touchdown unbelievable In The End Zone it is caugh for the win hello everybody and welcome to another episode of the Outback quarterback podcast do we need a little slogan or catchphrase like the Outback quarterback podcast the place for all your Australian NFL analysis yeah well we can think of something catchy that might not be super catchy but we going to brainstorm it a bit all right the uh Outback quarterback podcast with a slogan TBD I am your qb3 Curtis de boy uh with me on my left is qb2 mattm yes he's lasted one week it's it's nothing you've done wrong whatever it's it's nothing you nothing I've done wrong you've spilled water all over your notes I'm qb3 mate how much lower do you want me to go I'll let my Gatorade what will Baker ever jump in in the QB rankings uh it depends how well he per tonight but Chris QB won and the reason is he built this table we're sitting oh okay yeah in about 8 hours I mean we we can't compete with that M that's exceptional play Did It For the Love of the podcast fellas love of the podcast and plenty of free time on a weekend plenty of free time on a Saturday afternoon handy craftsmanship yeah skills far beyond for for it to collapse that'll make I was I saying before that make a great great real great video for the inst uh so congrats H and we did say last week we were just resting you you know like did you get away from from uh the Pod for for a weekend get away from the responsibilities of being qb1 you did that you used your time well and you've created a table in our new studio that's right so I guess the question is for this new studio what do we call it any name ideas Doss oh I don't like it when you just spring things on me but there's no preparation spontaneous creativity not your strength no um I'm not sure what East Terrace Studio you know what name I thought we could call like the podcast Hall like the podcast Hall yeah like a play on I don't know yeah that's a good point we put out to listeners what you reckon get them to send in their best ideas I don't mind that all right that's the call out this week uh any ideas for this new studio extremely professional if you're picturing it in your minds are just imagine Outback quarterback logos everywhere Black Walls there's uh soundproofing on the walls and memorabilia all over the world I can't I can't move for jerseys and that's tell what our future design will look like exactly as opposed to our current template which is very beige off white a table with a tablecloth and Baker Mayfield bobblehead in the middle of it do not peel back the curtain all right this is a people think this is a very professional setup you'll have to start somewhere uh so look football is back is football back can we say football's back there's a first preseason game this week dos so I was getting excited and then I saw it was only one game this week yes that's that's all what ever is in the and then my motivation went two more weeks really they're just easing Us in yeah so Jags versus Raiders Hall of Fame game uh we'll be previewing that briefly later on in the show my boy returns very popular segment we're going through the quarterbacks today bit of grumbling on the uh WhatsApp that there wasn't much talent available from you dos sort of the point of the game to pick a diamond in the rough former qv1 not pickings former QV uh and we're also going to go through what we're monitoring this preseason a couple of story lines each that we're following but before we get there we've got some housekeeping matters so uh last week we had the NFL prediction show it was a big week we had three episodes dropping last week uh we also had the Chris Hadad interview from Victory Sports Doss you happy with that interview that was very good I thoroughly enjoyed that I finished listening to it this morning on my way into work and uh there's some very cool insights for by Chris and particularly a lot of those that might even be playing grid on in Australia or wanting to learn the game uh not just those that simply watch it so um yeah it was some interesting tips and some Basics covered which I liked and he and he put it in simple terms too exactly that's the key there's uh things that he explains very simply for um amateurs like myself hly what do you think of the um let's be honest I think I've actually enjoyed all the interviews we've had so far everyone that's been on the show yeah you're right I didn't listen yet think so that was such a generic answer they've all been great don't ask me don't ask me that is I knew it I knew it oh very good qb1 I was too busy I was too busy building the table well that's fair had it on in the background cut that placee so last week we had I debuted odds and sods and I think that was a hit had good feedback from it um turns out another prominent NFL podcast that I listen to does a segment called odds and ends I was listening to it in the gym this morning and their episode came out 2 days after ours and they did odds and inss so I don't know their first odds and inss no they had a recurring theme song that they played so it must have subconsciously been in my mind I'm going to change the name of the segment Rebrand it it's now Kurt's corner so Kurt's corner is just odds and ends and that's what I'm going to do from Kurt's corner from now we'll do that later on um just pushing a bit of tin around the gym this morning mate yeah it was yeah still building up the legs uh introduced last week the concept of the rb1 which is our fan of the Week I guess and that was nugget very deserving uh fan of the Week we're going to change it up on a week by- we basis but just to be clear it's not like qb1 qb2 where you can get dropped for lack of performance or for whatever reason I decide it's just simply introducing a new fan every week so once you have been named an rb1 as a fan it's like an Olympian you're never a former Olympian you're just an Olympian for the rest of your life so nug is the first prestigious uh in the club this week it's chipper from Melbourne good on your chip because when the Debo Samuel contract extension broke that we're going to talk about in just a moment he messaged me at the exact time that Ian rapperport the NFL Insider from nfl.com tweeted about it so I don't know how chip got a hold of the story so quickly but that is rapid so our very own Insider chipper deserves to be uh 49ers fan chip actually don't know who chip goes for should find we should find out who who chip follows might have bit of a some of the 49er beat Riders there in San Francisco inside sources Debo but also great listener of the show and a commissioner of one of the leagues I'm in too uh chip so thank you very much for your support it is time for headlines all right dos we worded you up this is your time to shine there two big contract extensions this week both wide receivers dbo Samuel as we mentioned got paid three years 71.5 