oh almost ready to get underway and today's starting pitcher Logan Gilbert base runners are tough to come by with him out there Chris well he's been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the last side just missed three balls one strength late with the swing there you got a f count 32 payoff pitch good plate appearance there able to take the walk here's Mark cank Gilbert checks the runner Fitzgerald back in standing base runner with a one-way lead right there all he's trying to do is get a look at the pitcher's move had no intent of stealing on that pitch swing and a miss he was late strike two he's dealing with a great two strike hitter right here the strike nothing [Applause] [Applause] a breaking ball on the inside part of the play requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics if you fly open with the front shoulder there's no way you keep that ball Fair an outstanding job mechanically he deserves that home [Applause] run now Matt Chapman at the plate one down base is empty swings and misses and the count is one and [Applause] two the pitch comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt and there's two gone following the strike out that's a pretty nasty pitch right there I'd call it a power curveball in the 80s it's got so much spin on it and you really don't have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it's going to do before you have to commit it was a good one for The Swinging strike out and now the right [Applause] fielder swing and this one bounc to the ground and he grabs it and foul ground right Ander kicks deals and that one is lifted in the air moving under this one makes the grab and that's the inning the giant strike for a pair as you get another look at the two-run Dinger it's now a two nothing ball game back after this on the show back here with my pal singi and today's starter Logan web what do you have on him Chris well he's putting together a really nice season on the mound ra and the low3s very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage they're not trying to just walk and hit singles they're trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs so when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs that's really tough to beat game in and game out well after scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats and that just misses really good take especially with two strikes got him swinging he chased the change up and one away oh I'm not sure what he was waiting on right there he got a change up and still on it you rarely see that it almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up I mean if you can't catch up to the off speed stuff there's no way you're going to touch a fast ball here comes a pitch there's a swing in a Miss well and those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that he's got to get a better pitch to hit the punch out there and there two out well there appears to be no problem settling in on the mound out there today it looks pretty tough to start this one punching out the first two hitters of this ball game and somebody's going to have to put the bat on the ball put it in play and get something going on the ground sneaks through base hit and that extends the inning for randia Ros Arena now it's Randy Rosara the left Randy Rena the one-1 down the line and it's off the wall but foul Raleigh leads off first with two down to the inning swing and a miss and he got him out number three one left for Seattle they Trail things here two nothing top of the second Tyro estr to the plate second Tyro EST and the righty deals late that time and it's strike two wow good luck C to that one swing and a miss him out came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate couldn't get around on it and catch it out front many times if you do it's a foul ball and you know a lot of pitchers they really don't like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter and when they've got him up against the ropes got to figure out a way to put him away did a nice job right there there and a one two spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see another one out base is empty into Center and that's a base hit these days most outfielders play pretty deep and I'm not sure if that was a factor there not but off the bat you're thinking it's going to be a pop out and it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it here's Kirk cassali and another ball man it first one away on the ground two ball off balance speed there one and that's two one hit in the inning but nothing more than that now to the bottom of the second it's the Giants two and the Mariners nothing bottom half of inning number two and now for Seattle orge panoo one one swing in a Miss nice changeing one ball two strike now one way [Applause] inside foul ball another two two upcoming and a pitch got him swinging for the strike out he notches strikeout number 150 this season yeah there's no doubt electric stuff from the there's just no messing around right now still very early you could see pretty impressive outting here if the strikeouts keep coming in the way they are one thing you have to be aware of though is a high strikeout rate might impact the pitch count as the Innings Roll Along now it's Justin Turner the Mariners down by a pair bottom half of inning number two that one out to right and that is a foul [Applause] ball and a pitch up the middle Fitzgerald whips it to First all here's a one-w swing in the miss him out one away oh there's a small side of relief right there I mean just to keep that speed off the base pass it's not just the pitcher it's other guys that have to think about it from your infielders have to think about that Runner potentially stealing but also be in position to make a play as an outfielder you're thinking about a base hit to the Outfield I got to get to quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base so I think everyone just a little more relaxed that he didn't reach base the onew the C Ball struck him out well classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out that fast ball on the pitch before was up