[Applause] [Music] hello welcome to the raw podcast brought to you by the Sunland echo my name is Jason Jones joined as always by James Copley and Phil Smith Lads pleasure to see you on a Tuesday morning this week we had a bank holid did didn't we of course uh transfer deadline there is rapidly closing in on us and I'm sure that we're going to spend the vast majority of this podcast talking about transfers potential incoming Potential outo from the stadium light as well but before we do just a quick word on sunderland's performance against Burnley at the weekend one- nil win over the clar at Stadium L that's now three wins out of three for r just's side no goals conceded yeah um Phil I mean in some respects was this a more impressive display from Sunland than the one we saw against Sheffield Wednesday the weekend before last yeah I I thought so I definitely thought so I thought that because that Sheffield Wednesday came I think probably caught Sheffield Wednesday out a little bit almost kind of Blitz the game in the first half hour I thought this one was was so impressive in that you know I thought some were better in both phases of the game you know they completely dominated the first half an hour probably should have scored more than they did but then only been one nil up against the side of Bernie's quality they then had to play almost like a very different game after that and I thought the way they managed the game in the second half the way they sort of just suck the life out of it really could probably have done more with some really promising counterattacking opportunities I think for sun to show two really different sides to their game and then also see it out with 10 at the end was kind of I thought that was really exciting and definitely something different to what we' seen this season so really encouraging I suppose obviously a couple of days on you kind of look at it a little bit in perspective as well and the one thing I think we have acknowledg is I don't think there'll be a better day to play Burnley this season you know we've definitely caught Burnley in between um if you look at the players who are absent from their squad on Saturday and the players who they're about to sign to replace those players you think KY that was a really good day to play berley but having said that it was still a really strong 11 that they put out and a team that I think would beat a lot of toam at this level so that's not a put a damp on it but I think I'm just looking at it slightly differently and think we definitely caught Bernie in a bit of a sweet spot there but I I really did think the performance was was exemplary and I we spoke about it on on the whistle video on YouTube I said to James about 20 minutes from the end I said even if some don't get over the line I'm coming away from this game feeling really confident and really happy about how strong this team is because the overall performance level was was tremendous so yeah definitely like some caveats to it but I'm just coming away feeling like this team's in a really really good place and Phil obviously mentioned absences there James no bigger absence than Jack Clark for sundland obviously he's gone from the club now and it is very very early days but rain mundle could could hardly have asked for a better introduction to Life as a successor could he yeah he's he's been fantastic he he impressed both Phil and I Dan Bradford in pre-season I think maybe the club do perhaps deserve a little bit of credit for maybe having a succession plan already in place will suland be able to rely on mundle for 46 games as they did Jack Clark probably not but we've got Wilson Isidor now who can apparently play from the left hand side so it seems to me like sundland have have prepared long term for that eventuality hugely helped by the fact that mundle scored a a really really good goal with a really good finish which was which was reminiscent of of clog in a way so I was I was hugely impressed not just by his attack and output as well but by work rate I thought defensively track and back he he was very good he's clearly got a lot of talent Le and mundle mentioned it after after the game though that the key is is consistency what I will say about mundle as well is that it makes such a big difference having Dennis Ser as you left back because whilst I don't think Dennis Cen went outside of mundle quite as often as he did with Clark in the previous two games it was just that defensive stability that allowed raain mundle to to kick on a little bit and it it's it's a hugely pleasing win Phil mentioned there about you know there might not be a better team to a better time to play Burnley and that's true I've seen a lot of Burnley fans lament in the transfer business the state of the squad when when they came up to suland but you know James Trafford extremely highly rated goalkeeper multi-million pound goalkeeper might get sold in this window for another multi-million pound deal Coler Roberts you know Welsh national right back Josh brownhill went for 10 million not so long ago Premier League experience so there was certainly enough in that team to to do sundland some some serious damage it didn't happen sundland managed the game really well and it's it's crazy isn't it because suland have never won three in the league without conceding um from the start of the Season which is a crazy start and it's the first time that they've won three on the Bounds at the beginning of a League season in 99 years so crazy really and we we talk about the sort of the things R La has had to tick off so he's ticked off his first home win his first away win uh and suland have have survived a little bit of a a good check as well with the Dan Neil standing off so there's been a little bit of adversity now so we keep ticking off these things under Le BR and long may continue because the the next thing it tick off is a rare away win at Portsmouth