Hacks Hangout On Edmonton Sports Talk - Pre-Season Update, Sleeper Candidates & More!

[Music] welcome back everybody to the fantasy hockey hacks live on Edmonton Sports Talk I'm Devon Davidson your host with me as always Bruce Gunther hello and joining us tonight Tyler homman who's here most nights Wednesdays anyway how you doing buddy good good how are you good and hey happy belated birthday to you thank you did did you get up to anything interesting last night it was taco Tuesday taco Tuesday nice just fell on a Taco Tuesday so it was good I bet you love that that's awesome um tonight should be fun you know what for all of our listeners this is a a hacks exclusive um good or bad you get the three of us tonight we um we had flip living Stone lined up and just he couldn't make it uh work for this evening and um and actually he won't be joining us for the remainder of the Season unfortunately but we've got five other great guests on the show so no worries um flip was kind enough actually to go in and answer some of the mailbag questions on his behalf and uh give some feedback too on some of the things we want to talk about in terms of uh Futures bets and players bets so uh for tonight we're going to go through preseason discussion and observations we got those mailbag questions I mentioned and then um we're going to talk about preseason player and Futures bets that we like as well as some potenti potential sleepers uh we've talked about breakout candidates Bruce we've talked about bounce backs we've talked about all sorts of stuff season previews uh we haven't really deep dived into potential Sleepers for this upcoming season so uh we got a few guys there we're going to talk about uh and then like I said before this show is a bit of a different format from our regular podcast um we want this just to be a little more conversational I think in the regular season guys we'll probably cover a lot more of our hacks headlines and and trending players and stuff like that just keeping it more current events type stuff and then our Sunday night show uh will give you all the the goods in terms of the schedule and and waiver wire targets for the week so with that um preseason discussion and observations and I guess we might as well start with the Edmonton Oilers because of course this is Edmonton Sports Talk I think they're up 52 right now Bruce is that you said that's the last score I saw was 52 yes 52 wow oh hey and before I get too too far ahead of myself um social okay yeah sorry um if you do want to watch this too we have the the YouTube stream going as well over at heavy hockey on the YouTube channel there so youtube.com heavy hockey head over there give them a follow um we are here to answer questions too so if you want to interact with us you got some last minute mailbag questions you want to throw down Tyler is more than happy to answer those for you so uh send them on in uh Jazelle says let's go thanks for joining happy to have you uh yeah preseason stuff here guys so obviously the evedon Oilers 52 tonight I don't want to get too excited Bruce because the Flames are basically rostering an AHL team over there but uh the Connor squared connection looks pretty good so far Conor Brown's got two goals um I've been hearing lots of comments about Stuart Skinner not looking so good have you guys seen any of the highlights or been folling on on Twitter what's going on I've been following the game a little little bit on Twitter it sounds like there's a little bit of a panic early that the uh Team wasn't uh wasn't showing the fact that they were heavily outskilling Calgary and then I guess looks like partway through the game they decided well hey you know what we they are playing an AHL team so they should probably destroy them so that's what they kind kind of kind of been doing ever since they figur out that hey we can actually uh throtle these guys so it sounds like that's what the uh what they're doing so far yeah I watched the first two periods um amonton kind of wasn't really trying at all uh Calgary scored two goals and then they kind of decided that they should maybe start playing Conor Brown looked pretty good um in the right spot on both of his goals Skinner did not look very good on the first shot at all um the second one he didn't look that great either but Holloway completely left the guy alone in the front so not totally his fault but it it was wasn't a great start well speaking of Stuart Skinner so do we do we have a bit of an early season goalie controversy here I mean look it's preseason nobody wants to get too excited but Jack Campbell has stopped 65 and 67 shots they two preseason games so far he's looked pretty sharp um against Seattle the other night it was I think mostly an NHL lineup so including that one big save he made on Jared mccan um Tyler I'll go to you first but like is there a chance here for Jack Campbell to be the starting go tender on opening night I think he's going to be and I think that's fine I think Skinner has the mentality um where he could be kind of in that 1B backup kind of role and still come in and just be calm it's exactly I think it's a a perfect tandem to have um but I think Campbell's gonna be probably the starter Bruce anything different no I I would love to see Campell be the open opening day starter as well as we go through all the Prett reviews and stuff here I've been uh been toting his horn pretty loudly so I I think he's well on his way to back to the way the previous Jack they saw in Toronto so I'm very much hoping it's a Redemption season for him yeah I'm excited I think you know a competitive Jack Campbell is only a good thing for the Oilers and um I don't know about you guys but I've already grabbed him in two leagues I think Bruce so from a fantasy perspective uh he is he's there for the taking he's just sitting on the waiver wire in most leagues so in my d league with Victor I grabbed him and I think we were talking about grabbing him to Bruce in um in our experts league with uh with Nate and those guys so yeah if someone hasn't grabbed him already yeah yeah so there you go um what happened to Zach kman I heard he got his head shoved into the boards or something he had a fight tonight uh he just his his face was guided into the glass A little he's a little upset about it nothing really happened but uh he didn't like it okay fair enough uh okay at this point is it time to get concerned about Matias atom and Ryan McLoud maybe Ryan McLoud less so but um from the nhl.com they said Mias atom and Ryan McLoud uh both expected to be ready for the regular season though they will not play against the Calgary Flames tonight obviously um oers head coach Jay Woodcraft said um neither EOL or McLoud they haven't dressed for preseason game and uh he said I expect both to be ready for the start of the year uh they're putting good days together and we're listening to our medical people I think we have uh when you have time you want to use it and then someone asked if it was a playoff game would they be in and he said yes so I guess maybe no no real concern but I I don't like the fact that Matias atol is dealing with that hip flexor issue and we saw Darnell deal with something like that a couple of years ago and and it really hindered his play so um Bruce any concern for you or is this just uh them being overly cautious early no I think it's just being overly cautious early they've they don't really EOL doesn't need to play I'm pretty sure he'll once he's on the ice he'll just jump right into right and be right in place there McLoud maybe game or two wouldn't hurt him but I think they're just being overly cautious Tyler what do you think uh Ryan McLoud is skating this morning you looked fine but um any concern for either player for you no it sounds like mccloud's a little bit closer anytime you don't get to play any preseason games you gotta worry a little bit um for what what how much extra time it's going to take him to kind of get going um but I'm not I'm not too worried yet not yet not yet it's early we got time uh Dylan hollow's looked pretty good in preseason he's been he's been driving play um Tyler is this is this the year we finally see something good from Dylan Holloway I hope so I hope so it's hard it's hard like with the rosters that they've kind of iced um Hall should be the best player on a lot of those nights so I mean it's good that he is um but I I think I mean barring any injury playing third line minutes and maybe getting 15 goals would be would be a good season for him so what about uh gleon sounds like he's actually pushing for a spot here and and is there a chance he pushes dear out of the lineup I don't think so I don't think so two totally different games de har is kind of there for one reason uh especially if they go like 11 and seven um gleon looks like a good kind of AHL NHL tweener good good call up if one of your more offensive D go down maybe um but it's good to have it's good to have that guy that that looks like he can play yeah y uh okay anything else on the Oilers Bruce you want to talk about quickly we could probably talk about them all night we could we could I don't think anyone on this station would be upset about it but uh I don't think anything really stands out the other Conor looked really good tonight already too from what I've from what I've been reading so tricyles got a goal too so they're they're off to a good start they're all doing the things you expect them to do so that's good absolutely all right let's move on let's talk about some other guys here uh Unis Corpus Salo made 40 stops in a three nothing shot shout out over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday nights I think he looks like a really good option as a as a zero g golender um Bruce a guy you're going to Target in our next couple of drafts maybe I think so I shut out and I think he had a I think in his other game he also won that one as well if I remember correctly so he's looked good for for the sends to start off and that's uh that's something they didn't have last year so if they can get some solid goal