Adam K and Ray R hanging out Larry Krueger joins us courtesy of the Uma guest line Krug what's going on man how are you hey what's going on guys how you guys doing pretty good where are you right now you on your way back from uh from Levis yeah I'm about uh I'm on the 680 about five miles from home it's a it's quite the quite the commute on a Thursday afternoon yeah nice you got to get down there and see a limited uh Edition or a limited version of Christian mcaffrey huh yeah he was running around today at practice we did film some of that and um I thought he looked pretty good to be honest I mean he was chopping his feet and he didn't look I mean he was I would say he was running guys about maybe 75% um you know your typical practice speed but I thought he looked pretty good I and and I thought JJ looked good as well can can you make an assumption based on that about whether he's gonna play or not no um I well do it anyway damn you yeah I I would say he's not GNA play I would say he's not going to play I think they're I think last year was about Christian and the and you know the MVP and everything this year it's about get that guy right in December and make sure you get to December and if you can run Patrick Taylor or gendo or obviously Jordan Mason I think that's gonna be the plan who plays first uh taleno huanga or Christian mcaffrey that's a great question I'm gonna say mcaffrey I think konga plays is not to week five uh we were postulating earlier that mcaffrey doesn't play until the doctors say he's 100% rather than he says he's 100% is that the way Shanahan would play it that he's going to wait for the doctors to clear mcaffrey rather than mcaffrey clearing himself well you know come on Ray you know because I'm trying to fake it here we kind of did yeah well you know if we ask Kyle that question he's gonna be oh abs we're going to defer to the doctors and you know we would never do anything against our doctor's wishes and you know Christian has in input but only input and the final call is the doctors so I I think it might have his play might be tied more to you know I think he looks pretty good it's just a matter of how do they keep winning games if they keep winning games and Mason and the other backs can withstand the workload I think it's probably wise of them to hold him out as long as they possibly can Dr Larry Krueger here on the the um guess line what's funny Larry's last week we talked about uh Aaron Rogers and like how you prepare for a guy like that we don't really know what he's become after the injury and I think we all agreed like you got to treat him like Aon Rogers until he shows you otherwise why is it different for Sam darnold after one decent week for me he's still Sam darnold until he shows you consistently he's a different guy I think we already know who Sam darnold is and you just got a chance to see the Good Sam darnold because the Giants didn't put enough heat on him if you move Sam darnold out of you know pressure him up the middle and make him kind of move aside you know and and make him use his footwork I think he's a guy that you can sack and hurry and and probably uh you know he'll probably throw you a couple picks uh what can Minnesota do that the 49ers actually have to worry about as opposed to just sort of playing them on it because they seem to me like a very ordinary team everywhere except the one place where you can't generate your own offense which is wide receiver it seems like that's a team that the 49ers they don't they're not going to Route them but they're not going to be endangered by them I mean the ners first of all it's a tough place to play I mean it's the crowd is going to be roaring it's G to probably mess with the Niner offensive tackles I would imagine there'll be some some plays that are interrupted by crowd noise then you've got the greatest receiver in the game today as you said but uh Aaron Jones is here now and Aaron Jones last I checked rumbled against the ners pretty good in the playoffs and so I mean he's a tough guy and he's he's just one of those guys he's all Hearts you know he's not the biggest he's not the fastest he's just all heart and um they'll throw it to him out of the backfield um and they'll hand it to him quite a bit the Vikings have shared carries a lot in the past but I think Jones is going to get the lion share this year over Chandler and it's it's can you stop Jones he's he's he runs with great courage against the 49er defense he's got great cutback ability he's got great vision and he's healthy right now how does that separate him from Bree Hall whom they very definitely coralled a week ago I think he's a I think you know it's a great question I think Bree Hall's better to be honest I think Bree Hall's bigger and faster uh but Jones is not going to be you Jones is is is a tougher guy and Jones is more of a tackle breaker even though he's not quite is big of a body he's got great heart and I just think that you have to gang tackle him you got to Corral him um you got to get a lot of multiple hats on him because otherwise he will he's got he is that second and third effort guy Larry uh in terms of uh the corners for the Niners I know we talked a lot about it in the the preseason and throughout the offseason I mean they didn't even attack charvarius ward in uh in last week's game like it's it's like he can shut down an entire side for you Deo lenorris had a funny quote to the media saying that he and Sam darnold have a good relationship with him giving him the football uh I think it's going to be a tough match up for darnold on the outside huh yeah I mean you know I think Lenor told me last Saturday in the locker room he's like you know we're different you know we're a different defense and they just got a lot of depth and a lot of Talent on the back end now you got Floyd and and uh Collins added to you know Bosa and I'll say the the the other big difference I've noticed is that Javon hardgrave didn't have have a very good year last year and he just you know last year he seemed to be have a real smile on his face but he didn't play all that great he's been kind of walking around with a scowl and I I think that might be a good thing uh how many players can you make facial recognition on and decide whether they're gonna have a good year or not uh I would say at least seven or eight okay good um I I was gonna ask a question about the defense and in some ways you know Adam kind of undercut it but I'm going to ask this a different way in what material tactical way are they different or is this just Talent maturing defensively I think the 49ers are quite a bit different I mean they're different in a negative way in that they took Dre green off the field and they replaced him with dandre Campbell so that's definitely a step back but I think they're quite a bit better off the defensive end spot I don't know that anybody I don't think they you know I don't I don't think they have any defensive end played as hard as Floyd plays other other than Bosa so I mean the motor of Floyd is so noticeable opposite Bosa so they're quite a bit better opposite Bosa and then Floyd is such a smart player that he understands how to play The Run despite the fact he lacks bulk and if you look at him you wouldn't think he could play The Run and then Collins is a younger healthier body who plays with more leverage and more Str functional strength than Armstead so I think they're better across the front and Jordan Elliott um you know was was a nice addition I mean he's 315 pounds with good footwork PFF graded him out really highly in the week in week one and I just think he gives them another defensive tackle that can stuff the run and has foot quickness and can pursue the passer so I think they're better there and then of course all the youth on the back end Lenor is better um you know definitely a lot of the young Corners have grown up I mean you'll see that over the course of the year and another minute here with Larry Krueger just a thought on the the backfield for the Niners in this one against Minnesota 28 carries for Jordan Mason in week one Debo had eight of them I'm just wondering at what point you think we start to see a little bit more of a of a share here with Isaac gendo getting in because I I think they like him I imagine at some point he's going to play a little bit I can't imagine they'll go 28 carries even if they have the opportunity again for Jordan Mason uh but uh maybe that's the type the type of Runner he is but uh you think we'll see gendo a little bit this week yeah it's one of the things I'm going to talk about tonight on the Niners nightly on the at 6 o' it's just I think that you're going to see that share I think immediately I I think there's a very good chance that you see Mason and gendo and a little bit of Patrick Taylor um in this game against Minnesota's defense I think you're going to start to see more of a three-headed monster um you know Chris Forester didn't want to say good things because coaches don't like to say good things but his line kicked butt on that jet line um and they're going to try to do more of the same but I don't think it's going to be you know all Mason I think it'll be Mason and friends and probably less Debo and probably M more of the other two guys Mason in the Pips dude that's what we're roll with on uh on Sunday 10 10: a.m. kickoff local time we'll have a pregame at 7: a. and you'll hear Larry uh with myself and John lond getting your