which Pro for Sunland in various divisions over the years doesn't S to happen that often um so I'm really interested to see what happens come Saturday you mentioned Wilson eor There obviously he had his introduction to the crowd on Saturday came out the stadium of L to really decent reception it has to be said I mean what can we expect from him from from what we've seen of him obviously highly rated player um initially joining on on a lawn from CM Petersburg I mean do you think he will be Opera through the center do you think we are more likely to see him coming off the left I think from from the sounds of it his versatility is one of the main reasons why Sun signed him I think I think judin B his ker so far he is a center forward first and foremost but he's definitely want to can play off the left I would say that I think it's a little bit I think all of this is a a little bit up in the air I said all summer that I thought this might be the first time where we had a relatively quiet end to the transfer window and we've now got four days out and I'm like oh it's goingon to be really busy again I'm braced for like a lot to happen at Sunland this week and I still think that you know Isidor on those players where we're not 100% sure yet where he's going to fit into the puzzle I think off the back of Clark leaving um I think if clarkk stays and isor is probably mostly going to play through the middle now that Clark's gone I think there's a little bit of a question mark I think the reality is is that from what I can gather you know we never fully know what's going on behind the scenes it looks to me like Sunland are trying to sign probably two attackers to come in now I think they just want to sign two good attackers if it's a left Winger and a striker they'll do it if it's two Strikers they'll do it do you know what I mean and we know that they love those like versatile players who can play in a lot of different positions so I can definitely see a scenario where sun and signs say two Center forwards Mendy and another and Isador players primarily off the left at the same time if they have an opportunity to you know just speak and hypothetically sign you know a premier league La player on the left wing then they might do that and is all becomes one of your three Strikers so I think his versatility is a is a key asset I think he's quick I think he likes to running behind which is definitely something that there wasn't enough of in this Sunland Squad before it's just the same you know you never know how quickly these going players are going to adapt and settle that's the sort of the the key question really and it'll be the same with eor so I think it's one of those where I'm I think that the puzzle will be a bit more complete after after the end of the window and you know as I say haven't expected it to be really quiet and thinking there wouldn't be a lot of Sword all of a sudden I'm looking at a week where I think there's actually huge amount that that could happen well we might as well properly Pile in that transfer to because there is Lords and Lords to be getting through I mean the most recent report probably being Tom Conan obviously on the books at Leicester city at the moment reports of a a 5 million pound bid from Sunderland to try and prize him away from the King Power Stadium I mean what do we know about that at this stage well listen I think that as as I said I'm I'm looking at it thinking if if the squad stays fairly similar now son will try and sign two players so we know that they're still very much in the race for Mendy um I think Tom Canon is is probably a really good example of you know sorry use the word but invert Comm is the model you know Tom Cannon's a player who would have been out of Sun's price well he was out of sunman's price range last summer when he went to a club with Premier League parachute payments um the sale of Jack Clark I think brings in potentially possibly you know into their budget now I think that he's clearly not in leicester's plans the big caveat is is that there'd be all sorts of competition for him if he does go but the the Clark fee put Sunland in a position that they could never have been in up until now I think that I think that it's unlikely that Sunland well Sunland I think would sign Canon Mendy and simit I think it's a case of all of these players have a number of options and in all of the cases they still work to be doing on fees and what have you so I think some are trying to put themselves in a strong position with a number of players and it's really just a case of seeing which one's fault I think that's the reality of it you know I'm looking at it thinking can I see Canon and simit both signing financially I Think It's tricky to see that more than anything I think both of those players are players who would come to something to play you know s isn't leaving you know a Champions League club not not to play Canon isn't going to come to a club in the championship where he's not going to play so I find it hard to see them doing both of those deals so I think you've got to put these reports into the context of where Sunland are at which is knowing that they need to strengthen upfront knowing that there's huge competition for players in these positions particularly up front which is the hardest one to do and I think it's just a case of them being in the race for a number of players and just trying to work out which which deal is going to be the right one for them so but I think the Canon one I think you know everyone will have the their only opin opinions of him a player I've not really seen enough of them to know for sure but I think it's one that hopefully will reassure people a little bit that this is the this is the project in action if you like so you have a big setback where you lose Clark well hopefully that gives you the chance to go and do a deal that you wouldn't otherwise have been able