million 58 guaranteed DK meta just a couple of days earlier also 3 years 72 million same amount of guaranteed money similar contract Doss where do they sit in the wide receiver landscape at the moment well look well Metar with his 24 million annually makes him the sixth highest paid receiver in the league alongside Diggs who's the same in Buffalo but the interesting thing is I had a bit of a look at this and majority of and the stats tell a bit of a picture here So Meta if you compare Hill Adams cup Diggs AJ Brown who was also paid in this off season AJ Brown's a good reference because they're similar um or the same draft here Terry McLaren and now Debo Samuel So Meta he is below all of these guys statistically last year and really if I look at meta's three years in the league so far his second year 2020 was big was a good year his rookie year was about the same as what last year was um now if you want to compare so Debo is getting about the same money now so Debo was number one in the NFL for yards per receive at 18.2 last year Elite he had 145 receiving yards which was fifth in the NFL on top of that he had his running game which then makes him a bit more Dynamic there and a bit more of a hybrid with further eight touchdowns he had six receiving touchdowns so if Debo was fifth for receiving yards at 405 meta was 28th wow with 967 he was 28th for catches he was 44th in yards per receive at 12.9 so so you're saying maybe uh a bit lucky to get the same money as Debo is that look I mean he's cuz people talk about him like he's a mega star already and this is I think we get a bit caught up here so he had a good year last year where a lot of the stats that I've just rattled off there he was closer to the top 10 some of them he was in the top 10 for dropped away um in the season just gone now again a little bit like KY Murray being paid on potential rather than production he is Young they're trying to extend him and part of this rebuild that Seattle are going to go through over the next three years metf is going to be a part of it this won't be his highest paid contract his next one will be but having said that you know this season for Seattle is probably going to be pretty bad with Drew lock smith and and Smith throwing the ball so I don't see Meta stats getting all that much better statically this year the reason no doubt he did last year was Wilson was out for quite a while with the finger and you know he had Gino Smith throwing in the ball I had DK Fantasy last year and I actually from memory I thought he actually played quite well with Gino like Gino was throwing it around a little bit and DK was probably his favorite Target when Russell came back he was thrown at Tyler a lot but with G DK like DK still had 12 touchdowns last year he did have 12 that's a pretty decent effort do do you think he's a superstar worthy of this H I think I think they're paying him on potential CU I mean it could break out yeah and and they have to pay him because he's he has all the attributes to be a top three or four receiver in the league but he just has to now he needs a quarterback he needs Drew to ball out a little bit and decal like M he's a jet like looking they remember that chase down like he's an animal of an athlete you mentioned the 12 touchdowns so that was the only what I would say key statistic for a wide receiver he was the top top 10 in the league and he was fourth okay okay so on that um now San Francisco the Debo Samuel scenario is interesting um because he made it he's made it clear that he doesn't want to be a running back yes okay um so the Niners need to play to his strengths obviously we ask Chris had about that last week about how he would use him and his strength is speed and yards after carry where you saw what his yards received last year was 18.2 so I think now speaking to uh Mr Wade Watts who's a big 49ers fan he would like to see Debo used um when they line up at the line of scrimmage Mis mismatches against the linebackers against nickel Corners to get him into space a bit more so what that means is he's not lining and using um auk as well as a bit of a Duo there in in San Francisco uh so it's not so predictable that he's always um lining up as a running back but to create that space uh in the nickel defense there for for him to run into so um it'll be interesting look he Debo's proven in the playoffs he can he can get results he had 100 yards uh with a touchdown in the win over the Cowboys last year he he killed my pack is on a monster conversion third and seven which set up the Robbie Gold uh field goal so he's proven that he can get some playoff results too so in terms of value for money Sam Fran paying the same basically for Debo as what sad for DK I reckon the dbo Samuel contract is better value for money all right good analysis TOS well broken down speaking of wide receivers Hy your time to shine Julio Jones he's gone to the bucks for a year uh he's gone to the buck for year he's he's well he's chasing a Super Bowl obviously he doesn't have one he's a Hall of Famer just he's chasing a ring um and I think he's a good fit I think when Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are back he'll sit at that third he'll he'll fight or him and um Russell Gage will be that third receiver and I think that probably suits Julio now he he's not going to take you know your top Defenders he's going to be the you know him and Gage will probably share um snaps he's not going to be in there as much he's not going to have as many targets he's not going to be hit as much injuries won't come um so he might probably enjoy that a little bit more and to be honest if he does have a good year I could see him you know going around again or for another two or three years if he does play that you know third or fourth string kind of role where um he doesn't have to be the go-to guy it's all about the body really isn't it and like you say I mean they've got the clear number one in in Evans and when Godwin comes back halfway through the year from the ACL um that'll that'll be a huge wide receiving room but in the meantime a room of Evans gauge and Jones if fit is more than handy break it down even even though let's let's not hide the fact that he didn't do much in Tennessee but he was injured a lot last year he had he had a tough run last year now he's got Brady who's a quality QB like he makes wide receivers better than what they are um and Jones is obviously a jet so I mean he's only 33 he's got a couple years left in him if he can stay injury free I think and he thought know I couldn't beat uh Brady in the Super Bowl thought I had him 283 but as well just join was Gage there was Gage there as well uh I can't remember no no he wasn't it was just J no Gage wouldn't have been there then okay um yeah interesting interesting see how that one uh pans out other big news Deshawn Watson the ruling is expected uh the