202: Funny Old Buck, The Anti-Kelce Brothers, Are Emus Real? Is Captain Kirk?

[Music] call [Music] her hey everybody old buck Dave back again Believe It or Not episode 202 and you know who's with me old Buck Dale that would be OB Buck Dale how you doing buddy you're looking marvelous today by the way you're looking extra marvelous appreciate that what's that what's that in your hand what's that in your finger there oh that's my El Gordo tattis scan oh El Gordo tattis scan oh oh yeah hey you know I scored a box of these things how'd you do that ah you know I was working on some projects it involved the some high ladders and some rope and tree limbs and a bunch of things and it really merited uh I mean it had danger written all over it with um you know at our age and I said hey I'm not going to fix this for you folks for no for no cheap uh robusto I want the El gordos I saidy I think these things are close to $9 a piece and they gave me a whole box for that with that job so you're going to report your taxes on that right I got 20 weeks 20 weeks of P pure uh smoking Bliss oh good otherwise in my world uh I want to thank you for that uh that little video you sent me I think we should mention that that's buckworth we should mention that yeah uh before we do that I want to we we did get a couple Letters From Afar Believe It or Not uh several people thought we were actually quitting at 200 and so now we're on 202 we just we're just going to string them out a little further so we hope all of you that uh well you have to be you have to download this to here when I'm saying I guess but yeah we we we lost a few listeners because I think they thought we were going away but we really weren't it's sort of a a subtle GoFundMe GoFundMe project yeah we had a we had a one listener comment on the three bonus tracks that I played that I put in at the end of the uh uh end of the show notes to try to reflect the short story that we that we read and talked about and uh uh so the one I think it's Sweet Little Lies by Fleetwood Mack was seems to be the favorite of the three I was I was shocked I was surprised by that but that's that's the favorite so so all good stuff all good stuff so let's let's talk about Andy Huggin who who we recently discovered and that's the the comedian that's the comedian yeah you said that one of our one of our listeners sent that to you didn't he one of our loyal listeners sent me a video of uh this Andy Huggins who is he's in his 70s he's a comedian I think he said 74 74 okay he doesn't look as good as we do though I gotta say I think we look better I thought he was older I actually thought he was old too I thought I thought he was adish but anyway but he was really funny we're going to put a uh we're going to put a link in the show notes to Andy uh do you want to uh this is old Buck humor this is really old Buck this old Buck humor yeah yeah yeah I started playing that and I started laughing and then uh and then my wife said what are you laughing at and we started looking at it together and she started laughing at him too I mean very very creative stuff for our age very creative stuff that's the portion about the colonos it was so true it was all so true yeah that was great if you if anybody anybody links on that and listens to him that's my sentiments exactly yeah he says one of the great things about D in my ages he says you don't have to deal with the parents stuff like that or or oh I don't want to give it away I'm not going you give it away go ahead well there was one joke there that he said uh you know that men live to be a certain age and women lived a certain quite a bit longer he said so I think I'm going to transition that that thought really became funny to me like it would make a difference you know might make sense yeah anyway so all the old all anybody out there uh get a even see one another that's actually good looking good to look to you know while we're talking um I was we were going to be talking over some coffee the other day we had a plan for that and then uh and that didn't work out but tell you oh this is my phone do back yeah do do the do the I think it's the tire story yeah it's so I had an issue with one of my tires possibly leaking I made an appointment to go into the dealership dealership checked it out and said he we really can't find a leak and I said well okay I had you it had it had dropped a lot of pressure immediately but then when I refilled it it didn't drop anymore so I guess I wasn't I don't know what went on but anyway that's not really the story the story is I said well we'll we'll top it up and uh keep an eye on the pressure and let us know so I'm going up to your place so I let me give it let me add some color to that it's it's it's really really dark really really dark th rush hour traffic traff hear the thunder in the distance it's ominous and yet we're going to meet we were we were we're going to run aoo for you know a little bit of a chat and everything and I get up to the the street cross streets so I call you so I'm I'm on the uh on the speaker phone on the car speaker phone talking to you and while this is while we're talking my phone rings and I thought how can my phone be ringing I'm talking to so I reached down into uh into the well where I always keep my phone picked it up like yeah it's ringing I answered it and it