tending to start off they'll be they'll be in good shape yeah I like him as well and I think Anton forsberg provides a bit of insurance there too if Corpus Alo Falls in his face uh Tyler yesper brat had a big night against the Islanders posting a four-point night including a hattrick he had another goal tonight um he is now your pre-season goalscoring leader not that that means a ton there's no no special award for that but wasn't tyr a couple years ago yeah you know it's really funny I had the exact same thought I went oh man yeah yeah it doesn't it doesn't really mean a whole lot but yesper Brad had a really good season last year and and he's going to play on that probably that Top Line with uh with Jack Hughes right so um is that a player you're looking at for Fantasy purposes this season well I don't really want to tell you but yes I don't know what is what is ADP right now is looking like but it's got to be a good eighth ninth rounder maybe I'll take a look here for you because he's he's gonna get lots of opportunity he had good season last year had another one before that U before he got a big contract so yeah 132nd um that that's the fan tracks so yeah it's it's a nice ADP I think you get good value on a player like that he could be a point per game this season yeah yeah absolutely all right uh Bruce Boon Jenner scored a goal in seven shots in nearly 19 minutes of ice time he continues to be an undervalued fantasy asset despite little Fanfare uh around the league in terms of his ADP Fant trxs 156 Yahoo 174 this feels like a guy who could threat he's a threat for 30 goals every season and and category coverage too right he hits he think he blocks he get pims but nobody seems to pay attention and I there's really no competition for him in Columbus for that Top Line Center Spot no his only real competition is probably fantelli and I don't think they want to give him that as default they want to work him into that spot so it's generous spot so depending if it's he's between lion and G that's a that's a pretty uh pretty nice spot to be and that'll throw up some nice nice points and some nice feny points and like you said he covers off categories too so that's it's a nice little player if you can pick him up off the H he's going late well what 156 so he's going late or or not at all so pick him up off the waiver wire if he's not drafted yep yeah you heard it here people stop ignoring Boon Jenner and Blake if you're listening I know you'll appreciate that so uh yakob Verana had a three-point night two goals in just 1335 Tom my ice we're going to talk about him a bit later as one of our sleeper options Bruce but yes I mean he there's there's lots to say about Veron uh Victor Nuno informed me educated me on Twitter today uh just saying he's a massive defensive liability and so that's why he's not getting those top six minutes um despite you know his offensive prow so I I don't know um Tyler for you does St Louis have any any fantasy appeal this season I mean outside of kyou and Thomas maybe Shen uh Verna I just don't like I don't like the deployment third line and I I really don't see him um kind of moving into that top six unless somebody gets hurt and I think it's only going to be for a short period so uh Kyu and and Thomas are kind of the the two guys maybe well obviously ful and and Krug um and Bennington for Bruce no we're not doing bton this year Bennington is on the do not draft list this year he's out finally finally Bruce sees the light I might pick up though but V not a chance not happening this year someone else can deal with him yeah he's on my draft list too but Hofer should be on your watch list for sure because there's a chance that Bennington Falls in his face again and Fulk Tyler is a is a really nice option for for category coverage bangers leagues um I think he's undervalued uh Krug speaking of which played 2448 time on Ice including 418 on the power play in his first preseason game of the year one power play assist he has an ADP of 213 and he looks like a steel here in preseason um I think a lot of people have overlooked him just given that he was injured early and Faulk took over some of that power play time but now I I may have more time for Tory crew particularly in a points format because uh he's getting all the power play time he's going to play 25 minutes a game game that's a player I'm interested in especially with essentially the last two three picks of the or picks of your your draft uh I don't know I you're not sold Bruce I drafted kud the last two years and I've been burn both years and he hasn't put up nothing it's they go with him to start the season he does a little bit and then he drops off the face of the Earth and then Fulk goes in there and they use folk for the rest of the season they go back to a months in a while and a pass I I think for me it's just where you can get them so if you can get them at 213 or later or if you can maybe pluck them off the waiver wire afterward like that's to me that's a piece maybe maybe you want to look at at and just if he does nothing at 213 there's a reason why he's at 213 well but you haven't you haven't invested anything so nothing nothing gained nothing lost right so I'll let someone else have him too all right fair enough um Jake gensel was on the ice for practice on Tuesday morning so that's encouraging talks early in the summer were that he was going to miss a couple months Tyler and now looks like he may be back just in time for the regular season I I think we all thought that he was going to be like Christmas time at least so um that's good that's good that's going to be good for the team too to probably get off to a little bit better start because of that so well that's another player that I'm just going to look at here for for his ADP where's he looking Fant TRX has him he's he's going at 70th right now so I don't know that that that injury issue is really reflect is reflected in that 8p I don't think it bothered anybody no no um yeah no that that is good I mean he's he's a he's a player I've had on my team before and I I'd like to get him on there again so uh Jonas Johanson out of Tampa has posted back toback shut out stopping 67 shots in his last two games and Bruce is he is he making a case to replace fast kesi I think so at least for the the short term anyway they uh well they lost out on Spencer Martin so Columbus took him they had a shot at Cal Peterson I don't think anybody's taking Cal Peterson um but two um yeah I guess the uh the other thing we'll see here what happens in the next little while is what happens in Buffalo and Toronto right are they going to start the season with three goalies because whoever Buffalo or Toronto puts on waivers out of their three goalies could end up in Tampa MH if they're not 100% sure that uh Johansson can handle the first uh the first few weeks here where there it' be interesting to see how it how that plays out do you guys think that Tampa would have claimed Spencer Martin if Columbus hadn't yep yeah everybody keeps talking about vladar there though so I'm all for it I'm all for it I they have to get they have to get Dustin wolf in there um so I don't know they probably going to have to eat some money but I think that's a good fit I think I I read from pedia that Tampa can fit up to 2.2 million in the right circumstances so I I mean I I'm not a capologist but I just I read that somewhere and and I think it was from the pedia Twitter account and that makes sense to me they made happen be the first time in quite a while that vasileski would actually have a capable backup behind him so that they wouldn't have to run him into the ground they could give flar if he was traded some some more starts so that they wouldn't have to and then they do make the playoffs they can save vasileski for the playoffs as opposed to having to put him out basically every night right because Johansson's look good here but he could be like Hoskin and did too and they had to roll him out at the beginning of the Season there when Smith was hurt you run the poor guy into the ground and then he's he's hosed right yeah I agree with that like Brian Elliott was his last backup yeah yeah yuck that was basically a shootout waiting to happen they had to score goals just to stay ahead of the ones Elliot was letting in yeah uh Conor Bard scored his first goal with the Chicago Blackhawks excuse me two assists in their four2 win against the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center on Tuesday Bard has five points one goal four assists in three preseason games games the goal really wasn't much to speak of but um looks setup though wasn't it moric to Bard to the empty net it was beautiful it just beautiful couldn't couldn't have wrote it up a better way right I mean he's looked good he's looked good and I was actually kind of upset because in our that expert League Bruce that you and I are co-managing that team in he was is a keeper league and he was taken with the first pick in I guess it was the first round but it's technically the fourth round right so uh he went right away and I thought oh man because we had the third pick and I thought we had a chance at Bard in a keeper League I at that point I'm doing it but I tried in a couple of mock drafts to see where where I could get him so I kind of had a defined strategy of how I wanted to go through and it's just there are lots of people were reaching for or like in the third round and it's just yeah I couldn't for fourth and fifth round I think I could almost be comfortable taking him but not in the first three yeah I'm with you yeah fourth fifth round and if it's a keeper it's a no-brainer yeah all right John Carlson had a goal in two assists and a 54 OT win over the Bruins on Tuesday Carlson is going at a great spot yaho drafts right now at 93.1 so some point in the eighth round that's ridiculous I love it Tyler is that a guy you're you're targeting in uh in one of our next two drafts every year like actually yeah yeah yeah yeah I think especially at that spot like yeah eighth round that's that's a great spot for