welcome back inside the Gamecocks the show built by the Baro Co and presented by our friends at Resto pros and the South Carolina Education Lottery Phil JC myself JB John Strickland who is elected to use his video feed this week and of course our favorite redheaded stepchild who none of you can see because he probably forgot that we were on the air again but he is here he is here believe it or not that blank space down there is not Taylor Swift it is and we can hear him driving down the road yeah we do we do BLU somebody somebody's got to work and pay pay the bills man I can see y'all but you know he you know air airpods are uh airpods are Money Mike when you're driving that way we can't hear everything in your car man hey I don't have the airpods but I got the you know those what's the the uh the skulls beats or what let me see if I can figure how figure out how to work yeah there you go figure it figure it out while we're on the air that won't cause any technical problems uh at at all right Josh Brown is coming up in a little while as well really can't wait to get Josh in uh 20 years ago these two gentlemen and Josh and Mike wrath and Troy Williamson and a host of others of course went up to lexton Kentucky on a c night and after 10 turnovers combin between the two teams this group won Mike wrath threw a touchdown pass to Troy Williamson in the back of the end zone in uh Lexington and Carolina 1 we've got a little special remembrance of that that we'll get to here in just a little bit but Josh kicked two big field goals in that game to give South Carolina a 60 lead that they held on for quite some time so we'll talk a little bit about that but um all right John we'll we'll lead off with you man look Carolina trying to get to two and0 they're also trying to get the first win in the history of the SEC that is 16 teams if they win tomorrow they'll have the first win ever in a 16 team SEC which would be pretty neat of course um but they can't do it unless they can score points and last weekend quite frankly they couldn't score points they did get the ball down the field and and it didn't look good but there were times when they got the ball down the field and then once they kind of got in or near the Red Zone they just couldn't push it across the goal line your thoughts on all that well i' said it a few weeks back uh I thought the defense was going to have to carry us other early in the season with the Young quarterback and the offense having to Jail uh I like what Lenor said you know he said hey I was you know maybe a little over excited uh maybe rushing myself uh during the game while sitting back in the pocket and uh you know I agree with him I think it showed uh so hopefully he got all those nerves out last week and uh you know tighten things up a little bit better this week but uh uh you know that defense last week was an awkward defense I think I even talked about it last week but uh Kentucky I mean they're front sevens for real so uh we're going to have to we're going to have to man up and and block some people we're gonna talk to you much more about that Mike I was gonna bring you in on that real quick go ahead brother yeah I was gonna say look I mean you look back kind of kind of you you take a step back from the old from from Old Dominion and you look at exactly what strick said like you know the defense is going to have to carry carry us early in the season with with a Young quarterback and but you look at Old Dominion old Deion had 56 new players on that roster so you can look at scheme but it's very hard to game plan around a the you know the Personnel of that defense it's hard to attack weaknesses of of a defense that you don't know the Personnel so you know once I took a step back and looked at that you know Old Dominion very well could have a dang good football team by the end of this season maybe maybe not but early in the year it's hard to scheme and game playing around a bunch of uh you know a team that you know nothing about really the the the personnel with guys coming from all over the the United States but and and going forward you know I I loved how you know we put we did put a lot of of high expectation on on Lenor Sellers and I think with social media and everything else like it just it it magnifies side it and we still got to remember this kid's just a red shirt freshman but you know the the way that he spoke in the interviews the way he own it and took put everything on his shoulders just goes to show the maturity level of this kid and that you know game one to game two is usually a huge jump I think strick said that La um at one point but that's where you see a big jump I think a lot of people have said that but you know seeing how he owned it and spoke about it was just was was really was really nice to see and you know I think have some stumbles but um I just really liked his the way that he handled all of it Mike some things we'll talk we're gonna absolutely here just a minute get much more into the specifics of Lenoris we we of course every week get a chance to talk to Stephen we get a chance to talk to Perry we get a chance to talk to Pat um and all three of them collectively said you know yeah if he if he can calm himself down a little bit you know his decision making is going to improve in a hurry there were some drops Mike will start start with you the wide receiver position uh there were some balls that that probably should have been caught there's no doubt and