was the guy from the garage and he said you've got my mechanic's phone in your car he says in fact you're talking on it right now I said what I looked at it it's like his he had the same kind of phone I did same kind of case and he put it in the in the in the well where I always put mine and like oh yeah you're right so I called you I said I'm going to be a little bit longer I got to go back to the dealership and well at that point we said there was no way that you were going to make that turn again because it was quite a bit of distance between the two of us at the time but I you know you think you can predict everything like hey I'm caught in traffic or something so I've got to go back and return the phone I said only only a couple of two old bucks that stuff happened too so yeah we didn't get a chance to speak uh face to face yesterday but we're talking now hey I want to mention um now you say I I said Kelsey but you say it's kaliss did you see that story about those I said it's Kalise you no good the the Kelsey Brothers they're Kelsey AKA kiss Brothers right a AKA kiss Brothers All right well I know there's a big debate over well what's the story about tell let everybody else know what the big story is I mean they they started a podcast of course we we had our P podcast long before that yes so much longer and they started a podcast and within a matter of months I suppose or uh you know they got a few endorsements and all of a sudden they're they've got this uh really big podcast going on and I said huh you know I said if maybe if one of the two of us had become professional football players some point you talk about it you talk about the planets were aligned for those guys yeah I'm happy for them yeah they started this podcast called New Heights check back they started it in 2022 it is now I think they said last quarter it was the fourth largest down fourth largest podcast in the United States they have a couple million downloads which is close to ours it's only a couple ahead of ours yeah but I I thought that I mean I I thought the circumstances that allowed that meteoric rise to uh you know podcast them was interesting uh but it's like we could probably talk about what's happening in the uh you know Kansas City Chief's locker room like you know I saw what's his name he he throwing pretty nice ball today you know David You Know M Mahomes is looking pretty good and so and so's got a bad knee or something well you know they're only getting a hundred million do for a three-year deal with Amazon ah in in a way I feel bad for because now it's like a full-time job hey but I often think if you're a professional if you're a professional um athlete and all of a sudden these endorsements I I I always felt that happened to Baker Mayfield when he started doing commercials it wasn't long after that he wasn't playing football well and um I just watched uh Carlos alarz in the US Open did you watch that I did not did he win he he did not he did not win he did not win he lost in three straight sets but he used to come out and just a plain white outfit now he's got Nike you know he's got Nike symbols on his shirts and all that stuff like that and I said man it's like once they reach a threshold you get that big contract baby yeah I mean uh you got to perform Travis probably wouldn't want to get hit you know sideways playing football and all of a sudden have to be podcasting in crutches or something you know so I don't know how that's going to play out but I I do uh I give those guys credit and I think the old bucks uh you know we uh we have our own we similar in many ways I would except for the 100 Mill ion dollar deal and they know how to get in touch with it if they want to we can issue a challenge to those guys they can invite us on to their podcast or we could invite them on to ours and we can talk about a little bit of football which they may you know they may have the Insight on right they they probably know a little more about professional football Le Kel probably checking his email for the invite I'm sure but we know how to do fitted sheets so all the guys all the best to the Kelsey you gota love them you gotta love them gotta love them so hey there was something else I was going to ask you uh did you see that thing where Taco Bell we're talking about AI I'm jumping over to AI issue it's all over the place okay did you see see the Taco Bell is using Ai and it's uh um drive-thru line no I guess I didn't tell me about if you Google it if you if you Google uh Taco Bell and AI they've somehow got an AI program that can Master several uh quirky dialects or accents and can actually take orders instead of having a real person okay now I I just somehow feel that when when an orary teenager or some somebody decides or an old Buck or an old Buck besides the test this you know what I mean it's like uh how do you see the test going well I mean it it's it probably if everybody's forthright in their order and it's straightforward and you know it's on the menu or something and it's like uh I want tacos but I want some Sriracha sriracha sauce on or something like that or or they do something and you you get it you go around the corner you don't even turn the building and you're back in what the bag saying this isn't right I'd like an order of see see what you get be like they like the lottery so