stuff we showed last year when we're on the surface of the Sun so bad and then um we get to go to Utah State and kick the crap out of them I like the fact we have these three games I don't usually think this way uh but I'm good with it so on Thursday yeah man I'm just looking forward I'm glad football's back it's hard for me to connect with it it's agreed okay I mean it's here I just want to watch the I want to watch the team come out I want to watch play football I want them to kick people around I want to throw and run the ball I want to see all of that I've missed it so yeah I'm G I want to just I'll tailgate this go sit there in a nice beautiful evening and watch Utah football and just ramping up for the season maybe that's why that's where I'm at it feels a little bit surreal this week like it's a I don't know like you said I don't like I'm not feeling like it's football yet and maybe it's just because I'm not super excited about the game Thursday you know last year was a different thing with Florida like for weeks we were just talking about it every single day amped up it was exciting Florida was coming here for for the first time ever and so yeah but I I don't know I kind of like the slow part of it this year I think I need some time expectations expectations for this game let's say I honestly I don't know suu I made no Utah vs SUU Preview effort rude to know anything about them other I think they've got a head coach that's back this year I think he's coached for him before I think their main running back if W if I listened to wit today said that their main running back played on our scout team y one time yep um thank you Lonnie appreciate it man um so look no I don't want to look them they they play they don't play in the Big Sky they play in the no they're not United Football League or something like that okay so I mean okay it is what it is it is so I mean Utah just has to go be Utah yeah we'll blow him out and what I expect it's what I hope this cam here's the two number one thing I hope nothing happens to anybody yeah just get out of the game healthy number one no injuries number one number two have Cam and the and the guys come in place even play a quarter rack up 21 they'll play at least a half okay I don't know I don't I don't know just minimal they'll play it throw up some points get off the field I want to see Wilson I want to see what was interesting with wit today that Rose is actually number three though hu they're tight getting tight yes they're getting I've heard that and I I want to get down to the three I want to get them all in the game that's where I want to be yeah all our receivers all our backs no one gets hurt we run up the score and just have a nice night here's the thing cheering Utah football and get this baby go your beverage and there you go a couple beverages be great here's here's the thing a c this happens every time we play Weber State suu the expectations we're going to beat him 72 to nothing and blow him out maybe that happens but a lot of the time that's just not the case and it's first series we go three and out and people in the stands are losing their minds relax okay this is the first time that cam keithy a lot of these guys have played football in 18 months so it might take a little bit I would love it if they were up 28 to nothing at the end of the first quarter and we never saw cam again until Baylor I don't see it you got to keep him in get the rust off keep him upright get the ball out throw it okay get him out and then yeah I'm with you i' would love to see huart in the game it' be fantastic but for some reason I feel like we are G I'm yeah we've had some slow starts in these games we've won 24 nothing and it's like was that was it that happened last year who were we playing that was Florida well we start no it was like the second or the third who was it that we played didn't we play Southern Utah last year was it Su that' be weird though no it wasn't somebody I know I can't think top head is I think this year there's too many guys I'm with you I I just think if unless we just come out and are not ready to play ball which that's not gonna be that is not going to happen no I see it more I'm more confident in Blowing them out in the first quarter and then possibly cam doesn't let hope I would be shocked let's hope Weber State we play thank you Rose it was Weber State it was Weber State yeah it was we it was a it was kind it was closed for a while and then it blew wide open but I just think that it's cam the first half hopefully we don't see him in the third quarter that's kind of my expectation can I just say the spiritual experience it's going to be when cam comes running out on the field for the first time blasphemy James and Bad Moon Rising well blasted I I might cry cry I'm not kidding there's a good chance that I cry and I just am gone forever and what we should do bets for is how many of us are gonna cry when Bad Moon Rising Starts playing and cam runs out there with his gorgeous flowing hair dos out bra this big it's gonna be great man I can't wait I I'm so pumped football baby yeah it it is it's great I'm I'm thrilled I'm with you it's kind of weird that it's it's 72 hours that's it 72 hours from right now nuh do the math I I can't do the math that where's my calculator think about it do the Ma I'll give you guys no it's Monday night and then Tuesday Tuesday night and Thursday 72 less than 72 hours from right now right now we'll be up like 55 to three just I'm with you I didn't look into suu at all but there was someone on the radio they're in a rebuilding mode so it's not even like they're suu yeah they're not even like top so it yeah last year they were were they six and five in the yeah something like that oh enough of them look it's football football it's back Utah football there is a lot to be excited about this season I'm just glad it's here here and the best thing we talked about it at nauseum they came out of Camp overall extremely healthy extremely healthy I think Whit said that we're 70% more healthy this time than we were at this same time last year what can we talk about what's happening on Thursday night yeah that I was gonna yeah oh you are gonna talk about it do it I was