live breaking news today out of Pittsburgh Adam shef's here what can you tell us Adam Laura the Pittsburgh Steelers have named Russell Wilson as their starting quarterback for the opening game against the Atlanta Falcons not a surprise this is what most people thought Mike tomin had said all along Russell Wilson was in the pole position and now pole position is cross the finish line at least for the opening game and Russell Wilson not Justin Fields will be starting at Atlanta against the Falcons yeah we're so glad you're with us today on NFL live thanks for joining us Adams here all show Lewis rck and Booger McFarland as well let's get right to Mike tomlin's explanation on his decision to name Wilson the starter today it was a difficult decision but not difficult in a negative way to be quite honest with you it was difficult in a positive way the decision was difficult because of what they're capable of doing um decision was difficult because of how they have conducted themselves as opposed to the things that they fall short in in terms of capabilities or negative conduct obviously Russ's resume is a unique one in terms of length and success and um you know that tends to play a factor in the decision- making but not from a decisionmaking perspective it's just you know fruit of his labor um you know he's seen a lot and done a lot and I think it was reflected in the way he he played and conducted himself well explained as you would expect we now welcome in our Steelers reporter Brooke prior you've been there for all of training camp Brook they've now made the decision what's the reaction been there today you know this is largely what everyone in the locker room expected everyone who has been been around the team expected Mike Tomlin said he made the decision today brought both quarterbacks in at the same time for a meeting in his office and that's when he gave them the news that Russell Wilson would be qb1 and he said they handled it like professionals and even though Mike Tomlin Waits The inst Stadium work more than he waits maybe practice work he said that Russell Wilson won the job because he was comfortable with what he saw out of him in practice he said that he's had these intense practices to make it more of a a simulation a game likee atmosphere so there would be little left to speculation although he did say he's happy to let us speculate about how much we may be seeing Justin Fields still on the field despite not being the starting quarterback he said that Fields Mobility is something the Steelers want to weaponize and that we could see him in some packages because they can't afford to let that stay on the bench that's going to be fascinating Brooke to see how they use him if they use him when if he comes on the field aren't defenses going to know what he might do either way we'll keep an eye on it thanks so much to Brook prior for joining us here on NFL live all right lisis so you heard the reasoning there from Mike Tomlin you've had a lot to say about this before we knew the decision was happening you agree with Russ giving the Steelers the best chance to win no not necessarily I don't but look Mike tomman has a lot more information at his disposal than I do he was with these guys every single day and although he says he tends to wait the stadium work much more heavily than he does the practice work he's quite honestly made his decision based on the opposite because Russ didn't have a whole lot of Stadium work but he did have a lot of practice work and he has an extensive resume that Mike Tomlin also alluded to so to me it sounds like absent Justin Fields coming out and being Patrick Mahomes he wasn't winning this job anyway way it was really all geared towards Russell has to do something dramatic in order to lose it and then Justin has to do something dramatic in order to win it outright come week one now now that we've got that out of the way and we can get through week one and and Russ is the starter and maybe Justin has some packages and what have you the question to me Still Remains how long does he stay to starter what does Russ actually have left he can know the offense UPS up and down left and right as much as he wants is he a playmaker though can he move the ball down the field and put them in the end zone can he make plays out of structure when it breaks down and Arthur doesn't have the absolute perfect call that being Arthur Smith the offensive coordinator can he do those kinds of things cuz remember now it's not like they're playing in the bucksmont league High School Division which is the league I played in he's playing in the AFC North which is one of the toughest divisions yeah it was okay back in the day he's playing in one of the toughest divisions in all football against some defenses that are for ferocious so he better be able to make some plays and not just know the Playbook so that to me I think is what all of us should be watching as we move through the first quarter of the Season you know leis I will agree with you that this decision was almost premeditated I I think when you know Mike Tomlin came out and says that Russell is in Pole Position essentially what he was saying is Russell is gonna be my starting quarterback unless Justin Fields comes in and just Wows me now here's what I'll disagree with you I think Russell Wilson gives him