I really thought about that I said that that to me is I mean to save to save the what price of one individual who's you know not a high pric I would like to least banter with the uh with the real person of course when you get to the window I guess I mean the computer must print it out for them to make it right that would be the hope that would be the hope so we will see we will see what happens to those folks uh who go through a Taco Bell line that actually has the AI uh you know interface there or something and please write to us please please talk to us yeah yeah send us a message that you tried it you found someplace you went in and how did it work for you so send in send in your experience tell us tell us what happened yeah and then then this AI thing about about fake stuff and everything you see and there's that just was all over the news this morning I was listening to that you follow anything that B I was riding my bike this morning I didn't watch any news you actually got a well there you go I got an early ride not kind of early it was kind of hot the U AI fakes of the swifties swifties for Trump did you see that they said that okay I know I know that that was out there they yeah anyhow they were they were really concerned about the possibilities so I was going to ask you this and you can you can be honest you ever see the Liberty Mutual commercial that's with dog Doug and Doug and the Beast and the Emu emu emu emu yeah now see I don't think that's AI gener I think that's a real emu that they real I think that's I mean I can see it with my own eyes right there it's a real emu emu and uh how they trained it to do all those things is I think pretty amazing so that means most of what we see if we can see it it could be true you know what I mean if you can see it with your eyes they would they won't be able to fool me they won't be able to fool if they already haven't so you you think no that's a real I'm telling you it's real it's not real I believe it I'm telling you it's not real the only thing that even could was like that he was not able to he was well that uh I'm sure it took several tries and they probably had a little hole there for him to do it but the only thing the Emu couldn't do was slide down that uh fire pole you know I could see that because he couldn't hold on to but I mean the outfits he wears and the sunglasses and all that stuff he looks Mar just like you yeah so all you listeners out there we have a debate going on here about what's real is the Emu real or not is the Emu emu emu real yeah Dell says it's real Dave says not a chance not goingon to P you well I don't know how listener votes would uh would determine whether it's real or not that's just somebody else's opinion but somebody if somebody knows for sure then tell us if you just want to vote whether he's real or not we're not interested well yeah tell us why but that is interesting that somebody would say I believe that and if they want to believe that then I guess it's real to them right then it's real to them I think that's the way it goes so you can you can carry that over into a lot of different a lot of different areas study areas yes you can if you think it's real yeah you can believe it so hey I had a I had a this actually just this morning for some you're on a roll today buddy I like yeah I I this was I mean this was we were going to drink a couple of cold brew and probably walk out there Buzz with the caffeine if we' have got together but I had a I thought I said I wonder if I could get me a a Captain Kirk um shirt you know Captain James T Kirk from the Star Trek Enterprise yeah well it's called a Captain Kirk shirt a Kirk shirt KK yeah it's it's the uh it's they're actually uh for reenactors or something those guys that do that you know you can actually buy an outfit to look like Star Trek of course you can yeah of course you can probably a whole subculture out there right yes and I said huh I wonder if maybe something like that is$ eight or9 or well it's a lot more than 8 or9 if you get the the uh the one with the emblem on it you know the the ENT not the Enterprise the Federation Federation syil on his shirt you the whole thing okay I says for some reason I said I think to get one of them because you don't hardly ever see anybody walking around with one of those there's a reason there's a reason but you want one we could lock into the local public and say what planet is it what planet is this than me to your leader but it was expensive it was expensive like $70 for one of those well well worth it one of those shirts I don't ask me what made me think of that but I'm sure you know no idea I have no idea what makes you think a 90% of what you come up with I guess that's why we're still friends yeah I said to myself I I bet one of our listeners probably has one some somebody will write in and say you know I bought one of them years ago and I have one or you know I wear to uh on Halloween nights you know I go out and dressed as Captain Kirk or that could be because you know the even even though we look like we look with that shirt on you know on the Starship everybody special yeah everybody was special you know well we're certainly special yeah oh we're special another thought keep them coming buddy keep them coming okay I'm actually looking at you know I've got a list here of thoughts