gonna bring it up let's talk about Alex Smith everybody welcome into to the show oh that would can you take everyone from just that era I don't know they won't but come on wed it'll be it's gonna be Whittingham sorry to say in the next in the next couple years I mean you can go back dude there's some there's some guys it's great but that means he's going to be here did you see the picture he posted on Instagram yes of his leg did you see that I've seen a pictures of his leg I can't I'm just going that guy was this close to dying his leg looks like that and he went and played in the NFL again it's wild it's wild so I know so that's happen at halftime on Thursday night now I heard when we won't know till we're there everybody I heard the why they got new wi-fi Rice Eccles Upgrades system yes the r which would be so nice if they needed it so bad I could never no you could never consistently get info I couldn't even like send text messages it was garbage so it was bad so that's a great that's the rumor we'll see everybody I heard the concessions are better do you know what what it is I know you can order and like pick it up or something yeah so from what I've read it's mobile ordering is now an option I don't think that's the only way as far as I understand I think you can still walk up I'm sure you can still walk up but it's mobile order which is great and I have heard all the concessions have gone cashless so even if you walk up you can't pay with cash so that's hopefully going to help things go quicker um the one thing which I believe they took this idea from me I'm just gonna say that okay let's hear it the free refills I talked about yes I talked about this after I went to an a Texas a Texas money on me no no no I think what it is I think I read the article about it and so now I'm trying to remember I think you can buy like a cup for the whole year but you get free refills on the cup for the whole year what is the cup first cup 40 bucks 50 bucks or something worth it I don't care but hey I do think they took that idea from me you're welcome everybody I uh I tried to get harand to put like a mountain do tap right at Gary's seat so it's just right there North End Zone crushed ice no no no no yes he doesn't like the crush I like the crushed ice right yep right there baby I tried but Mark said it just was I'd pay seat if I could have the you want delivery to your seat is what you want should be next but but that's wonderful if you go to like the Jazz game or something you do you order it you go up pick it up so hopefully that's gonna help with the congestion security is supposed to be again fingers crossed better I don't know what that means I I heard this this is here I don't know if it's accurate there might be metal detectors too oh oh I read that on Twitter but it was a metal detectors WiFi there was a list of things I I have no way to know if that's true or not screening of some sort yeah so just please be aware of things like that especially for the first game don't walk over five minutes before kickoff because the line's going to be huge give yourself some time to get in but yeah see Amy heard that too so know how my freaking uh I know dang it that my uh my diet red bu does Diet Coke can yeah do they trigger in a mle does anybody know does a a Red Bull can I'm asking for a friend this is hypothetical now that I've done this every game total hypothetical question interesting well hopefully All Tech mice sandwich you can still sneak in your diet coke in the in the plastic twist top I would never do something like that I'm just saying again I would don't call don't say that I would never do anything put it in a baby bottle well I don't have a baby with me so that would be anyways all of these yeah I'm taking plastic flask football baby that's all I care football but yes give yourself time because it always takes longer than you think and get your tickets on your phone download them on your phones you're not trying to pull it up while you're standing there at the gate and you're holding everybody back in the line plan the game's at seven you've got time get over there a little bit early it's the first game thanks Daddy how many times have you freaking been in line and the guy's going wait the tickets are on my phone and you're behind the guy and he's trying to get find his email he can't do it it's him that you're standing behind that he's trying to pull it up on his no he Gary's good I'll come to his take that back I take it back take that back this is the first time I've ever come to his defense no way Gary Gary's it's download tickets 8 months ago he has them already he absolutely they're on his phone he's printed them off he's wish I still like the old tickets I do too I do too I like having them but no man I'm always ready to roll I was it joke it was a joke on beted online and then you're gonna become G's advice all right where are we going next I just let's Utah's upcoming schedule revisit I think we may all know this uh but there's our schedule 2024 um we just talked about suu Baylor and Utah State okay so that three and 0 we should should be three and 0 come on oh absolutely then the big one it's still water Oklahoma state that kicks off the season we still don't have the time for that by the way right we don't we the time for the first three they're holding that one because they know that could be Ian that could be a top 15 match up be a big one so and then we have Arizona at home go to Arizona State we get uh TCU here yep yes that's good yeah then we're at Houston I Believe yeah then we have a game no let me back up so after the Arizona game we have a buy we have two buys this year which I think's you know I guess I wish we didn't on the one hand because you don't want to wait a week we're getting the usfc treatment this year we are but we get two buys is our second buy right before the pat championship game so we right after Arizona we have a buy then we go to Arizona State TCU Houston and then another buy so um and then the end of the season a game and then we play col we go to Colorado at Colorado nov that's going to be so interesting have a foot of snow there yeah or it could be 65 degrees that's how it works out yeah it B I've heard