BREAKING: Dallas officer killed in shootout | LiveNOW from FOX

Breslow, and I'm here for the next several hours to bring you all of your top stories Live Events and breaking news. and speaking of breaking news, I do want to get to, uh, developing story right now. Take a look at your screen. This is video coming in from our Fox 4, Dallas station as we have learned that a Dallas police officer was shot, and killed over in the Oak, Cliff area. 2 other officers, hurt 1 of them critically Now the Dallas Police Department said they got a call around 10 p.m. last night about an officer. in distress. near the Oak Cliff Community Center, that's over on lead better Road near. Marcellus Avenue if you are familiar with that area. they say they found an officer in his marked Patrol vehicle who had been shot. and responding officers then exchanged gunfire. With a suspect, and 2 officers. were shot there at the scene. All 3 officers, take it a local hospitals, and police did confirm 1 officer died. a second Officer does have life threatening injuries. The third officer. expected to be okay. we did hear from a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department. early this morning, a very quick news conference only about 2 minutes in length as they provided the very basic information. and said they would not be taking questions. Do you want to play that for you, right now? First of all, thank you all for being here tonight. We greatly appreciate the support. and to be able to get the message out. Obviously everything is still unfolding right now. So we hope that you'll respect the fact that we're not going to be taking any questions. but we want to tell you the information that we know it. right now in terms of our investigation, On the 29th. at about 10:10 29th at about 10:10 p.m. We? were called the Dallas police officers were called to an officer in distress call. in the 900 block of East LED better drive, when our officers arrived, they found a Dallas police officer who had been shot in his marked Patrol vehicle. Responding officers then exchanged gunfire with a suspect. at that scene. And 2 officers were shot at that scene. All 3 were taken to local hospitals. 1 of those officers is listed in stable condition. 1 officer is listed in critical condition. And 1 officer. died from his injuries this evening. That suspect then fled. the scene. our officers pursued. that Pursuit. uh, ended. in Louisville. and the 1,000 block of Stemmons Freeway The preliminary investigation is showing them when that suspect. exited that vehicle. he had a long gun. Uh, Dallas police officers then shot at the suspect fired at the suspect. and he died at that scene. Obviously the investigation is ongoing. we have obviously scenes here in Dallas. And also in Louisville that we're investigating at this time, so, that will be continuing throughout, uh, this morning and and through the day, 1 more thing that I'll add. And I think that you see that from the support that we have behind us. and from our city, our city leaders, is that our department is hurting. We? have officers, who are injured, who are in the hospital. and we lost 1 of Our Own. We asked tonight. and this morning, for the thoughts and prayers of our city. for not only those who are recovering in the hospital. but for our fallen, For their family. and for their loved ones. And for us as a department, as well. Chief Garcia will, obviously be able to update. Um, in in the coming days. Uh, the investigation. uh, and, and on our fallen and on the officers who are injured uh that's all that we have for this evening and we want to really appreciate all the support that we have with you guys being here. and to get our message out, uh, to the city for for their support. to thank them for their support. Uh and that we will have that update from Chief Garcia coming soon. Okay. Thank you. All. and we expect that today. all right, so again a very brief news conference that was held just moments ago by Dallas Police, we are working to get some more information. and working very closely with our Fox 4, Dallas team. But again, here is the information that we do have. so far. a Dallas police officer shot and killed and the oakcliffe area 2 other officers. hurt 1 of them, critically. the Dallas Police Department saying they got The call around 10 p.m. local time last night. about an officer in distress near the oakcliffe community center on lead better road. that is near Marcellus Avenue. They found an officer in his Mark Patrol vehicle who had been shot and responding officers then exchanged gunfire with a suspect. and 2 officers were shot at the scene. All 3 officers. taken a local hospitals and police do confirm that 1 of those officers died. A second Officer does have injuries that have been deemed. like threatening and the third officer is expected to be okay, You heard this but Kristen lamb in the spokesperson. for the police department. saying that their department is hurting, they have officers who are injured or in the hospital and they did lose 1 of Their Own. the investigation. very active.
