Do you like having your tush toasted
on cooler mornings or snowy days while driving? What if I told you that
at least some automakers were considering charging you a subscription
in order to do so? And at least one automaker already did,
at least in Europe anyway. So subscriptions aren't necessarily new
to car owners since automakers like Toyota,
Subaru and Acura have started charging for remote start through their app
instead of by just clicking a button. BMW took that a step further. Now with an $18 a month subscription
to be able to use heated seats and if you wanted Apple CarPlay or Android
Auto that was another $80 a year. BMW’s board members
met to review their subscription service and ultimately decided
to end the heated seat side of things. This was while they were testing it
already in Europe. They're still workshopping
some additional paywalls like bigger battery capacities, digital keys
and driving assist features. If only all of that practice trying to
make instant transmission actually worked.