to do um so yeah it's going to be really interesting to see how that one develops but I think there sh a level of Championship competition that will exist if he does go I think means that we shouldn't get too excited just yet and I know you were saying last night James that you think in in some respects if Sunland are going to go out and spend a substantial amount of money on a stri Canon kind of makes more sense in in some respects it do it depends what what you want really obviously Alexander Mendy's got a proven track record he's played a lot of games he's scored a lot of goals albeit not in England Tom Canon might present a better option financially because he's 9 years younger so there's potential resale value so if you're going to drop you know upwards of3 million pounds or 3 million EUR anything to to 5 six seven on a player you're probably going to want to do it on a 21 year old the flip side of that is is that Tom Canon just looking at his his record here he played 21 times for Preston North End 16 times for Leicester City last season and he's scored I think 11 goals so he's not hugely experienced you know s and Tom Canon although hugely talented and highly rated would present a little bit of a risk but there's there's risk with with both players to be honest because Mendy you know he's not efl experience that can be a learning curve we've seen that and he does have more experience of football and life in general than Tom Canon but it's really hard to judge and I suppose it depends what you like and what you what you're after I do agree with Phil I think will probably bring two of those three in I think it's it's really interesting we've had the the Clark outgo now but will the be another one obviously there PR reports which I'll I'm sure you'll come on to but I think we're we're set for an interesting end to the window a sort of a flurry of business really with a with a few outgo loans expected as well but I think in terms of LE model as I've heard it dubbed which I found quite funny and a nice alternative to the model that we've all been talked about for for quite some time I do think that it's pleasing to see the sort of next stage of it um the next stage of it Advance if if if that makes sense in terms of we knew that a big sale was coming but I think a lot of suland fans can make peace with that as long as it's reinvested really and reinvested well and that's the big challenge for for Christian speaking obviously we' mentioned his name a couple of times Alexandra Mendy I mean he's certainly not quien down any is he he really is still trying to push for this move to sundland well yeah from from what I can understand I think obviously you know well Mendy's been very very clear in terms of what happened was there was obviously some kind of Gentleman's Agreement in place last summer that he would stay for another year and that then his Club wouldn't stand in his way what obviously has changed the picture completely is his takeover so I think Sunland were fairly obviously there was no deal done or anything like that but I think they were fairly fairly well along the line in terms of negotiations with the previous regime which is why obviously everybody kind of thought it was going to happen the new regime as is their right by the way because it's their Club obviously see things a bit differently and that's all that's kind of stall it so from what I understand Sun definitely still Keen to do it they would like to sign Mendy Mendy clearly still wants the move you would think it would still be in his club's interest to get the the deal D because at the moment he's not part of their plans so you know you would think that they would want to just get a return on that um and so that leads me to think that there's still a really good sh it happens this week the flip side to that is is that this Situation's obviously been going on for for the best part of a month now even a little bit longer now I think um and as far as I'm aware there is still a gap in valuation so there's absolutely no guarantees it gets done I think it has you've alluded to there the sheer strength with which Mendy has made clearly wants this move and the fact that I know Sunland is still I wouldn't say waiting because we've seen from all the players we've already discussed that they are looking at other options I think the fact that they're still open to this leads me to think that there's a good chance to gets done but you know someone is going to have to um someone is going to have to fold and I'll be honest with you from what we've seen from Sunland over the last couple years strikes me is highly unlikely to be them because they're not you know this isn't a regime that um you know quickly buckles and and releases a lot more money especially when it comes to signing Strikers so I don't know it's a really hard one to judge my gut tells me it'll probably happen because of the sh will um but you know something AR gonna let's be blunt about it something something AR going to go back to the table with another three million quid it's just not what they do so yeah it's going to be it's going to be a really really interesting few days I do find it pleasing though that sunland's eggs don't appear to be all in one basket I think the the KE for Mu transfer debarker L was very much mu and bust wasn't or appeared that way from an outside perspective I'm sure they did have other other irons in the fire but that was the only really one we we knew about and that's certainly how it felt but this time around it appears like there's a few more irons in the fire and that could only be a good thing really the caveat to that is as Phil mentioned the likes of Tom Canon is going to be intense competition for him because he's extremely highly rated if I had just come quickly back in on that point as well I think what Sun would say as well is you know whether people agree or not is I think they