him it's great he should be higher well and he's gonna this guy puts up 70 points in his sleep right almost every single season um I can't remember exactly how many he put up I he had eight points in 10 games right when he returned from injury yeah at the end of last season so yeah expect close to point a game point per game for that guy um Tyler's going to have a good-looking defense to Ser he going to take Bard in like the second round Carlson in the eighth Carlson the e or Carlson in the sixth yeah that's gonna be pretty good Carlson the fourth like yeah yeah Campbell yeah Campbell in the fourth round all D all the time Zero D no Tyler's going full D full d d all D no no Al forwards hopefully you guys believe that s take face value I guess yeah uh John John Norris or sorry Josh Norris excuse me John Norris Josh Norris had a setback in his return remains a question mark heading into the season and Shane Pinto is dealing with contract issues so the center depth in Ottawa all of a sudden looks a little bit sketchy uh I don't think they have any long-term concerns but Josh Norris to me man that guy just cannot stay healthy Tyler no it's it's too bad to right after after signing that contract and just kind of a disaster ever since tweaked something and just can't make it work uh Bruce is is that another guy that's on your Jun not draft list yeah pretty much I thought here at the beginning of the preseason it's like yes like we're gonna get a chance to and yeah he's quickly slid back onto the Do Not draft list un it's unfortunate but yeah he's there all right uh John kingberg twe something about a week ago in preseason remains absent from practice as of today Wednesday October 4th uh lais scored nice okay that's that's that's what that noise was it was my phone going off d d yeah okay nice hopefully no spoilers for anyone listening yeah I'm sure you're watching the game um yeah John kingberg I I don't think there were a ton of fans out there that were really excited about about this uh this signing I actually I kind of liked it for their depth as just as a power play specialist option but uh now he's injured and I'm I'm All Aboard the Morgan Riley hype train now so Bruce what do you think yeah I would think so is yeah the only reason why you bring kingberg in for that is power play specialist and now they've got kingberg is out they lost Conor Timmons here he's weak to week with uh injury too so all of a sudden the Leafs defense depth looks a little sketchy too so now they've lost two defenseman that are possibly Worth to be on the opening night roster so but yeah it's uh it's all Morgan it's all Morgan rilly right now until kingberg can come back and show that he can actually run or they're going to bring him back to run the power play or bring him back to sit in the Press Box one or the other I don't know time will tell it's the leavs you never know Zack Benson that guy looks like he's going to play nine games for Buffalo early um he's got he scored his third goal in his fifth point in five preseason games I think that ties him with Conor Bard for the the rookie points lead in preseason so I know he's he's well regarded a lot of Scouts and analysts I've talked to really like Zack Benson the only issue I guess is it's a little bit deeper in Buffalo so I'm going to add him to my my watch list Tyler I'm not sure how you feel about Zack Benson but he's looked pretty good so far in preseason he's looked really good but I I they have a lot of young players there I think they'd be much better off maybe giving him his nine games and sending him back either way and letting him know ahead of time that they're going to do that um and letting them have another year um and coming in after the team hopefully takes that step this year um and be on that much better of a team so he's look great though I agree with that like it doesn't make sense to burn up a year of his entry level contract but give him the experience let him play and then when the team is closer to being ready like they're we all think they're going to push for a playoff spot but they're not competing for the cup at this point yet right so I think give him some time send him back makes sense to me uh Bruce you and I were talking about Matthew pitris uh for the Boston Bruins yes that's uh that was a bit of a surprise I don't think many of us expected a 19-year-old to make possibly first or second line center for the Bruins at of camp but he's uh he's making a real good case to to stay or at least stick around for his n98 nine games anyway yeah it's interesting he's actually sixth on the Bruins this preseason at 3.62 points per 60 those are better numbers than both pav zaka and Charlie Cole your supposed top two centers uh Four Points two goals and four games played that also leads the Bruins I put a bit of an asterisk there because he's played four games and Pastak um has only played two but still has three points so it's interesting I I am very curious to see if they keep him around I still don't like the center depth in Boston I have real concerns about it and and I am absolutely fading the Boston go tending tandem there uh Tyler any interest in lineus almark or Jeremy Swan regardless of where he can get them yeah yeah depending on how late you can get them absolutely like if you can get them the same place you got them last year sure then yeah makes sense yeah sure they're not going that late no but they'll they'll be going way further ahead I would just let somebody else take that and and pick them up off of waivers later when they get upset about it so exactly I'll be waiting for it okay and then also news today M Raton is day-to-day with a lower body injury according to head coach Jared B Jared Bednar My Hope My Hope here is that uh maybe maybe Ranon Falls to me at 10th overall tomorrow night wi uh you're drafting 10th so I know you won't be able to do the rent in marar turn again this year you never know though you might be able to pull that one off again that worked out really well for me I feel like you're not going to let it happen though Bruce I don't think I have much say I'm drafting fourth and 21st I'm not even going to be anywhere near you maybe maybe Mar will be gone at seven maybe oh are you taking marar at seven Tyler you never know you never know you'll never tell you'll never tell he's hoping dry cidal drops to him at 7 oh boy yeah I've already accepted that won't happen though it was about 3 seconds after I seen the email well the one mock draft I did he dropped the fourth there's probably a bunch of lease fans in that one Austin Matthews and Jack Hughes went ahead of him yeah I I can understand the logic if you're if you're really into the analytics and you're just looking at shot metrics and you're going this guy shoots a million shots a season sure I guess maybe but when you look at just the raw numbers dry Sidle has been the second best player by a wide margin the past three seasons so I just don't understand the logic personally but sometimes and you know what Tyler you've done this you just like drafting players from your team because it's more fun own players that on a team that you cheer for so yeah doesn't always work out like I mean never but still fun I can't either half of them are in the top 30 now so it's like they aren't spread out anymore they're like all bunched up in the top 30 so I'll get like two oh man I might not even get that you can get Ben Gleason oh yeah there we go if Deon doesn't take him I will not be taking Ben gleon for Fantasy purposes I just wonder about for the Oilers depth and that's kind of what we like to do in Edmonton or you guys like to do in Edmonton I should say Tyler is talk about uh third pairing options and and fourth lines uh in the preseason we love it I I could talk about it every day all right uh we're GNA take a quick break here guys and when we come back we're going to cover off some mailbag questions and we're back uh just for the record boys I do read the messages sometimes I'm just between trying to produce the show and read the notes and not sound like an idiot uh yeah sometimes I don't read the private chat my apologies all right so we got some some mailbag questions to get to um thank you again to flip for taking the time to give us his feedback on these questions even though we couldn't be on tonight really appreciate that so with that we got a question here from Nick Moon who actually is going to be joining us us in our fhl league this year Bruce nice and I I found out he lives in Halifax um so of course he was yeah he was asking about when we're Drafting and I said well 9 900 P p.m. mountain standard time and and so it's that's like midnight for him I guess but uh he he's he's going to do it anyway so um kudos to him but anyway he had a question for us here so uh and actually what I'll do here guys too is I'm going to read the question I'm Gonna Give You flips response and then I'll uh I'll tag one of you two to to give me some feedback too so who would you take in the eighth round Patrick l Vladimir tereno Drake bson uh and flip said for me this one is clear for a few reasons obviously Patrick Lanny seems like the likely Choice here but consider his injury history and the lack of performance from the Columbus Blue Jackets that should be on tap for the season Drake bson is a Topline player on most teams and if not for the Stacked lineup the sends now have the benefited of app playing in their top six bson would be a Top Line player in Ottawa as well so much to like about his game including filling peripheral categories in Banger leagues chipping in with hits shots pims and of course overall offensive value Tyler I'm going to go to you first because I know for a fact that you like probably like all these players but two of them in particular I know you've drafted recently Lon I I would still I would still do it um I I expect them like I know the inj the injury history is there but like he's still I mean he could score 40 in his sleep um as long as he's not hurt um so I would take him just because I think the deployment is going to be