it is time everybody to whip out your whisks and butter your baking tins I know it's a bit early but the Great British Bake Off is back with this year's charity special for stand up to cancer 20 famous faces will be battling it out inside the famous white tent hoping to be crowned Star Baker and the comedian Adam Hills who's chuckling here next to us like he like he can't believe he's on this show morning morning we'll talk to Adam in a moment first should we have a quick look yeah remind yourself I don't know that I can ask is confidently but how's everyone going I've got absolutely no idea how it's going really yeah I don't know if it's going good or it's going bad I can't tell I feeling quietly confident that we're all doing a marvelous job that's not way that's the spirit of the Lord that's done happy enough yeah Richard yeah all over it um up the Arsenal is that right that's the one when you walk into this tent there should be a chorus of angels I'm really glad I'm a comedian my motto will be doesn't matter if I burn something as long as it's funny I think I just made biscuits it's a miracle you and I have done comedy festivals around the world we played football together in Melbourne not as impressive as that I've made biscuits look at that it's a miracle how did you perform that Miracle you made biscuits for the first time on telly for the first time on telly I was really proud of myself it's it's such a tiny thing to be so excited by and especially with there I've known no for years we've pared at festivals around the world and yet I'm I'm making biscuits and he's in a Woolen jumper Adam of course where are the biscuits mate well well I mean this was filmed quite some time ago and the biscuits were so delicious they were eatting instantly did you enjoy it I loved it I absolutely loved it I kind of I went in there thinking I'm not I probably won't bake particularly well but if I I didn't expect a handshake from Paul Hollywood but here's what I wanted I just wanted him to taste something and go the nod you wanted that Hollywood nod yeah yeah didn't even get that I think Hollywood's got beef with me what genuinely so okay so I turned up for filming I hadn't seen Paul Hollywood for like 10 years where I hosted um celebrity 15 to1 and he was one of the contestants and he was the first person knocked out oh dear and he literally walked over to me first thing he said was Adam I haven't seen you since uh you hosted 15 to1 and I was the first person knocked out and I went are you carrying a grudge went yeah he really remembered after all that time so I had no hope I every time he walked over he just looked at me like I'm I'm gunning for you I'm taking you down so you didn't get the Hollywood handshake you the Hollywood punch in the face I I got emotionally scared by Paul Hollywood tell me how much how much of a baker were you before you went into the tent so my daughters are really good bakers my my eldest in particular she'll just go into the kitchen she'll whip up her like a lemon drizzle cake and come back you know an hour later and it's done um my youngest is nine uh sorry was nine before I did bake off and she she started saying Daddy can we bake a chocolate cake today and I'd be like yeah go on that's and I think I got a false Confidence from her because she there was one day she said I want to have um Pizza dumplings for dinner I was like what's Pizza dumplings she said well it's like a pizza but it looks like a dumpling hey I was like where have you seen this and she went in my head okay so I went away and searched and went okay if you get pizza dough and then you put all the topping in the middle and then you fold it up like that and twirl it around and put it in the oven and bake it it might actually be all right and it was and that was my my one baking success and I think I went into bake off too confidently because of that because the thing about baking is you can't be vague can you you've got to be quite precise so when I was at high school our chemistry teacher used to have a thing where he'd say it was come on boys measure properly we're not bucket chemists here I'm a bucket Baker I'm totally like yeah that's about right so what was the girls react when you told them you were going to be on Bake Off were they terrified well it's it's an interesting thing having kids this is the first time I've been allowed to go on one of the shows that they like oh now why did they say that bof was okay I think least embarrassing I think because they love Bake Off enough and celebrities do it but every time I've been asked to go on a show that they like go on tell me the shows you're not allowed on um anything on cbbs oh like when they were little and there would you know book club or anything like that that and they'd be like I'd say oh I've been asked to go on and they go no so you can't read the book at bedtime it was like don't ruin our favorite show that's what it was that was and I think now Bake Off is fine Bake Off was enough and do you know what um I was on with Joe lock who's in Heart Stopper and my youngest loves Joe lock so I took one of his biscuits home to Australia for her you did I'm saying it quietly cuz I'm not entirely sure that's legal but um they're quite strict aren't they through C you bringing anything into the country sir yeah a biscuit made by the guy from Heart Stopper you got a problem with that is there a place on the form for that I'm not sure there is was it still all right didn't crumble into she wouldn't need it oh really she she didn't want to destroy it so it stayed in the fridge for like three oh that's great so tell us what was your moment of Triumph in bake off then was there something was there a particular moment that you will that will stand out uh PR said one of my cakes was witty witty that's kind it looks like you're having a blast in the tent with Richard and it's a good team it was a lovely we've all we've set up a WhatsApp chat group we're all in contact with each other um it was the most suppored swapping recipes yeah yeah genuinely like Joe and Sarah and the Reverend I mean he's as you saw he's he's just so positive and uplifting um it was the loveliest I'm going to say we were the loveliest tent out of the whole series wow and for an amazing cause oh of course it's for stand up to cancer which you know I've been co-hosting the show for the last few years on Channel 4 um my dad um died from lemia and one of the last things he said to me before he died was good luck in London because things were just starting to happen here so every time something like this happens in London uh I always think of my dad and think yeah I'm doing it for him it's a big year isn't it I me you've got the Olympics par Olympics coming up in in it's a big week yes you know yes we've got the Olympics we've got the par Olympics we've got two elections we've got the UK we've got the US elections but then we were just talking about the news overnight you've got the Oscars you've got the photo coming out from Kensington Palace it's a big week and you've got a good Oscar story for us haven't you okay so here's my okay so I I lived in Dublin for a little while and had an agent over there and all that kind of stuff and then I was in LA my agent was in LA and he said oh um Killian's in town promoting a movie do you want to go for dinner I was like yeah yeah come love to K on the way up and we got to dinner I said oh hi I'm Madam and he went oh we met we met at the agency Christmas party uh two years ago he remembered you but this is what he said he said and I was like really he went I was telling you that I was going to go to Australia on holidays and you gave me your phone number but I was so drunk at the party I was too embarrassed to call you when I got to Australia and I was like what so somewhere somewhere Killian Murphy still got my phone number have you got his number no he never called you going to get an exclusive and give him a call and of all the reasons not to call I was really drunk that night and I thought I made a fool of myself I wonder how Killian is right now possibly had a drink exactly St yeah Adam it's great to see you thank you much thank you thank you and the great celebrity Bake Off stand up to cancer airs on Sunday 7:40 on Channel 4 you've just reminded me so I used to make my kids Crumpet in an emergency tea time Crum I called it Crum Pizza it was a Crum p with ketchup on the top bit of cheese and kind of a pizza yeah I'm so can take next time you're in the Bake Off t
