British star Dan Evans was left barely able to walk after he won the longest ever match in US Open history Evans 34 pulled off a miraculous comeback in the final set of a five- set epic beating number 23 seed Karen kakenov 67767 64 664 in 5 hours and 35 minutes after winning Match Point Evans barely had the energy to celebrate he hobbled back to his stool wincing in agony as sat down cramping up but finding up some energy to sign a few autographs for watching fans he admitted the Sky Sports in his interview after the match I've got a bad headache now and declared honestly now I just want to go to bed after finding himself on the right side of the history books Evans must now prepare for his second round match against Marano Nan on Thursday Evans declared I haven't played a bunch of tennis this year I just tried to keep fighting at 4 zero I thought I was out I felt a little sorry for myself got myself going and didn't want to go out another slam without a fight and a whimper I could see he was struggling a bit and tried to grab a game at time reflecting on a tough year the former world number 21 said I've had a horrible year I knew I had put the work in but not enough because I was a bit hurt like to think I got a bit of luck at the end nearly blew it at the end but I'm really happy by the closing stage of the match a huge crowd had flocked around Court 6 desperately trying to catch a glimpse of history in the making it was amazing at 42 it really started to get going Evans said of the crowd they sort of sensed it I don't know how many Brits were there but it seemed like the whole place wanted me to win I don't think that has ever happened before it really helped I played pretty good great last point and here we are