there were certainly some times where he kind of scrambled out of there and and there are some guys who probably should have taken a different route to go get open uh there were also guys who were just running open and he didn't see them uh but overall it's a it's just a totally revamped wi out room collectively so what you what' you think about those guys I mean I think those guys are going to be all right there's a lot of new guys out there playing a lot a lot of guys who had necessarily played in that type of environment and we talked about it last week it's kind of coming out over amped and just overhyped up and when you do that you tend to kind of you tend to lose focus a little bit and you tend you tend to just go out there and run and and and over I guess kind of overhyped and that's that's where the drop balls come in that's where the the the missed assignments come in mistakes and so I you know it's it's tough but I think those guys getting that experience in Williams Bryce seeing how electric it is the atmosphere and all of that I mean you know it was a lot closer game than everybody wanted but I think going forward you won't you won't see that as much and I think there a lot of teachable moments in that game that coach Fury has probably really harped on this week but I think that's the biggest thing is is those guys their first lot of's first game and Williams Bry and you tend to get overhyped and and it just those kind of things happen when you when you lose focus it's just the M assignments you know missing blocks Mi missing blocks out there that really could have sprung a run you know could have sprung the running backs or um lenorris even even farther but you know even for lenorris out there you know his first true test as being the starting quarterback really just kind of calming down and going through his reads and not not seeing the pressure but feeling the pressure and just stay in the pocket for that Split Second longer to be able to go through the progressions and you know knowing him and seeing how he is I think you'll see that get better and better as the course of the season goes on um you know there's going to be some some times where he gets a little over ansy to get out of the pocket but I think at the end of the day as the season on you're going to see him kind of stick in that pocket a little bit more um as he gets more comfortable throughout the season John look Lenor sellers you just said a minute ago I know I've been saying this I don't think that makes be some sort of profit that was sent down to earth from up above you know this defense was going to have to carry the offense to to to win football games especially in the first quarter of the season um you know that being said we are expecting the offense to do a little bit more but it just can't all be on the back of Lenor sers or Spencer Rattler or anybody else you put back there you you bring a guy like rocket in for a reason he got a bunch of carries last week and probably knocked the dust off and we I think we all expect him to run incredibly hard this weekend but I don't think that there is any way that this defense that this offense will do anything at all unless they manage the front seven of the Wildcats and that starts with Dion Walker and that is where we're going with you uh one of our one of our Carolina jackpot players presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery this week is old number 53 Vera Lee talk about what's on his shoulders this week not just from having to actually play well as the center and as the leader of the offense but also from a communication standpoint and what they're going to be doing to stop that guy and as Jay as JC pointed out earlier the Weaver kid they got a bunch of guys up there that can play yeah I mean obviously it all starts with the center making the calls and Mak sure everybody's on the same page uh I think when you have really good Big D tackle like number zero uh I I personally like Zone Zone runs against those kind of guys because you get those guys flowing side to side when you're running zone and the running back can cut off you know a Zone play is really wide open you know that's why it's called a Zone the offensive lines working one way in the zone the running back can read and then stick his foot in the ground and come back on the backside or Break It Outside uh so I I really like Zone runs when you have a especially a guy like that I also like some some pins and pulls uh with a guy like that as well uh but yeah I mean the offensive Line's going to have to be on the same page and you know I went back and watched the game already twice after seeing it in person too um I mean for the most part o line played pretty darn well uh there some of the sacks were miscommunication missed assignments um you know I can two of them pop off right off the top of my head I'm not call anybody out but two of of them were were missed assignments 100% uh but that's just stuff you got to get cleaned up and the communication is part of it getting cleaned up um so I mean they're good Le let's be real um I mean I think what number zero is probably goingon to be the first uh first draft pick uh at the defensive tackle spot in the upcoming draft so uh you're gonna have to figure out something to do with him you need to you need to chip him as much as possible without getting hung up and getting on linebackers you need to just try and get a good quick double team chip on