you are locked on Eagles postcast part of locked on Sports Philadelphia on the locked on podcast Network your team everyday well how about that uh Philadelphia team gets blown out what is this the Phillies H all right it's the preseason who cares anyway welcome in my name is Mark faretta this is locked on Eagle postcast the last Eagles postcast of the pre-season before I hand it over to uh well you know it's not a me it's not I can't say I can't say just yet I'll wait for the network to make the announcements but it's two guys that you're gonna love I'm gonna tell you that much but I do appreciate let me say this right out of the gate I do appreciate you guys joining me for locked on Eagles pre-season play I will remain your man for locked on Phillies postcast as well as locked on 76ers postcast but I do just want to say thank you for joining me for this Eagles preseason as we followed a quarterback two battle qb2 battle as we have followed a defensive back battle as we have followed linebacker battles offensive line depth so much going on throughout this preseason actual some actually watching some motion being run in the preseason I wasn't expecting to see that in the preseason but boom there it was we got so much to get into especially when it comes to today's game unfortunately the Eagles did take the 26 uh to three loss at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings we did get to see Cooper de jeans play today for the first time the first time he played in a football game since the 11th of November so yeah he's not gonna look exactly crisp out there but I love the fact that he played as much as he did I love the fact that he competed no matter where he was inside outside special teams goal line wherever he might have been he was there to compete to nothing knock the rust off love to see that from Cooper to Jean I wish we would have seen a better game all in all but we'll go through the whole thing but thanks very much for uh making us your first listen for you I'm going to go from three to one I still can't get over over the fact and this only cemented it further I can't get over the fact that I'm watching Eagles preseason football and I'm on the edge of my seat especially in the first couple of quarters in this game here first half at least going oh what do we got at the linebacker position this year when you look at the depth chart I think one would have to safely assume that you're looking at Devin white number one uh then you might be looking at noobe De number two and then you could be looking uh elsewhere you could be looking at Zack Bond there at number three you could be looking at Jeremiah trudder Jr at number four uh Ben Von sumerin Orin Burks what saw a little bit of Jeremiah trer Jr today glad that he got some reps out there I expected to get some reps out there he did not a lot but a few uh axman the actual axman senior was there on the sidelines watching the game absolutely love it but what I saw from the linebackers today I loved and then look I'm not saying these guys are now going to be competing for first team that's not what I'm talking about what I'm talking about are guys that could have helped their cause today and did help their cause today Ben Von sumerin I liked what I saw from him today but he's still gonna be a practice squatter I liked what I saw from him but he's still gonna be a practice squad guy if that I think he helped his cause in being on the practice squad I looked at a guy like Orin Burks today and saw what he was able to do on the football field I wished that ball would have fallen in his hands it was tipped in the back field I wish it would have fell on his hands he just couldn't Corral it it would have been an interception would have loved to have seen that from him a veteran player trying to make a name for himself here in Philadelphia and I say a veteran player he' been around a little bit but trying to make a little bit of a name for himself here in Philadelphia would have loved to see him come with that interception it just wasn't meant to be as far as the stat sheet did go for Orin Burks though today you saw uh he was second on the team in tackles today he went out there he was actually leading the team in tackles there for a hot minute before Tristan McCullum came up big in the fourth quarter there Orin Burks did come up with a sack he did come up for a tackle for loss love to see that for him Ben Von suumer in right behind him he also came up with a sack he had two tackles in the back field two tackles for a loss in total he had six tackles he was tied for third on the team and Tackle toay both those linebackers at least showing up in preseason game number three for as well as you could play to help solidify a either roster spot or practice squad spot those two gentlemen played at that level and I we're talking about preseason game number three third quarter fourth quarter these guys trying to step up and make plays for you so I love seeing that just from a competitive standpoint in today's game love to see that from that and also getting the production not just going out there and working hard and doing all the right things but going out there and actually getting some production out of it as well so love to see that again from the linebacker spot usually just ah pooo that push it off the side of