I'm impressed I'm impressed you you actually wrote stuff down prepared like this do I shocked I'm just gonna let you roll here yeah so did you see that that news about the leria outbreak now this is a more serious subject obviously oh yeah yeah it's like nine people dead already nine yeah okay okay so I was thinking about that and I always thought about that in those factories because I told you about the time I was in a butter Factory when I was driving a truck many many years ago I'll just go over one quickly is just I was in there I was picking up a load of U of margarine or butter they were and or was I delivering something to them I don't know I think I might have been dropping something off because I don't think I had I didn't have a refrigerator unit but so I'm walking here and I'm watching this production line going on and stuff machine is trying to fill those little square cubes of margarine or butter and stuff is getting splattered and things are falling all over the place and I'm thinking man there's a lot of waste so there's no waste there is no waste there's no way I said how do you manage to keep up with that and they said oh no we scoop this up paper and all we just re refine it and you know running through again so I'm thinking of all of this the processed uh product and they recalled it surely they didn't waste it all surely there was some way they could profitably dispose of this whether they had to turn it into animal feed or whether they could turn it into fertilizer or something do you think that many millions of pounds of I have no idea what they're going to do with it whether they have to incinerate it or I don't know think maybe there was a there was a way that they're required to to destroy it that's what I'm thinking but boy I read a I read an account of that factory this morning I did read that uh it's pretty scary it's like meat and fat stuck to the walls and the equipment uh insect and stuff dropping from the ceiling uh liquids dripping from the ceiling this is why I don't eat lunch meat well I'm not eating this as much as I used to because I know it's but you think about that because I realized that years ago I figured out how they made sliced turkey breasts and that stuff is really it's a whole bunch of pieces put together and smashed into a into that and then formed and I kept saying how can this ham always look the same why is it always the same it's always perfect I wasn't possibly they find a pig these are the special pigs these are these are lessons you learn as you age otherwise you know when you're a kid and you uh have a you get some kind of something called chip chop chip chop ham chip chop ham yeah yeah and you put that on some town talk bread and you eat it and then by the time you're like 25 and you go down and you watch them slice at yourself or something you're thinking man oh days how did they get that into that square square looking thing with all that uh all that junk in it so any know live and learn but I wondered really I thought that was kind of a dangerous situation they said a lot of that stuff could still be on the Shelf I'm not going to be buying any I'm I'm not either I'm I'm I'm gonna go more veggie veggies go off of feed Buddy yeah go veggie can you eat cauliflower flower like a cauliflower pizza flower yeah I can eat a cauliflower crust if that's what you're talking cauliflower crust that's what I'm saying MH I ran across that the other day fired one of them babies up I liked it you liked it it was not nearly as heavy so keeps you regular too the want a cauliflower a lot of cauliflower any all that junk you can put on top of it it was just mostly vegetables but I just want to let you know that uh I did experience that and I'm uh I'm not opposed to cauliflower pizza crust now somebody if if you think you're required to it if it's the only one on the Shelf let's put it this way don't hesitate to pick it up yeah hey let's uh let's get political here what do you think we we're allowed to do that we can do that now I mean I think yeah so what's this about more pickle ball courts and golf courses in Florida did you believe can you believe that I could not believe that of the the established power base came up with that thinking that they would not offend their own base yeah I guess we should tell everybody what we're talking about uh well they they want to take public parks and then sort of probably Farm it out to developers to they want to put golf courses and pickle ball courts or maybe a hotel inside of or maybe a hotel in inside of state parks yeah yeah land that was set aside for public state parks that's what we need more paved over land yeah yeah well there'll be a big big drain in the middle of the park to so what whatever water accumulates there we have can go right horizontally to the Sea this was another DeSantis plan you know that you know went under the radar he almost he probably could have got away with it if he just built them but yeah I wouldn't have know where that one part was at but those folks that live there that know that I mean they would have been offended by that I think that kind of recklessness may get those guys voted out of the office one day I wrote to my Congress persons I did I said this is this is not right back you see how they've backed off now no we were just thinking about it yeah well