that guy and get up to the linebackers and just punish him as much as you possibly can I JC you're probably about to say what I'm almost go ahead go ahead I back I was going to say uh Zone Reed too and running on the perimeter uh big guys like that you get them going horizontal and they they they're out there all day running all over the place they they're more Compact and explosive yeah players than than than maybe great athletes they're great athletes for their size but they just they don't play they're not basketball players that that shuffle their you know go sideline to sideline a lot they're their little burst of energy and you're get to running a marathon and sometimes they wear out and ky's got depth but they don't have anybody like that guy I mean you're right so would would you think that off of those inside zones that that's maybe maybe they stack it in there crash in there if Lenoris pulls it because they are a man they play primarily man coverage and I think from what selller says that it's a lot of one safety one high safety so you drive the corners off with your receivers you mean and it's open I mean sellers still be running he'll run I I thought about that JC and sorry guys I've been sick all week so you have to bear with me a little bit but uh uh I don't think you're going to see the dn's commit and crash down as hard uh because of sellers into threat now yeah that's good that's a good thing uh because if you don't have that DN crashing there may be a little sliver right there on the back side of that uh Zone where there's a little hole and you sneak right through between all your blocking and that DN kind of Frozen there weight making sure Lenor sers isn't pulling that ball so I think that's an advantage uh with having a a running quarterback like Lenor sers uh so yeah I that's that's that's what I foree and especially with the defense they play I mean because if that DN gets out of position and lenorris pulls that ball I mean that's a free 10 20 30 40 yards right there yeah you you saw it last year too strick I mean you you look at some of the some of the games we had last year with you know Rattler not necessarily being a running threat and not really running the ball a lot throughout the course of the year you saw those defensive ends crashed a lot harder and really squeezed down and and really squeeze the hole on those zs on on those runs not allowing the running back necessarily to to have that to have that cut back Lane because there wasn't necessarily that threat and that's where that's where that cut back Lane comes from is the quarterback having that running presence to keep that defensive end split outside a little bit more to to keep contained because once you know once that quarterback gets outside that end it could it that's those those are big plays so that defensive end's main job is contain on those zones when that defensive end is able to squeeze there there's no cut back and that's why we didn't have a whole lot of success with that last year as much as I think we can this year let me ask y'all both this and then we we'll hit a timeout and switch it to the other side of the ball um what did you John I'll start I'll start with you here what did you think or or did you think that there was anything that could have been done early in the ball game to help Lenor sellers kind of calm some nerves a little bit kind of find his find his Groove out there I would have liked to see I listen I didn't go back and count exactly what play was run I just mostly watched the offensive line because that's what I wanted to watch but I think a good thing for a Young quarterback is to get some quick rpos a little fake hand off play action and just a quick little you know five yard pass you know or I don't know get him rolling out the pocket and hitting a tight end coming across for five yards eight yards um you know I just um I I think we're going to see a little more receiver screen uh this game maybe uh just with Kentucky likes to play a lot of man uh so if you can get a hat on a hat out there I mean it's helpful um yeah but I just I want to see him get some you know shorter quicker passes get the guy in the Rhythm get him comfortable and uh let's just see what happens but go ahead Mike yeah I say not game I love you know I love quick game and I haven't had a chance to really go back and watch much of the game but just speaking you know just from personal perspective is that a lot of times if you can get the ball out the quarterback's hand and get them into a rhythm it's really big in in in in getting those sustain it's really big in building that confidence and really seeing seeing the field clearly and and and and not you know not necessarily you know your head feels scrambled and jumbled just trying to stain a drive but a lot of it also has to do with having success on first down and being in you know second and short second and second medium second short not you know not not predictable down in distances but I you know I love the uh the quick game stuff or or get him outside the pocket on uh you know play action bootleg get him outside the pocket to give him a little bit of that run pass you know if if you don't see anything throw it but you know get him outside the pocket be able to see the field pretty clear but um um you know those are just some things that I like with with with young quarterbacks just trying to get them into a rhythm and get them into a group early within