a little bit better than bson um but I it's close between those two but I'd still pick pick line all right Bruce what do you think I would actually lean toward lion name myself too so I just I have a better feel yeah like Tyler said injuries and stuff like that but I just have a better feeling for lion than I do for bson I I actually Love Drake bson but I I'm going to agree with you guys here on the Patrick Lan pick because I think for the upside if he's healthy 40 goals should be maybe not quite as floor but he's he should be in that 35 to 40 goal range fairly easily and kind of the tiebreaker for me Tyler is that yeah he is getting better deployment like he may play 20 minutes a night Topline Power Play One um he's going to get all the opportunities in to play with Zach grensky he's he's developed some nice chemistry with Adam fan Tilly um and he's also asked to play center so he went to the coach and as asked if he could play center so if he does that um that also helps um kind of in Yahoo leagues for for uh position yeah yeah for sure I like that okay so Nick there you go uh you get three votes for lony and and flip with bson but I guess too the uh the cop out is always to make sure you check your your league settings right so obviously if if some of those categories are more applicable to a guy like Drake bson that's a pretty easy decision uh this one's from Brian Smith and actually Brian thanks you've been checking in quite frequently he's been asking lots of questions through Instagram and stuff um so I appreciate that like the engagement Ryan Johansson or Matt Coronado and flip said this is a really tough one the track record is so small with Coronado in fact just one game in the NHL but given the fact that R Jo could be battling Ross Colton for the second line Center Spot and Coronado is going to get a real look in Calgary's top six I would be willing to roll the dice excuse me on the youngster with the Flames that is R would lean at this point however depending on the format of your league and categories the offensive benefit of R Jo might be more worthy of an immediate look for the plain reason of the Avalanche being a much better and more offensively potent unit so I'll just say that I I told Brian in my opinion I'd go with Matt Coronado for the upside I don't like the shot rate for Ryan Johansson um he doesn't the [ __ ] yeah like I I'm not sure if he knows how yeah um one thing that kind of makes him appealing I guess is the fact that he's going to get potentially top six deployment and power play one and playing with those players that does make him somewhat appealing but for me Matt Coronado has been fantastic although be it just in preseason but he he's going to he's going to be in that top six I think and there's lots to be said about Ross Colton uh and and but I I don't I don't know what do you guys think like we've talked about a little bit Tyler is Ross Colton going to be a third line Center is going to be a Winger in the top six he play top like second line Center where where do you see him fitting in I think he's a a really good third line Center like I think that that's where he fits I think Ryan Johansson fits better as a second line Center um hopefully with two guys that actually shoot the puck on his wings um in this situation I'd probably still go with Coronado just because I think he's actually going to get an opportunity uh in Calgary I think most of what Johansson does is just not going to be driven by him it's going to be who he plays with so I I mean it's a it's a tough one but I'd probably go with Coronado okay Bruce oh I'm definitely going with Coronado I've rostered Johansson in past years and yeah I'm not touching him sorry even if he's on the Avalanche I'm still not touching him he might get 77 assists for the Avalanche but I'm still not touching him that's fair I I think you had a good season or two in Columbus a while back but it's it's been a while since then um and for me I think where you find these two players that's generally where you want to go with the upside anyway right in in a guy like Matt cornado and someone who shoots the puck and probably he gonna score more goals for you so all right and then Brian actually had a second part to this question was Seth Jones or Justin Faulk and I think I probably gave Brian the same answer but flip said points only League plus minus incl included uh coin flip Jones is going to play on the top power unit with Bard so maybe with that reason alone I would go with Jones I'm also weary of what is happening in St Louis could be a very long couple of seasons for the blues Club tough one again coin flip is what I would say with leaning towards Jones yeah I said what made it tricky uh and I think he said that it was actually one point for plus minus so which it makes it really interesting because I would say Jones all day in a points League which is what this is but that plus minus playing in Chicago is is really really iffy so I would probably agree with flip here and say I'd slightly give the edge to to Seth Jones just for the potential upside in playing with badar but that plus minus is probably going to be ugly Bruce what do you think well if St Louis has a crappy season folks may not be a whole lot better that's the thing so I guess defense-wise yeah the blues have better defense a better defensive core than Chicago does but Jones is going to put up a lot more points than Faulk is too faulk's going to cover the categories nicely Jones not so much but Jones is going to put up more points and I think we had them Fair like projected fairly close I think we had Jones for a couple more points or a few more points um but I think with Bard and in what we've seen in preseason Tyler is there is there potentially 70 point upside with Jones maybe not this season what do you think yeah maybe not this season I think because of the plus minus here in this question uh it has to be Faulk because of the ice time even like Jones is gonna play 25 26 minutes faul is in a second pairing role right now so you're 20 minutes there's a lot even if St Louis isn't very good this year it's a lot less likely that that plus minus is going to be anywhere close to where Seth Jones is going to be um so even if he had 70 points and Fulk only had 50 the difference is still going to be in that plus minus yeah it's really interesting even if and it's weird that it's it's one right plus or minus one point like if it was I think in our league Tyler it's it's 0.1 0.1 yeah because I I I know that in our league like I set it up that way because just so you're getting a point or like it's very small because I mean ultimately it really doesn't matter that much um but to have it as a full point I don't know what goals are worth goals better be worth like Five Points we're dead yeah or more yeah well and so many people you talk to in fantasy they they don't like plus well even just in hockey in in the hockey community in general they think that plus minus is a stupid stat right so there you go uh okay this one's from Charlie P Shay theore or Zack rensky flips response as much as I'm worried about the Columbus backend and ability to keep the puck out of their own net I think this team is much improved on the offensive end and on the top power play a unit which rensy is a key part of however it would depend on the breakdown of your league as theore provides a lot more balance in terms of categories um so I guess he's he's slightly leaning that way I for me I actually I'm going to go wensky just just for the offensive upside uh I like Shay Theodore but he's also splitting some time with with a guy like Alex petrangelo right so um but for me warsky is just a clearcut number one in Columbus Bruce what do you think yeah it's exactly my my thinking too I love both players but I'm I'm taking a W wsky for the upside for sure okay uh and then there's kind of a two-part to this question or second part to this question Charlie's also looking at potentially trading for Andre snoff and he's thinking of offering up nazm Cadre and Zack keny's trade pieces but he's not sure the guy would bite second option would be Philip forsberg and Oz mcadre he has eers on IR with Theodore starting on power play one and a great plus minus so um I guess he's he's deciding who he's going to trade in terms of his defenseman there uh Flip's response is I think you're giving up way too much for one player I like fetch nikov but I would not be giving up NS and rensky for someone who's coming off such a serious injury on a team in Carolina that is clearly balanced but struggles putting the puck on net and generating a balanced offensive attack at times yeah they really they play by commit there Tyler and car Carolina and I I don't know what do you think like I would agree with flip here in terms of just giving up too much for a guy like snov yeah that's way too much I I I think fov's probably gonna get 40 this year but um it's just that's a that's a lot because codre could put up 50 on a bad year um than like just what we said about rinsky I I I wouldn't do it yeah that's it'd be a no for me but um Charlie if you're listening I'd still lean rensky just for the potential upside because I think that's a guy that could score 20 goals this year uh 20 plus goals and and you know 60 or 70 points if all goes well now we we had him projected fairly conservatively Bruce for I think it was 16 goals and 54 points um just given that there is some injury concern there and and things may not go super well in Columbus it's hard to say but yeah you just don't know but it uh on paper it sure looks nice down there so they uh but yeah I still where did we go here where did he go barinsky [Music] 17 goals 18 goals and 54 points there you go yeah wouldn't surprise me if you scored 23 24 goals and had you know 70 points but fantastic for a defenseman yeah he just has doesn't be able to stay healthy right so yeah all right that does it for our mailbag questions thanks everyone that submitted them again we're we're streaming live here on YouTube over at heavy hockey so if you want to