It's just been one of those weeks so far. The Tigers and Angels getting used to these weather delays, but they will get underway here at 830. And look, I mean, if tonight is going to end up the way last night did, it'll prove to be worth the wait for the Tigers is the opener Mason Engler. Nice chat with Mason yesterday, Gibbie. The he hasn't really tasted that success at the major league level but the numbers in the minor leagues keep getting better and better. He's feeling really, really good about his mix of pitches right now. Just love to see him get off to a good start in his return to the Titans and Taylor Ward ready to lead it off. I think we've had more rain delays these last two days, at least in terms of the duration of the delay. This one roped out to short wicket hop on Trey Sweeney. He will glove it on the first and gets Ward for the first out of the inning. Nice play by Trey. That ball sort of him up a little. It did and that ball was hit hard, you know, that's a slider. He kind of left it up in the zone. One of the keys for Mason attacking these hitters is to not leave his off speed stuff up. He's got a really good changeup. He'll mix in the slider. He's on base the first baserunner of the game on a two hour walk bat for 58 walk of the season. It's been such a tough go for the Angels offensively and it has helped that. Rendon has not provided much offense while he has been healthy this year hitting just 229 without a home run runner going and Rendon takes ball steals second without a throw. The season for Griffin Canning really, really good six shut out innings coming out of the bullpen in Toronto. My go to can to build off that performance up in Toronto is be aggressive throughout. That means tack with his fastball was very good. About 74% strike rate. Now this Tigers ball club has been whipping the baseball of late and their two best hitters are the first two in their order. Now, Toson is the batter. He was the number one draft pick in 2020 had what seemed like a breakout year last year. It's gone the complete opposite way this season for to number seven for Torkelson and the Tigers jump on top two. Nothing. Listen to this crowd. He's hit two home runs since coming back, but they were both on the road and this is the first time the home crowd has let Torkelson know just how much they love having that swing back. 93 miles an hour center cut has not been hitting the fastball as good as the offspeed pitch. And that is a great sign. He's got 23 hits. It has certainly been a rough year for Kent Maeda. His er, a is the highest in the major leagues for anyone who has pitched at least 90 innings this year getting a two year contract to come to Detroit and he has fallen out of the rotation although he still pitches every fifth day in this bulk roll. Splitter gets a nice job to get a dangerous hitter. He's been hot his arm speed and he really throws it out there. It's just a real loose iron. The ball just comes out here is Shanel who walked his first time against the opener, Mason Engler who ended up working two scoreless innings swinging straight back line to the mound. Maeda will head to first not in time, they should throw to second. They're going to get a double play out of this. How about that? A liner back to Maeda, he spun and through to Torkelson at first. Katas was already at third base , got back to first and they just get the out at second. And that's what we're seeing with this Tigers offense a lot. The team at bats leaving the situation for the guy behind you just in a better situation than the one that you found. That's the whole goal. Carpenter ropes one to right field to be scoring from third is Rogers make it three nothing Tiger is here in the third. There's that 32 change up. Carry does a good job just keeping his weight back, throwing his hands at it. You get plenty of barrel on it. You know, he hit a hard line drive to right field last at bat that one trying to get away from him. But you see carry gets down in a really athletic stance and literally just uses his hands to flick the barrel out to it to get a good piece of it. And that's why carry will always hit. He went, Johnny Cueto on him, walked him anyway, ball four. He had the hesitation on this delivery. Barry Enright will come to the mound. Cannings thrown 75 pitches already in three and two thirds innings and he'll have to deal with green. All the bases are loaded I don't think I've ever seen canning have that hesitation even allowed to do that with, with men on base. And that is a called third strike. A slider. There was no doubt that pitch was definitely a strike and the inning is over. So a big strikeout for canning and they failed to score leaving the bases loaded. Yeah, this is again another game for the Angels where offensively they just don't look like they're in sync bouncing ball off the bat of O'hoppe. It's a long throw for Sweeney and it's off the glove of Toral Ope stationed at first, Bill Porter got hit by the ball and this should be an air on the shortstop. Sweeney had all the time in the world just short hops Torkelson over at first base. So the inning remains alive. Moniak will be the next batter. There's a fly ball to right field hit pretty well by moniak Carpenter back out at the wall and it is long gone halfway up the bleachers and right. Mickey Moniak, a two run homer makes it a one run game boy. Two hit game again. Mickey, he's so fine, two run home run just like that back in the game. Listen to these loyal Tiger fans sitting at a long rain delay again tonight on their feet. This young Tigers team starting to cap for the imagination of Tigers fans all around the state of Michigan. He got him with the slider. Tigers have won six straight 13 of 16 and they're starting to play some meaningful games heading toward the month of September.
