Hello friends and welcome once again this is Syracuse football postgame presented by kuss Health the exclusive Healthcare partner for Syracuse Athletics you got Brent ax you got Emily ler we got you we got our Syracuse Sports insiders ready to chime in in with questions and wisdom and just what exactly did Georgia Tech coach Brent key say to get you know Emily the only thing missing from Fran Brown's press conference was a little iPad that he was looking at and I took that personally if you remember the last dance of course and Michael Jordan Fran was pretty fired up at the end of his press we're going to play of that clip coming up here I think arond deats in had a pretty interesting thing to say about how Fran Brown just put the pedal to the metal uh this week in terms of added motivation for this game a 31-28 win for Syracuse over number 23 Georgia Tech at Syracuse's first win over a ranked team since beating NC State two years ago at the Dome the Kyle McCord hype is going to get off the charts here especially with Syracuse going into a bye another nice bonus and a feather in their cap as they go two and 0 and get to kind of reset a little bit here before a Friday night matchup against Stanford at the Dome we're going to hear from from a guy in Florida put it that way a regular contributor to this postgame show and so much more as we like to say in the media business Emily uh the orange did get by on the hair on their chinny chin chin this was a 3114 game in the fourth quarter before Georgia Tech went down and scored they recovered an onside kick scored again but just couldn't quite get over the hump here didn't have quite enough time to get this thing going so we do have to talk about the defense and the Special Teams which was not so special today to be honest but let's let's take a breath and reset here for those not in tune with the Brent key Fran Brown simmering uh rivalry now here let's let's reset for the people and and sat the stage for a clip I'm going to play here shortly on why Fran was so fired up about uh Georgia Tech this week yeah so uh during Brent's midweek press conference he speaks on Tuesdays it's the same thing as Fran does on Mondays at the start of his his press conference his opening statement I'll read off kind of what he said which is this is a game I just told the team this has nothing to do with plays calls runs passes coverages fronts ain't none of that this game's about our ability to be the most physically tough football team we can possibly be from 12 until about 4 o'clock on Saturday that's it hands down that is the only thing context clues after the game um told us that that was a quote that if bran Brown keyed in on um and the team keyed in on not to not to make a key reference obviously but um you know I I will say Brent key did compliment Fran Brown's like talk about Fran Brown working for tough hard-nosed coaches later um he did like say like no I don't remember a ton about Fran from when we were at Western Carolina together Fran was a player he was an offensive a young offensive coach at that time but he was like I know the guys he's worked for I I've obviously watched their tape from last week so ke did have complimentary things um to say in there but Fran latched on to that first quote and like like you said and Chris said um he pulled a little bit of a Michael Jordan and turned it into motivation for his team and it worked Emily I'm continually Amazed by football is such a game that is fueled by extra motivation like not that other sports weren't we're making Michael Jordan references right he would you know make up rivalries sometimes just to get the juices flowing a lot of athletes do this but football coaches are so careful about what could be perceived bulletin board material and not just putting extra motivation on the table for the other team and Fran Brown had a warning for other opponents to come here as a result of how he admittedly made a mountain out of a mole hill this week from the Brent key comments let's take that's all I was taking about from 12 to 4 that's why I was very and you know me so it's a big difference when you know who I am and you com at me about toughness like don't do that I took this this game was very personal and then you know that I coach with Kirby smar and mus Chang so why would I be why would we not be a tough physical football team that's just what they do and that's what I about and that's where I was at and I did take that very personal and I want to make sure everyone understands that when you play us just be quiet so then that way we just going to go worry about us throughout the week don't give no ammo to me you give ammo to me I'm coming at you for to it was funny cuz Emily on Monday at his press conference Fran was like yeah he coached me and it seemed like all was well and it was going to be another reunion and they were going to you have hug it out at Midfield before the game like nine out of 10 times that's what you see between opposing coaches but once in a while there are personal differences here I remember you know when uh Greg shano and Greg Robinson of all people went at it and Scott schaer was calling out davo swinny so once in a while it does happen a perceived slight or whatever the case may be and it just adds so much juice to it and let's face it Syracuse needed all the juice they could get after a disappointing defensive performance a week ago you got a ranked team coming in to the Dome just anything that you can throw fuel on the fire especially when you're challenging your team to be more physical against the team that came in with the reputation of being