the game so they're starting to feel uh you know feel it the game starting to slow down a little bit to them and it's not so it's not so fast and just coming out of you know 100 miles an hour you know one more time before we hit the break something you don't see as much anymore which I love doing it when I played is we used to have a lot of quick game all right well what we would do is we would line up in shotgun and then when we snap the ball we act like we're going up the pass block and then you just chop those guys down to the ground uh that's a good thing because you get the hands down you can uh a short you know quick uh slant inside uh and it slows those really good defensive lineman down because they don't like getting cut at the line of scrimmage so it makes them hesitate so I wish we would see some more of that but you I don't know why it is you just don't see much of it anymore but it actually works I agree too yeah I remember watching that that was impressive the defensive linan don't like get hit in the knees man you got to protect the assets shut up all right we got to hit a timeout oh we got to hit a timeout when we return we will switch it over to the defensive side of the football and uh and then Josh Brown will join us at about 145 or a quarter till two for you Clemson fans it means the same thing everybody hang tight inside the Gamecock the show presented by Resto Pros we'll be right back you want listen the better they are the less uh Photoshop I have to do uh stri don't do I once found Michaels sleeping in the back of my truck at the Mount Pleasant Christmas parade I was about to go home dude nap dang man all right a ride I was ready to go home yes you were all right um let's let's flip it over uh Mike we'll we'll start with you since we're giving you a bunch of crap man Even though even though you do deserve it um you know number six last week really popped but boy the number five too those defensive ends you know that they have been the topic of conversation this week and they deserve to be man I will tell you watching Dylan Stewart is is is I mean the the way he gets off the ball along with the bend that he has at his size you're not going to find that you're not going to find that a lot of guys you don't see a lot of guys that are that are that big as true freshman that can bend like he can but that are that are and that are as explosive and Canard was impressive too I mean those guys played well rushing the passer those guys played well in the Run game and that's a that's a huge huge quality as a defensive man is not just being able to to rush the passer but also being able to set the edge and really being a force in the Run game and that's what those guys did a dang good job and it's just it was it was fun to watch that defense fly around and just and just play um you know a couple of the Buster coverages things like that are going to happen um you can't let them happen to the extent they did with the explosive plays that that happened behind it but um you know you're gonna have that happened throughout the course of the game but those guys played hard I was really impressed especially with those two at the defensive end position and you know that was one thing I did not expect you know you always get these transfers that come in and you get these true freshman that come in and the expectations are through the roof and so I really tried to temper the expectations with those guys and you know really starting with just being able to get after the passer put pressure on the quarterback collapse the pocket and then play well against the run and and maintain Gap Gap responsibilities but man it was fun to watch and that just you know our that defensive end room is deep but the way those guys got after the quarterback not just you know you know not just bull rushing but using technique using fundamentals and and it was just it it was impressive to watch we we got a really special defensive end room I believe John you were in all SEC Center offensive lineman at South Carolina you know how difficult it can be to protect your quarterback and move the football down the field when the guys outside are doing what they're doing so what does that provide the Gamecock defense well you know I wasn't blowing smoke uh during fall Camp during our talks I told y'all I'd been out the practice went to the scrimmage and KY Canard was uh you know turning heads out there and I think I think he showed it last week and then Dylan Stewart still going full speed about three feet off the ground coming around the edge I mean how do you even do that I just I don't know I mean that's God that's god-given ability right there yeah but yeah I the defense to me played very very well uh you take away two plays the miscommunication on the busted deep ball was at 74 yards or something uh and then you take away the 34 yard touchdown run where if you go back and watch the game you see it we brought a blitz with some twist you had a d tackle and a linebacker in the same Hole uh holding that Gap when the D tackle should have been where the quarterback ran through and it's just it's one of those things some miscommunication or a busted play so you had two of those that equaled what 109 yards 108 yards uh for for their offense and both were touchdowns you take those two away the defense holds them to 100 what's that 190 something yards for the entire game and uh there's no scores there even though they probably kick a