Will Anders Carlson Cost The Packers A Superbowl?!

what's going on everyone Packer plug back with another video and today we're going to be talking about the kicking competition in Green Bay between the three kickers uh we have left the Packers just claimed kicker James Turner off waivers from the Lions and so they actually just released Jack pety who they signed just after the last NFL season after um Andre Carlson um had a very underwhelming performing season for his first year at kicker and an underwhelming performing season in the play play offs that um caused a lot of stir in the Packer fandom and obviously in the building that uh even Matt Flor said that every time he goes out there that he just prays man and um yeah it was a rough season and it forced the Packers to have to kind of make a competition with the kickers this season and now we're in a going into training camp it's going to be a three-way um competition between um Greg Joseph Andre Carlson and the man they just claimed off waivers James Turner we're going to read this article we're going to go through it then we're going to talk about Anders Carlson we're going to talk about Greg Joseph I'm going give my opinions on who I think should be the kicker going to next season and yeah we're going to have some discussion so Packers claim kicker James turnning off waivers from Lions um one day after releasing kicker Jack pety to trim the kicking competition just a two the green B Packers claimed kicker James Turner off waivers from Detroit Lions um Turner was released by the Lions after the team signed an all UFL kicker Jake Bates to a two-year deal and Green Bay Turner will join a kicking competition featuring 2023 draft pick Andre Carlson and Veteran Greg Joseph Turner was an all big 10 pick for the national championship Michigan Wolverines in 2023 he transferred to Michigan after Four Seasons at Louisville at Michigan Turner connected on 18 of 20 field goals and set the school record for an extra point converted in a single season at Louisville he hit 47 of 49 field goals and 124 of 127 extra points for his career Turner was four of 10 on kicks of at least 50 yards but he's 3 and four in 2023 on kicks of 40 or more yards Turner was only 21 of 35 overall Turner hit at least 85% of his field goals during three of his Four Seasons as a primary kicker he also missed only four extra points despite rostering three kickers the Packers still have one open roster spot like all waivers claan Turner will have to pass physically before he's officially added to the Packers roster okay so let's get right into this let's start by talking about Anders Carlson not a big fan not a big fan I'm open about that I'm honest about that you know he took it as a draft pick last year and he didn't do well and it was consistently bad throughout the whole season um he's a guy that you just don't know if you can trust and this is a Green Bay Packers roster that I look at right now and I go there's a chance to win a Super Bowl a Super Bowl you cannot miss field goals you're in the playoffs against the Cowboys you're in the playoffs against the 49ers you cannot miss field goals the field goal can be a difference between going to a Super Bowl not going to Super Bowl winning a Super Bowl not winning a Super Bowl it is that important and when you have a guy like Andre Carlson who is completely inconsistent it's got to scare you especially when the rest of the team is looking phenomenal you went out you made a free agent um move that the Packers historically just don't do for Josh Jacobs you have amazing young receivers an amazing quarterback who finished second last year in total touchdowns this team isn't on the the upand coming right this defense who got improved who picked up Xavier mckin looks like everyone's bought in in training camp everyone showing up on time full full team participation it's and and the one position you really have to worry about affecting wins is the kicker Anders Carlson now it's going to be his second year and we can compare him to Mason Crosby right because Mason Crosby's first year he didn't do as well right just like Andis Carlson but he got together but the likelihood of another another kicker having a bad first season then turning it around I don't know I don't know and I don't know if you want feel comfortable with making that decision thinking he's going to do well just based off training camp going into a season where you have a Super Bowl window open are you willing to risk that are you willing to take a chance on Andre Carlson and say you know what he win the K kicking competition in August in training camp and in July let's give him the position and then things come right back around if he doesn't do well it's affecting your Super Bowl window I I just don't know Greg Joseph another guy who he's all right he's not great his field goal percentage is slightly lower but you know what he's a veteran he's a veteran and can you trust him to get those field goals maybe a little bit more maybe a little bit more H Carlson is a rookie so the potential still may be there because you just don't know you just don't know but what from you've seen from last season doesn't look good neither of these guys look good the situation doesn't look good James Turner is never taking a a kick in the NFL this doesn't look good either do I think the Packers need to go in and Matt leer needs to a side base how they do in training camp yeah because it's the only thing you can do based on all these stats he can't make a decision based off those I mean neither of them look great neither of them look great and you have a question mark with Carlson because he was a rookie last season so is he going to turn around like Mason Crosby did and become a career Packer I hope so I hope so right now looking into it I would say if I'm the Green Bay Packers I'm going with probably Anders Carlson right because he's doing well in training camp so far and he was a rookie last season so this the question mark Greg Joseph is he going to improve much more probably not maybe maybe not um we're going to have to just wait and see is he more experienced yes this is his fourth season in the NFL he played with um he played with the Vikings before but you know like he's a veteran so can you trust him a little more in situation sure is he going to improve much than what you've already seen through his four years probably not cuz once they have four years on him that's usually what he he's going to be that's usually what he's going to be Andress Carlson question mark we don't know what he's going to be what we've seen for that first season wasn't good could that be what he is and that's just what he is sure could it not like Mason Crosby absolutely it's a big question mark So if the green B Packers you have to go through this kicking competition through training camp you have to let them battle it out and you got to Hope in my opinion I'm hoping Andre Carlson does amazing in training camp I hope he does and I hope he turns into Mason Crosby I don't think Greg Olson's Greg uh Joseph's going to be that guy for us great gos but Anders Carlson could be he could be because it was just his rookie season and you got to just hope it was just rookie nerves but he's just so inconsistent last year do I think this James Turner guy is going to make the team probably not but I think it's great that you're putting pressure on these other two kickers by bringing James Turner in and and making this kicking competition seriously these guys really get on it