would argue that one of the reasons why they took that bid for Clark last week I think maybe there's a little bit of a they've changed their view on that a little bit because of what happened with Stuart last year was obviously if I remember rightly obviously Stuart went on Deadline there but I think the the deal really started to progress the day before obviously there was a few noises that whole week about Stuart go and I think it was the night before deadline day where it was actually sort of agreed and that did leave them really really short on time for a replacement and I do think part of the logic in accepting that bid for Clark um was that it did give them a full run a full week um at signning Replacements now when I say replacement as we've discussed I don't mean another left Winger like Jack Clark I mean in terms of being able to go out and get attackers and I think part of the logic was is that when they've been planning as they obviously did potentially for Clark going earlier in the summer you know they obviously were looking at a number of players and some of those have already moved and I do think the view was look if we can get some certainty on this now with Clark it gives us a chance to move before some of these other names and now let they'll go move move and I think Canon's a great example of that because of the competition we've talked about so you know I said last week that fee I would have considered keep and Clark because I feel like you should have still been able to go out and get one more Striker um and then seeing what happens next summer but I think there's definitely part of the logic I think in accepting that bid for Clark was that to gave them this this run at bringing in bringing in other players before they sort of sorted their own features and as well just quickly what I think we've got to remember is you know Eliza may end Ned two against Sheffield Wednesday and and had a a reasonable game against Burnley as well he's now a viable option for suland and I think that's that's hugely positive really that that he's got his first couple of goals for suland and hopefully he can build on that and obviously the the third name that keeps on getting mentioned again already been mentioned in this podcast couple of times but rock or simit I mean can we just sort of clear up where Sunland are in in that respect yeah well well I'm not sure in terms of where it's developed over the over the weekend the last I stood it was saw obviously people will remember I think it was Thursday wasn't it the reports well not just in AUST in various places saying that he was headed to we aside for medical now as far as I understand it that wasn't the case but he had had talks with the Sunland hierarchy so there was a lot of Truth in it but it wasn't it wasn't the full truth so the deal wasn't Advanced at all what he put Sunland obviously been in talks and as I understand that the player has had like direct um one toone talks with the Sunland hierarchy that's definitely a potential go um again he's part of that puzzle I think there is other interest in him as I said and this is just my goat it's not sort of direct sort of inside report my gut is that I don't see him and Canon for example both coming at the same time to me they are both out and out nines if you manage to land one of them it's because they're going to come in and play and they're going to sort of lead your line could be wrong on that but I just don't see don't see both of them signing could I see one of them in Mendy you know as a slightly more experienced player I probably could uh so we'll wait and see on that one so he's definitely still definitely still potentially an option but I I I don't see him and Canon both signing that just in my head that just doesn't quite quite work out and James is there anywhere else in the squad that you look at and think that Sunland could potentially look to strengthen between now and Friday's deadline I think a lot will will depend on outgoes I think if EA was to go and there's been reports of of Interest ramping up in him whether he does go or not is a different question you would hope that maybe Sunland could strengthen in that Midfield obviously they playing three midfielders at the moment a 10 an eight and a six it's a long season Sun play very fast-paced pressing style so you'd imagine you know rig job Neil would need to drop out at some point Neil's already suspended for one game obviously you've got Alan Brown hanging around which is hugely positive but having sort of four players for three positions um I don't think would work so I think think if EA went you'd need to you'd need to strengthen there um fullbacks possibly possibly won as well um obviously Huggin is is out injured sealt as well would probably deputize at fullback as well but he's going to be injured for some time you know given cirin injury record um it would be good I think to have some some cover in that position AI elisi could cover at left back as well but he's progressing at Center back um obviously Dan balard to come back in at some point as well but then you look at A's injury record and and and that is a little bit of a concern as well so perhaps just a little bit of a little bit of cover there interestingly enough you know might not have been ready for for regular first team involvement but Ole Banbridge might have been a to sort of cover that spot in the squad obviously he's G out to kill mik now to further his development so that's a positive so I just think there needs to be a bit of cover there they might look at Joe Anderson at the moment as that sort of squad filler um but he's probably going to leave so if he does go then you are sort of seriously short on numbers in that position I would suggest but yeah as we as we've mentioned on a lot of the podcast during this window so much depends on whether sundland can secure loans I mean if Zack Johnson goes out