it was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can't make contact ATT and he takes a strike though Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game now all even up and he chases that one and it's a three up three down inning Giants are down one two three but they're on top two nothing as we go to the last of the third here's Josh ro ro and misses inside swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow left field makes the grab on the run one away strike two one of the better pitches he's thrown in this game but he just hasn't been able to do it enough unfortunately you know he could be getting a feel for that slider though so maybe that's empty puts it in the air out towards left Center Ras brings it in with a nice running grab now that's a tough play for the infielder ranging back The Outfield there's part of saying hey where you at outf call me off but he stayed focused and made a nice catch right there two out space is empty stepping in Tyro Estrada pitch misses and it's two and one and that one sliced foul two down nobody on and another [Applause] ball highfly ball right field and Estrada is out and that is that it's a run for the Giants on the solo blast it's now three nothing you're dialed into the show ready to go B four and now it's Julio Rodriguez Julio Rodriguez and that's off the Inside Edge and it's two and one these Mariners just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they're chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the Zone we'll see but I think they have to and that's ball for that could jump start an offense that's really struggled to score in this one don't want to wak a team up with the free pass and stepping in for the Mariners Cal Ry Rodriguez gets his lead needed first nobody Run pitches away and he did exactly what you're supposed to do with it drive it the other way just go with the pitch so now it's the Mariner cleanup hitter Randy a [Applause] Rosara that's in there two and two now [Applause] just missed hitter's got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the Outfield is that the base runner second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit cuts and misses it's a strike out well nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there just a low 90s fast and I'm not sure he was trying to challenge him but that's pretty much what happened very hitable location but he found a way to just get it by it the batter now Jorge palano in there at the knees now one and two he's pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but you can never predict [Applause] baseball kicks Andals ripped to short tosses to First and out of the hand not tracking it into the zone and then also being a little bit anxious not confident in your two- strike approach and so when a guy's in that position you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and Miss as you did right there swing and a miss 9 on the gun just threw that fast by him elevated and if you're not looking up in that location very difficult to catch up to especially with that velocity Bas is empty one away and we're at the top of the fifth swings through that and it's a strike out and two away now and stepping in is the Speedy Grant McCrae there's one away now Patt center fielder Julio Julio Rodriguez up next for the Mariners the Mariners knew what they had signed him in July of 2017 for a little under $2 million when Rodriguez was just 16 years old out of the Dominican [Applause] Republic kicks and fires fast forward to 2022 for Julio Rodriguez to win the Rookie of the Year the Seattle Mariners were then compensated with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the draft in 2023 part of the new CBA enticing teams to promote their good young players that's a really nice play ring back into the outfield for that catch we all know those could be a little tricky especially if they wind swirling around up there Cal righ up next for the Mariners that one finds the zone and count one and two two St two down nobody on here in the bottom of the six outside low the count now two and two well as good as things can be it can be a tough day at the office even for the Skippers seeing the offense just sputter not able to get first match up for him here he's been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season they've had a lot of trouble squaring him up one gone runner at first Turner climbs in on that right side tying run at the plate face hit rightfield palum go around second the throw to third not in time he's safe backto back singles nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly and up next for Seattle Dominic panzone [Applause] Lefty out of the stretch Runners at first and third down the left field line should be extra patience runner from third into score and it's a one-run game and that's a double well that's a big swing of the bat driving in the run with the two bagger anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your ball in play so now it's time to pick him up and that's where good teams they go to they operate on this level of next man up that mentality is what causes them to win series get into the postseason BCE Runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to string m hits together to get a run across the plate and now for Seattle Julio strike three got him swinging and now to gone well this is exactly what you're looking for from your bullpit arm when you roll them out there to start a new inning hold on to a small lead just such a stabilizing effect and I only get the first two hitters but to strike them out that gives everyone on defense a big boost of confidence off man retired here in the ninth well the first batter it's always a big one for the closer you get that punch out you get settled in you feel like you're in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you're going to wrap this thing [Applause] up Andy deals here's the strike of one-run ball game great pitcher duel in this one you get to a certain point where each pitcher is trying to outdo the other go a little bit deeper into the ball game and for these pitchers it really
