Jeff Burton | 8/24/24 | Coke Zero Sugar 400 Post-Race Interview

Jeff obviously uh so 24 years ago you won your first Daytona race here at the circuit in this same summer race and then obviously your son is able to to win his first cup race in this same Race 24 years later so just talk about how special that is to see him do it here at Daytona that track that you were able to get first it's wild um you know Ward won the 500 uh I won the 400 U Harrison won uh arer race down here um Harrison a couple years ago won uh the one of the RO the road course race uh before the before the 24hour um and he's he's one a lot of races down the street at at new samna and he was racing down there when I was still racing here I would I'd get done practice or doing whatever I had to do here and I'd run over there and watch him race you know and uh so yeah this area has been a lot to us and uh it's also been a lot of heartbreak you know it's been a lot of lot of close calls which I think everybody can say but uh to think that uh um and Jeb's been close winning here he's won at Talladega he's been close to winning here too so to think that we've had three burdens in Victory Lane here is really cool if there's one thing that I think he could take away from you and your time racing at Super Speedways what would what would you say is kind of the big thing he was able kind of take away from you you know I I um you know I wasn't as good at as it needed to be I I put I I didn't approach it the right way and I didn't know that until post career um I I approached it um kind of like it's out of you control control when in fact it's a milon year control and so more more about what I didn't do to be quite honest like I didn't do a good job of of understanding and taking ownership it was more bad luck good luck kind of conversation um when I started spending more time with Dale Junior and talking to him about plate races I'm like we actually worked at this you know he actually thought about this a lot and he actually looked at how he could do things and and uh I looked more of just was kind of love yeah and so that was the one thing is the more time I spend with Junior the more I'm like hey Harrison don't do it like I did it uh because I I didn't approach it the right way awesome thanks Jeff congrats