punishment is expected Yeah well yeah Monday us time which is uh By the time this podcast comes out we'll probably know so um on the WhatsApp first thing tomorrow morning yeah I'll wake up at 6:30 and do would have fired our five messages which is great my my morning headlines so uh you've said you reckon he gets a year dos you stick by that yes hly yeah no I'll I'll give it you know 8 to 12 weeks okay yeah I I you've convinced me dos I think it's the full year I think they're going to go hard yeah okay this is as good a time as any to jump in and give you all an update when we recorded this pod on the Monday night the the Watson decision had not yet been made but when we woke up Tuesday morning we found out that as you all probably know by now the judge Sue Robinson who was presiding over the investigation has recommended 6 weeks so as it stands he is suspect suspended for those six games but the process from here is that the NFL has three days to appeal at so does Deshawn Watson so does the NFL PA both the NFL PA and Deshawn Watson have said they're not appealing of course why would Desa appeal it it's only 6 weeks when it looked like a year the distinction here is that the investigation is actually somewhat independent from the NFL so the NFL commissioned the investigation and they recommended you remember us talking about it a couple of months back they recommended a year suspension that's what they wanted and they said they won't settle for anything less than 12 weeks Robinson has come back and recommended 6 weeks based on her findings and now that leaves the NFL in a tricky position because it's hard to distinguish for just the the common punter and fan that the NFL itself is separate from the investigation it's very confusing but I think in all likelihood the NFL are going to ponder this and say no 6 weeks is not enough we appeal that uh but at the end of the day they have the final say so stay tuned at the moment it's 6 weeks I have a strong suspicion it'll end up more oh and by the way well I've got you we're moving Kurt's corner to the Friday episode just too much happened in this EP luck going on all right back to the show um jacobe brasset has been splitting the snaps evenly by the way with Watson at training camp so they they're getting he's going to be playing week one absolutely he is uh Chris Carson has retired the running back from the Seattle Seahawk just 27 years old feels like he's been around a lot longer than that but just disappointed for him yeah it's it's a sad end really a guy that was picked 249th in the 2017 draft it was four picks away from being Mr Irrelevant um and and produced a lot more than expected for picked that L had two seasons one where he went uh 1100 one where went 12200 yards so those two seasons in 18 and 19 were very productive top 15 fantasy running back those years um and he was just a bull you know so hard at it and one of those one of those guys that unfortunately um the the toil of the job has has taken its toll and neck injury is meant he has retired so uh all the best to Chris Carson in retirement and that opens up a little uh scenario for your mate Rashad Penny who you called out has to have a big year this Crossroad year for rard yeah ab and and that was part of the reason that I I saw him as such an interesting one this year because I thought Carson with the significance of the injury wasn't going to play much if he did go on um and then yeah drafting Walker is an interesting one to see where he sits so I reckon it's Penny's job to lose now for the first do you think Seattle drafted Walker knowing when was a draft three months ago nearly two and a half carum may be um long shot to play and could potentially be career ending injury and honestly I don't think they saw Carson as the number one anymore because he was 27 Serious injury if he got back he's not an rb1 at that age with that history they share the SN yeah so see how that plays out uh Chase Young from the Washington commanders the uh former number two pick in the 2020 draft on the edge is coming back from his ACL that he did in week 10 against the Bucks last year but he's still a long way away apparently he's on the physically unable to perform list so that's a big blow that perhaps the recovery isn't going as well AC is generally a 52 we 52 week yeah injury yeah so you'd expect him if he's if he did it week 10 last year week 10 he should be back somewhere between week eight and 10 I'm same with odor Beckham Jr there's a lot of tour oh you know should be available I'm thinking but he did that in the Super Bowl isn't that yeah I'm thinking that's 12 months so really that's a whole year gone I understand from AFL it's usually you know if you've done it that week it's 52 weeks later that's generally the week you come back well I've seen a few lately and there's a few in the NFL that they do sometimes get him back a touch earlier that 45 44 week cuz there um I've seen a couple of examples of no Nam bring to mind but I've definitely noticed over the last few years that no maybe they're ready a bit earlier than that but depends on the severity I guess the facilities they have to recover maybe over there they might have something a little bit so I think I think there was a bit of hope that young would be back a little earlier but yeah he's still indefinite ESS so that's a big blow he's an interesting case you know he was number two pick huge coming out of out of college um had s and a half sacks in his first year which is more than acceptable for a rookie player on the edge but last year nine games to that point he only had one and a half sacks so the duo of him and Montes sweat wasn't quite panning out the way they wanted how many years has he just two it was his second last year so yeah uh hopefully we see him back soon U more injury news Michael Gallop the wide receiver from Dallas also coming back from an ACL week 17 last year and they're reporting he won't be back for week one so sounds like that means that's a 36 week AC but the thing is this is a story only because they obviously thought was coming back sooner so understand it then yeah all right let's talk homework ah yes KLA Murray they scrapped it oh so it's old news now but we haven't spoken since in broie uh well we spoke about the contract being signed but we didn't realize I that in there was the the Clause the Clause saying that he need to do 4 hours of independent study a week um and then he decided to call a press conference about it and did you guys listen to it no I actually thought he spoke really well yeah okay he said things like you know this it's disrespectful to um to assume that I'm not doing the study at my size how do you think I could be this good at the game and Achieve what I have if I didn't prepare myself properly which is a fair point oh yes I did see Snippets of this um press conference it could have been a disaster