on loan might have to look at a little bit of cover there as well and um you could argue that maybe sundland slightly light on the left wing if if a Jefferson Bennett went out unnown as well as probably expected at some point so I think there's there's a lot of questions Abdul abar on the right obviously that brought peda in so wouldn't be a priority but you know he can play in multiple positions and and had a fairly decent output in terms of goals and assists last season so it all depends I think and then you're looking at the wages going the wages sort of coming back into the club that that these players would vacate and it can open up interesting opportunities and we've actually seen Sunland before spring a few surprises haven't we um where they've announced deals that nobody's really had a clue about until have happened so I certainly wouldn't rule out something like that either obviously a lot of potential outgoes between nowood and Friday we might as well sort of take a closer look at some of those diving them in a little bit more detail see James mentioned there that the PA EA appears to be a man in demand According to some reports on the continent I mean what's the latest with his situation yeah I mean it it's definitely one that I could could see happening I think it's just it's fairly obvious I think when you look at the Dynamics of the squad at the moment which is you know I mean EA was was a little bit unfortunate and obviously that he missed a big trunk preseason with a back injury which obviously put him well behind the players but even then there I think there were some signs even in L's really early preseason selections weren't there that he might be looking at Reagan and also Brown slightly ahead of EA and that's obviously just something that's continued while eka's been recovering at the moment I don't get the impression I sun and down actively looking to move eiron I think at the moment they're looking at it going we've got four Center Midfield options which is the right number you know we think they're four good good Center Midfield options and that's what we need for a long season and I think the view internally is that it's on equa to to to force his way into the team basically and it's up to him having said that you know if EA feels there an opportunity out there and Sun can bring in a decent fee the fact that he is currently their fourth choice H midfielder I think means they would do it now that's been the issue all summer and that I know it was reported that Udin ASA came in with it well they did come in with it with a kind of a formal initial offer quite early on some I think that was in July I think it was around the time some when were in Spain and sort of the word back from the club then was that it was it was an offer that was miles away that would make them even consider um consider doing anything I know the reports today from fot M fot mcaro say that some UN valume in about 7 million Euros which I think is probably about right for where he's at in terms of is he the player that we saw against Southampton against Preston on that final day of the previous season is he the player that we saw last season at times where he really struggled well he's probably somewhere in the in the middle right with a lot of potential so the thing for me is like it's definitely one I could see happening but soon I'm going to push him out the door which means that somebody has to Fork out a decent fee is the market there for him my instinct all summer is being that it's possibly not that the clubs would be interested and probably can't hit that level at someone want but that's obviously something that could change in the final few days of the window so I don't see that as an inevitability but it's definitely want to watch I don't see many I think the outgo this week is the vast majority is going to be sort of um young players going out on low and I think but eir is definitely one where there could be some movement but I don't think it's it's nailed on I think the question is whether somebody can meet the asking price and as I said it's some AR looking to move him out um so it'll be an interesting one that I mean obviously you you sort of saying that you believe that it'll probably be a lot of those less senior players who might be looking to to leave on La but interesting development at the week end when Adil asish and Abdul laar were both left out with the match Squad against Burnley um I mean where do you think Lis stands on on that at the moment yeah well I he was I mean he was really really blunt in his post press conference really and saying that there's no kind of big story really but you know the doors open for them but they'll have to work really hard and I think that ultimately it would have been slightly different if we were talking about this in two weeks time when some had signed you know eor maybe two of the strikers and you could go well somebody needs to make way in the squad but you know it felt quite telling to me that Tommy Watson was there ahead of either two of those players now I think Tommy Watson's a brilliantly talented young player by the way and I think he'll have a big feature in the game but it did feel quite telling that that he was in there and you know the fact that pava who you know at the moment hasn't actually played any football was in ahead of aishan bar I thought that was quite telling I do think aish is one where I could definitely see an exit again he had a decent preseason we've shown flashes of talent from him over the last year there is no reason why Sunland would look to sort of rush him out but I think from his perspective he isn't getting past job is he I think that's just the reality of the situation like you know job I think you know James and I talked about how highly we rate job and and I think we both felt he was set for a big season but there was an element of him coming into the