beautiful this is Boulder yeah bould Boulder Boulder man okay Iowa State and then we go to UCF okay the thing about UCF I I gave them props when we gave our predictions and you guys thought I was nuts but you interviewed the dude from Hartland Heartland college sports college sports check out the interview from last week yeah check it out is excellent guy has a lot of insight I thought it was really Fant fantastic but he he said his prediction was Utah UCF in the Big 12 championship game so that last game would be a preview in theory uh yeah which is to me that is that game makes me super nervous I mean it's so far away but right as of this moment in time the ESPN predictor has you UCF winning that game us has us against us 56% I mean geez but think dude fre it's end of the it's the last game of the year across the country the day after Thanksgiving against a talented UCF team there's a lot of things in there that do give me pause I can't think about it we're so far away that's the schedule schedule the schedule I think we have to be honest with ourselves considering the schedule La we had last year and some other previous years to me that's a such a manageable very manageable schedule to get a good record well come on Utes we can do this 100% Arizona at home love that yeah the Oklahoma State game on the road that game makes me nervous we've talked about that a bunch other than that though yeah it's very manageable lot of very winnable games but we gota play the games I'm not saying their roll or I'm just saying H like you look at last year we do have though difficult Road games I mean Oklahoma State UCF and Colorado who knows knows like that but that one in November I think looking just looking right now start of the Season that one gives me a lot of pause too and so our home schedule yeah I'm thrilled that we have Arizona at home and TCU at home but I wish maybe we had one of those other ones at home also because those three away games are going to be hard yeah but you got to win your away if you want to be in the playoff you've got to go on the road and win the win the game go win them you just have to and the talent level's there you got it hey you going to still water someone asked Gary going to still water I might you gonna go it's bouncing around in here it's in his brain he's put his put your cowboy hat ony hat and shades and go do it that's you're coming with me that's to Boulder that'd be sweet actually I've heard B I would actually love to go to Boulder we never gone before because it's always it's always the week the weekend after Thanksgiving and I just don't travel then but this year with it being before Thanksgiving I don't know but still in November why couldn't that one have been September or October oh man SE October heard I've heard Boulder is beautiful so I would like to go yeah all right depth chart came out I'd imagine most people have Utah's Depth Chart looked at it or have heard about it yeah let's just look at a couple things quick anything stands out to you um who do we got here what did I pull up okay tight ends quarterback running backs wide receivers the tight ends the Y and uh the U basically you have those who are more blocking tight ends yeah and the more receiving tight ends who are the U tight ends which is why you have keithy and King on the same side because they're more that receiving tight end so that's why it lines up like that but like what said to he goes the two deepest position groups are tight ends and uh DNS yeah oh but the options that we can run with this with these guys along with the receivers as we'll see I'm just saying uh we've got unbelievable set of tight ends it's going to be fantastic QB we've talked to mil you know it's cam is the starter and then you got Wilson and then the other guys which we mentioned so I like those three wide receivers they all have D names it's triple D back first anything any thoughts nothing surprised me there no I mean that's what we that's what we were expecting it's just say healthy that's all it is you know maai Bernard and then you got Glover or Mitchell Mitchell's the I think the big back he's big uh kind of the tier and then there's the the guys under him that are pressing him so anyway nothing there that really surprised me no now wide receivers they're identified a bit different just but whatever you got singer is the number one guy clearly no surprise you watch that guy play what Wht said today what I I love to hear uh is you throw anything to him he catches it yeah he's an NFL caliber freaking so we've got a guy that we've never had like that what he said or or like this let alone the other Talent we have is so it's fantastic money Parks Micah Pitman Alfred though we got a I'm telling you what he's that transfer from Syracuse Alfred is 66 666 yeah transfer from I think it Syracuse but the the guy he he's on here Pitman kind of gets forgotten we talk about singer we talk about Alfred we talk about money Parks we talk about the tieds Pitman is a really really good receiver that got hurt like like everybody else and he's going to he's going to make an impact I have a feeling he's going to make an impact Pitman had some fantastic catches last year when he was healthy he was great and then you get down to like mlan who had some great catches you got some dudes that can make some play offense is solid nothing surprised me on either side of the ball really it just kind of went okay man seeing it on paper so here we've got uh the o line uh I've heard great things about it yeah I have two I'm just saying look at the size of these guys man and know I get it that college teams have are big yeah you have to have it but but Utah dude when you're smallest guy is 6 65 65 66 and 65 Thanos here's what here's what I like okay so lomu is freshman but then junior junior sophomore junior senior Junior sophomore sophomore senior and if you remember last year it was way more freshman sophomore yeah that's the you're right the the one positive thing about the injuries from last year a lot of dudes got play time and exposure that would never have gotten that playtime and exposure so they they've seen the field when they otherwise wouldn't have so now it's not oh these guys never