but I actually think he he turned it handled it quite well yeah uh gained a bit of respect for Kyler the way he attacked that and then the next day the Cardinals take it out what's the point point in the first place if you're just going to take it out I don't know NFL contracts but I thought perhaps that's something that is in a lot of quarterback contracts I don't think it is because rapperport was the Ian Rapaport was the one that broke it surprised about it and he was looking for uh the baseball Clause there no baseball CLA clause in Mar's contract y he's not allowed to play any organized baseball for the duration the contract and as he was looking for that he he found that he has to do homework but like he said he summed it up like you probably can't be a successful NFL QB and and just do the bare minimum at the facility like you need to go home you have to watch Vision you have to train on your own yeah and if he wants to play fortnite while he's got the iPad running with Vision on the background then or do you think Brady Rogers those guys go home and and don't think about the NFL or watch Vision like of course they do well I was going to ask Hy um what's in your contractor how many hours of Independence paid enough for anything to be in the contract mate uh I want to see a copy of your contract they're pretty long yeah they put on the sample database I think Ian rapper PA is pouring through it as we speak other injury news very quickly from training camps so Ryan Jensen uh the tough one the center from the Bucks is serious knee injury they haven't confirmed what it is yet sounds like ACL sounds like so it be back week three yes apparently exactly all so it looks like uh season's done for unfortunately that opens up a hole in front of Brady so a less experienced Center to be protecting him TM Hill from New Orleans former quarterback now tight end he's got a is he is he tight end he's a tight end now he's converted to tight end they got enough in the room they got jamus Winston Andy Dalton and Ian book so they're watch Tam start week six at quarterback something will pop up it'll pop back yeah you have a cheeky throw on a yeah def definitely he's going to have three throws for three touchdowns this year all on on design plays uh so he's out for quote unquote sometime which doesn't sound good Chase clayo has a shoulder injury that's being evaluated may miss a few weeks particularly over the preseason Pat fouth from the Steelers as wellat yeah he's got a bit of a hammy bit of a dodgy hammy he'll be okay they're being kg with the with the timeline as long as it's not attending we'll be all right so we won't see him in in the next couple of weeks of preseason uh Seahawks safety Jamaal Adams very badly broken finger apparently needs a special glove to play and considering some surgical options thinks he can push through but you know this but this is a guy that they gave up a couple of first rounders few years ago with a finger it'd be worth getting that right it's not worth trying to play through it and then all of a sudden at week six you're like I can't get through it and then you hit then then the surgery and then that's the season this is a guy that needs to produce pretty soon to make his tenure at the Seahawks worth worth it yeah it's interesting and finally Maris Brown has a bit of a Dicky hamstring Hollywood yeah they they again playing it down they think it's minor but not the news you wanted in the back of mind with Hopkins already missing the first six weeks of the year with his suspension if it is a four or five weeker then that's a week or two isn't it and if you do rush them back then do it again Arizona reporting that Zack's absolutely tearing it up though down there so oh good yeah I'm sure all those train performance reports are very reliable car will need him to I saw a h it's the season TJ's on fire from the training report apparently breaking news good player plays well in training cam Haywood in Pittsburgh I saw I saw a tweet about uh Sam darnold in the first scrimmage had four touchdown throws and 13 completions and Baker had an interception a sv7 no contact so darnold's now apparently leading the quarterback race when we come back tight ends was first and I didn't have pick one and you had receivers yeah we have we only had tit end and receivers we had our draft special one which I don't think we had an order because we were pretty confident that out of 260 guys we should be we shouldn't trip up I actually think we may have told each other beforehand who we picking two so you're you're pick one tonight I'm up oh you reckon that was a stit up let's do the QB B while I'm there's one probably decent starting QB in there probably I think there's two decent there's three starters and two that one that's proven yeah so does that mean I'm pick two yes it does I don't care that's fine I just pick young guys more me so just to to recap the rules uh for for those listening no more than three years experience so we're saying drafted in 2019 so 19221 we're not counting this year yet uh but you can pick a player from this you can pick a player from this year so they can't have had more than three years experience playing in the NFL they can't have been a firstr draft pick and they can't have won a major award like a rookie of the year or player of the year yeah so which none of these cats have that's right no danger according to Dos let's just do you want to recap our teams cuz I'm sure we've you know forgotten a little bit I've got it all here don't worry okay good um cuz I didn't so Hall you're the only guy that has a running back so far you picked Bree Hall from the Jets you picked him you picked him pre-draft and said you know um really Hing it goes to somewhere like a a contender the Jets to the Jets and uh well it's between him and Michael Carter if he beats out they might have a bit of a share for the first year anyway that's true your wide receivers good room to start with T Higgins AJ Brown yeah and then then then tawon Thon you picked out of spite because I called it the worst pick of the draft boy uh and then for your tight ends you've got Albert oaam yep and Cole KT maidman your wide receivers you got DK meta Michael Pitman and Amon Ras Brown very nice picks there You' also Drake London he was your special draft oh yeah you got a good saer and for the draft we said no rules you can pick a first rounder if you want uh tight ends Pat fouth great pick Harrison Bryan I'm not on that one but we'll see how that pans out and myself I've got wide receivers of Debo Samuel Deontay Johnson Elijah Moore jamson Williams as well he was my special draft pick and then Dawson Knox and Brevin Jordan from the Houston Texans nice we need a running back draft pretty soon we do QB's now running back soon and then we go I don't know kickers all right well you seem ra offensive L guards will probably be