campaign with you know fans kind of wondering about his place in the team and the fact that he played so much last year well that debate's over isn't it he's been outstanding in the first three games of the season so he's not going anywhere um and I think you know you've got rag who can play in that slightly more attacking Midfield role you know will the Bree consider playing two up front at times now that he's got Isidor and there's all these little different things that I think it looks like really difficult for for aish to play regularly the other aspect you know is that the reason why aish came to Sunland um was because he wasn't getting games under La at laurant so you know I'm not saying there's been like a full or anything that's absolutely not the case but you know is there something where he's just not LA's type of player maybe La just doesn't see him as a regular St starter so I think that is one one definitely watch because I think where he is at his career and the talent he's got I really don't get the vibe that he's going to be happy picking up 20 minutes here and there um so that's definitely one to watch for sure just just on that bar aish transfer story and I I'll throw this sort of philosophical question to the both of you but do you think that perhaps the listening to Le a bit more as a head coach in terms of his input because I'm I'm just thinking back to to Tony M Alex n maybe even Michael as well I just I can't see them being as blunt with an abdar and a delish it feels to me whether it's just perception or not like leb's ideas are being taken on on board a little bit more when it comes to recruitment I might be way off with that but that's just that the vibe I get a little bit Yeah I think there's possibly an element of that I think we are seeing some as I know it's an interesting one because we look at it and saying oh we saying signs of pragmatism in terms of signing alen Brown for example you know I know Z's would be well we sign D last year you know inverted Comas for Tony mry it was just that he wasn't fitting so I I think it's an interesting one Sun would definitely say no like we've always done this we've always signed players who the the head coach wanted and we've always signed experience and there definitely does seem to be a little bit more pragmatism sort of in what they're doing this summer is it possibly that there's just a bit more of an alignment with what Le Bru wants and what the club see as being the ideal kind of player and what have you um I think that's possibly true like I think it's very obvious that LE was very much all over the e Isidor sign him wasn't he in terms of he spoke about having to try and sign him at lauron last year and obviously isidor's profile is Kind of Perfect For What the club like to do so maybe it's less of a sort of deliberate thing and maybe it's just a bit more of a um alignment behind the scenes I mean I don't I don't know for sure but you know La has worked in friends for the last however many years so it strikes me that he will know a lot about Alexander Mendy for example I think that's fairly obvious isn't he you know as the top scorer in the French second division last year so I think there's possibly something to that but I don't know whether it's deliberate or whether it's just the fact that thee maybe is just a neat a fit for what they're trying to do in the playing style and the players they want to bring in um so yeah it's going to be it's going to be really interesting last few days of the window for sure to add to that as well I wonder if a little bit of it his sort of profiling communication as well with with Le being French and and koll being French and the sort of as you say aine and more is a very different profile to to a m or an Alex Neil who have you know enjoyed of control over over clubs at various points in the careers hav't there Jason yeah I mean I think it's absolutely a fair point I think you're both bang on the money with it but I do think that the other thing to point out is that when L is getting off to such a flying start surely then becomes a little bit easier for the board to sort of do you know I mean if if he struggled through those first three games maybe the board is sitting there thinking are we going in the right direction here you put in the performances that Sunland have to gain the nine points that they've already got and suddenly everything just becomes a little bit easier everybody's sort of pulling in the right direction it feels as if the club is moving in the right direction it's very early days you know it has to be reiterated but I think shely that is is is a factor that's going to massively help his cause as well um I just want to move on and and talk about Jus and benett James obviously we were we were at the under 21s on Monday night he scored a brace against middlesbor look really Lively um he's a player who's again been heavily linked with with a possible exit I mean do you think that is the right move for him at this point in his career yeah I think so I think it would be good for him to go out to an efl Club I know reading have been linked but that one doesn't look like it's it's progressed to being close to completion just yet simply because he was he was in Sunland under 21 Squad last night as you mentioned every time I watch jwy I think he's he's certainly got something is he first team ready yet probably not he does possess Pace um he's always Lively up and down the left hand side when I watch the other 21s he gets himself in good positions what was really pleasing actually when we spoke to GRE mty last night he said that against Newcastle United of 21s in the opening game of the Premier League 2 that had a word with with Bennett and they said would like you please to to basically drift in more from the left hand side and getting goal scoring positions and my's point was the pleasing thing is is that he's we've told him