No threat to South Jersey community after police search in Dennis Township, officials say

IT HAPPENED HERE IN DENNIS TOWNSHIP. THE SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER HAS SINCE BEEN LIFTED, BUT THERE'S STILL A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. NEW JERSEY REPORTER RYAN HUGHES WENT TO THE COMMUNITY IN SEARCH OF ANSWERS. >> Reporter: DENNIS TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT CANCELED CLASSES FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF OUT OF CONCERN WITH THAT ACTIVE SEARCH HAPPENING AND POSSIBLE DANGER IN THE COMMUNITY THIS MORNING. NEW JERSEY STATE POLICE NOW SAY THERE'S NO LONGER A THREAT TO THE PUBLIC BUT THEY'RE NOT SAYING MUCH MORE THAN THAT. CHOPPER THREE OVER THE 200 BLOCK OF KINGS HIGHWAY IN DENNIS TOWNSHIP THIS MORNING WHERE THERE WAS A LARGE POLICE PRESENCE AND AN ACTIVE SEARCH HAPPENING. NEW JERSEY STATE POLICE ALSO PUT ITS HELICOPTER IN THE AIR AS K9S WERE ITS ON THE GROUND SEARCHING A WOODED AREA. POLICE ARE NOT SAYING WHAT SPARKED THE SEARCH. TROOPERS WERE SEARCHING THE AREA OF KINGS HIGHWAY NEAR TIMOTHY LANE FOR HOURS BUT THEY TELL US THE SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER HAS BEEN LIFTED AND THERE'S NO LONGER A THREAT TO THE COMMUNITY. BUT EARLIER IN THE MORNING, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TOLD PARENTS TO KEEP THEIR KIDS INSIDE BEFORE CLASSES WERE CANCELED. SOME RESIDENTS WE SPOKE WITH SAY THEY JUST WANT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HAMMED. >> I THINK EVERYBODY IS JUST CONFUSED AND A LITTLE LOST. I MEAN, THEY'RE NOT TELLING THE PARENTS ANYTHING. EVERYBODY GOT AN ALL CALL MESSAGE TO LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOPE, GET THEM INSIDE, LOCK THEM UP, YOU KNOW, KEEP THEM SAFE, AND NOBODY REALLY KNOWS WHAT'S GOING ON OUT HERE. LIKE WE JUST WANT SOME ANSWERS.