physical the team that run over Florida State and runs the football and Brent key run the ball right and we just we heard so much about that I thought Fran played it pretty well here and I guess lesson learned don't give Syracuse any extra juice here and Emily before the game Syracuse actually put this clip on their Twitter feed beforehand so they do the quadw walk now and then they come into the Dome and when Fran got the team in the dome they showed footage of this on the broadcast too he was really fired up got the team in a circle and just you could just see the fire in his eyes and you know per the comments we just played and what he said at the press conference yeah he uh he was pretty fired up for this one here yeah well you know I I think Aranda gon's commentary on it too was some of the most like impassioned commentary we've seen from him and we've talked to him a lot over the past few years obviously but right like he was like Fran played that clip over and over I think he said over like five times just to emphasize how much that clip was played for them um that quote from Brent ke and you know like I I showed it you know some examples that they like the players and Fran threw out about kind of like the toughness and out physicing them were those fourth down conversions um I believe laquint L Quint had one zed Haynes had another um L quint's long run at the end to ice it where he made the very smart move of going down to make sure the clock was going to go keep y running out instead of taking it to the end zone or taking it to the sideline um just again like we'll talk more about the run defense how that was a little bit more locked down but I think all in all like you don't look at that game and say Syracuse isn't tough so no no one can say that moving forward here's that clip from OG by the way so we had we had seen that message that he sent uh Fran kind of felt the way about it until he showed it to the whole team that we we we started to feel our way about it you know the type of coaches that we have you know he he think you know it's we ain't trying to be smart it's not about the exes and O's and all that that that we just want to come in and be more physical but you know he just kept playing that clip over and over and over and over and over at practice uh throughout the week you know he just kept getting it through our head so it looked like we was just a more physical team out there especially uh on that last Drive of the game making that big catch on third down and uh being able to get that first down with L Quinn on that run you know to secure to K OG was pretty excited in another clip about how Jeff Nixon was slicing and Dyson the defense and he slapped Fidel Diggs on the shoulder who was sitting next to him at the presser and my man right here look Emy Emily that was a big thing in this game the physical challenge but remember there's no Marlo wax out there so how does Syracuse adjust and become more physical and attack this Georgia Tech team that had the reputation of being more physical well Fidel spent a lot of time at linebacker they had a lot of three down fronts they did go 335 at times I saw 416 out there at times Justin Baron been a lot more time he's kind of got the hybrid role in that star position but you could he was much closer the line of scrimmage he certainly was playing more linebacker you talked to him after the game a little bit Emily did did he have the Green Dot and the communication and what did he say just about how physical things got and and how this team wanted to shut Georgia Tech down yeah he did take over the inh helmet CS for defense which Marlo had been on last game you know on Tuesday he had said he hadn't known yet they hadn't made that decision on who was going to wear that and he was like you know I'm I like maybe don't want it just because of it's like a whole other thing you got to pay attention to and it's someone else in your ear and all of that but he said he settled in and was used to it by the end of the game and did say it was a little hard to hear at times with how loud the Dome got especially I'm sure on some of those third and fourth Downs that we saw but he got used to it and he should be the one weing going forwards and I think he he makes the most sense right like he's been in this defense um or he's been with a lot of this Personnel on this defense obviously not in this scheme but yeah that's the Green Dot and the inh helmet conss um the digs playing back I think was really interesting this was something that I had I think mentioned to you and Chris earlier in the week when I had gone back and watched some of the defensive tape from last week was that they they played Diggs in that linebacker spot a lot last week when they were in the red zone right and that was one of the best places we saw Syracuse's defense last week was in the Red Zone like they forced several field goals there instead of letting Ohio get touchdowns so to see him play that more um out in the field against Ohio I think was great just gives him a little bit of a quicker path to get back behind to the quarterback and just a more direct path and so he's usually in that middle position with either Baron and McDonald or like Baron and herd or McDonald and herd kind of around him and you know Baron did say that he and McDonald spent time with Diggs this week just kind of going over a little bit more like what's it like to play off ball and obviously he's a very intelligent guy so he got it pretty quickly and then they were just kind of helping him smooth out some of the little things but um I I expect we'll see a lot more of that