field goal there well no they went for it on fourth down so um I mean just things like that so like I've been harping on I think this defense has a chance to be really good got to clean some stuff up uh but uh I'm super excited about uh what we have in our front seven we've been talking about I and those mistakes are those those are those are coachable fixable things that doesn't come down to talent and that doesn't come down to to just not having the personnel which is which is great to see you know a lot of times when you come into these first games and you start you get you give up big plays touchdowns it's not necessarily A A A misassignment or a mistake it just comes down to your personnel just not being as good as the others but that's not the case here is and we got the personnel and these are fixable things which is which is you know I say it's it's a positive because you know you're not out AED you're not out talented you got a you got a special group over there Kentucky comes into the game with quarterback Brock Vander 12 of 18 last weekend 169 yards three touchdowns a pick against Southern Miss interesting enough all of last year when he got in the game which was very rare of course down in Athens he was 12 of 18 for 165 so 12 of 18 last weekend for 169 which is kind of kind of nutty it's a it's a little bit different though this year you know ky's top guy went down at the tailb position Demi Sumo Kay I believe is how you say the last name the transfer from NC State is their is their top back and Brock Vandergriff we know will pull it down and move as well but but they really like their white outs and they should barion Brown Dane key and Jamari Jamari mcklin are all really really good guys uh so it's a little bit different um Carolina feels good about the secondary and and what they can do to cover um so John but we'll we'll start with you and and we've been discussing this defensive line for months around here we we knew how well they they could play the front seven for Carolina the linebackers haven't even mentioned those guys all played very well last weekend a lot of speed moving sideline to sideline they were making tackles didn't miss a bunch of tackles but with a Kentucky team that likes their white outs how helpful is it to have these guys try to put some pressure on Brock Vandergriff uh he he is very capable of making a mistake or two if you can just make him move yeah we we need to get pressure on him big time I think and our our D line is better than their o line let's just there's no there's no two ways about it uh the defensive line and the linebackers are going to have to have a hell of a game this game uh and listen so Southern Miss is not that good all right uh Brett Fab's not back at quarterback and who all these other players they have they they're not that good of a football team so you know I've been seeing all these Kentucky fans how they're just going to blow South Carolina out well hey may maybe they do but uh you know they they didn't play a very good football team last week so I'm glad they feel all warm and fuzzy and stuff but uh they uh Southern Miss defensive front seven has there nothing like the one they're going to see uh tomorrow tomorrow afternoon in Lexington so uh I think we just got to put hell of pressure on him and make him make mistakes cuz where our offense is at now I'm hoping it gets better which it usually does um you know last week you know was one of those things first game uh but I think the defense is gonna going to need a turnover or two in this game in positive field position uh to help the offense out this week uh for us to win the game um that's just the way I see it going so I think those front seven guys are going to be huge this this coming tomorrow go ahead Mike yeah know I'm right there with you I think the one thing I think is is is so special about this defense that we haven't had in the past um necessarily is you know since you know like the Clowny days and Devin Taylor and quars and traan and all those guys is that we can get pressure on the quarterback just by rushing the front four we don't need it to to Blitz a lot and uh you know bring a whole lot of crazy different twists and stunts and all that that could potentially get guys out of position now you still want to do those kind of things but if you can get pressure on that quarterback without having to Blitz a lot of guys that's a that that that that's huge for a defat guy like coach white that can do a lot of things behind those guys as far as coverage um as well and when you can get those guys and when when when a def coordinator is in very predictable downto distant situations it makes his job a little bit easier but it's it's also nice to have that flexibility because you do there's times where you do need to bring guys you can't be predictable and just bring four all the time but it gives you the flexibility to be able to to Blitz guys and in situations where you wouldn't normally do it to keep you know the other you know the the opposing offensive coordinator on his heels to not you not knowing what to expect and when when when that's the case it just it it makes for a long day for that play caller not knowing what's coming so I just I love the fact that we got a front four that that that we can get pressure on the quarterback we can collapse the pocket um without having to bring a whole lot of pressure and stretch those guys in the secondary thin because you know