the T I don't need that I loved watching it today seeing the battle there was great number two all right so you got Jan doson at the number three wide receiver spot okay oh excuse me this is staying with number three I'm I'm sorry I'm combining these positions here because it's along the same notes linebacker and wide receiver I'm putting in the same category for today's game because you already have your guys you have your guys you have like your three guys that you're gonna be using mainly throughout the season at least that's the goal when everybody stays healthy right if everybody stays healthy uh but the wide receiver spot you solidified when you got Jan doson now you're going to have guys battling it out to try to be wide receiver four wide receiver five that's what you're gonna have that's what you're looking at well today unfortunately Joseph NADA did not help himself out even a little bit especially on that interception off his hands in the Red Zone when all he had to do was catch the ball and he at the very least had the first down for himself on that fourth down attempt and unfortunately bing bang interception Tanner mcke put it right where was supposed to be come down with it uh did not like what I saw from him uh looking at some other guys from the wide receiver position today Griffin abar ended up being your leading wide receiver today with h 48 yards on three catches I don't think he does anything for I look good for him competed for day for today I don't think you I don't think you're gonna see practice squad I they going to see anything there but at least somebody was able to step up and catch passes from Tanner McCay we'll get why that's relevant coming up in a second but for the wide receiver number four roll wide receiver number five rle even not too much jumped out to me other than one positive step for Paris Campbell uh going out there today and actually competing coming up with two nice catches for the Eagles one actually on a bubble screen as a matter of fact so I like seeing that so linebacker wide receiver you're working to see much movement there but I put those two position groups together today because I thought it's already decided who your main guys are going to be now you're just looking for the role players or you're also looking for the depth pieces now I'll move on to number two number two is quarterback number two I like Tanner mcke if it was Tanner mcke would be the number two quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles Tanner mcke has done the thing where he actually puts the ball in the end zone and even if he puts the ball in the end zone he's at least putting it in the end zone even though it's not caught EJ Jenkins unfortunately big fan of his Eagles let go of a veteran WI a veteran tight end earlier in the week I believe that was to help make room for EJ Jenkins a guy that could make a play for you and certainly made plays for you preseason game number one against Ravens preseason game number two against Patriots made plays for you today not of so much unfortunately for EJ Jenkins but Tanner mcke put the ball in his hands it went right through Tanner mcke put the ball in hands of Joseph Kata and B did not get the first down and got to and got to and not going to get the first down on that play unfortunately and you're going to get an interception instead but when I saw the ball actually being moved down the field the guy moving the ball down the field was Tanner mcke and it's far too consistent throughout this preseason I mean you look at Even Stevens if you want to call it that in preseason game number one yet a uh yet a 15-play drive by Kenny picket good hustle to you yet had a 17 playay drive by Tanner mcke he outdid it he's been outdoing outperforming pick it throughout the preseason if the preseason means anything then it's obvious who your qb2 should be however and this is unfortunate but this is how the Eagles are going to view it if Tanner mcke would have made a game of it if that ball would have been reeled in by EJ Jenkins in the end zone for the touchdown it would have been a different story if uh Joseph inat gets the first down there you come up with the touchdown later then we're might we might be talking about something else to take away the qb2 role for a guy like Kenny picket who the Eagles brought in who was a first round pick there's going to be a guy who's already started in the NFL for him to not be the first guy off the bench Tanner mcke needed a knockout blow at some point in the preseason he had that opportunity coming in in the second half of this game and it didn't happen is it all his fault no did I see more movement did I see him moving to his right a lot more do I see did I see him scrambling did he just barely he just missed that first down his knee was down just a little too soon on that I believe it was a fourth and six he scrambled came down a little too early and then they called it a first down and then they reviewed and they took it away by the way Kevin okell what the hell man you are without question the kid in school that says H teacher you didn't check homework yet you I did you check the homework I did the homework meanwhile the other kids that forgot there his homework or forgot didn't do the homework like me they're like shut up dude I to have my homework done if you