at least through Marlo's um eventual return Sometime Late in the season if not even past that Fel a huge fourth down stop in the fourth quarter when Syracuse really needed it and look let's be honest here Syracuse is a 3114 lead in the fourth quarters they were certainly improved on defense the Run they allowed 112 rushing yards to Georgia Tech you'll take that every time against GE Tech considering that team has just put up huge numbers on the ground they made strides but Georgia Tech was able to make this a game and and there was some nervous moments here and you saw uh fingers furiously changing game stories up in the Press Box if you saw us and you know you're writing two different things I I got two different leads it's either Syracuse holds off Georgia Tech and a furious comeback or disaster strikes at the Dome and Georgia Tech overcomes this Haynes King I I he made some big plays in this game in the fourth quarter and the one thing with Marlo being out Emily for the most part Syracuse passed the test they made the adjustments Fidel made that huge play but there were some moments like hannes King's second rushing touchdown he had two on the day for Georgia Tech simple fake and then he's got nothing but green ahead of him now I'm not saying Marlo ax wouldn't bite on that but if I'm a betting man I'm going to bet Marlo doesn't bet bite on that and at least challenges H King a little bit more on a play like that so I think you saw a lot of little things add up for the defense although they made a big step from week one to week two and Diggs was such a huge part of that but still some stuff to clean up here we have some comments from our Syracuse Sports insiders and we'll get into it but maybe the bye-week comes at a good time even though it's week three because while they've shown some things maybe they need to calm down a little bit and really focus on some of the things we're going to get into that they have to improve but Emily one thing that certainly does not need Improvement but we'll certainly see how high he can take this thing man Kyle McCord it makes such a big difference when you have a legit true blue qb1 and this is not hyperbole folks Kyle McCord is one of the best pure passers I've ever seen in a Syracuse uniform and I've seen him for two games he has the numbers to back this up he's the best pure passer I have seen in the pocket since Ryan Nassib and he is the first Syracuse quarterback since Nassib now this is in 2012 to have multiple 300 yard four touchdown games in the same season and he's done it in game one and game two one of those games was Ohio but the next is a top 25 team in Georgia Tech now let's be honest Georgia Tech didn't have the greatest defense coming in here but Emily he makes every throw it's on the money there was one throw he made to Amari Hatcher today I'm like I I haven't seen a Syracuse quarterback that can make a throw that's in that small of a window consistently like that we saw Little League Kyle he's out there running around he had a career high 15 yard 16 yard run out there and he spikes the ball on the sideline there was a clip of MC that we were watching uh when we got back from the press conference that somebody caught I I I wouldn't even repeat it here on the internet frankly but he had some words about what he was seeing out there and man mcord is just the real deal we know that after two games I think as a Syracuse fan you got to look at this and say he was worth every penny we're in the nil era this is what you have to do you got to go out and buy quarterbacks and what Fran Brown's gonna have to do Emily is gonna he's gonna have to add a little caviar to that champagne that he's going to send to Ryan Day for allowing Kyle McCord into the portal and here to Syracuse it has just been I don't think unbelievables the word because I thought McCord was good but no one had this if I if I had put this out there like after two games this is what he would be I think even the the McCord family be like I don't know about that he's he's got to ease into it a little bit but he has been Fant fantastic yeah you know I think what stood out to me today is it just like Kyle felt like he was feeling himself like he felt like very confident like he he had a lot of like swag to him just like in the way he was presenting himself on the sideline and obviously that that run and the spike there like that felt so uncharacteristic for him um and he did say he was like I probably shouldn't have spiked the ball we're really lucky we didn't get a penalty there for that um that would have negated it but he just seemed so confident in himself and that's not to say that he hasn't always been but it manifested in a really different way than we've seen it throughout fall camp and I'd argue probably even then people saw it maybe at like Ohio State last year like he he was just so like out there and like exuberant and like really relishing this win and you know I think that's because he has a coach who is in his Corner no matter what and you know Kyle's been pretty shy about sharing a lot about what went down at the end of the Ohio state run and and any Fallout between him and and Ryan day or anything like that but just hearing the way that he talks about Fran that Fran talks about him there's something there like when you have someone that is in your corner that hardcore it it makes it easier to perform like this and he Kyle has everyone on that team in his corner like this and today he had his little league coach coaches in at the game with him today U not with him but at the game um four of his little league coaches the Little League coaches