the next one coup in PFF are we going through are we going through offensive defensive coordinators and uh yeah and long Snappers do that yeah I reckon you could pick three I then we could do a defensive one where we'd pick like say three or four core defensive guys they could do that just the big do not individual position let through the QB through QB Focus we got the QBs right now uh and this is an interesting one like as you alluded to Dos there's not as much talent around or availability around as there are the wide receivers and I was I was looking through and I thought yeah whoever's got pick one will be all right whoever's got pick two okay whoever's got pick three probably doesn't get a starter and I think that's well you may get a starter you may get a starter not one there are two guys that I had in my top tier and I I struggled to pick between them I ended up going with our boy Davis Mills who was now my we've talked him up a lot on the show um I just fell into a so pick I know this means you'll be taking uh a Philadelphia starting quarterback I will be the thing is there's a bit more negativity amongst the football World about jayen Herz and I like him I like him better than a lot of people do but I'm not sure if things don't go well from him this year I'm not sure he's a starter in the next few years the Eagles but Davis Mills however will be a starter at least for for this whole year and if he goes if he surprises people like he did last year with a very impressive rookie year when there weren't big WS on him then I think he can hold down the position for a little while but I like Davis I'm going to back him in I'm going to back in the neck and he's my neck is a long neck um so you are happy then hly I'm happy mate hurts he's my boy very happy with that eight and seven last year I mean like you said last year wasn't a huge year but it's still only his second year in the league uh um and if he does I mean he still rushed with 780 80 yards last year oh he's a great Runner us his leg and you'd expect all of these stats just to start to increase a little bit each year and all of a sudden I've landed the jackpot and I don't know about the jackpot but take it easy I've landed a mider starting quarterback but that's as good as we've got he could be a divisional winning quarterback this year could well be could be could well be got some good weapons around him all I mean that was the obvious choice so you've taken that and I've potentially gifted you something but I took a risk dos who you going with now this is where it gets interesting Mills and Herz are off the table who have we got yeah so now we're in the have we got in the dgs are you going a backup or a potential starter in Seattle or are you going one of the new boys no I'm going to go one of the new guys I'm going to go with um Desmond rder yeah I like it he was probably my next pick he was my pick of the non first round if I had a third I would have been between him and yeah can't give can't give it away yeah so so look rder his record at Cincinnati in college was was excellent now there's some skepticism around where who you were coming up against but look he's I think it was 45 and4 by memory just win loss record um he's obviously got some you know flaws in his game but he's got some really strong um points in his game too and look marota is is no sure thing there it won't take much for R to become the starter will yeah and I I think marota will start or in fact at Lander have come out and said that he will start yep week one uh injury pending of course but um that gives rter I think a chance look he'll have Drake London he'll have Kyle Pitt so I'm hoping that you know maybe cha five who AA him too five or six um weeks into the season that just might be enough for Atlanta we've seen enough of Mariota let's give rid of some snaps I like it it's a sound pick I think it's smart now I am glad you took one of the new boys because I'm not going one of the new boys I'm taking who I think H was going to take next and that's Gardner Mion taking Garder I wanted him so I was hoping it would turn out this way because that's sort of why I lent with Davis because if this turns out my way then Herz loses his job at some point mu takes over and all of a sudden I've got two and your main pick is done whereas I assume you wanted to take the lock well yeah I'll take take both Philly and you've got a winner either way yeah I I wouldn't I like M I think we spoke about it beforehand because he what he Ren outed a police prison bus lived in it for 5 months and like you've seen the photos of him inside of it and you're like this guy's a lad he is a lad and like we were saying off air I thought it was all just an act at the start but it's gone on too long for it to be an act he must actually be a little eccentric and exciting and I I I was skeptical about um I just think him generally because I like I said I thought it was a facade but now that I realized that's actually what he's like I look back a bit more favorably on his time as starting quarterback at Jacksonville and I think I and many people were more down on him than we should have been well the passion he had yeah well the passion he had when he hugged his dad after he had that win it was like that was genuine like it was they were both just so pumped about it and I mean yeah sure maybe he's not a franchise Super Bowl quarterback but he's he could be a decent starter for a lower end team I think I mean 21- six was was his touchdown interception ratio in his last full season season um played at Jacksonville which were have been a basket case for a while now and when he backed up for Herz when he was out last year at Philly he played very well so I think Gardner we may see him as a starter again one day hopefully we do so who does that leave you with with your pick uh Drew lock okay so you're backing him into to be starter I'll take Drew I'll back him to be the starter I'll back him to give metu a good season mhm prove us prove us wrong um I think I think he'll start only because to be honest I don't know if there's anything else on the QB list to take what have you got dos well he's another one of the new boys it looks like well yes someone taking the fourth round of Youth policy real youth policy he come on man own it these are your boys you love these guys take it easy all right um my wide receivers and tight ends yes yes not so your not not so gun ho about these I'm going to go with Malik Willis now the reason for um Malik is because uh tanah Hill is fairly just with what happened in the preseason I don't think the Titans are going to have a great year this year uh they were a bit of a fraud as the number one seed last year in the AFC so with that being said they lost AJ Brown they got um woods from the Rams across didn't they and they drafted TR on Burks apart from that not much else and Wood's also