want to check my homework calls it he throws a challenge flag on that play nerd anyway uh Tanner mcke needed that knockout blow did not get it today the opportunity he didn't get it was was it all his fault that he didn't get it it's not all his fault but going into the season it's already decided can he pick its number two you didn't get the knockout Blow from Tanner mcken I when I think about knockout blows like that from a backup quarterback guy fighting to be the backup quarterback I go to AJ fely AJ fely before he won his backup role with the Eagles he had a hell of a preseason and out of nowhere shot out of a cannon became a backup quarterback for the Eagles earned himself a job Tanner mcke is gonna stay he's gonna keep himself on the roster obviously but uh not going to be a guy that's most likely going to be dressing on game days unfortunately uh that brings me to number three or excuse me number one least important most important could Cooper to Jean good to see you I just love that you saw him out there tonight or this afternoon by the way can we say can we just acknowledge how weird it was to watch a one o'clock preseason game in the afternoon like I kept on being like is the season started it was so it was weird man but anyway uh Cooper de jeene went out there and he played his butt off the snap counts uh won't come out till early tomorrow morning maybe even later tonight but probably early tomorrow morning and what I saw from Cooper to jeene was a guy that just was trying trying like nobody's business to knock that rust off again has it played has it played since Iowa on the no on the 11th of November of last year so it's been a minute since he's actually played football in a game and today just on the statline for him five total tackles three solo tackles one tackle for loss he was lined up to return punts twice he was able to return one of them for only seven yards he got hit a little bit but it wasn't anything worth bragging about but just to see him go out there and see that versatility was great and as I said you saw him inside a little bit you saw him on the outside you saw him line up in goal line you saw him get into the back field for that tackle for loss I I think that was a designed quarterback Blitz and Cooper deene did a great job with it and as I look throughout the game there were two instances where he could have been burnt toast for two touchdowns both with um lucky Jackson if I'm not mistaken in the game uh the first one came in the first quarter Cooper to jeene was all over all right Cooper to John for those that need to hear it Cooper to jeene was all over lucky Jackson in the front corner of the end zone if you want to call it that near corner of the end zone I don't know and um uh they let it rip Paul let it rip down the field and Cooper de was with him step for step it was a great throw he was on him enough and Jackson just did not come down with the football and his feet in bounds he had one foot in bounds and then the coverage was I guess just tight enough got to give him credit for it where the only way he could come down with that football was stepping out of bounds so credit to him did he get beat by an eighth of a step sure and then later in the game similar type of situation Jackson was in on it as well deene was over him but again he stepped out of bounds later in the game so Cooper deene could have been taken for two touchdowns in this game but guess what he wasn't so Point defensive back point to the rookie second round pick of your Philadelphia Eagles uh all in all there's definitely some things he has to work on uh there's a couple of instances there where he was just taken out of the play like ridden out of the play shedding blocks is going to be a thing that every young corner has to learn he's certainly going to have to learn that uh but what I saw from him tonight gave me a lot of Hope for the very near future for the Philadelphia Eagles I think as of right now it's it's going to be set I think you're going to have uh Isaiah Rogers by all accounts is going to be the starting Corner opposite Darius SLE it seems like quenan Mitchell is gonna be your starting slot Corner your nickel not your nickel Corner not your inside corner but your nickel according to Vic fangio don't get those confused if you haven't listened to the Eagles defensive coordinator Vic fangio talk about nickel versus Corner oh you have Miss missed a lecture Series so far training camp well training Camp's over this preseason uh so that's the way it's going to look going into the season but Cooper de Jee will be carving out more and more action for himself uh as the season approaches which is just around the corner now so all in all I liked what I saw from him honorable mention for tonight's game this afternoon's game Sorry I did it again uh so after the linebackers wide receivers quarterbacks and then Cooper de Jean offensive line depth in particular so one of the big things we've been looking at now you could say the right guard position you're going to have considerable a considerable amount of depth at the Right Guard spot uh but as of right now uh when it comes to some other spots there on the offensive line there's definitely some cause for concern but one guy that has really stepped up for me or stepped out to me and I know for a lot of other