the best opportunity to win because ultimately you have to evalu this both of them have been sketching from the pocket as far as being able to consistently throw the football down the field so here's what you're weighing you're weighing the ability of Justin fields to use his legs and athletic system to make plays versus Russ's experience and ability not to turn the football over and allow this Pittsburgh team to thrive with their defense let's also not forget they're probably going to start two maybe even three rookies depending on the health on the offensive line that means you got to have a quarterback that can get the young guys lined up from a protection standpoint that can make sure everybody knows where they're going and who can do that better than a veteran quarterback so I truly understand the upside of Justin Fields I get it everybody is wild with his ability to run around with his legs so was Chicago so much that they got rid of him you have to be able to not turn the football over move the offense up and down the field and allow your team to play complimentary football and I think when you total all of that up Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator AR Smith they're basically saying this Russell Wilson and his experience give our team the best chance from an offensive standpoint to play complimentary football are we going to miss some of those Splash plays that improvisational stuff that Justin Fields can do sure but can we win and win at a more consistent level with Russell Wilson I tend to agree with the decision that Mike Tomlin and Arthur Smith have made so look to me it sounds like what you're saying is this that Pittsburgh has so many weapons and such a dominant offensive line that all Russ needs to do is just be a point guard and just kind of like hand it off to nii throw it out on the perimeter uh you know to George Pickins get it to Pat FR M and he doesn't really look I I I just don't I don't see it like this Russ can't be just a game manager in this offense I don't think they're just that I don't well what I'm saying is this I don't think he's that that this offense is that dominant to where Russ cannot or rather can get away with not being a playmaker and I'm not saying we're not talking about just splash plays off schedule four or five second plays where he's running around and trying to create something you know like he used to back in his days in Seattle I'm not talking about that I'm just saying about this okay can he get the ball out of his hands quickly and still be able to push it down the field put it where it needs to be put and do it on a consistent basis I don't we'll see if he can do that I don't have the most faith in that and that's where I'm saying now Jus Fields look he has shown steady progression throughout this off season through training camp through the prese season games and from by all accounts from what I know out there in Pittsburgh he's continuing to still make very you know marked advancements in terms of his comfort in this offense I just don't think this is going to last very long I think he's going to be in there sooner than rather than later and this may not last very long but I think today Lewis I trust Russell Wilson and his experience and his ability yeah sometimes a sack is better than turning the football over I I get that and so right now today I trust Russell Wilson his ability to lead this offense to play complimentary football more than I do Justin fields and I'm willing to sacrifice some of that athleticism and those Splash plays when it's third and seven he can take out of the pocket and give me 10 yards and move the first down I'm willing to sacrifice that knowing that my defense will be pretty good yeah you don't have a a wealth of Playmakers like you're talking about on the offensive side of the football but you know what you can punt the football and play to this defense we're not asking you to score 40 but you can't turn the football over and put this defense and disadvantageous situations and do you hear this debate Laura you hear this you hear what's going on right now we got Lewis Pro Justin fields we got booger Pro Russell Wilson this isn't going to let up in Russell unless Russell Wilson plays really well and they keep winning the moment that that doesn't happen this kind of debate is going to keep going on and on and on it's interesting too because if you look at the schedule guys seven of the Steelers first nine opponents finished under 500 in 2023 nice way to start right but they finished the season with all six division games in their final eight games games along with playing the Eagles and Chiefs not quite a walk in the park maybe they do make a change around that time we'll have to see all right now to a developing story in Cincinnati star wide out Jamar Chase showed up in Street close for today's practice did not participate this comes you see him right there one day after head coach Zack Taylor said Chase would practice all week after the star wide receiver practice on both Sunday and Monday so what's going on here okay he's still waiting for the deal of course our Bengals reporter Ben baby added this just moments ago he said Zach Taylor says wide receiver Jamar Chase is day today added that Taylor probably quote put his foot in his mouth when speaking yesterday about