the CHT is 350 so that's uh clearly uh a bad probe and it's it's jumping between 130 and 330 so it's a bad probe I have spares in the shop um right now we're just going to ignore it and go by the uh ti so um we're heading direct to Oakland has see if their weather popped up yet Waypoint weather data okay here we go yeah they're overcast 800 temperature 16 to14 so we're going to get the approach so main what are we going to do here we're going to go in and we're going to load what I think we're going to get is we're going to insert before solol 5000 or 4000 enter and then for Oakland we're going to add a procedure which is ILS 28 right Julia fting Z Vector for sequencing one ner0 3 Julia and we can go direct to if you like 190 heading will be gold 3 Julet 3 J Roger n0 okay just let them know that we know that he knows that we know so if we were to go direct to solol good morning Del it would be a heading of 187 so it's damn near the same thing but he said heading of one 9 to Zer so pressure and 1800 RPM fuel flow 22 gallons an hour 4 miles per gallon and our tis are 1540 1550 so that tells me that that missing tooth for the number four EGT is just a bad probe so we're going to ignore that we got plenty of fuel on board we got 166 gallons might be doing a dog rescue tomorrow and that's what we're doing turn him back up so I mentioned it I have no idea we put the trap out little bastard just uh wasn't either there wasn't there I don't know VOR for your CL so I'm trying to get ready for the uh for the IFR kind of a hectic morning 13 Char departure radar when in doubt climbing refer to your checklist let's do the ILS checklist just a moment just a moment I'm completely operational and all my circuits are functioning perfectly load the approach Che breath the doing the heading that we had the AIS at Oakland and that uh I have the ILS set up so he didn't have to ask me anything else like say type say destination say altitude none of that stuff so that's good now I know anticipating 2535 next we're going to put that in and for Brandon in Vegas beautiful Viva Las Vegas Ro rolling in beautiful Vegas uh I'm going to try to demonstrate a short field landing and we're going to see in Oakland uh how far taxi way golf is uh I think I have time now let's look it up so we got charts we got Airport diagram okay we got 28 right okay so so here we got Hotel looks about the halfway point it's a 5400 foot Runway so if hotel is half and I'm sorry looks is halfway that's 2700 ft golf is probably around 2400 um we'll double check that maybe while I'm editing the video I can get the exact and measure it I don't have uh I heard you say that initially and I heard one way to do it Trac down and dirty here's a down and dirty way you go to Roberts no he doesn't have enough paper left in there nice going Robert you got about four sheets left all which one are we going to do what are we going to do what are we going to do okay let's take a pen let's take this okay from here to here is the full Runway 5400 ft so if you fold it in half right about here is halfway so golf's about 2,500 ft Runway so we're going to try to stop by golf taxiway G taxiway Golf and the way that I'm going to do that or hope to do that is we're going have the power settings down to what our normal 2100 and the props at top the green but for a short field we're going to run a little bit less between 1,700 and 1900 depending on 17 in and 19 in depending on uh some factors and for the rare occasion we're going to ease the props All the Way Forward okay so now we got these 96 in diameter propellers 92 96 almost 8 ft I think um are going to be nice and flat and give us a whole lot of uh stopping power and then of course full flaps VOR TFR that block Big Time 5 I'm going to go ahead and cancel that Stockton uh Landing I'll be landing here a private airp number 720 r w which airport are you going to uh it's a private air just uh east of uh St 7 Roger just stay with me I've got jet traffic climbing opposite direction so uh just continue on that heading and I'll terminate Services as soon as you're clear okay I'll be look dude get get off the frequency all right um we're not going to use speed brakes for this demonstration and just continue on PR and maintain 7,000 7000 we came into Oakland oh earlier this week they were reporting 500 overcast and it was 400 overcast so it's important to be you know locked into your Jil maintain 6,000 6,000 3 Jil it's good to be locked into your um jul localizer Glide slope localizer Glide slope we're going down to 6,000 here 206 across the ground uh true air speed good 2535 have a good morning 3 okay now we're going to tell them same thing we're still on that [Applause] heading head3 [Applause] North jul direct to Nagy that's the part I missed we're heading to there now 3 okay so you ask Nagy direct bingo bango change it to GPSs okay what's Nag's Crossing 4,200 we're at 6,000 so we can anticipate getting lower 5000 5,000 three sah Juliet there it go just like I thought 5,000 and going down so let's look at that number four with the EG EGT is bad CHT is perfect and the EGT is reading 99 not happening it's just a bad probe looking for traffic I just happen to have some on the Shelf have the shop come over and SW swap it out okay let's do our Papa gums here below 5000 for now pressurization check air conditioner I'm going leave it on right now it's still warm out here it's 80 outside so air a conditioner prop syn never had it on auxiliary pumps on gas on Mains cross feed off so we got papa gumps is pressurization air conditioner prop syn auxiliary pumps underc Carriage a gas underc Carriage mixture props speed so we're at the gas next to be undercarriage the gear we'll get that as we get a a Glide slope intercept we're going to level off your 5,000 you when there's low IFR you know you I'd like to let the autopilot fly it down 800 is not really low IFR but we're going to let the autopilot fly it and we hand fly it I can hand fly it too but this time we're going to let the autopilot do it and when I get Grove at 3400 I'm going to plug in 3500 in the pre- select so you get a buffer you know like the Godfather family had a lot of buffers you know we get a buffer of 100 ft no 2535 I think the tower is going to be next 183 jul maintain 4,000 40003 s Julius