people as well is Daren Canard who played every snap with the exception of the final two minutes of this game at the right tackle spot so that kind of lets you know that Jeff stoutland and the Philadelphia Eagles and Kell Moore and Nick serani and Howe Roseman feel pretty good about laye Johnson if he ever has to miss time about somebody at least stepping in to fill that void at the Right Guard spot Brett to got to got the opportunity to start there tonight this afternoon uh I thought he did a fine job couple instances I saw being able to get up field seal some blocks off for himself that was great love seeing that um Dylan MC McMahon the uh rookie at the center position today he went out there was okay nothing really jumped out to me Nick Gates is a veteran so he's gonna continue to get his feet wet uh but after tonight after today's game I feel a lot better about the depth of this offensive line it was one of the number one things I was looking at in this game after I was going to look at the linebackers the wide receiver four spot um and oh the Cooper to jeene just playing I liked what I saw from this Eagles offensive line I hope I continue to see it when called upon because it seems like you always have offensive linemen that are called Off the Bench to get some spot starts or some spot snaps throughout the season so I liked what I saw there uh coming up we'll go through a quick list of pluses and minuses from today's game who helped their cause who hurt their cause and also some great news and some bad news for the Cowboys great news for the Eagles and what they did today to honor a legend and then bad news for the Cowboys I'll call it when it comes to one of the top corners in the game back in a few and we'll also take your comments your locked on Network your team every day locked on fantasy football podcast on the locked on podcast Network once again your team every day uh lesea McCoy is one of my favorite alltime Eagles and every year the last preseason game Jeffrey Lori comes on the screen and Jeffrey Lori talks about who is making it into the Eagles Hall of Fame lesea McCoy is the Eagles alltime leading rusher lesea McCoy and his uh incredible career here in Philadelphia we all remember the snow globe game I will never forget one of the first times I ever listened to what I thought was a hot take analogy was uh Chris Collinsworth of NBC Sunday night football talking about lesea McCoy as the closer and he said oh oh lesea McCoy is like mariana rivera it was one of the first times I heard anyone first off just call any running back a closer and lesea McCoy was certainly that closer but then Chris cworth out hotted his own hot take he heated up another hot take for you and he said Barry Sanders I I know I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this now here's a guy where you have a guy in lesea McCoy that reminds me of Barry Sanders and my first thought was how dare you and I'm an Eagles fan how dare you and then I thought when he's breaking it down he's not saying he's like Barry Sanders generally he was breaking down one specific thing and it is what made Barry Sanders so great but there's a couple other things that made Barry Sanders pretty great too but there was this one thing that LESA McCoy did that was so Barry Sanders esque in his Heyday with the Philadelphia Eagles before Chip Kelly ruined it we all know it but anyway and it was the ability to be going 100 miles in one direction and then the next thing you blink and it's a 100 miles in in the other direction the Juke the fake whatever it was it was that he never stopped he never transitioned it was just this direction and boom he was gone and time and time again when I watched LESA McCoy highlights or even just think back to his career I am just amazed by and I know a lot of people jump to the first year with Chip Kelly oh no no no his uh first year with Andy Reid or second year with Andy Reid he was off the charts incredible I want to say 19 touchdowns was absolutely unbelievable and then of course I think about what could have been and I do think about the unfortunate situations that played out with Chip Kelly being a and him for Kiko Alonzo and we all know that history lesson so I'm not going to go into it too much but all I'll say is we were robbed out of a guy that was supposed to be a career eagle and at the absolute worst an eagle for the vast majority of his career with the exception of maybe two seasons but he went to Buffalo he thrived in Buffalo he went to Tampa he won a Super Bowl and Tampa won a Super Bowl and Kan city two Super Bowl rings for that young man I look back on that career and I I am amazed that he was able to get the Eagles alltime leading rusher title uh the rushing King of the Philadelphia Eagles but I still think back and say wow what else could have been with that incredible career in Philadelphia for Thea McCoy a couple of things that they did note on today's broadcast uh during the game for LESA McCoy's career it was 6,792 career rushing yards with Philadelphia Eagles again the rushing record single game rushing record was in that snow Globe game in 2013 against the Lions he rested for 217 Yards two-time First Team All Pro in 2011 and 2013 I think 2011 was the year that he just absolutely went banana sandwich uh on the NFL uh That season and I will