once you lose a guy in coverage somebody else has got to make up for it so when you can keep those guys back there and pass coverage responsibilities and close those holes back there it makes it easier on that on that secondary and it's hard to throw into that kind of stuff yeah and Mike you say we got a front four actually we got about 10 to 12 guys who I feel comfortable with all of them so true yes yeah real quick on that we got to get to a timeout so we can get Josh and him but real quick JC said something earlier this week I 100% agree with him and I'm I'm not a qualified person to make these decisions so nobody's going to ask me but I'll ask you to uh DeAndre jwes when he was in the game last week man he really looked good man he looked good and J said he expects him to see more stats and thinks he uh uh I'm sorry expects him to see more snaps and thinks he deserves that what do yall think I totally agree I think uh between him Boogie TJ and U um oh man I'm having a brain part here Tonka Tonka yeah between them four they should all get equal reps that way they're freshest can be that's just my opinion on it I think they all should get the equal amount of reps so you're looking at all of them maybe getting you know 25 to 28 plays and then you have your other two D tackles who I feel good about too to come in and you know take a take five to eight steps you know somewhere in that ballpark Goodwin played last week too goodwine I ni yeah 44 play but what got me with Jules John was like you look at his production he had 19 snaps five solo tackles yeah a blocked extra point and a fumble recovery uh now he did fall down on the touch down but like you said that can happen to anybody on a Twist like that yeah that that was just bad luck and you know so and you gamble I mean they gambled on that play they sent six Michael was talking earlier Michael the day that I think Clayton white just dropped seven the whole game I don't know that Clayton White's coaching the defense that that dude loves to dial it up man like you know almost almost too much sometimes but uh I think we will see that people wondering why they play off the receivers sometimes I I don't think they do that too much but the thing is is the other team when you are playing off they're going to call that play and execute it sometimes and it seems like they're playing off I I haven't noticed Carolina playing off their receivers too much under Clayton at all but maybe I'm wrong you know no I like that I like that yeah JC I hey having that flexibility is nice not doing it all the time now yeah yeah boy I tell you that I was I was like yeah I was like I was like that I was like yeah maybe they should just you know maybe they get pressure with three who knows and just drop eight like a barri Odum defense against Mich Leach but ah no way well you you go back yeah I want say like you go back and look at some of those Clemson defenses that were really really good under Brent vinales and what they did I mean it' be you know it's first and 10 and you know those guys six or seven guys you know five six seven guys it seems sometimes and they're just collapsed in the pocket the quarterback's got no chance so it's it's it's nice to be able to have that flexibility where you know you can do it and the defense may not necessarily be expecting it at times so I just think it gives coach white a whole lot more flexibility um in his SCH I agree because the minute you you're showing Blitz and then you all of a sudden drop Brock Vandergriff doesn't have that much experience he very will just throw it right to your linebacker and hey that's a good good play you know so yeah good good good stuff I know we got to get a break yep we got to you got to run to a break but I will give you a quick update uh these are of course available publicly now the student athlete availability report it is improved for South see each other last weekend at [ __ ] condo that would be Michael for those wondering who [ __ ] is uh Josh Brown kicker for the Gamecocks has been kind enough to join us and two of his teammates uh today to pick some games talk some ball what's up brother oh not too much how y'all doing did you get the did you get the kids down for a little nap um not not not really but it's okay I got him entertained while I broke away hey that's the Fest stay-at-home dad and all Columbia Daddy Daddy Daycare hey so you real quick here before we get to these last 10 minutes you're doing something really really cool man uh with Limitless fishing Brands tell people what you what you're into yeah so about a year ago I started a fishing tackle business and um my business partner and I have uh done a lot of uh development of new fish floors and stuff we have manufacturing set up in China and Costa Rica have a bunch of different product lines of different baits that Anglers can use so you can check us out at Limitless fishing brands.com man it's it's awesome it's a great website your pictures all you look great by the way just thanks man he got you front and center right there um so we'll make some pict here in just a minute Josh um but but quickly I I want to look back on 2004 just a second because you had two big kicks in that game to win in Lexington um but speaking of kicks last weekend Alex Herrera takes over the kicking job this game this weekend absolutely could come down to who makes the most field goals uh how do you think he he performed and and especially being his uh