Chase's availability Adam what more can you add well Laura I think that the negotiations between these two sides are slowo right now and I think Zack Taylor was enthused about the fact that Jamar Chase have been back participating in practice but those have only been walk through practices when he's practice it was all individual drills not fullon practice and this is a situation that has bared watching all trending camp and continues to Bear watching and you could tell today it was almost as if Jamar Chase was trying to replace the narrative that Zack Taylor used yesterday in fact Zack Taylor yesterday was very confident and optimistic that Jamar Chase would be practicing today that he would be playing in week one and Jamar Chase almost made a statement of his own by showing up and not practicing today as as if to say this narrative is not going to be dictated entirely by the Cincinnati Bengals and clearly there still is an issue unless Jamar Chase gets paid yeah you can just tell you know well if you read between the lines you can just tell that this young man is very frustrated very frustrated he doesn't he knows that he doesn't have a whole lot of options here other than to just do exactly what he did which was look I don't have any leverage the only leverage you know I I don't have a Dak Prescott type of situation where I'm setting up for free agency next year where I could just walk and leave out of here you know I'm on a one-year deal he he really the only thing he can do is sit out and withhold services and you just know that anybody who right now kind of like puts it puts it out there in any way shape or form that this guy has no other choice but to play he's going to push back against that and this this sounds like that like he goes like hey you know what you think I'm going to practice okay watch this I'm not practicing I'm going to go out here in my street cloes I'm going to watch you guys although we probably it's probably a safe bet that you know you wind up seeing him week one and you wind up seeing him play it's got to be extremely extremely frustrating for someone who's been so productive and they know that they need in order to get to where they want to get to and Louis I see it the exact same way you do like it's very frustrating he's a top five wide receiver maybe top three wide receiver in the game of football he's gonna play for a million bucks and he knows that he's worth way more than that and on top of that you've seen the wide receiver mark can explode CD lamb just got 136 M over four years but understand this with this collective bargaining agreement he's basically tied to Cincinnati for two more years and we know what Mike Brown and how should I say how Mike Brown decides to negotiate deals so I think he's stuck now the relationship between burrow and Chase is such that chase is not going to want to miss opening day with his partner because he's going to want to be out there but even if he does at at a certain point he's got to come in to get and a crude season so like he really has no choice but to come and play I Feel for him but this is not a decision that was made based on Jamar chase this was a collectively bargained issue the team that drafts you in the first round has a four-year deal and a chance for a fifth year option and then they can franchise you two more years so he has zero leverage whatsoever but to figure out a way to go to Mike Brown and say Hey listen are you going to do the right thing I'll come out here I'll show up I may not give you my best but if you will do the right thing for me okay T Higgins is not going to be here most likely Tyler Bo is already gone everyone knows I am your why receiver Mike Brown do the right thing that's all he's asking and he's pleading and he's doing that through the media he's doing that he's doing it every way he can without ever saying a word I just wonder if Mike Brown will listen because this young man is crying out to Mike Brown to do the right thing and Mike Brown is saying hey this is how we do business in Cincinnati we're not doing anything different and he's going to test this young man's resolve I don't think it's right but it's what the collective bargaining collective bargaining agreement says that he can do B you said 136 M's right there's a lot of M&M's going around right now at the wide receiver position and you say he's got no leverage I would disagree Jamar Chase can simply say my back's bothering me I don't think I can play that week one my hamstring's tight I don't think I can play week one and the Bengals will get that message if that's what he decides he wants to do so he has leverage he doesn't have as much leverage as he'd like to have due to the collective bargain agreement having two years left in the contract but nobody wants a sit How's that gonna go over though Shifty H H how is that gonna go over if he starts talking about his hamstring or his back come like players in the locker room understand the business you don't have to lie in order to K with players understand the business players also understand to your point that he scheduled to make $1 million in base salary this year he had a $3.8 million roster bonus so he's gonna make $4.8 million so he's gonna step out there right now when all those M are out there and risk that like I again has he been willing to