that and he's listened and he's done it twice against middlesbor a week later which which is hugely encouraging um you know perception counts for a lot and every time I see him he looks happy and bubbly he doesn't look like he sus or anything like that he seems you know he seems quite a driven and professional character last night he was he was staying behind taking photos for people he seemed really happy so I think he's like he's a good character he's clearly Got Talent but he's not going to play the required games he's a Costa Rica International um for a reason played at the last World Cup he was very highly rated when he came to Sun but it just hasn't worked for him and you can understand why cuz Jack clar's had that left wing spot nailed down but Bennett's still really young as well I think he's only 20 or 21 so I think a good loan to a to a league one club would do him the world of world of good the the Greek loan last season didn't really seem to work I know he got injured and he he went sort of abroad again I'd like to see him just get that sort of 12 a good 12 month load in in English football to to build him up the um it's always hard to go Al load in January isn't it and make an impact and obviously going over to another new country just come over at Sunland so soon I think was always going to be a struggle for him but I think he's actually somebody that could benefit from a little bit of clarity here's the plan for you go out on Lord for 12 months come back and we'll reassess because personally I think he's clearly got something he just needs to play games and you know Jack Clark clearly had something he just needed to play games I'm not saying that Bennett will reach the same levels as Clark we just don't know that but there's a lot of good young players in the country that that just need to play that need to be allowed to make mistakes and then you can then you can reassess and I know we've spoken about him before Phil but Louis H another player who's perhaps facing a bit of an uncertain future I mean where do you see him ending up by the end of this transfer window yeah I think it's a really tricky one I think all the noise really in the last few weeks has been the potentially Bennett was a lot closer to something happening I'm not entirely sure what the Dynamics are at reading in terms of I know they're going through a takeover and what have you AR this I'm not sure if that's a factor in it um I think that would be a great move for Bennett by the way it's like a really young team at reading really good coaching Ruben celz I think like that would be a perfect efl loan for him I think herir I think from what I can gather so far it's been a little bit harder to find the right one for him It's Tricky really I mean James talked about this earlier in the summer and that it's a dilemma with him because you know is he ready to go and play regularly in the AFL yet and maybe in the lower divisions from what we've seen at Sunland I think that might be a big ass for him but then the issue if he goes abroad on loan yes he might get minutes and it might it might suit him but then does that make him more ready to come and play at Sunland if that makes sense in the championship next year I'm not sure it does so I think that one's a really tricky dilemma I don't envy whoever's having to find the right club and make that right decision because I think realistically obviously the thi part of his game that sun really wanting to work on getting him ready for the for the sort of physical rigers really of championship football and I think there's a risk if he goes to the lower leagues that potentially you know you know he can there's a chance he gets a little bit lost so I think that's a really difficult one to do but I think it's really important he goes out because you know some did invest quite a bit of money in him last summer whether it's to come back here and play or whether it's you know next summer shaking hands and saying it hasn't quite worked out they need him to be playing in the meantime to leave them in the best possible position so I think of all the ones I think that's probably one of the trickiest ones to get right this week and potential barrage of defensive lwes as well I'm just going to throw a few names at you James and just sort of give me your your thoughts and opinions on them and perhaps where their future should lie perhaps um you know Zach Johnson not included yesterday in the under 21's game bit of a niggle there G he said ellot and ell Anderson sorry Joe Anderson did play um and then aside from that as well Timothy pmell seems to be in a position where everything's just a little bit uncertain for him at the moment I mean what do you make of that Tri over these these last few days of the transfer I think Johnson's an interesting one because I think Le clearly quite likes him he he said that during preseason evidence by the fact that he's made the bench a couple of times obviously played against Preston I think if you speak to Zack Johnson he'd like to go out on loan and definitely play I don't think he wants to sort of sit in between the under 21s and in the first team just sort of being part of the um being part of the squad in the setup he he told me after Blackpool he's greedy he wants to play games he wants to develop he wants to have a similar experience to the experience he had at dun do last season and he wants to he wants to have that at a higher level and I I admire that as well so I think that's certainly certainly what to watch the caveat to that is is that sudden do need cover at First Team level in those positions I'm not saying that Zack Johnson is you know his first team ready but he is an option that can that can fill a slot on the bench can play right back and Center back and that will certainly um we on the decision makers sort of thinking when it comes to Johnson I think penell probably expec him to leave