submit questions by all means feel free um if not we'll just continue moving on here so let's go to preseason player and future bets and Tyler I've got a couple in here that I know you're going to like um and this is just meant to be a fun exercise please nobody take this as uh as betting advice because I don't think Bruce has ever put money on a on a bet in his life and and and I do it very very rarely and Tyler's a bit of a degenerate but it's pretty rare that he's losing money too so um the first one we're going with here is player to score 40 plus regular season goals starting with Conor Bard at plus 400 I think Tyler from what we've seen early in preseason that I we've got him projected for 42 goals and 74 points so at plus 400 that seems like a reasonable bet but what do you think yeah I don't know they're just so bad Chicago is so bad like he's got a great shot he's probably got the closest release to Austin Matthews in a player I just don't know that that 40 happens this year but plus 400 is pretty nice give a little sprinkle little sprinkle on that one one all right Bruce what do you think I mean are you on board with 40 some goals i' I've heard people say um I think it was Dober had him for for 90 points this year that was his projection for Conor Bard I don't think he gets there I I could see him maybe making it making it to 30 but I I can't see 40 and actually sorry Bruce to cut you off I I just remembered and I don't know who it was but someone on Twitter was talking I think it was um Emily Kaplan she had asked three Scouts and three uh full-time NHL players where they would have Connor badar projected for this season in terms of his point totals yeah nobody said less than 60 points and the upside was 40 goals and 85 points wow so I mean three NHL Scouts and three full-time nhlers I find that interesting but oh hopefully morazi's got a few more assists in him then to get the [ __ ] up to him h i just that team in Chicago looks like it's GNA be terrible so I just I have a tough time seeing it get there all right so we're not we're not prying any money out of Bruce's wallet on this one let's go on to Cole Coffield at plus 450 uh I want to just credit to Matt Lin from daily face off because he this is who I heard this from initially in 83 regular season games played Under head coach marttin St Loui Cole Coffield has scored 48 goals in 83 contests so at plus 450 I'm I'm pretty comfortable putting down a few bucks uh for him to to pot 40 in 2023 2024 Tyler what do you think this one absolutely I think Cole Coffield gets 50 I yeah I think it happen if they're if they're healthy and and things go the way they should yeah all right and then Tyler this is one I was referring to that uh I thought you'd appreciate so Patrick l plus 800 to score 40 woo that's juicy that is Juicy that's more than a Sprinkle that's more than yeah so of course like we said he's got to stay healthy he's played Just 111 of a total possible 164 games uh the past two seasons however in those 111 games he scored 48 goals which equates to a 35 go goal Pace over 82 games um he's LED Columbus and goal scor in the past two seasons I don't know a $100 bet Tyler would pay out 900 bucks on DraftKings yeah I'm I'm just logging on to DraftKings right [Laughter] now and we are not even partnered with DraftKings anymore we should uh should get back on that bandwagon yeah you could you can still say DraftKings like oh sorry okay yeah yeah yeah um no to me that one seems like a a pretty a pretty juicy bet that's when I'm I may actually log on to DraftKings later to Tyler we see what happens all all right uh we got some season specials here so this one Evon van you like Conor McDavid to record 150 plus points at plus 400 I actually can't believe they're still giv plus money for Connor to to hit 150 points I can like if anybody can do it it's him but plus 400 like I would think that that would still be like a plus 600 to do that like you want more I was thinking like that should be that's you're you're being a bit of a homer that's that's a lot of points it's a lot of points to do well I mean so Conor M David he posted 153 points in 82 games last season and he played at 154 Point Pace in 56 games during 2020 2021 um they do look a little bit improved Connor is that much better I think most forwards they they kind of reach their peak season in that 26 to 28 year range he's right in the Wheelhouse like I I don't know look I think if you look at it though like everybody had career years last year and got and he got to that number so yeah plus 400 just seems low just seems low for that I and I was gonna mention Sydney Crosby said he could see him hitting 180 points I think it was what he like he said it wouldn't it wouldn't shock him like at all so I mean what is he supposed to say but I I know I know but I'm just saying like uh Bruce what do you think you g to are we going to prye some money from your wallet for Connor plus 400 yeah I probably could do something if I could pry something out of my well there's more called dust in my wallet that's all you're going to find in there but so the moths flying out moth and dust yeah all right uh that' be something I could look at Matt baly it says Edmonton guys but that is not where he plays he plays for the Minnesota Wild um yeah we wish we played Ron to record Plus or 300 plus shots on goal odds on DraftKings are plus 400 so uh two things here to consider he saw his time on ice last season improved drastically from 1522 to 18 and a half minutes in a sophomore year uh a significant portion of that additional ice time came on the power play where he had 76% power play share just under four minutes of power play time and he really amped up his shot rate to 10.2 shots on goal 60 from 9.4 the year previous so I don't think he has to bring it up that much more and what's interesting for me is that he's playing on a line probably with Joel Eric sck and Marcus Johansson where he's driving play and he's taking all the shots he's the only one that actually shoots the puck on that line that's right so I mean he had uh I can't remember exactly how many shots it was but yeah I I think for me plus 400 for him to reach 300 shots on goal totally doable yeah I mean it's a decent number for that I I would definitely look at it especially considering the line that he plays on just looking at um Bruce you yawning over there me no never but never never ever do that though all right uh 255 shots on goal so we're talking about 45 46 shots here like over the course of a season it's not it's not a big increase I I think that one's a pretty safe bet in my opinion um all right before we move on to the next question here we got another another question from the YouTube channel from mooki Wilson does Lavoy lavois make the team Tyler yes not just because of the goals that he got in the last couple games but with Brandon sted retiring it kind of opened the door wide open for him yeah uh I don't think Peterson's going to I think he'd be a good call up I think he's kind of a a tweener lavois you have to put him on waivers so I think he makes the team if he does nothing put him on waivers call up somebody replace him but I think he makes the team okay Bruce what do you think I don't like Tyler I think he'll make the team I think if they were the way he's shown in preseason here if they put him on waivers now he's not going to be there next morning someone's going to pick him up so I think you have to like Tyler said put keep him on the team let him play and if he falls down then you can send him down because if he falls down during the regular season then the other teams aren't G to look at them they're just gonna let them pass through yeah I'll say mix the team too I think the Oilers they they need some of these young entry-level deals to to make an impact right and so like they can't run out Matias Yanmar and uh uh Derek Ryan for you know like those guys are getting old right their their legs aren't what they used to be and you need you need some and some youth in the lineup right and Lavoy is a big boy he's not exactly a tiny guy either he's what 6326 something like that his Pro his problem though is that he he doesn't play like he's that big but when you watch some of the preseason games he has shifts where he does and you can't push him off the puck if you run into him he just kind of bounces off but keeps possession and then you'll see other ships where he just stops which is why he's spent so long in the AHL on top of how many times he's been injured but he's got the P RV syndrome it's thick he's got it he's got it bad but if he can ever if he can ever click for him like he'd be a really hard player to play against and he's got a great shot sounds like a good bottom six player to me and of course here we are again right we're talking about the bottom six time at the end of the preseason Ian and to be fair we kind of know what to expect out of the top six probably even the top nine right so um another one here from Renegade man 83 Neiman is not making the team if broberg and de her are there yep right honestly I'd rather have Nal there than de har really Nal can skate better he's meaner uh without looking mean like Vinnie does yeah um great great at open Ice hits it's a kind of a lost start um and he's not that bad defensively so you know what I I do recall Neema Lan like we all really like this guy was it last season when he came up trying think he was he he looked good he was kind of he was that sandpaper we needed in the bottom pairing right or as a seventh d man um so it's good to know we have options right we got n and or Dey it's what do you guys say about Brer like I I just he's been pretty quiet I don't I just don't know what to think I I know there's the the eome effect where we're all hoping you know the big Viking is going to just guide the the young kid and and he's going to magically be a top 4 d man but um I don't know I have concerns about robber I I do too like by this by this time being drafted where he was drafted you you should be in the top four and not even be a question