returning from a significant injury and I can see Tennessee unless Derrik Henry Stomps all over everyone which he could well do year likely that he will well we'll just see how he goes I mean he's coming off again an injury plagued year I'm just not sold on Tennessee that they're going to have and if they're three and six three and seven the noise will start down there in Nashville and I think Malik may just come in and have a look towards I probably will and see this is the problem they've created for themselves by randomly drafting Willis when they have tanah Hill right and tanah Hill wasn't great in the playoffs he started and ended their loss with a with a pick it was pretty ugly but he's still their quarterback and I thought he would be for the next four five years so it's made it so muddy now because who like you say who knows what happens is it because they want a backup they just want a cheap backup and so you draft someone late in the draft I guess but they have to know that the pressure is going to come now because there'll be tanah Hill haters in amongst the fan base and the screws will be turned if you like you say th if they have a poor start so I think it just creates more headaches for them really if you get an experience back up no one's screaming for the for the change right correct so you go from Tennessee that were the number one seed last year won the won their division I don't think I picked Indie I think they'll win that division this year I I can't see him beating too many teams in in the AFC this this year AFC is very strong as well all right prediction 12 months time so week one 2023 not this season the season after does Malik Willis start for the Tennessee Titans or does Ryan tanah Hill start in one year time bit hard yeah right Willis nice confident your boy all right that's my boy building our rosters we'll be back with some pre-season going to talk about preseason more generally at the moment what are two story lines that you that we're monitoring uh each we'll go around the table what do we want to see out of this preseason what are some things that are intriguing us that we want answers to over the next few weeks dos kick us off mate oh okay you know I actually had Deo Samuel contract as one one of these because we prepared this obviously uh over the weekend for this so that's interesting scrub that but the situation of how they use him um that will be back will be will be interesting particularly towards the back end of the um preseason hasn't really been in any train involved in any of the training camp holding in is what they call it where you you roll up but don't do anything um as opposed to holding out St at home and not do anything so it's very I'm intrigued by how that would work so you turn up to the fac change rooms and probably throw some tin around I guess just do a bit of work but that's yeah and that's enough to not get fined right yeah because you're there cuz you're actually there it's just so bizarre like you see all all your mates or your teammates they look at you and think well you're not training with us cuz you want more money bad culture terrible culture it's bit selfish I think yeah you ever done that o out for I I haven't signed my contract yet I'm just going to do curs in the corner hold out what do you reckon you reckon I've ever done curs in the cor no I just this 3x10 bench press 3x1 curls go and splash some water on my face in the toilet yeah that was a tough session fellas walk out with a Powerade see you guys catch you tomorrow um yeah so that situation is one particular one that um I'm looking at seeing how that develops over there in San Francisco holy uh I'd like we spoke about him last week but it's Michael Thomas if he can get through pre I imagine heed he's not going to play week one there's three pre season games correct yep won't play week one week two quarter maybe and then week three I I expect to see him for a half maybe three quarters um and I'd like to see how he gets through that little you know patch of of you know competition competitive work um like Dennis Allen the coach said that it's like having another number one pick on your roster because of his back now uh and if he has a three qus of a normal Michael Thomas season then that's still Elite hug I'm I'm bullish on Thomas yeah you are so I need him to be I need him to be good the other thing he's he's going in round he's going in round seven of NFL fantasy drafts which if he has a value yeah great value so if he can get through this preseason healthy then he's uh yeah I'd like to see what he can do and Jamie does like to throw the ball a little bit Jam Jam I just always call him Jamie him Jamie you know my problem is nugget hates I call Julio Julio and I made sure tonight I didn't but you mean Julio yones Julio holes but uh yeah I'd like to see how Michael Thomas goes in the next month um hopefully for his sake he he he stays healthy good one uh I'm focusing on Baltimore there's a bit of hype about them about you know how they're back they could take the division uh from Cincinnati but I suspect they're in a bit more trouble than we think running back room is a problem G woods and JK Dobbins both tore acl's last year both still currently on the pup list physically unable to perform despite all the talk that they'll come back and dominate they're still not ready and that's an issue they they had their uh veteran I guess insurance policies last year and latavius Mar and and uh Devon Freeman but they're both free agents now so they're two guys they're counting on to run the ball are still coming back from AC's then the wide receiver room Rashad Bon we talked about he needs to step up in a big way he's their number one at the moment Deon duven is behind him not a lot else other than that James PR so wide receiver room question mark running back room question mark and Lamar I mean safe to say I think or fair to say question mark because he wasn't Lamar last year well the thing that probably saves them in that running back room is that Lamar can run the ball he's a quarterback and running back yeah they're not going to lose out in that running game because you know they might just pump him up two or three carries a game I mean they overall will lose out I mean yes he's an asset but he's not going to replace a full full running running room but compared to say a Brady that doesn't have a running back yeah that's a fair point but yeah I've just got a few more question marks on them and people seem to be glossing over them so we'll see how Baltimore go dos yeah well I'm going to take some bit of Green Bay bias here and look at the receiver situation and Q oh the and what happens well Jordan love will will play uh a portion of the the preseason games but just in terms of uh how they set up with Christian Watson I'll be to see how his progress goes over the course of the preseason