do that this summer has he been willing to do it so far have we seen him practice once have we seen him do anything other than a walk through only no you're right look the only leverage the only leverage he has which we have already said is to withhold his services and figure out a way to continue pushing this out and pushing this out and pushing this out now understand look the wide receiver room in Cincinnati is pretty darn strong they've drafted pretty well okay Jermaine Burton has looked pretty good Andre oshas looks pretty good Charlie Jones is pretty good T Higgins is pretty good they've got a fleet of tight ends also and they've got a quarterback who's pretty darn good so look I mean for cincin this is this is this is going to be the epitome this is right here this is the very definition of the cat and mouse game that teams and players are going to play with each other play with one another when the team feels as though they have the leverage and the player only has one course of action I'm going to hold out who's going to Blink first you know what his Leverage is I believe that in week two the Cincinnati Bengals play the Kansas City Chiefs that's his leverage Circle that one for sure uh either way I think Bo brought up an important Point too about the relationship with burrow we're just getting started on NFL Live no deal with the New York Jets and there hasn't been a lot of progress between the two sides we'll continue to see if they can get a deal done but there hasn't been a lot of hope he hasn't reported he's racked up fines close to $2 million so far that are un forgivable he has requested a trade and the Jets haven't acted on that at this time just as there's a stand still there there's also one in San Francisco between the 49ers and Brandon aou he is on their 53 man roster he is taking up a roster spot despite the fact that he hasn't been practicing now here's the key part they're practicing today Jamar Chase didn't practice in Cincinnati let's see if Brandon iuk is practicing out in San Francisco and just like Brandon iuk hasn't been a practice Williams hasn't even been in the building he continues to hold out seeking a new contract has 3 years and 75 million on a contract left with no guaranteed money remaining clearly he would like some of that money guaranteed doesn't have it and because he doesn't have it he's not showing up and doesn't intend to show up until that deal is adjusted so important to see if they can get that done if the worst case scenario happens and both of those players Miss time it could be a disaster for San Francisco both auk and Williams joined the 49ers in 2020 auk was drafted in the first round and Williams was acquired via trade with Washington since then the pair have both been off the field for 303 snaps those plays didn't go well for the offense San Fran averaged over two fewer yards per play and the team's qbr was cut in half just shows their importance to this offense B in addition to Williams and iuk being absent the 49ers are also dealing with some injuries we mentioned Dr Greenlaw on pup both Ricky peaw and Christian mcaffrey have been injured during Camp those may be not as concerning but how worried are you about a slow start in San Francisco well I'm not necessarily worried about a slow start even though I think a slow start may happen like this league is a league that's built on players and all the players that you named frent Williams IU green law I know Christian mcaffrey had a calf during training camp they got a lot of guys that they're counting on and those guys either aren't there or nicked up but here's the thing it's a 17 Game season so if they come out of the gate slow I'm not concerned because of how this team is built Because of Who the head coach is and how they are always there at the end of the season but there is no doubt about it you just don't replace production and the playmaking ability of some of the guys that aren't going to be there or aren't there right now and just say that everything is going to be status quo but here's what it does we all have talked about Brock pie and the contract that could be coming next off season and so now the 49ers get an opportunity to see can Brock P who has been Stellar every step of the way so far can Brock P carry the load like some of the other Elite quarterbacks in the National Football League they're talking about paying Brock py upwards of 5560 million a year Well when you make that much money you got to be able to make the people around you better so can Brock py do that if he is without some of these pieces early in this season I think this is a great limit test for the 49ers yeah I think I I I hear your point about Brock you know it'll be it'll shine a light on him if he's not if the team is not working at full strength uh obviously and that's an individual situation for him that can turn into a team situation if things aren't really going well which look I would be I would be mildly worried about especially on the offensive side where we know that that side of the ball is really predicated on timing and Rhythm and repetition throughout the offseason through training camp and in the early part of the Season which many teams treat like another training camp because of how few games players play in the preseason it's the second thing I'd be worried about