that also coach Duce and Dennis too this is all in nine months that's what really intrigues me about this he's not somebody that built up and took over the job and was the air apparent to somebody this is nine months he parachutes in he forms the relationship with paa and Gatson and two new receivers and Meeks and hannes that have to come in you have to establish a trust with the guys that have already been here here particularly ogu another huge day today with 93 yards a onehanded stretch out uh touchdown that he had that's what's incredible to me is mccort see I always look at it this way I want to know what you're doing in the third and fourth quarter that first drive he was decisive but those are the scripted plays right how confident do you look when you're out of the scripted plays he looked more confident as the game went along every play he knows exactly where he's going with it we can nitpick on does he lock it on this receiver that receiver I think every Quarterback does That a little bit but I have not once seen Kyle McCord get back there and get the sense of he doesn't know what he's doing here right I mean plays break down that happens but he is in full command and control I mentioned how pure of a pocket passer he is and one of the best I've seen at Syracuse and with the bye coming here the hype is going to build on this guy and people love a good story Emily you brought it up the guy comes from Ohio State brings Syracuse to where they are now if they're going to knock on the door to get in the AP pole Emily's an AP voter so we'll talk about that coming up here in a few minutes I was an AP voter and I kind of know how that process goes this is what you signed up for with Kyle McCord and it is literally a term that I'm going to use but also philosophically in a way he's worth every penny he's worth every penny for the Syracuse offense and Emily I don't want to bring this up on September 7th but I'm going to bring it up because I'm going to be kind of I'm I'm going to become a little obsessed with this you might have 10 games left with Kyle McCord 11 if they go to a bowl game right which at this point they're they're well on track to do what are you gonna do after this guy is it a freshman is it Jakari Williams I know I shouldn't jinx it but that's life in college football these days but some Syracuse Sports insiders made a great Point like if anything what he's going to do is enhance the transfer market for some guys out there like oh wait a minute if mcord can come in and do that at Syracuse I can come in and do that at Syracuse so one way or the other uh he's going to make a huge impact on Syracuse football overall not just what what he's going to do with this team on the field this year yeah that's an interesting that's an interesting take about the transfer portal um and and what impact he might have I mean obviously like we say it's nine months he does have the history with a lot of these guys outside of football or in football but outside of college football so that like makes it a little different but there are a lot of guys that are like that that have connections at other schools and know coaches and stuff like that like football for as large as it is as it is is a very small community and everyone knows someone at different schools and and all of that and um so yeah that's an that's an interesting thing to consider and you know I am also intrigued to see the three quarterbacks that Syracuse currently has in stock there behind probably when we get to that Holy Cross game right that's when we're we're thinking we'll see some M Johnson J some Carlos some Jakari Williams maybe even Kyle McCord 32 of 46 381 yards four touchdown to he was just four yards away from entering the top 10 he just missed out on it again last week it's because they took away a 44 yard reception that he had this week he just couldn't quite get there so 515 total yards of offense for Syracuse and one thing that they really did well today and certainly laquinn Allen helped this on the running game for on Emily but time of possession you're playing a team like Georgia Tech you want to keep the ball away from them as much as possible Siri held the ball for 36 minutes and 52 seconds Georgia Tech 23 minutes and 8 seconds today so we mentioned certainly mcord and some things the defense has to work on here there was a big black eye on this game frankly and that's special teams Syracuse had two kicks blocked a field goal and a punt in the first half I can't recall ever seeing that in in one half maybe it's happened but it's definitely happened less than five times that I've seen in my life right onside kick Fran Brown took full responsibility for this in postgame he said you put this on me right they didn't have the hands team in positions somebody that was out there to block tried to get the ball the ball didn't travel 10 yards but that doesn't matter because it hit a member of the receiving team Georgia Tech hops on the ball right so you had two block kicks you had a special you had a on kick recovered and you had the kickoff to lead off the second half go out of bounds so James volo's got a lot of work to do in the bye and special teams matters okay that's the little brother of free throws matter special teams matter you flip the field field position points what if that field goal it's a three-point game okay that block field goal if Georgia Tech goes down and kicks a field goal to tie the game and go to overtime and win all that adds up and matters here so that's why I I brought up that maybe that by week comes at at a good time for Syracuse here if you think it's a little