particularly by the time we get to the third and fourth week Romeo dubes as well another yeah new wide receiver yeah see how he goes bull not so confident on him um and then just how they use AJ Dylan and Aaron Jones particularly in the backfield I think Jones will get used a bit more for his um receiving as opposed to he's running this year uh but to see just how offensively they line up particularly as we get into problem we week four the pre-season so what do you think that could be more of a time share like a 50/50 yes you think it be more than one I think I think they could be looking at using Aaron Jones as a bit of a hybrid yep not quite not as explosive as what dbo samas obviously but um a bit more of a hybrid setup with AJ Dylan as primarily the running back there in Green Bay so and Rogers won't show up until the last preseason game and he'll play a half if that so y strong strong running back Duo isn't it and I think that's what they've based their the theory on this year because yeah because receiving was Rogers can lift or make average receivers probably slightly better than average some even maybe to become good receivers so but there's only so much he can do and um you know with the with what he's got there to work with so let's see how they go hly uh uh Miami Dolphins running back room there's three of them chase Edmond Sunny Michelle rahee moer my gut feel as Edmunds takes the majority of the snaps I I'm thinking somewhere around the 60% Mark uh and then Michelle and muster kind of share what's left over and I think Edmonds can probably become a bit more of a receiver as well out of the back field and Gaskin is still there as well so they got four guys see I liked I liked I had gasin Fantasy last year and I liked him but I didn't like the Dolphins and the Dolphins just they just they just couldn't get him they couldn't make it work but I liked him as a as a player and see that's going to be amongst those four guys it's going to be a puzzle we won't know until week one really I mean we'll see amongst the four of them a time share of sorts over the that's why it could come down to these preseason games though you know if Sun Michelle comes out week one and has 130 yards on 14 carries or something then they might look oh here we go and and Mustard's back from injuries too and and c I think Chase Edmonds is the number one I think he is number one I don't know if he's like I think he is the number one at Miami I don't know whether he's good enough to be a pure number one so question without notice with Brian Flores out at the end of last season and who is who's now Mike McDaniels Mike McDaniels thank you the name Escape me how do they set up in terms of what they had last year under Flores versus what they will look this year under McDaniels well McDaniels uh from the 49ers loved the the committee you know the running back committee had moard at the 49ers there so um guys like Elijah Mitchell Trey Surman Mard he he rotated them all through that's the way he does it so I think it makes sense that he's gone and got or acquired four guys that can perform to a pretty good level and you know they're all BG graders maybe low low BS low to mid BS maybe of C+ for gasin but put them together if they work under a system I think and if they're all happy to play in the system as well cu four though I know it's a lot isn't it it seems one too many but I guess gasin and Mard have had their injuries so that's a good one good one to monitor Hy uh who have I got so well I was going to talk about the quarterback battle in Pittsburgh yeah I we talk about that actually because apparently Mason Rudolph is is leading at the moment hearing whispers of that yeah I saw that was interesting cuz I was looking at that as obviously a storyline that pretty much everyone's going to follow largely because he was the only one Kenny picket drafted in the first round for a q Rod Rudolph I would have thought trabitz would start week one and then but I wouldn't have had when was the Rudolph news that he's leading cuz now I'm looking it says two days ago trabis is leading yeah well I suppose it depends on the outlet watched 35 minutes of training and made their mind off I thought Mitch would be the clear number one I didn't really give rudol a chance to to be in the mix um that said and apparently Kenny picket still training with the the thirds so oh is he um yeah so he's not taking many many leading reps in training camp so they're just going to be patient with Kenny we won't see him in the first maybe we'll see a quarterback committee something different oh yeah well like T you don't think P will get any preseason I think I think we're play in the preseason that that was the other thing I want to see him I want to see him play I want to see all these new guys play and I'm sure considering none of them are um died in the wall starters at the moment we will see all of those qu surprised if Kenny plays week one uh preseason week one and then whoever's second plays second week and then whoever's their current starter plays the third week so that's yeah that's what it's exciting next few weeks um hopefully all those five guys we get to see in action the problem is Kenny will play week one with a whole heap of backups yeah that's right so he'll be a bit you know he's not throwing Chase also playing against a backup defense too correct yeah yeah it's a fair cool I mean it's it doesn't balance it's still going to be harder on balance playing with those guys it's like running uphill and running downhill correct it's not as easy as it is downhill as it is hard uphill yep yep good analogy yeah I don't mind it off the top of your head look pretty good I was going to talk about the KC wide receiver room but um I'll save that for another day actually no I'll do it uh because he's a Chiefs fan he's getting nervous he's just getting a little I am getting I am getting a bit nervous because they've added pieces and I think we've mentioned this um and your pieces don't equal up to what you lost in Tyreek I I hope I hope that the pieces are greater than the sum of their parts that's what you're hoping for Juju can be very handy VZ scantling I'm not sure where he's at it's not like he's coming from a bad quarterback came from a great guy and he was only okay and Sky Moore and then M Hardman as well how does he Step Up is he the lead guy who is the lead gu mle has been talking himself up a bit yeah he does that in the uh just on a couple of shows I've seen Hardman reckons he can have a big year this year of course he's going to say that at show yes so is he number one there uh I I know Kelsey's tight end so and he's really Mahomes number one guy if if if Hardman breaks out I reckon he'll give Smith Schuster a run for his well we've spoken about Brady and Rogers being able to create good receivers out of average receivers Mahomes is a pretty good