getting his first start on the road up there against the Wildcats this weekend yeah no he performed great I know that there there's always a lot of question marks with a new guy coming in you know first year first start he performed really really well and um looking forward to what he can do this year uh I'm excited about him yeah I am too he's got a big leg that 46 yard he kicked last weekend would have been good from well over 60 so you you kicked a couple in 2004 and we put we put this together early this morning uh John of course played on this team Michael Michael did you play or were you what did you do was he was he carrying water what was Mike doing there he played left out uh no Michael of course was a very valuable uh very valuable member of the football team as we all will know for what mik used to back in the day Mike used to rip the first team defense up on Scout team now hey if it was was a young one he could play there's no doubt Michael Michael deserved to play more than he did at South Carolina we all know that um but you three went up to Lexington as part of that team and uh and and and it was really pretty ugly game 10 combined turnovers it was cold as crap and then Josh you got the first two to go through the uprights and then Mike and Troy took care of business at the end but we put something together to look back on that before we make our final picks here today uh this was 2004 lexon Kentucky South Carolina and Kentucky Saturday evening here in Bluegrass Country right now it's 50° but Brad we know it's going to get a lot colder by the time these two teams get Going's going to be spotted right in middle of the hash marks the kick is up it's got plenty of leg and it is good Josh Brown from 43 yards with plenty of distance to spare here you know you kept him in position to get a good field goal here and I thought a very heads up play by Blake Mitchell what amounts to an extra point in distance 20 yds Brown kick is up and it is true so Josh brown two out of two and that's the only scoring of the night thus far Carolina six six Kentucky [Applause] nothing I don't know if I've ever seen a drive quite like this there has not been really a big play by most people's definition in this drive and yet they've marched down the field this will be the 24th play un unbelievable unbelievable uh you know that's a quarter of the snaps most of the time or more than that a qu that you're going to play in a game a an entire game 24th play of the drive up the middle and it's a touchdown for Kentucky well here we go detman the lone back Jame [ __ ] come out and a three wide formation white side at the bottom of your screen Cory Boyd working the slot he comes in motion BR looking deep downfield rolling out throws it up in the air and it is caught touchdown Troy Williamson What A Catch leaping in the air in the back of the end zone oh my goodness 19 yds and Carolina takes the lead what a pass What A Catch what a [Applause] comeback you you it's tough to go into's over folks Mike wrath has become a hero here in Lexington leading the Game [ __ ] to the winning drive and a 12-7 triumph over the Kentucky Wildcats as the coaches shake hands near Midfield I think a lot of people would take 12 to 7 tomorrow what do y'all remember about that night outside of the final score and what happened there at the end yeah it was uh it was a cold one uh I didn't actually start that game because I didn't practice the whole week before because I got hurt the week before so I didn't practice the entire week and Coach Hol was like well you didn't practice so we can't start you so I went out on the second drive for the offense but dandell was hurt that game so we used Blake svel raft I mean we used everything we could it was just a defensive struggle yeah I mean we we took I think we had a series where we took on one of those Feld goals Josh I think we had like a 10 to 12 10 a 10 playay drive that went down but ended in a field goal and so it was kind of a lot of that saying stuff just up and down methodically but just not a lot of score yeah that was probably that second one right they made it six nothing Jos yeah yeah I remember wrath being the Savior man I was so happy for him he uh just had a tough career you know and it was finally good to see him have some success and get some play time and uh really happy for him you know my field goals are nothing he he made it happen at the end of the game there man it's nice to have Troy Williamson be able to go up and get it too but he that's a hell of a throw running out of bounds like that that is a hell of a throw all right yall ready to make some picks here and then we'll uh we'll let Eric Church take us into the weekend how's that sound do it sounds good we've got we've got five I didn't put Clemson in here can we'll we'll all just collectively pick out state to win is that cool you good with that boys all good yeah I'm good with it they're definitely going to cover we've all I'm with you 16 and a half they're covering they're covering so much they're going to win by 16 all right Josh let's let's start at noon uh you're third these will be these will be quick picks we only got about five minutes here but we'll start at noon you got Texas you got Michigan you got the big house and you got the longhorns' seveno favorites on Fox I'm going with Texas I think they're a great team this year hard to against that John uh Texas all day um I I I see Texas winning by two scores uh Phil