early it's like now you got two games of film and you know what to address and attack and honestly that special team stuff you can work that out you can get better at that and they're certainly uh they gonna have to clean that up going forward here because you don't want that to cost you a game yeah and I I I would argue there's a little bit of a clarification that I I don't think it's the specialist faults like I don't think it's Brady or Jack's faults that their kicks got blocked there like I I'll have to go back and and look a little closer but that is more the people around them than either of them themselves if that makes sense like and you know what Emily I should know Georgia Tech Georgia Tech had four block kicks last year they were like sixth in the country so like they're good at this so to be fair yeah they they know what they're doing and you do get fluke games like that right that's colge football it's you get a fluke game where there's two block kicks and on like near concurrent or not concurrent but back toback drives um so yeah I I they'll get that worked out I would I'm sure you've been asked this question a bunch I have so I'm gonna throw it out there oh boy should treor Peña be returning punts with the success he's having at wide receiver I think a lot of people are like hey we don't want him getting hurt on special teams my answer is yes because a is's good at it and B there's enough Fair kicks Fair catches I should say that guys football you're going to it's it's look it's a rough game you can't take them off punt returns because he might get hit or might get hurt right now there's a few other candidates maybe you can put out there Malachi James has that speed he's been on kick returns though we don't see a lot of Kick the kickoff has just become a dead art in the whole sport of football right uh I get it there's a few other guys maybe you can slip out there but I I don't think that's a that's a deal breaker to take treor off punt returns because he's emerged as a West Welker Julian Edelman type on this offense right well and would it not be an insult to trebor's toughness if you were like no we gotta pull you because they're hitting you really hard like if I was Trevor I'd be like no now of course like again I I agree that you rotate people in there and they can probably do a little bit more of that but they're not going to pull Trevor off punt returns like that's his that's his thing that doesn't feel very Dart to take somebody off of returns for that reason Emily let's hear from the people Syracuse Sports insiders uh you guys were fantastic again during the game sending me texts I was sending you texts and thoughts about what was happening not only pregame but during the game and certainly some postgame festivities as well and I wanted to highlight some of the things our Syracuse Sports insiders had to say including Matt D who says the future of Syracuse football relies on mcord being great need to become a destination for transfer quarterbacks to come make a name out of themselves as we were saying a little bit earlier there Jack W says I've been watching the Q since the middle 1960s this is the most complete offensive team they've had since then as long as they stay healthy there are no holes and he adds this McCord is definitely their best passer ever McNab with his legs may have been a better quarterback but even that's debatable the defense made good strides much improve against the run but still still work to do all right so both Jack and I are are are are older guys right big May Day Emily the tape was floating out there the other day uh it was the anniversary of the Syracuse Tennessee game in 1998 when they just let's not go back to that ridiculous Will Allen pass interference call but there was a throw that McNab made in that game when he got flushed out of the pocket and threw it it seemed like 60 yards with a flick of the wrist and made a huge play so Jack I love you my man and you've been there and you have done that and I said Kyle McCord's one of the best pure passers I've ever seen and I can say that after two games but McNab could chuck it and he could chuck It On the Run and he he was the second overall pick in the draft for a reason so McCord still got some work to do to get on that level but hey credit to what Kyle McCord has has done so far here Steve says in the end these two games are an ideal start for the Fran bound era you're unbeaten but still a ton of work it allows the players to feel good while knowing there is much to do Emily we I don't know if you asked anybody about this after the game I didn't ask specifically about the biow week because there's not going to be any U uh FYI guys there's no media availability next week is typical during a byee I don't know I always feel like the answer is always yes about when the by we comes that it's the right time some might say it's a little little early but based on some of the things that we've talked about that they have to clean up like maybe a week off's not such a bad idea right now just to kind of hit the reset button a little bit I I think not and especially there's two by weeks this year too so they get another Buy in mid October which is probably the more like appealing the more appealing time to have a buy right is in the middle of October than in early September but no I think you're right is that they they come away from two games they are feeling good but they also very clearly have things to work on you know Justin did say he's like this was not a perfect game we let them claw back to a three-point game in that fourth quarter like we need we can't let