West Virginia State University and Carson Newman football teams honored wsfu and former Eagle linebacker jalik Harrington during their Friday football game Harrington died after being fatally shot inside his apartment on Wednesday night yesterday was a nightmare and it was one of the hardest days of of all of our Lives um but uh you know today we woke up and and we we went to war you know for our for our teammate uh and that was what we needed to do at least uh you know we weren't worried about the scoreboard we were just going to go give it our all for him before the game at this time we would ask that everybody please observe a moment of silence in his remembrance also they colored the 22 and 31 yd line strip on both sides because those were his jersey numbers at both schools state had a 22 sticker on and the Eagles had 31 on their helmets to honor the 21-year-old during halftime the band played the alma mater to honor him meant a lot to the young man in in our program and even though I hadn't you know hadn't met him uh I talked to a lot of guys about him uh we have our chaplain with us he used to go to church with him he's had some events with him so just just a great young man last night both teams held a private vigil where they got to grief and pray together president of West Virginia state Eric cage says the school is processing but taking it one day at a time cage talked with the mother and says she is distraught is that she said that uh her son wanted to be here at West Virginia State University uh and that her son would have wanted us to to continue moving forward so we are doing just that even though Harrington is gone those who knew him say his legacy will live on through every interaction ABY Lord WSAZ Institute