I mean that of all things is not a that is not a what a this side that side issue you know what I mean like I think we just ought to color all the fresh water with a green Dy yeah it's like you know it's like geez it's not just I'm not just offending those guys you know our guys are going to get caught up in that too so anyhow they they run into some U they run into some resistance on that so I'm glad they're not going to do that I mean gez that's one of the few few perks of living in Florida if you want to get out there you can find someplace you can find a place to play yeah yeah so so there's hope there's hope well you if you're talking political uh did you happen to notice the the voting strategy in Georgia the the the strategy is let's make it impossible to vote uh or something like that pretty close to that what I thought was the way I took it was we will make it very possible to elect the person we want to win yeah simply by challenging any any candidate that you know like if if it's our guys winning it was free and fair if those guys win it becomes a corrupt there's a problem right filed and anybody can can can begin a complaint basically bringing the whole system to a halt so I said but I don't know when people think like that I'm thinking you you you you you go down that road and it it just has to get more and more repressive to stay there and then you become like bellus or Orban or our buddy in North Korea Kim Jong I I don't want I don't want to offend him he's he's got a Long Reach so any we'll see how that plays out I me I'm pred to comment on it at the end of hey but uh closer to home I was again I was encouraged here we just had the am manity County you you and I live in different counties even though we're only a couple more we like each other but we just didn't want to we didn't want to live in the same county live in the same county yeah we had this uh when the longtime uh supervisor of elections retired he uh nominated his deputy his his long serving Deputy to take over of course Governor DeSantis said no no no I got a political hack that I want to put in there who's going to do the job for you all and that that that guy's James satcher who is now our present supervisor of elections and he's proven time and again to be a clown to have no idea what the job entails and what he's doing the good news is in the recently held primaries he was beaten by another Republican so he will not be running for election in the uh general election so that's a good news the people said uh you know that's that's no good uh so that's uh that's encouraging uh right after right after he lost in the primary he fired four of his people people who were involved in you know mailin voting and uh that sort of thing so he's he's doing his best to try to make the election as as challenging able as possible if it needs to be as you indicated and I think if I read someplace he was then he was then given a cushy job promoted or nominated for something else somewhere in the state of course but he'll be in this job till January so he will be the one there when the votes are counted in November so well we shall see again it's to me it's risky business when when if you really really push the limits and everybody thinks it's corrupt yeah and then and then there's a risk of not paying attention to the to it if you think everything is AI fake you startop paying attention to it you stop voting at all and next thing you know uh you have uh 27 votes for the governor of Florida and he wins and he wins I we hopefully I'll be long dead by then so anyhow that be that as it may you know that's that's I'm sitting there really I did had a bunch of I jotted down a bunch of notes to myself I do want to sometime in the future invite a guest who is a uh teaches English as a second language he has a long pedigree of teaching uh very dedicated somebody is a teacher and uh he fascinates me because he has he has a Tesla and a he has a Fiat 500 think about this I mean similar similar in many ways yeah yeah both have the same number of Wheels that's that's about it but they're both electric oh the fiat's electric it's electric he's got solar panels on his house he's got two electric vehicles and he's a little bit younger than us but he's an interesting fellow and he agreed that he would get on if we sent him an invitation so sometime in the future I think we want to talk to okay get some insight on what it's like to be a teacher of English language or a second you know English oh yeah that'd be great that'd be wonderful so other than that I think I've run the gamut of all the items that I had on my list you got anything else you want oh I have one other announcement uh yeah A friend of mine has agreed to come on a future podcast with us where we will one of the short story discussion podcast episodes where we'll we'll read the story and chat about it a little bit afterwards so he's going to chat with us or is he going to read it for us uh he may read it but he's going to chat with us we'll see who's going to read you never know you may read it who who knows well that would be because because he's a he's a somewhat of a uh I think you mentioned he he knows about short stories so he a little some proper Insight so all right well with that as future options then uh we'll stand by and all you listeners out there we're