especially in when you're talking about wide receivers and skill position players like Christian like Brandon iuk is those guys are always susceptible to soft tissue injuries when they haven't been playing football I'm sure they I'm sure Brandon iuk has been play been training his rear end off those guys always have hamstring issues when you aren't playing football and aren't executing those kinds of moves that's the thing that would worry me the most on top of the things that you alluded to booger and let me recount the 49ers summer Christian mcaffry hasn't practiced Cal strain Trent Williams hold out not there Brandon iuk situation stuck in the mud and Christian McCaffrey's backup running back Elijah Mitchell out for the year with an injury put him on IR so there are a lot of things that this team already has had to overcome and it hasn't even played its first game against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football in 12 days you know what's funny though um even with all the turmoil the analytics still like them the 49ers have a 16% chance to win the Super Bowl not just make it there but win the Super Bowl according to ESPN analytics that's the highest in the league by the way all right Adam just said it but Monday Night Football is coming your way the 49ers and Jets starting the season off on the Monday night package that of course uh part of the NFL kickoff weekend presented by YouTube TV game time at 8 Eastern on ESPN ABC ESPN Deportes ESPN plus Payton and Eli are back on ESPN 2 and ESPN plus coverage begins with NFL live we're going to come your way live from Levi Stadium we're followed by Monday night count countdown that is coming up in just 12 days all right next CD lamb and the Cowboys they got the deal done so they're back in practice but has Dallas surrounded Dak Prescot with enough Talent quarterback Russell Wilson is the man in Pittsburgh to the surprise of almost nobody right now Laura he's going to start against the Atlanta Falcons with Justin Fields backing him up Mike tomin informed both quarterbacks of his decision today that Russell has taken the lead and Russell Wilson will start and in week two they play the Denver Broncos Russell Wilson's old while one day after saying that he expected Jamar Chase to practice today Jamar Chase didn't practice today unlike what Zack Taylor expected and so clearly this situation is not as smooth and resolved as people thought it continues to go on as the regular season gets closer and closer and the Rams Head Coach Shawn mcfay said yesterday that his starting running back Kiren Williams will be the punt returner this season just as he did to open last season there going to use Kiren Williams in this role and they believe that by having Michigan rookie running back Blake corm they can use corm they can use Kiran and they could afford to put Kiren Williams back there returning hunts meanwhile the Dallas Cowboys signed former Jets Ravens running back Vikings running back dvin cook to their practice squad with the intent that eventually they'll promote him to their active roster he will complement running backs such as Ezekiel Elliott Rico dle have a chance to make a mark in Dallas he stayed in shape he believes he's in shape and we'll see what kind of Mark Dalvin cook can make with the Dallas Cowboys Laura interesting dep speaking of the Cowboys the news you broke earlier this week Adam was a CD land deal four years $136 million that's where we focus now lamb back at practice you see him out there getting ready for week one against the Browns and CD lamb has been on the field for 95% of Dak Prescott's pass attempts in the last two seasons including the playoffs Prescott's total QB R drops to 42 in that small sample size without lamb in the game compared to 72 30 point difference when he's on the field so Jerry Jones is actually still speaking to the media this is happening right now we're bringing you some of what he just said with CD being resolved now how would you characterize your negotiations with Dak Prescott heading into the regular season opener uh that hasn't changed so U we're U uh continuing to U uh uh first of all all of us focus on what's coming up here in the next 10 days two weeks opening game and U that takes priority over anything that's an area that is tricky it's uh easy for me to say uh I I seem to have my better times when uh I'm dealing frankly in bad times which are incentive areas to get out of the the ditch so to speak and so it's easy to say well boy when you when you don't know what's coming around in the corner at the end of the week or end of the month or end of the year then you give it your best I don't want to do that I I don't want to do that it's usually a combination of what's in the best interest of the whole in our case the Dallas Cowboys and what is uh needed to do to make a decision on the land and the incentive uh demand in the contract and so it's somewhere in between you've got to obviously look at the well-being of the team and the uh the goals of the team uh but uh where I can uh I've always uh in any area uh put uh uh uh my associates my running mate in the case of a player players coaches anytime that I can stize them more I do that I believe in the carrot well I'm trying to make heads and tail all man what did somebody please tell me what Jerry said