up Justin Fields is going to start today guys y unbelievable turn of events better rip K Mike garolo you've got the floor on this breaking story week one off the rails folks now three yeah lot of news flying Rich we're going to add to that Justin Fields uh expected or will be the starter excuse me we had said all morning long we expected him to be the guy he took the first reps when the quarterbacks were throwing to receivers Kyle Allen took the backup rep so he is expected to be the backup today Russell Wilson expected to be inactive with that calf injury the Steelers airing on the side of caution as they had done in training camp I can tell you this the Steelers were giving Justin Fields reps earlier in the week even before Wilson tweaked that because they were toying with the idea of having a package of plays for him so really when it uh came clear that Wilson was not going to be the starter it was about expanding that package of plays and tailoring the game plan more to What fields is comfortable with they have the utmost confidence in him given what he showed them in the summer and what he's able to do with both his arm and his legs it it it really is wild guys I mean when you when you think about it when when Russell Wilson showed up and Kenny picket had a reaction that by all accounts and the Steelers you know Mike Tomlin always says that he wants volunteers not hostages right he might have made a couple of Hostage type statements he winds up across state in in Philadelphia almost on the spot and then you're wondering who's going to be the backup there m Justin Fields so many people thought he might be Atlanta's starting quarterback in this game for this season because he's from Atlanta and a lot of folks were wondering what his Market would be it wound up being a sixth round selection in next year's draft that if he plays more than 51% of the snaps will be a fourth round pick for the Bears in next year's draft and now he winds up as the starting quarterback of the Steelers after all yeah it's really a wild turn of events here as Russ or pushing a a sled during the summer and practice winds up tweaking his calf and he can't he's he's not answering the Bell today or or the Steelers won't let him to try and be cautious that's the story here that puts him in the driver's seat in my mind because because he's going to get the first start if he plays well I think he gets another start and Russ is only on a one-year minimum on deal I mean they haven't committed to Russ they'd like to see what he can do like Baker Mayfield did a onee deal but if if Justin Fields plays like he did at times in Chicago he might be able to keep that job yeah I mean it's going to be interesting I've said it they aren't committed to either one of these guys although Russ was their starter so A lot's going to be dependent he plays well I agree I think he starts again next week he doesn't play well then it's easy to go oh we were going to go with Russ anyways we're going back to Russ so a lot will be determined I think on you know where he goes thisas season on this one game against the Falcons yeah and like I said earlier with all the possibilities of what he can do but don't be surprised we've seen a lot of creativity in this league I know personally watching the Saints when Drew Brees got older you brought in Tak some Hill and they ran a like a two quarterback system don't be surprised if Pittsburgh goes down that road where one might be the main guy but then you bring this one in opens up possibility of so much on the offense which gives the defense a lot to have to worry about so if you see kind of a two quarterback system in Pittsburgh don't be surprised and again when the riding was on the wall that the Bears were going to go with Caleb Williams and they were going to move on from Justin Fields a lot of people thought maybe he winds up in Atlanta instead Atlanta signs Kirk Cousins to all that money and Fields winds up being a starter in Atlanta but for Pittsburgh as if there's not enough Breaking News how many games do they slip without Jordan love can they hang on and and stay up on top with the Lions uh if not yeah the Bears can slip right in there if they can surpass the Bucks cuz that's a pretty darn good football team too so let's just slow our Ru just a little bit here and I think it's and some things I'm looking forward to watching today a couple things one as a passer one as a runner let's make the simple thing simple got a 3X one here it's third and two you know they're going to pressure you as a Young quarterback even in the preseason find your one-on-one anticipate get the ball out early look at the ball location here you cannot fit it in any better than that so knowing where your one-on ones are now as a runner down here in the Red Zone it's a simple Zone read I know who I'm reading right here he's going to crash I'm going to pull that's the first decision next decision do I want to cut this inside No I'm going to make him run the the loop here I'm going to take a nice easy stroll to the pylon and find your way into the end zone Jaden Daniels can impact this game a lot with both his arm and his legs which I think he's going to do do a little extra with his legs week one he's going to be a little amped up for this one I think 39 rushing yards in his week one debut is a little bit extra and that's what I have along with 226 passing yards a touchdown and interception that makes him quarterback 14 but look for the entire season long he surpasses 3,25 yards in 68% of my simulations that is a high number like 50s are usually where things land so over 3,25 Market down tough week one match up though too to go on the road against a top 10 defense and a defense that loves to Blitz as well DJ how about another uh rookie quarterback here bone Knicks LED College uh last year with 51 offensive touchdowns last season so what should Shawn pyton and the Broncos be loving about Bon knck right now we've connected B knck in the pre-draft process to Shawn pyton because we kept saying he's got his Drew Brees but there's a bonus when you really study Bo Knicks you can see a little bit of it here in the preseason not only can he give you some of the Drew bre stuff he can give you some of the tesm Hill stuff as well you see here this is a little split Zone here Zone read he keeps it gets a chunk play ends up getting a first down so that's that version of B knck now here is the Drew Brees version Look where the sticks are here you can take this little layup right here they're inviting that completion young quarterbacks will usually take that he bypasses it no one he can work in this triangle in the middle of the field there's enough space there to put that ball right on the money to get a first down so this is going to be Shawn Payton with one quarterback getting to do some things he did with two quarterbacks in New Orleans spent the preseason with the Denver Broncos I saw monix up close in personal I feel better about this projection than even other ones because I got to see it so firsthand 223 passing yards touchdown and interception and 29 rushing yards but I also want to point out that the season long number here surpasses 315 yards in 59% of simulation so bonix these guys are going to surpass all of our expectations this year coling that's something that makes a lot of sense what doesn't make sense to me is how mooch could love milk milk that much and have such brittle bones it does not add up it does not pass the smell test I I'm I'm still having like a nightmare scenario with the cast um that he brought in you are I had to smell it cast um what else do you have we should do show you have Jamar Chase go through his typical tennis ball warm-ups I'm told there's a good chance that he will be active in just a couple of minutes as for T Higgins he usually goes through that warm-up with Chase he was not out here on the field and I am told by multiple sources a good chance T Higgins does not play in this one today but look the Bengals are just one and three in week one games since Joe burrow became their starter but good news burrow says he feels the best heading into this season that he's felt since his rookie year quarterback Mike Hilton telling me despite Joe missing the final seven games of last season with a wrist injury surgery he believes that his throw actually has a little more zip on it he also says burrow sees people calling him out and not calling him one of the