played it's he actually started six games last year he was a freshman last year got some game time and now he's a sophomore with the experience exactly um next to the Juniors and seniors who also have the experience I do like to see that and they can rotate and guys are going to play first game but our o line looks solid to me and particularly what I've heard so uh what we got here is our um this is the dline oh the dline and linebackers it is it's scary James just passed out a little bit I think yeah I don't think and we might we'll see we'll see now we might be underestimating but these guys were supposed to be really good well we tight end or our DN we talked about this last year Conor otoul he was the starting guy last year gets hurt and Ellis walks in and ends up having an incredible se he was in front of Ellis that's how good this guy is yeah and then obviously injuries but thanos's back van fillinger I mean the it the depth I'm so excited about our dline it's always a staple of a Whittingham team is the dline but th this is scary then we go to the linebackers uh Kina raid the Rover linebacker you tell me I might be wrong on this but a Rover as I understand it the Rover linebacker for Utah is very similar to uh kind of a hybrid linebacker safety strong safety type guy depends on what the offense is what the alignment is but that's yeah that kind of that's their skill set and that's Karina Reed and Calver at least the one twos right now yeah the Mac linebacker is typically like the middle linebacker on the team just F2 now this is where dunyi was gonna play but got Hur out for at least most of the Season yep which that sucks uh and then you've got the stud linebacker which is Lander Barton as and I as I understand it the stud linebacker is more of like a hybrid DN who can Rush the quarterback so it's a linebacker of course depends on the alignment and all that kind of stuff but he is a and that's if you look at Lander he's a he's built that way he's built that way like a dend yeah he can cover tight end is and to cover but he he can be used in the rushing game his specialty is specialty that kind of a hybrid also Barton changed his number he's now number eight this year remember that I mean from so many things I've heard it's that Barton Reed Duo this year is it's scary is on par with the other Duos we've had in the past years of guys that go to the NFL and that are really scary so hopefully that's what we get to see from both of them yeah I mean you look back on some of our best linebacker Duos of all time guys that make it to the NFL this is right up there with with those guys weed has come a long way too he has been playing a lot of games so shout out Shephard Ducks thank you for that shepher ducks thank you we love the duck fans oh isn't it great We've Come Together who would have ever thought I thought my Twitter feed is full of us just loving on Duck fans I I know five years ago I never would have thought it it's crazy they're cheering for us we're cheering for them it is weird wonderful I would have never thought anyways go ahead okay well here's the corners the Dbacks the Nickelback the free safety and strong safety so uh any surprises or anything there Calhoun hasn't even I think he gets to the team this week no he's the guy that isn't no Cameron Calhoun he's the transfer from Michigan yeah but I don't think he's here yet he's been here here he's been here am I wrong I think he was here in Fall Camp I watched him in the spring game well that might be true but in summer that oh maybe that's it said it I think I could be wrong but I think I don't know be that as it may there they are V NFL Corner we have another one yeah I mean he's our he's our number one I'm super excited about Smith Snowden uhuh that that's the one that we saw him a little bit last year year he showed glimpses I've heard really good things that he's going to be that that nickel because it the way that we run our defense is Corners are on an island they they play a lot of man coverage and you got to be able to cover them so then you have our free safety to Johnson that he's taking Cole Bishop spot that's some big shoes to F big shoes to F I mean we got a TOA or Nate so yeah that's interesting right there but uh and then our strong safety is is Gilman who's from Stanford Stanford transferred in from Stanford uh and that's vy's position so that's where they they're filling in I'm excited about I'm not gonna lie I so is it John Randall Jr Whit talked about him today yeah he has moved over to defense from was it running back position yeah he was a running back you know and listening to wit talk about him today I thought to myself if you're lucky enough to have Kyle Whittingham come to you and say hey we think that you could do well on the other side of the ball man you listen and you do what he tells you to do it's crazy the amount of guys that have come here yeah as quarterbacks or receivers or running backs and Whittingham says hey we're going to put you at corner or safety and you end up in the NFL yeah the list is incredible so that's cool for him I'm excited to see how he does with that yeah I don't know on paper I'm telling you here's the thing here's the difference between the Big 12 and the Pack 12 okay the Big 12 right now as lines up a lot more running back Talent than the Pack 12 especially last year last two years Pack 12 had was quarterback heavy dude you think about the last couple years Nicks Pennock Williams Sanders like these dudes that are first round draft picks at quarterback it's similar that way with running backs in the Big 12 you have to stop the run and make them pass the ball when I look at Utah I think that is one of the reasons why people are giving Utah caugh a ton of Love is because based off of the guys we have we have that ability to stop the run and make these guys throw the ball that I is the biggest difference that we're going to see in the in the Big 12 versus the p i mean there were games we' watch last year they'd run the team would they've played a bunch of guys in the first game of the year and they beat a bunch of them they're like nine and 10 or something on it's it's Colorado will win I think they will they're legit football