and not just hoping that that he can that he can play there um there's tons of stuff that you like good first pass he can skate uh he kind of skates himself out of trouble MH um but then he's just kind of soft sometimes too so I don't know you'd want a little bit more but yeah uh how old is he good question Bruce I think he's got to be 22 or 23 now that was my guess I I'll look it up here say even at 22 like he really hasn't he's 22 yeah he really hasn't a whole lot of opportunity in elves and he's expected to come in there so I'd be I'd be a little more hesitant with him myself but I haven't I haven't watched him play here in the preseason but I I would tend to be a little more more hesitant with him because he's still young he hasn't played a ton of real NHL games no uh to your point Bruce you like this 69 career NHL games there you go good number he should have figured it out but um yeah I think I think it's more where Amon needs him to be than where he should be right now um that's what is it 200 some games for for defenseman I think it's 400 is the number I heard maybe it's 400 that's a lot uh it's hard to to get those when you're up against the cap and you need somebody at a lower cap number to kind of fill in those into a top four spot you just want them to be there um but I don't even know how many aill games he's had because I know he had some injuries there too but um not not a ton either you play uh 2021 22 he had 31 games in the HL last year seven I don't know if these these stats are accurate but um that's from Frozen tools anyway so yeah he's just limited number of games right yeah and that that affects development a lot but he just yeah I'm a little bit worried about him yeah I I think to your point Bruce like just the number of games played you got to be patient with him like he's 6'4 212 pounds you you got to be patient with a guy like that nice size defenseman if you really want him to put it all together because that's uh that'd be really nice to have great skater young player like yeah and he's not going to cost armor leg at this point so uh some stranger mentioned another comment here broberg has been improving albe it at a slower pace so I think yeah we'd agree with that I think my issue with broberg too is he just doesn't do any one big thing that that stands out like he to me I watch games and and he maybe maybe it's a good thing but he's just not very noticeable right uh we got a minute to break here okay um another question here from Renegade man 83 who is broberg going to play with buard needs at home I I would disagree I think buchard is going to play with nurse they've they've been running that out there and I think that has shown in the past it can work and um I think it's going to be better for bro's development if he plays with that com Tyler what do you think yeah I think IDE you'd you'd put brog Berg with EOL and hope unfortunately hope that he does what he did for Bard um I I don't feel like nurse and uh Bard Are Gonna Last together though nurse does dumb stuff through the season does dumb stuff through the season I feel like thinking the he's Tyler I'm sorry buddy I'm just gonna we'll come back to this in a minute we're just GNA go a break here in about two seconds all right and we're back Lively discussion centered around the Evanson wers and what we're doing on defense um yeah thanks Bruce [Laughter] um only took me an hour to see that you know what one of these days we'll get through an episode with zero issues but you know what people can hear us and see us we we'll count that as a win uh Tyler Mookie Wilson liked your comment nurse does dumb stuff LOL um that's he does he does he dumb just dumb things but I think what's GNA happen is buard is going to play there until one of those two does dumb stuff and then they'll go to Grandpa eckol and they'll put them together and then they'll feel like it got fixed and they'll move them back with nurse or I think it's GNA kind of move around a little bit um because y bushard does dumb stuff too like he is just soft in the dzone he makes dumb passes um and he makes those because he he is offensively gifted so he he takes chances that he probably shouldn't lots of times it does work out sometimes it doesn't when it doesn't it it turns out really bad so I think they're gonna kind of move around together now consider this too Evan Bard he's only 23 and and he's only played 184 games in the NHL so again this like whether it's 200 games or 400 games he still hasn't even reached the Benchmark to know exactly what he is like I think he can still learn a lot and improve a lot defensively I think he's actually 35 though he looks older than you and I like for sure yeah yeah yeah um okay a couple more comments here uh here we go it was the style of play this is from it says J I think uh it was a style of play that was the problem they were running with man on man and getting caught out of position because of it uh this year we'll see more Zone coverage yeah good point they have moved to Zone coverage um as long as it's not the Swarm well we don't have Dallas eans uh implementing it and stealing all the media guys Donuts right so nobody does nobody does anymore should be fine yeah uh some strangers said they're trying a new defensive system maybe that eliminates some of the dumb stuff as you said yeah and you know what actually during the break too I I pulled up the line tool on natural statc here um and so from 2020 to to last season Evan bushard and Darnell n nurse together have played just under 700 minutes in 166 games played Cory 4 811 Cory against 582 for Cory 4 percentage of 58.2 two that's actually pretty fantastic uh goals four percentage though 47.4 6 expected goals 4 percentage 58.4 6 um they they actually all the percentages look pretty good when those two play together so I I am really curious to see how they actually do they still do dumb stuff I I can't disagree with that but um looking at the the numbers here on natural statc it looks encouraging Evan Bard without Darnell nurse 54 cory4 percentage Darnell nurse without buard 50.8 five cory4 percentage and with the both of them off the ice cor C4 49% so there you go there's some some woes for you tyers you like to call them wow uh okay we we missed out on team Futures here so I want to talk about team Futures really quickly uh this is regular season points and then we'll uh we'll have some timers here we'll go and run through uh through sleeper so um oh one more one more comment here on nurse nurse is the most polarizing player on the team every defenseman does dumb stuff Renegade man nurse does more dumb stuff than anybody [Laughter] else I I'm not a nurse hater I think um I I don't know I'm not either he just does dumb stuff yep but like you said so does Bard so does so does broberg so like the problem is that nurse plays as many minutes as he does so he has more opportunity to do de stuff yep yep is what it is all right uh Team Futures regular season points Pittsburgh Penguins the over under is set at 97 and A2 points minus 25 for the over- 105 for the under Tyler over under 97 n points I'm gonna say over not confidently if you couldn't tell I could I could I think they're going to be improved a lot but but it's a tough division that they're in so um yeah I I mean they're all they're all getting older there too they I think they all kind of know that there's the last couple years that they're going to be able to kind of do something so I'm just gonna I'm gonna say over but not confidently all right uh Bruce everybody disagrees with me well which is fine no so so so yeah yeah so but you know what Tyler I'm with you I'm actually gonna confidently say the over because and I've been saying it all summer it kind of feels like Last Dance territory for me right great documentary but I just feel like Sid's got more to give so does Malin you've got lutang and Carlson there you've got gensley you got rust you got all these guys who offensively can play you got Riley Smith there now this year um they brought in um uh Graves like who else they bring it like there and I think Tristan jar is gonna have a bounceback season two so for me yeah they played in a tough division but I'm going to take the over I think they have a good season um I think they're motivated to win but Bruce what do you think I'm going to go with the under I think they're going to Flame the end of the season again like they did last year oh Bruce okay good more more trist and Jory for me fantastic all yours man all yours love it okay uh New Jersey Devils Bruce I already know your answer but over under 105.5 points minus 15 what are you taking yeah that's going to be over they're they're going to do some damage this year uh Bruce please don't take Jack Hughes at Fourth overall okay just don't do it but it'd be fun wouldn't it not not for for me not for me it wouldn't I'm not worried about you oh jeez okay he's not getting to 10 anyway even if I did take somebody else at four he's not getting the 10 he could he's been going way past 10 in some drafts nah he's not getting go not in our leagues I guess time will tell uh okay yeah we got mie Wilson taking the Ender there as well and Renegade man Tyler is asking I wonder if Sam G would make the team I wish but no we all love gags but no it's uh it's just I I don't see it happening like they're trying to win right so maybe maybe if there's some injuries or something coming off double hip surgery like there's just a lot of yeah glass hips yes mookie yes glass hips uh all right Toronto Maple Leafs over under one 105.5 points Tyler minus 115 I'm gonna say over but I still think they lose in the first round I'm shocked you feel that way I actually think that they'll probably win a couple rounds this year but but I'll take the over okay Bruce what do you think oh I would absolutely love to say say under but it's gonna be over I'll take the over to they might win a round might depends who they play in the first round uh I was reading today so hopefully it's Boston they might actually be able to beat them this year maybe uh Greg