that happen next time like that cannot happen later in the season so I do think it'll be really beneficial also just it's an early chance for them to get healthy again not that they're dealing with like a ton of boo boos yet or or hurts but the first couple games of a football season do kind of bang you up a little bit just naturally so they get to take a week off from that so I think it's good timing um and obviously then coming out of that stretch like at coming out the buy the next stretch like I think we're easily looking at they could they would don't be five and0 in another three four weeks like when they finish up with UNLV and then they go into more ACCC play I'm Having OE flashbacks right now in the timing of I was trying to distinguish I was trying to distinguish that these I wasn't saying like people are injured I just mean that like yeah you ice up you need to ice up after your first couple games from David who says would you uh I would like your take on only rushing three to go to the defensive side of the ball he says he hates it way too passive if you give a decent quarterback unlimited time to throw he'll find somebody open got to put pressure on the quarterback I don't know I I'm going to give them a little slack on that this week considering the adjustment they had to make on defense they're still trying to figure out the defensive line and Fidel Diggs did a little bit of both today he made some great stops in the backfield he's your primary pass rusher but you needed him in the middle so I didn't have a huge problem with it today philosophically I agree with David but given the spot that they're in right now I'll I'll give them a pass on that what say you Emily yeah I think so too I mean it's about game planning for your opponent and they knew they need to stop the run and the better way to do that was to rush three and have um digs on that second level and last week they got pressure in the back Field playing with more of the the four down front and when Stanford comes to town in two weeks like they might be back to playing more four down front like I I think that's just a game planning thing and we'll we'll see them go back in back and forth on that couple more from our Syracuse Sports insiders Jeff a says Kyle McCord's the best pure passer I've seen in Orange since I started watching this team 30 years ago he also notes this first time all season that Browns inexperience showed was on that onsite side kick recovery he'll learn from it but special teams is this week's quote week one run game and as we noted Fran took full responsibility for that and something that they'll clean up in the by week and one more here uh shout out to Randy who says felt like Syracuse had control of the game for a lot of it the last touchdown was big special teams he deems it a train wreck at this point they have time to work on that kind of stuff but the defense did look uh most uh much improved in this game capping off our Syracuse Sports insiders ladies and gentlemen we go to the bullpen and I would like to remind you that uh both Emily and I listen to these and you of course but I do not screen these ahead of time that's how much I Trust Rock and rot to bring the noise so we're all hearing this for the first time first time together let's hear what rock and Ron had to say about Syracuse's 3128 win Over Georgia Tech Brent and Emily Rock and Ryan in Florida just went through my second tube of oxygen here after that game holy macro although I will say the defense looked much better than it did last week my man digs boy had a good game that fourth down stop wow what a gem what a gem uh tackling still need needs a little help matter of fact both the king's TDS were off Miss tackled but I think they going to get much better even so and the offense can't say much more than what a super job they did they all did it was a team effort on the on the offense although one little blemish was never saw Bard bardi drop two passes but he dropped two he did end up catching one but uh but he like to see him get back in the game too so but it was nice to see him catch one but uh as far as the Special Teams I called them my cardiac kids oh my God I had thought I was going to have a stroke there well on that I will say score shouldn't have been as close as a was but I think each week we improve little step by step got a heck of a teen here so until next week sa you Mo later there he goes the legend rock and roll I have a couple thoughts on this first let's let's go ahead and read off Fidel's stat line just because it got brought up and we haven't referenced it really yet but he did lead Syracuse in tackling seven T seven total four solo two tackles for loss so that was good performance by him and um shows the value of moving him around and using him in different spots Baron and McDonald followed him so that kind of whole group had a really good game um the the close score you know it was close but Brent we were both pretty close in our projections you came out on top because you were the only one of us to project that Syracuse would win over at syracuse.com but we were both in we were both in range in terms of the numbers for sure yeah and both of us you said in your prediction you could have easily seen your score flip the other way and we both saw this kind of game coming right I felt like the offense had to lead the way the defense had to do just enough Bend but don't break make some improvement do a better job on Georgia Tech in the Red Zone which you know that was kind of mixed results as rock and Ron said a couple Miss tackles there allowed Haynes King to score but they did