because I have no idea what is he do okay well help us the biggest thing that he said there was status quo on the Dak Prescott negotiation status quo right so they're not any closer today and his focus seems to be on getting ready for the regular season open against the Cleveland Browns we'll see if the Dallas Cowboys can step forward and try to make any progress with Dak Prescott who's entering the last year of a contract in which the Dallas Cowboys cannot place any sort of tag on him and he will be allowed to hit the free agent Market if he's not resigned before then so Jerry Jones has had a big week signing CD lamb getting dvin cook done uh getting some deals done for this Dallas franchise but the fact of the matter is daak still is out there unsigned and Jerry waxon poetic about it right it was poetic that was something else one of the things he waxed poetic about yesterday BG or earlier today he said this about Dak he said my thoughts sitting right here is we'll have Dak as a Cowboys quarterback in 2025 and Beyond I'm looking at having less Supporting Cast around him than he's had at any time in his career he's going to have to make up for that he's going to have to make up for that and some because we haven't gotten to the games we want to be playing in what do you think about Jerry kind of putting all that on Dack saying look we may not have the best supporting Casper dak's gonna have to make the best of it well Jerry said the obvious out loud if you think about it I mean Kansas City couldn't afford Tyreek Hill uh and with everything that Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones so they had to get rid of Tyreek Hill and reload and guess what Patrick Mahomes made them better and they went on they won two Super Bowls so he's basically saying what we already know when your quarterback is going to take up 17 18 19% of the cap and he's going to make 55 to $60 million he's got to make the players around him better better so I have zero problem with Jerry saying the the obvious out loud some people may may do and say well you can't KN surround your franchise quarterback well guess what tell the franchise quarterback he shouldn't be making all the money at some point you can't make all the money and do less work he's got to do more work when you make more money you have to do more work that's the Great American that's that's that's what happens in most places in America the guy that makes all the money has to make the important decisions and do the toughest and hardest and most important work and going to be no different when Dak Prescott if Jerry Jones is basically going to say that Dak is going to be there 2025 and beond beyond that means he's prepared to pay dax's price and it's probably in in my opinion it should be no less than 60 million a year when you're making 60 million a year you better tote some more water than the guy that's making five million is to yeah look I mean we understand that with you know with great earnings comes great responsibility a tremendous it's a lot amount of uh impact that you are expected then to have on everyone else's performance I mean that that's that's no big deal I mean I think what I think with Jerry what he's saying is this look kind of some of the things that we've been talking about he's look I think he's looking around and he's going okay let's see here I've I paid CD the offensive Line's coming together pretty well which has been which was a question mark I mean their rookie Tyler gon has looked fantastic Tyler Smith has looked fantastic the left side of the offensive line looks solid we just added dvin cook will be able to put together a competitive uh group of running backs so I think offensively we'll be okay on the defensive side we've added some pieces at linebacker we got to make sure the secondary is shorted up and we can cover there I think we'll be able to rush the passer I'm going to take care of Micah so I think look I think right now he's saying now if I don't have Dak what is my next best alternative what is it even if I have you know all this cap space what am I going to do with what what am I GNA do what am I gonna do with CD lamb if I don't have somebody to throw him the football yeah why did I just pay him all the money I just paid him then why didn't I trade him get a bunch of draft picks reset this whole thing Jerry doesn't want to reset he doesn't have time to reset he he sees the runting on he does he's not going to own this football team forever he's not going to reset it right now he's he knows what position he's in he may not like it but he's accepting it which is I gotta pay it I've got to pay it he would just like I'm sure in his own mind to feel better about say it meaning Dak has one of those Seasons where he takes him into the postseason he elevates the team and then he would probably go ahead he would exactly and he would hand in the check and be like here just write in your price WR in your price just goad you keep saying he's got to pay it but guess what it takes two to tango dak's got to take it too and Dak has to be will to take it knowing that he's going to hit the free agent Market or at least he scheduled to but Adam Adam you know this we all we all can be bought we all can be bought why does Adam know that spoken spoken like a true entrepreneur Louis rck I love it you