never forget because people always talked about seeing the best in the Shawn McCoy and the Chip Kelly offense and I'm like whoa whoa what what about what about that 2011 year now 2011 lesea McCoy went off for uh 17 touchdowns on the ground and three touchdowns through the air so 20 I gave him 19 I short changed him it's ridiculous um that's what he did, 1300 yards on the ground that season under Andy Reid that was not a great year for the Eagles the 2011 season was the Dream Team year if I'm not mistaken that was not a good year that was a bad year um yeah there's Vince Young okay yeah uh 13009 yards 17 touchdowns that was through the air and then he caught 48 uh 48 passes for 3155 yards in another three scores 2011 was a pretty great year for the Shawn McCoy and then he was traded away from us because Chip Kelly hates nice things traded away at 26 years old went to Buffalo only had two more thousand yard seasons would have had three more he got injured in 2015 ah all right that's enough him getting into the Eagles Hall of Fame absolutely love it absolutely worthy of it and of course tied hand in hand with Leon is desan we all know that they're boys now and or they've been boys for a long time and their podcast is great um but yeah another one another generation a Philadelphia generational Talent both those guys robbed from the Eagles fan base bar too soon um and then that's the good news the the bad news and I'm saying this is bad news for the for the Dallas Cowboys it was uh released during the Eagles game today that Don Bland uh has been uh sidelined for 6 to eight weeks with a with a stress fracture in his foot so he will be missing most likely uh the first month of the Cowboys season he of course came up with nine interceptions last year and set a new NFL record for five interception returns for touchdowns last year so a huge Miss for the Dallas Cowboys I'll end it at that when we come back we're going to take a look at some of your comments about this game uh and then we'll also uh take a look at what the next two weeks could look like and I'll give you those plus minuses that I mentioned a second ago when it comes to who could be staying who could be going from your loon post your job for free terms and conditions apply looking at your Philadelphia Eagles and what could be coming up in the not too distant future first and foremost most Orin Burks might have played himself on to this football team for depth of the linebacker position Ben Von suumer as I mentioned probably another year on the practice squad did some have did did have some activity on the Eagles uh roster Big Boy roster last year Julian okaara had a couple of big plays including a sack including a hurry tonight coming off the edge for your Philadelphia Eagles absolutely love the opportunity that he got tonight uh especially when you talk about what he was able to do when he got in the Back Field to wreak some Havoc a couple opportunities that he' had oh also Nolan Smith played in tonight's game I did not expect that to happen but he did play in tonight's game and Patrick Johnson earn himself a starting role for your Philadelphia Eagles coming off the edge for the Eagles today Tanner mcke I think he did help himself a little bit but he didn't help himself enough if he had to give a pass fail grade I believe he passed tonight but I don't think he played himself into that quarterback two role as I said earlier in the broadcast um Tristan McMullen came out tonight I thought he played really well uh he might be able to work himself into a practice squad role but right now I know the Eagles at the safety position or in a situation where they um aren't looking for a lot of help they seem to be pretty packed at the safety spot right now who did not help themselves today I mentioned two already but it's worth reiterating Kenny picket EJ Jenkins did not help their cause this afternoon uh let's see what you guys have to say about this one uh KGB officer Kenny pick it is a dodo crazy the brother was a starting quarterback not even a year ago he's not very good he's not very good Ari what's going on oh my God I can't believe how bad they are they should be embarrassed season isn't even worth fighting I like I like it I like that I like it actually I missed the game did we win no we lost Babs what's going on farsy they can't or they didn't charge ad mission to see that did they oh my God Lori yeah you know the preseason is still good for you know the people that uh don't really get to go during the regular season because it is wildly expensive like I know someone who takes his kids there every year because he can't afford to go to an actual like a game game uh bad going far he pick it isn't an NL quarterback I um I think he might be you know a third Stringer but unfortunately Eagles are going to keep him as the quarterback number two you know what I mean quarterback number two Ari plus one oh there I see you're agreeing with Barbara sorry okay uh Joshua frell what's going on Philly sports stink gee thanks Joshua make me feel better about it e money Bentley go Birds I'm with you on that go Birds hell yeah oh Dan Sue Harris Dan Su Harris where you been uh man how do you conjure up any excitement for the coming season after this coupled with the Phillies oh the Phillies are only aiding to my excitement with your