enough to make it that kind of game right I I felt like this was one of going to be the most prototypical fourth quarter type of games who's got the ball last kind of thing and as you noted earlier L Quinn Allen did a great job icing that thing OG with a big third down catch and Syracuse gets the ball back and prevents Georgia Tech from getting that last possession to do it and boy Rock and Ron's going through oxygen tanks he's having a a lot of Health elements going on in this one but uh look is somebody once told me Y is a very passionate Syracuse football fan he said Syracuse Athletics is going to be the death of me and I am fine with that right that that's the investment you make in your favorite sports team it's not going to be that for me it's going to be that football team in in the NFL that I root for that starts their season tomorrow and I'm surprised they have not done it yet but uh they're still trying they're still coming after me we shall see go bills even though it's against my better Mental Health most of the time one more thing before we go so Emily is a an Associated Press top 25 voter I have been an AP voter in the past and I'm already seeing the questions Emily me too you're probably getting them already as well yep is Syracuse going to be ranked when the new poll comes out now I'm going to go ahead and say no but they certainly will get votes and the best way into the poll and remember Syracuse did not get any po votes in the AP last week but the best way inss to beat a ranked team I guess the question is Emily what what kind of credibility is Georgia Tech have as a ranked win considering how things have played out here right it it's interesting being so early in the season because like you can kind of argue now that like the best way I can put it is that if Georgia Tech had the two-run span that it did later in the season it it would not be ranked right now like if it had beat Florida State and Georgia state by those metrics like it would not be ranked because Florida state was like Florida State's unranked now you know like it's just it it so weird at the beginning of the season because everyone's kind of looking at really small sample sizes half of your schools are playing FCS level opponents or um lower the group of five opponents that you're like okay well is it really like how do you really judge Syracuse versus Ohio and like that score or all that um that said I I I do think a Syracuse vote would be justifiable that's not me committing saying that I'm voting for Syracuse I have to go over everything that I've missed today and watch some film and I know we're getting lots of live comments that listen Emily like a coach gotta watch a film now that's fair though I That's What You Got You Gotta Be You gotta be thorough about these things yeah getting lots of comments about the the Northern Illinois upset of Notre Dame so like stuff like that actors in um Notre D Bowling Green almost knocked off Penn State today what is there was there was a lot today there a lot Arkansas Arkansas and Oklahoma State went to overtime Oklahoma State's ranked um I will say for a little added context I did have Georgia Tech a spot lower than they ended up in the actual poll so like I I go off of my rankings in reference to what their ranked overall as well but um that will influence my vote a little bit is that I had them them we're down at 24 instead of 23 but yeah you know I think someone will um whether it's me or a different person I think we will see Syracuse in the appear the receiving votes um section on Monday and you know they've been getting votes in the the coach's poll whether that be Fran's Vote or another coach's vote we are unsure about but they are getting a vote every week in the coaches poll so definitely will be interesting uh moving forward and seeing that a little bit but um keep out Mond day you'll you'll actually know if I voted for them before if you are a subscriber to my newsletter because I will pop it in my newsletter for Monday morning my vote will should be submitted by then um or finalized by oh it will but um you'll find out a little bit more about fantastic Monday sure you guys subscribe Emily's newsletter comes out on Monday mornings go to syracuse.com newsletter to sign up for that you can check out my Syracuse Sports newsletter for syracuse.com subscribers that comes out Thursday mornings as well so we are going to a bye so things will slow down a little bit it's not like we're not going to have coverage for you we're just not going to have the usual reaction to Fran Brown's press conference and player interviews and things of that nature because we're off they're off next week we don't have usual media availabilities but I'm curious to see what you just brought up the votes in the poll the hype that's going to build around mcord people start to wake up to syracus I saw a lot more former players chirping on Twitter than usual positively right Dwight frainy shout out to him as they retired his jersey at halftime and even the legend he's right over my shoulder here Emily oops other shoulder Derek Coleman DC in The Press Room was in The Press Room so you're seeing more figures coming back they're buying into what Fran Brown is doing and by the time uh we arrive to the Syracuse Stanford game on Friday night we'll see uh how the hype train is chugging along here for Syracuse football in the meantime for Emily lier I'm Brent ax thank you for checking out our Syracuse Sports postgame show presented by Krauss Health the exclusive Healthcare partner for Syracuse Athletics we will catch you next time guys have a great rest of your weekend