know what we're I hate to leave it there Hing story in Cincinnati you see Jamar Chase not practicing today after we thought he was going to practice all week Adam what's the latest there well Zack Taylor after practice today said that Jamar Chase in his words is quote unquote day to day and Taylor admitted he quote unquote spoke to quickly yesterday saying that Jamar Chase would be playing in week one that he'd be back at practice today that he's looking forward to getting him back hopefully at some point soon so again this is one of those fluid situations where Jamar Chase has gone through a couple of walkthrough practices has yet to participate in an 11 on 11 drill still has been talking to the Bengal about a contract my understanding is those talks have been in slow motion recently and clearly jar Chase was not happy with either what Zack Taylor said yesterday or the state of the negotiations maybe a little bit of both but either way he was not practicing today and he still has not taken part in a fullscale practice all summer long so this is twofold for me guys this is the fact that he wants a contract and if and when he gets that contract he's probably saying if Justin Jefferson's at 35 Cid's at 34 don't I have to take it to the next level and get 36 37 so this is really twofold if you're Mike Brown you have to decide I'm going to give a player that I have two years of control a new contract and am I going to set the market where Jamar Chase probably wants the market to be set which is at $36 million a year which is the highest paid nine quarterback in NFL history so this isn't just about a new deal as we go a little deeper there is another layer are they going to make him the highest paid nine quarterback in NFL history I personally don't think so guys uh I've been around this league a long time we watched the Cincinnati Bengals do a lot of things I don't think he's going to get a deal and I think Mike Brown is just stubborn enough from everything I've heard he's just stubborn enough to let this drag out the only way I think that may change is if there can be some internal pressure from some players or people that Mike Brown trust other than that I just don't see a way this gets done a couple things BG number one Jamar chase the last time he did speak last season was saying that he did want to make and thought he deserved what Justin Jefferson would make well Justin Jefferson got $35 million a year so clearly Jamar Chase thinks that he's worth every bit of what his college former college teammate has been paid but the other part of this to the Bengals side is that chase has two years left on his deal whereas those other players that have gotten paid here have had one year left and I can't imagine that the Bengals want to Vault to the front of the line and reward a player who has two years left on his contract by making him the the highest paid player at his position when he still has two years left on his deal this year and the fifth year option so that would be their argument Chase's argument would be that he deserves to be amongst the highest paid wide receivers in the and we'll let them figure out what's right and what's wrong and what should and shouldn't go down here you know leis I've never been on the business side of this you have when you try from a GM perspective and maybe even the owner perspective decide if it's worth doing something like this the business side says well he's got the two years left why would we go ahead and pay somebody but Jamar Chase has shown up when he hasn't had consistency all the time at the quarterback position obviously Joe burrow when he's out there this offense hums on on all cylinders but when he's not Jamar Chase has been consistent he's been the one they could rely on shouldn't that count for something here in addition to the talent yeah look it and and it and it does it it does but look there there's a couple other you know there's there's numerous things that obviously Cincinnati is trying to balance and it's not just the salary cap it's their own cash flow situation there in Cincinnati because now not only are you just talking about a huge jump up with when you have two more years of quote unquote control over the player you're talking about you know what what is the payout going to look like in terms of the cash that this young man is going to command you know right now and is that something that's in the books is that something that they really have already budgeted for cuz not every team has as deep of pockets as every other team not every team has the ability like you know let's let's just say down in Miami where Steven Ross May or you know maybe in Carolina with Mr terer could just go ahead and hand out that kind of money to someone when they haven't budgeted for that now I know that's not the player's problem my problem is not whe whether or not you have budgeted on the books for what I'm asking for I'm just controlling what I can control but yeah it is a tough Balancing Act it really is and you know on top of it I can tell you this too Cincinnati's drafted pretty darn well they have they have loaded up at the wide receiver position so I am sure internally they're thinking can we get by if this guy has a protracted hold out are we fore fore fore spe fore spee speech fore spee for for Fore fore foree spee [Music]