obviously there was some interest from France that Phil wrote about yesterday it's clear isn't it really that that LE doesn't see him as part of his his first team squad at all who was the third one Joe Anderson um he obviously played last night didn't he which which you would suspect means that there's nothing close regarding joannis I think he needs to go permanently to be honest I think he's been at Sun long enough it's not quite worked I think there there is a player there that can go and have a good career in the AFL somewhere um but I'm just not sure another loan move benefits him or sundland really and I and I think permanently for him to have a home to go and play and to go and sort of build his career further I think that would be the best option for for all parties whether that can happen or not I'm not sure what sort of fee suland would would want if any I don't know um it may well be that a a decent loan move presents itself and and they go with that instead um so yeah there's just so many variables with with these transfers and a lot of them certainly wants to watch and fast moving as well I think you know we could get off this podcast now and there could be an entirely different Joe Anderson update so yeah definitely want to watch and finally Phil we'll we'll round out with just a quick word on neor triantis I mean he's another one who we've we've had reports suggesting that there is potential interest in him but obviously he was involved uh with the first team satday came off the bench when sun just need to sort of sh things up in those final moments against Burnley I mean do you see him sticking around at the stadium of like this summer I think I don't see them all going I think that would be the simplest way to put it I think right now I don't think Johnson Anderson and tranis can all go out on loan because I don't think there's enough cover um at Central defense and that's a really tricky one because some them won't want to overinvestment Deals because Yensen seal you know is going to be a big player for the future we know that and he is going to be back sometime in the season at the same time he's not close to a comeback you need to make sure you've got enough cover so my instinct at the moment is that maybe triantis would be the one who stays because I think he's the most first team ready of the three he certainly got the more senior experience so as it stands Trias could go but I think that would be a reflection of there not been a deal there for SE um and Anderson or or Johnson that the club really likes you've obviously got yeler as well and with balard coming back to Fitness there is a chance it could happen but I think it would be a little bit of a risk at the moment to let all three go um especially when you consider that there's really no right back cover for Tre here I think it's obvious pmell is not going to be involved even if Al loone doesn't happen so I think of the three I think triantis is probably the one most likely to stay um but I'd be surprised if all three went I know balard coming back to Fitness does that complicate it slightly because then that leaves you with at least say balard 09 and yelder yeah possibly it does and but I just think the shortage at right back means probably someone's got to stay um we'll see we'll see how that develops just to throw another one at you Phil do you think rusen might be W to watch just if Sunland do secure those those couple of attackers obviously Mund ahead of him e do come in it's a potential one isn't it yeah I I think that's definitely a possibility I'd be surprised if if someone cut their losses and let him go permanently at this point I think it's a bit too soon to do that I think um but Al one's definitely a good one because I think in a scenario where there's two Strikers come in and me Enders becomes you know invert comm's third choice ster and he's getting minut every now and then and playing playing a bit from the bench I think that's fine for where he is at in his development and I think the opportunity to work every day on the training pitch with lebre and of the first te players I think that's a really good sort of place for him to be I don't see how that works in anywhere shape or form for Ron you know Ron is 25 like he's a senior footballer he's an established senior footballer so he needs to play I have to say that I think rusen has done a job every time he's come off the bench this season and I think on Saturday he was really effective he really put himself about he was a new Nuance he did two players running which was very useful given that sun down to 10 so I don't think there's like it or Ren needs to go that's definitely not the case but I think the reality is if some sign two Strikers I just don't think he's going to get many if any minutes Lee in his press conference last Thursday I said he didn't see him as a Winger um at all so he's not an option in that position so if if he's the fourth choice Striker he's potentially not going to get any minutes and I just doesn't work for Sunland because his value just depreciates in that scenario and a certainly doesn't wear for Ren as a 25y old you know footballer with a lot of senior appearances to his name so yeah I think that is definitely want to watch um in the L stages of the window or something and get the business done that they want to do again that formula that I spoke to about at the more at the very start of the podcast is the relevant one if someone say a huge Winger option they might go for that and that mean might mean they only bring one stri in in which case you you know you probably W keep ring but I think that's a really good point I think that's a massive sort of really interesting one to watch okay I think that's probably all we've got time for this week Lads um join us again next week on the raw podcast in the meantime keep up to date with all of the latest Sun News on the Sunland
