Strictly's Amy Dowden reveals how Tom and Giovanna Fletcher saved her life amid cancer diagnosis

giovana and Tom Fletcher are partially responsible for Amy daen catching her breast cancer on time after being declared cancer-free the Welsh professional dancer is due back on the Strictly Come Dancing competition ahead of the BBC 1 Show's 20th anniversary where she first met Tom Fletcher Amy 34 was partnered up with the former McFly singer and guitarist in 2021 which ultimately led her to meet his wife and the mother of his three children as she recorded this Monday August 26th during a chat with this morning presenters Craig Doyle and sha Welby remembering their bond Amy then shared that giovana Fletcher had encouraged her to get involved in the breast cancer awareness campaign copper feel prompting her to go through the now Infamous checkup that led to her breast cancer diagnosis so I was paired with Tom Fletcher on Strictly Come Dancing Amy explained and the Fletchers welcomed me into their family home and I've become really close to giovana Fletcher and she got me in the copper field Trek and whilst I was there I was like hang on I'm a bit of a hypocrite I'm here getting everybody to Copper feel to check their chests and I don't check myself then a few months later unfortunately I found a lump so really strictly kind of Saved My Life by pairing me with Tom Fletcher despite finding her her lump the day before her honeymoon Amy revealed she didn't deprive herself from the trip but she immediately visited her GP upon her return earlier during the exchange Amy admitted she still had to keep up with monthly injections for the next 5 years which she had already recently mentioned however the dancer added that she felt like the old Amy had returned particularly as she recently headed back to the strictly training room my tests are good everything is positive Strictly Come Dancing fans will remember that Amy had to take a break from the Dance Floor last year after she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer at the age of 32 she has since undergone a mastectomy and chemotherapy earlier this year she then announced that she was in the clear in a new interview with the mirror and other press Amy admitted strictly was her Savior and all she wanted was to be back on the stage she described it as a reason to get herself out of bed every day she said strictly was my savior kind of thing to push me through to get me back on that stage that was the goal I'm very go driven it's always been dancing so I wanted to get on Strictly that was a reason to push myself to get out of bed to be able to go down to strictly doing the treatment as well when I was getting through the bad days knowing it was for strictly it just gave me that push that I needed otherwise you just feel like it's been a hamster wheel and you just need something to give you that push while she didn't reveal who her next partner would Amy told Craig and Shan the competition will be back on our screens on September 4th 2024