quarterback so you'd expect him to be able to do something similar with these guys like we've only ever seen uh Hill with Mahomes correct he's never had another quarterback correct so he he only ever had one of the best quarterbacks probably one of the best that will ever play Hill is fast he's strong he's a good wide receiver but he's had a very good quarterback throwing in the ball it's true and a very good coach re you may have had Alex for his first year think maybe did yeah but you know rookie yeah anyway all right there our preseason story lines that we're looking at bring on the [Music] [Applause] games so first game of preseason Jacksonville Las Vegas this Friday now we won't go into into depth uh for the previews for this or for the other uh or too many of the other preseason games we'll do a general preview as the weeks go by but uh first one just thought we'd we'd cover off a little bit about these two teams heading into the season so it's the Hall of Fame game uh the old Standalone preseason game for the kicking off the Pro Football Hall of Fame festivities in Canton Tom Benson Stadium as we said we won't see many starters in this game you never know might see one or two a cameo appearance but about the teams generally we know Jacksonville had a shocking year last year and they haven't done much lately since Blake Bortles took them to a championship game uh what five five years ago now 3 and 14 obviously had the number one pick Urban Meer disaster sacked at 2 and 11 interestingly their three wins last year were against Miami decent Buffalo when they beat them 96 and held them to no touchdowns in insane uh and now the infamous win over Indie which ended Caron wentz's tenure there and cost the Colts playoffs um so it's pretty much a fresh start now for Lawrence and etn we talked about Travon Walker's drafted Deon Lloyd the linebacker from Utah was there first is there now first rounder they spent the most money out of anybody in free agency this year Christian Kirk yeah Evan Ingram look at Christian Kirk compared to DK met that look at that and Kirk was just above meta in a few statistical categories last year from a wide receiv point of view now whether he's a leader I don't know but the amount of money they spent for not that much return they brought in Sher to protect protect Lawrence and that makes sense Pro Bowl guard but um yeah seems like a panic spend from I think this game might be have some sort of appeal come in season purely because of what you said they've spent a bit a lot of money so you want to see how these guys go you want to see how Trevor plays and then obviously you want to see how Devonte goes with Derek Carr and but we're not going to see any of that this week so no but what we will see is a Doug peton influence you know new head coach Iran Myers gone peton Super Bowl winning coach with the Eagles will we see Travis at the end this week it's a great question I think so I yeah I don't think so because they want to protect him but Al and also you might see him for the first set Downs maybe but also do they want to get more game time into him I'm not I'm not sure thing uh but it's fun you mention him cuz he's the guy got a player to watch for both of these teams in preseason he's the guy to watch we we want to see what he looks like no one's really seen him since week two of preseason last year so well training camp they said he's looking pretty good oh well no need to play him there everyone is Prime in training camp uh Vegas on the other hand they had a a pretty good year second in the AFC West they were six and seven at one point last year won four in a row to go 10 and seven that was under Rich Bacha uh obviously John Gruden both controversial coaches for for these team Meer and now guden he was dismissed with the email Scandal so basaria took over it's now Josh McDaniel but they won that last game of the year to beat the charges and go into playoffs of course if they tied then they both would have gotten in but for some reason Brandon Staley took a timeout that goes down in history uh Vegas made the playoffs and lost um against Bengals bals yeah6 a fair touchup car was pretty bad in that game actually that was his first playoff game in all those years Y at least he got the monkey off the back well is he played one it hasn't one one yet but anyway uh so they also lost rugs Henry rugs last year obviously the the uh yeah awaiting a court case for the tragic car accident Damon Anette another high draft pick had the gun video so he was cut so they just had all of this crazy stuff happened last year and somehow got to the playoffs and now it's a bit more calm they got McDaniels in sorry Josh McDaniel in Derek khr now has his best buddy Devonte Adams uh other players stepped up last year Hunter infro was was really good in rug's absence Max Crosby had a great year Daniel Carlson the kicker they got some really good Darren Waller Darren Waller um and then they got promising guys like Devon Diablo the the safety who was great in his first year picked up Chandler Jones linebacker from Arizona that acquisition that's a win now acquisition that's a guy that they think you know he's 32 big coin too it's the same as Adams they're picking up guys because they think yeah they're a chance now and good on them what's what's the point if you're not playing a win exactly right uh they traded for sin the cornerback from India who's underrated I think he'll fit in fit in nicely so I say all that to say it's coming together despite the chaos of last year it's coming together in Vegas and we won't see much of those guys throughout the preseason but one guy I want to watch is and you'll hate this because he's a guard dos so feel free to tune out Alex Leatherwood why would I hate that you hate guys I just don't think they're a top 10 player well may not be a top 10 but this guy according to the scouts last year was a top 17 player because that's where he was taken in the draft in 2021 uh so they spent the 17th pick on him and he had a bad year do is not happy have a look at the guy he looked he uh John Gruden at the start of the year was looking about as happy as you are now dos when he saw Leatherwood play first few times he was think why do we pick him at pick 17 with our first round pick yeah should have picked another guy someone more Zack Martin s taken him earlier Quint Nelson Quint Nelson um but he was a bit of a mess last year Le wood gave away plenty of penalties just looked generally sloppy and overall they need him to perform so um um yeah I I'll practice my guard analysis over the preseason watching him uh not going to take a tip because who knows what's going to happen in preseason games but not real bothered by the game oh good want me to cut this whole [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] segment all right that's the show for today boys good show Hy I was happy