okay so we're going down in the increments now the reason why you you're thinking you know you you were at seven he gave you six then he gave you five now it's 4 uh how come he just didn't tell you to go from 7 to 4 well the reason for that is you can't see it because we're out far I'm not going to turn right out the window maybe I get a picture of my phone right out the window is Mount Diablo what's the top of Mount Diablo 3840 ft judging by the pollution content of the atmosphere I believe we have arrived at the latter half of the 20th century you might be wondering Nag's at 4,200 he told you to go down to 4,000 isn't that below Nag's Crossing but the MVA for this area is less than 4,000 there's another one of those buffers an extra buffer there between here and nagby but now it's important to stay on that altitude soag at 4000 clear apprach nag at 4,000 clear approach 513 sh Juliet 28 right thanks we're heading direct to nagby we're on GPSs it's going to turn Us in then we're going to so the ILS checklist says take it off GPSs and arm the approach that'll be coming up should we ID the ILS sounds like [Applause] it i o a k the I is for instrument approach first all right we got the advisory Diamond here it's in Gray it's grayed out because we haven't activated it yet and we're going to turn here in about 40 seconds if it doesn't we have to take it off autopilot and hand fly it here comes the turn he said 4,000 at Nagi there's Nagi right there we're at 4,000 okay we're going to take it off CD we're going to take it off GPSs and arm the approach there we are here's a Glide slope see if we capture that there's a turn on the localizer GPS flip so NE is 4200 that's why we're below the Glide slope but we told we like to get a VR to Hayward the localizer 28 left waiting for the Glide slope to capture one alligator and one Mississippi there it goes Glide slope so now we're going to ride down Glide slope localizer Glide slope localizer Glide slope turn off the air conditioner part of the checklist so there's Grove is supposed to be at um 3400 so we're looking good there just above the Glide slope by half a DOT that's good keep producing power we're going to sneak up the uh props little bit of the time 18.3 have a great day hey thanks a lot uh 3 S Julia Tower 183 talk to you later yep Tower good morning Gold Eagle 53 here Julet checking on on the ILS 28 right 3 Juliet Oakland Tower Runway 28 right clear to land clear land 28 right 3 Juliet so now we're uh really going fast we're going 180 which is indicated which is faster than the gear speed so we're going to pull it back to 8 1 1800 in 18 in of manifold pressure and we're almost at uh Kusa so we're going to we're in gear speed here comes the gear and we're in flap speed first Notch of flaps okay gear three green so that's the undercarriage part we're still localizer Glide soap localizer Glide soap little fast got a h with a four even though we're indicating 154 we're cross the ground at 144 so and I expect that to change as we get towards the ground a wind check please when 29er Z at8 thank you so that'll also affect the short field attempt all right 2,000 going down to 207 all right so we're going to recheck the gumps gas check underc Carriage got greins mixers up props are going to be up here soon normally I put in flaps at minimums but today because we're demonstrating a short field landing and that would a short field Landing would be what's just across the bay there at Palo Alto and San Carlos they're in the high 2000s mid 2000s also okay localizer Glide slope localizer Glide slope ignore the Garin pilot that put put in we're above Blue Line about uh what five five knots above blue line is perfect and you can see uh we're on glide slope localizer and glide slope and we're on the approach on the chart so we're all good there this does have the current chart it just hasn't populated to the 600 we feel a little slow but we're just we're still doing 111 across the ground indicating 111 and we're still above blue line which is fine now what I stress when we fly is to fly the vazzy or the papy especially if you're going to an airport Bakersfield velia Fresno Chandler that has obstructions okay 800 780 taking it off autopilot now so I get a feel for this short field landing and we're on the Glide slope and I'm also I can see outside the window now airport sight I can see the two red two white and we have some room here in the uh air speed so we're going to go ahead and go full flaps right now you don't do it all the time but you ease the props All the Way Forward on a 421 if you want to do a short field Landing that's what we're doing now we're putting the props All the Way Forward okay and we're going to stay on the uh papy on the vazzi on the Glide slope and we're going to kind of drag it in a little bit slower than normal we're indicating 80 and indicating 92 here 90 is fine I mean we got red line is 72 on this bird so you might want to put a little bit of power in when I call when I say drag minimum there's your minimums so when I say drag it in you know I like 90 something in the 80s is about all I'm comfortable with so I'm still on the look outside still on the two red two white got three green full flap every is fine all good so now we're going to put it down on the runway that's pretty smooth now we're going to stop put the brakes forward simulating short field I said we we stop prior to golf well there's Golf out the front window and we stopped before golf go go 3 Juliet a right turn there at taxi way Golf and say parking 3 Juliet we get off of golf and we're going to Porta Port uh do you know how many uh what the length is from the threshold to golf here on to it right for 3 Julia you can and start the left turn and taxi VI charlie delta down to the Porta ports and standby for the uh Lan okay great thanks we're going to the Porta ports with you three s Julet okay so she's going to do my math for me I'm going to guess it's like 20 to golf is like 2550 maybe so let's see so I easily put it down no speed brakes the only thing different was Julia from taxiway golf to the departure on 28 right I'm showing 2,500 ft thank you very much three sir jul have a good day all right as I thought 2500 ft um so that's your short field approach and to that I say thanks for riding