Greg wasinski from ESPN actually has the Evon oers winning the Stanley Cup this year and playing the Toronto map Leafs in the stany Cup Final things things do line up pretty good for Toronto though because Tampa's not what they were um Boston's obviously not what they were yeah so there there's probably a better line for them more now than there ever has been yeah now now feels like the time for them for sure um speaking of the M Oilers over under is set at 106.5 points at minus 115 Bruce you taking what you say well I'm gonna take the over what the heck I'm gonna be optimistic and say over Tyler yeah I'll take the over two yeah you've got your homework glasses on all the time I know yeah okay last one here Colorado Avalanche over under 106.5 points at minus 115 Tyler what are you taking under under nothing to go with it just the under okay and Bruce over under I'm gonna take the overun Colorado too I'm I'm going to be optimistic that mckin and marar and they can all stay healthy this year and that that'll put them over rad those guys are hurt then yeah it'll be under but I'm I'm going that it's over all right I'll take the under as well um I see Renegade man here 83 overend first round exit and still dreaming of McDavid coming to Toronto OH I just hope that never happens because for all the times that McDavid has been snubbed on on TSN and sportset they're gonna could you imagine him he it would be just insufferable like what's next what we got next I'd stop watching hockey um okay potential sleepers so we got we got lots of guys here run through in about uh 19 minutes to do it so for the purposes of this episode we're defining sleeper as a player that is being drafted on average at 150 or later and at least one of Yahoo or Fant trcks these players can be had at Value but have a real shot to make an impact at some point this season starting with some forwards here our 2023 2024 sleeper candidates first on the list here is Nicholas Backstrom Center rightwing eligible going undrafted yahu right now fan trxs might as well be going undrafted our projection for him is 15 goals and 52 points uh I think you know like betting on a guy who had double hip surgery as well or or hip resurfacing at age 35 I'm actually surprised how well he's done in just one preseason game so far he's played almost 19 minutes he scored one goal and just W 90% in the faceoff dot so um maybe a bit of a stretch but this is a guy you can just get off the waiver wire Tyler I think uh if I'm looking for some Center depth Maybe I absolutely would I think I think he's gonna have a bounce back here for sure um and if you can get him off the waiver wire I think at the end of the year you're gon to look back and it's going to be one of the best pickups you'll make yeah I wouldn't uh I wouldn't doubt that for sure but what do you think Bruce yeah the same same thing he definitely doesn't suffer from the uh from what Ryan Kessler did he's playing a lot better since he's he's come back and from the reports here in preseason yeah absolutely he'd be one of the one of the ones to watch absolutely I I found it interesting I actually had some time for Dylan stro you know during the summer when you're doing our season previews and stuff and now seeing how he's being deployed in basically a third line role in power play to zero time for him and and Nicholas Backstrom seems to be closer to what he was a couple years ago in terms of deployment so oh stro is there in case Backstrom has issues that's why stro is there yeah so if Backstrom continues his play stro stay where he is if his hip starts acting up or he needs a night off some Knights off and that's where stro will come in and take that spots and so if you're a person that drafted strome you're hoping that backstrom's hips give out uh next guy up here speaking of the Washington Capitals and and health issues we got Max Patch ready going in Yahoo right now 173 163 in fan trcks our projection for him is 25 goals and 49 points obviously underwent surgery after turning his a killes uh for the second time this past January yeah pretty rough um Washington's new head coach Spencer carbury was unable to provide a firm timeline on the 34 year-old however he did say November or December as potential timelines and so with that in mind Bruce I looked at it and went um he may look to come back on Monday December 4th against the Arizona Coyotes uh because they've got two days off it's followed by two days off and then a two- game home stand so if you're going to kind of ease them back into action looking at the SCH that makes sense and in theory against uh some easier competition uh although Arizona is much better this year than they have been in the past um so maybe optimistic but looking at how many games he's going to miss 49 points and 25 goals do do you like the over runder on that Bruce if he can come back and it doesn't snap second game back like it did last time I I think that would be very very close to what he can do because that would be a if your uh League offers you a lot of ir or IR Plus or whatever spots the are he's definitely worth stashing because when he comes back he will he will put points up okay I I've got time for patch ready Tyler what about you yeah I do too I just don't know to stash him at that 0p of 166 um I'd like it like below 200 um if you're going to draft him and then stash him and try and pick somebody else up but yeah I I think that EDP is a little bit too rich but I I do think that if he comes back he's going to have every opportunity to have a good season so yeah and one thing I really like about patches is his elite shot rate so it um he's second among all skaters five on five from 2019 to 2022 at 11.64 shots on goal per 60 so when he plays absolutely leat in that regard uh someone I have some time for he's going to play in the top power play unit so there you have it uh Sean coutura Bruce this is a guy I know you had some time for uh right now undrafted yahu in fan tracks he's going at an 0p that Tyler would probably like at 207. three our projection for him was 27 goals and 71 points uh Bruce are you keen on this guy for this season absolutely the reports Out of Philly here in preseason say that his back is he's 100% healthy and he's he's playing like there he has no issues I absolutely I would no trouble picking him up in the in the in the late rounds because yeah and most he's going undrafted which is I think almost a crime considering when you look at his previous stats he's been basically when they finally took him out of a defense role as a point per game player like to have someone like that go undrafted I I think in the late rounds you have to like that's that could be a a a season changer for you if his back gives out well you P picked him up late at whatever right but if his back holds that's he could be a game changer for you yep yeah I mean could like you said could be close to a point per game player for all goes well and um he's going to get all the deployments and Tyler you had mentioned I think a couple weeks ago that they kind of uh the wait and see thing is is passed right like they he could have played I think at the end of last season if they really wanted to but they they took some time with him and so he should be back to full health now hopefully yeah that's what they were saying I I'm I'm surprised that he's going undrafted um because a couple seasons ago he was going he was going pretty high um and I would I would definitely end up drafting him um especially at that ADP even if two of seven I'd take him I would take him higher than that but um I think he has a great season just making some notes here while we're talking okay yeah you don't know what what's real or not Bru promise oh Tyler's gonna take him in like the 15th round yeah I know hows Renegade man I I'm fully on board with the with Clayton Keller but not as a sleeper just the fact that yeah I think 40 goals for that guy could happen um I don't even know his ADP right now I should take a look here quick uh Clayton Keller I think honestly Arizona's going to be way improved I was just going to say that too is there any chance Tyler like I I don't think they're going to make the playoffs but could they could they be close to pushing for a wild card spot or something like I think they could I think they're just going to kind of be annoying for other teams I don't think it's going to be the same kind of walk in there and just leave with your two points um yeah I I like I like all of it right from right from the coach down so I think they're going to be definitely improved there was some talk about um the head coach being a nominee for the coach of the year so um if they do get close to the playoffs I think you would have to make the playoffs in order to get that but um obviously people think that that team is going to be improved yeah yeah I think if they make the playoffs he'd be a lock for for the Jack Adams trophy uh just for reference Clayton Keller is going right now at an ADP of 45 so definitely not a sleeper in that regard but he's a player that yeah you should like I'd like to have on my roster too uh let's move on here to Gabe valard you guys know up in talking about this guy All Summer Long uh probably too much I know Tyler doesn't like it but here's the thing uh bonus hates Nikolai eers and eers refuses to play anywhere else on the power play than where Mark shley is playing and so as a result he's playing on the second power play unit eers has made of glass um and here we are so we got today actually they had valard and I follow on the top power play unit with Kyle Connor Mark shley and Josh Mory so take that for what it's worth vardi played 1826 501 on the power play and posted one assist in one preseason game at the time of writing um it's probably pretty likely he takes that top power play Spot and he's going to play at even strength to with shyle and Connor so that guy to me is a steal an 80P of 203 in fan trcks and he's going completely undrafted in Yahoo our projection for him is 26 goals and 67 points seen have you seen the light Tyler