point of view an incredibly inspiring character on her own but so and know complicated as well as women can be sometimes I include myself in uh first in line so but that was the thing it's like once you asked me like what it was like to play her what were the things but when I sat there and I met Judy and we talked on Zoom first for a couple of hours and then we met in person a few times and we met with Anthony as well and it was funny I know how difficult this was for them in a way as much as they wanted to tell the story I think when I got with him I said listen the thing that's going to make this so incredibly moving and inspiring is the difficult part so if whatever you can share with me you know I wanted to make them feel safe and they could trust me and that we would do the right things uh to tell the story the right way without doing things that would you know not feel good to them so um they were very open with me and that really helped us to you know help me for sure to kind of drop in as we say to who she was and I realized that we had a lot of things in common um as you know a lot of women and a lot of people a lot of men have been through you know difficult relationships and and and what that's like and and what that really feels like on a day-to-day basis when you have to live that um and uh it was it was an honor and a pleasure to play because when you think about where she started at 16 years old having this baby and and you know he's born without a leg and you just kind of sitting know there's so many things and then to see the last credit crawl and the PHD and running the damn School yeah you know Judy Robles is quite an amazing person she had a you know a child very young at 16 years old and um they kind of grew up together and being able to talk to her and really delve into her experience and then have a baby born who doesn't have a leg and she didn't understand why and she felt like it was her fault and she felt so so many things and so I really got to talk to her about like how she felt about being a mom being you know a person who was really kind of lost and in bad relationships and and had to kind of figure herself out while she was raising these five kids and then to see what her story is at the end of the movie uh and that she has a PHD you know but her son inspired her to do that because she supported her son it was just it's a beautiful kind of exchange right of love and selflessness that they both had um and she gave me so many little nuggets for me to hold on through throughout all the scenes and even on that last day that you're talking about I went to her and I I said to you I said we have to get them hugging at the end right and I was like I want to come through the the crowd and I want to run to him and I want to hug him cuz that famous picture that I had in my trailer of the two of them which is at the end of the movie now now where she's like on the day that he won and I said what did you say to him and what did he say to you well I want to hug him I want to and uh she just said I told him I said you did it you did it and he said we did it and to me that was their whole relationship and it was so beautiful and it was it was such a moving thing um to be able to bring that to life I almost wish you would have held on that a little longer not that I should tell you how to end this is
