Million Dollar Hole in One Challenge | EM

foreign [Music] here with Paul at Al Bell Paul tell me what is going on behind us right now ah we have our Rosen rotary million dollar hole in one contest that benefits the Salvation Army Kroc Center so we're given a chance for golfers and even non-golfer anybody who can hit a golf ball 100 yards a chance to win a million dollars and have some fun so I see those people out here right now they all get a book of a bucket of 10 balls is that correct yeah uh well it's a dollar a shot or 25 shots for twenty dollars so you get a little deal okay and you go ahead and hit from 100 yards and what we'll do is the top 10 at each of our day's qualifying sites will move into the semi-final round on Saturday morning where those 80 or so people will hit from 125 yards away those top 10 will go down to the finals and those final 10 will each hit from 150 yards away for a chance to win that million dollars so how many years has this been going on now uh this is the seventh year we've been doing it yeah and and is it a big part of the Salvation Army and their fundraising efforts yeah this is our second biggest fundraising uh event that we'll have this year um it's we've been doing it for like I said seven years and we get people from all over the county coming out we're at elbell and urskin and Eberhart and Judy Creek and so we're all over the county doing this so what you do is you go out on different days get different qualifiers and then at the final is on Saturday so where's the Grand Finale going to be the grand finale is on the 18th Fairway at Judy Creek on Saturday morning where everybody will gather and hopefully you've watched somebody hit a hole in one nice has anybody actually gotten a hole in one during this yet to win the million or no not real no uh the closest we had was actually last year where the ball was low and it was skipping in between me and you that's how close it came to the pin and rolled right by it and the whole crowd that was standing around was going oh just like you hear on TV it was amazing a little scary too but it was great so if people don't win the million what do they actually win is there other prizes yeah those final 10 people we have some prizes for them maybe it's a foursome at a golf course or a South Bend Cubs have given us a prize pack and things like that so nice prizes see I think this kind of contest really hits into the ego of a golfer because as a golfer myself you don't need to have a great round you just need to have one good shot to have a good round right yes so and here's a shot to actually win a million dollars which is really cool it takes that one shot keeps bringing us back time after time and it is an eagle where a guy comes up and he hits and goes I don't know if that's going to stay I'll buy 20 more and then it keeps going until he feels he's comfortable and yeah becomes addictive but of course it is it's a good one though because all the money is going to a great cause so where does some of that money go the money goes to our mission and the programs to support what we have going on at the Salvation Army crack center examples of that is our food pantry has seen over a 50 increase in the last few months prices have gone up about 200 percent so we need a little more money to be able to support those people that are coming in to just get in the basics of food we have a financial assistance program where people are about ready to be disconnected from their utilities well we need to make sure that that doesn't happen especially as hot as it was last week and everything we can't have people living without air conditioning without electricity so we got to make sure that that stays on yeah then we have a food backpack program for kids during the school year to where we give them six meals to take home on the weekends so they have food on the weekends otherwise they go home to empty cupboards and nothing going on and then our biggest programs are around Christmas time yeah with the angel tree program where we provide any about 13 to 1400 kids every year with clothing toys and food over the Christmas holiday so you know those all take a lot of money but you know what we're helping the community the best we can and that's what this all goes for absolutely I remember one Christmas I was helping the Salvation Army and I was um you take people's requests for foods and for meals for Christmas and this woman sat down and she just looked at me and she said are you Irish and I thought for a second maybe she knows I'm Irish Dave or something from the radio at the time and I said yeah how did you know and she said I could just tell by your big head so I'll always remember that she was a sweet lady though and you know I made sure an extra off that no I'm kidding but no she was a sweet lady but I just it was a good experience on everything you guys do at the Salvation Army I mean you're right in the heart of the community and you really do great work so well thank you we try our very best and there's a lot of people out there that need help and we're within that walking distance and in some of the poorest areas of town to where people can easily have access to us and if people want to get more information about this maybe they're able to squeeze in hitting a few shots before is there a place where all the courses and everything are all on one website yes you can go to any of the courses and they'll have Flyers like this otherwise you can go to mycrack.org look for the hole in one symbol and then all the courses are listed there one thing that we have new this year too is if you don't want to you don't have time to come out and qualify um and hit the golf balls just come out to one of the qualifying sites and we will if somebody gives us a 500 donation we will automatically put you into the final round for that so that one shot for the million dollars so we'll take up to five people that way I like it so we'll have our 10 qualifying and then up to another five people if they want to pay that 500 straight to get their chance so if I'm just like not doing well today if I give you a check for 500 you let me into the finals yes I will exactly not even hiding the bribery you know it all goes for the cause it's a fundraiser it's for the kids yes it's for the families all right well good luck today and we've had some pretty good golfers here yes they're out here hitting already it's it's early in the in the first day and there's already people out here hello and the other thing I want to say is too that if anybody