no absolutely not I feel a lot like John here I just really don't like him I just really don't like him I just don't like him it's because he played for the Kings right yeah is it the puck tip thing in the playoffs does that just turned you off to vality it's all okay that's fair all the things you do sound like John actually I do I do there something about his face yeah oh man okay um let's move on then but I really like valard so don't sleep on him uh Jacob yakob Verana so we talked about him earlier the thing to not about him he's R he's ranked 19th League wide the past three seasons with a 2.73 points per 60 that's just behind Matthew kak who's at 2.75 and ahead of both our tamy panan and Steve stamp Co at 2.71 and 2.68 respectively so Victor thank you for educating me he may be terrible defensively but the man deserves a little more in my opinion than a third line power play two rooll putting up offensive numbers like that Bruce am I out to lunch or what do you think no I think he's got to play a full season like he's played lots of half seasons and partial Seasons but we got to see what he can do for a full season if he can maintain those numbers for a full 82 games and if he can he won't be on the third line for very much longer yeah agreed we don't move him up and we've got a projector Bruce for 30 goals and 56 points you think he hits 30 this year oh I sure hope so and his ADP and fan tracks 187 I should have mentioned that too so I think if you can get him late like that Tyler even if it's outside the top 200 that's a guy that could pay off yeah I think outside the top 200 I'd look at it but I I just I really feel like it's just in spurts I think those numbers look good based on the fact that he only plays for short periods and something happens that's fair I think he might just be one of those players that just has good spurts so okay for me he's more of a good waiver wire pickup than than kind of a sleeper pick all right um yeah Fair Point put him on your watch list I'm G to try and get through these a bit quicker guys because we got about eight minutes left here so uh kaako is a guy we've talked about fan tracks he's going at close to 300 but he had uh in his fourth season he put up 18 goals and 40 points Mike rup said he could score 30 I think this is a guy who's going to get topl line deployment probably um with mik's abage ad so do we like him for let's say 20 to 25 goals love them love them there you go especially at that ADP I would absolutely do it I think rer is right I think this is the year for him might look like an idiot just don't replay this next year or do or do we'll give you all the credit we'll put it on repeat for you yeah or do or do yeah or do uh Bruce jagor sharing goic we've talked about him you and I a little bit off air right now he's going close to 2 230 235 in fan track he hasn't looked great in preseason uh posting just two assists in four exhibition games and averaging just two minutes on the power play I think the emergence of Matt cornado is really you know put it D is dampen things for Sharon govic definitely if cornado keeps that pace up Sharon goic could find himself on the way down the lineup pretty pretty fast but it looks like they're willing to give him all kinds of opportunity here in the preseason at least in the top six so let's hope that he can uh he can hang on to it all right umna Oliver Oliver bork strands another guy we want to talk about but I'm going to kind of glow gloss over him Daniel sprong I just want to mention he sits third on the Red Wings this preseason at 5.76 points per 60 that is more efficient offensively than Dylan Lin Lucas Raymond and David Pon he sits third in shots on goal uh fifth in individual scoring chances four and fourth in high danger chances four so lots to like about Daniel sprong uh Oliver walstrom another guy we are taking a look at as a sleeper our prediction for him is 22 goals and 49 points I'm ripping through this but if anyone wants to read this if you're listening you can check it out on our website fantasy hockey hacks.com all the writeups and projections are going to be there as well Jonathan drwan I think we all kind of know the situation there Bruce he's looked serviceable next to Nathan mckinn in the preseason he's looked okay he has done a ton but he's he's looked okay okay uh Arthur Cav is another for to look at and then I want to move on to defenseman here so Michael mat out of Montreal his fan trck ADP is 116 uh 64 our points projection for him is 14 goals and 47 points Tyler do you like the player uh maybe as a third fourth or fifth defenseman on your fantasy roster uh maybe as a sixth for me that deep I mean he's gonna play power play one in Montreal yeah yeah I'm not selling you okay well he's playing some big minutes and he's covering some categories too so I I think for me uh he's worth a look as a as a probably a fourth option on my roster uh Bowen Byam Tyler or Bruce we've talked about him and our prediction for him is 14 goals and 42 points boy that would sure be nice it's uh we know the kid's got the talent hopefully he can just stay healthy that's his health is his big thing and that's if he can stay healthy I think he can do it but Health thing for him he played it a 47 Point pace through 42 games last year so and he averag 22 minutes of ice time so again I agree with you if you can stay healthy uh that's probably a nice option he is buried behind Mar and Taz but um I think he's get good bounch ups that way yeah yes absolutely yeah that makes sense uh cam York just because there's absolutely nobody else to play to run the power play in Philadelphia so that guy's going to get an option or an opportunity I should say uh Kaylin Addison for similar reasons there's no one else to run the power play in uh Minnesota Oliver Ekman Larson actually um it's been a really long time since he was fantasy relevant but in the preseason he's actually seeing ideal deployment uh with injuries to Brandon mour and Aaron eblad uh he's getting lots of power play time so I find that interesting maybe just someone you'd pluck off the Waiver Wires he's going undrafted in Yahoo and uh fan track's pretty much the same story there and then goal tenders uh we did an episode recently zero g and Zero D finding value lat and drafts we did that with Nate gr nibblin from uh apples and gos fantasy hockey podcast so go check that one out if you want more information but the three go tenders we want to talk about is a sleeper Philip guau uh Jack Campbell Elvis murin so let's talk about Jack Campbell first we got a couple minutes left here guys but I think just um right now his ADP 167 in Yahoo fan TRS 213 our prediction for him at the time before preseason was 35 starts a 43% net share and 20 wins year one was rough um but it's I I thought this is worth noting too prior to last season he had a 917 save percentage with a 2.50 goals against average if you look at his last four seasons including the horrendous year he had last year MH I think he was still at a 910 or a 914 average over that over that time span yeah so everything looks like he should be bouncing back and even like save percentages down League wide because goal scoring is up yeah um even if he's a 910 908 that's a huge improvement over last season um and if you have both goalies doing that you're in a really good spot I I truly believe we only need League average goal tending like Colorado won a cup with with League average goal tending it it can be done right so did Vegas yeah yeah well in the cup uh well Aiden Aiden Hill was fantastic maybe less so in the I think it was that final series maybe but yeah but yeah they can they can do it yeah Aiden Hill and and uh Logan Thompson were your your go tending T him like yeah you don't need you don't need car price in net anymore to win a cup no no and and fantasy is much the same way right I think Zer G is is really stuck especially for formats where you're not relying on a lot of wins I know Tyler in our ESPN League you know it's five points for a win so yeah goalie goalies are still important in that one yeah yeah so check your formats doesn't make sense um Philip guau is another guy I wanted to mention Bruce and I think playing in Seattle um he looked really good in in the in the playoffs and at the end of the regular season actually from January 1st to the end of the regular season he had a 147 and3 record with a 2.53 goals against average and a 902 save percentage yeah he's been nice it's uh finally found kind of found his found his game again and he's going nice and late so that's good I like that he's looked horrendous in the preseason that at all he has yeah he's looked a little rough um but in fan trcks going at 185 in Yahoo 161 we think he's going to get lots of starts he's a volume starter right 54 starts probably and 29 wins is our projection for him so well maybe he's still on vacation you never know yeah it's preseason uh listen guys we got 15 seconds so I'm just going to wrap things up here if you want to follow us on Twitter FH hacks on Instagram fantasy hockey hacks our website fantasy hockey hacks.com make sure you subscribe to heavy hockey uh on YouTube and uh check out that stream on Tuesday nights 9:00 pm. oers live all right boys uh that's going to do it I think we're done on um on Evon Sports Talk but we're still live streaming here on the YouTube channel so for anyone's still hanging around um if you want to check out our Sunday night podcast um we've been doing them on Thursday nights here Bruce recently but we've got our our fantasy hockey week one preview coming up we'll probably publish that on Monday I'm thinking uh not really sure when we're going to do the notes for that one because we're suppos to record it tomorrow night so we'll find that out get about 10 minutes coming up here we can just Crush just crush them all right anyway uh that's going to do it for this one Tyler yeah we'll maybe see you tomorrow or we're going to see you uh on Wednesday I don't know but thanks for being here Budd see you sometime okay see you guys oh boy [Music] [Applause]