has sent a message of course he's not on the screen right now handling things from back in the uh in the uh Ops room uh he has gone with the Longhorns as well Mike yeah I'm gonna go with the longor too Michigan lost a ton last year I think has got a good team I'm go Texas JC Texas s proed they're man enough I'm going to go with them to win the game but uh I think Michigan will cover okay cover the seven and a half still like it got down to seven I would not take that seven and a half cuz I'm thinking it'll be a dog fight back and forth Michigan uh Texas a score touchdown late to win Texas wins Texas covers all right John we'll start with you on this one are you are you going to you going to go with the fighting Sam pitmans to pull the up upset at uh Oklahoma State yeah you know I want to but the team they played last week just didn't tell me a whole lot uh so uh from what I know from Oklahoma State and Gundy I'm going to take them to win but Arkansas covers the seven and a half how about you Mike this is a tough one it is it's tough with the between those two but I you know I'm gonna I'm going to stick with the home team and I'm going roll with the home conference and I'm going roll Arkansas I you know what this has Bobby patrino written all over it man something I was totally against this and then last 24 hours I'm in I'm going with with the with the with the fighting motorcycles they they pull the upet this weekend JC it's not going to be close um Oklahoma State's going to blow them out of the probably like 21 points all right that means Aransas winning Arkansas played a high school team last week yeah they did that's why I said there that may have been the worst I thought the worst football team was Charleston Southern in 19 I'd ever seen But Arkansas P Bluff was a little bit worse what do you think Josh I'm gonna go with Oklahoma State I just think they're too good I hate going against SEC I always want to see the SEC yeah Prevail but uh that's where I'm rolling all right will the SEC Prevail in this one Michael Tennessee NC State 7:30 the Mayo classic in Charlotte tomorrow night I'm I'm going Tennessee I don't think that's even gonna be a question uh Josh yeah I'm going to Tennessee too I just don't think they've raised their standards up to SEC football play yet at NC State I'm not saying all ACC type schools but yeah Tennessee Jason JC hates Dave Doran for anybody who's asking yeah look I'd beware if I'm AOL fan I'm a little little skeptical like you you got you played Chattanooga last week right I like NC State I think they've been preparing for this game all year but uh Tennessee's got too much offense it'll be back and forth Tennessee will pull away and cover John yeah I you know I think it's probably going to stay close early uh um MC state has a really good quarterback uh but I just like Tennessee's overall team more I'm I'm gonna say Tennessee and they cover uh Phil has got Oklahoma State and Tennessee I've got Tennessee winning and covering and then finally and this is where Phil comes in this is where he's big time for us we've got South Carolina and we've got Kentucky tomorrow night introducing this year's Carolina jackpot $5 scratch off ticket featuring a chance to win up to $200,000 you can even enter your tickets into the second chance promotion step on the court for a chance to win 5075 or $100,000 this pal Meadow series let's show who really runs this [Applause] state Marcus L more go to Rice touchdown he caught it in traffic side Jeffrey got Str and a touchdown down can you believe it and Garcia break the give [Applause] all John Strickland Kentucky is A8 and 1 Half Point favorite tomorrow night does Carolina take care of business so it's dropped eight and a half yep H interesting um man this is a tough one I'm not going to lie to anybody obviously I'm a homer uh but I'm G to go game Cops 24 Kentucky 23 JC I said all week I wasn't going to pick the Gamecock I don't pick them but that's how you feel and it helps us swim yeah so I'm gonna go with uh you know I don't want to ruin the Mojo here I think Kentucky 24 Carolina 16 but don't be shocked if I'm completely wrong Michael is about to get off the interstate for anybody that's told everybody where he was sh don't tell anybody gotta keep Phil taken Carolina in an upset 27 uh to 24 I I I I have looked for every reason to to to pick South Carolina this week and right I haven't found enough I'm going to stay with what my gut tells me which is Kentucky uh because of something silly finds a way to win this game and Carolina's going to have to even up their SEC record next week against LSU Mike or Alexa you know I know what the name is um I think this this defense that we have is salty and and they play hard and they're tough and I I don't think we've had a defense like this in a long time and defense defense travels and I I I really like this defense but I think like we've said before the offense and and and just from a team perspective can make a you know usually make a big jump from game one to game two and I just I I I think this team is different I just think this team is different and I think we're going to see a big jump from game one to game two and I think you see a big jump in Lenor sers and just his comfort level with this offense and and not being too up uh too overhyped or you know maybe nerves being there so I'm g go I'm gon go Gamecocks 2420 and finally our uh guest of the hour and of the week and our friend Josh Brown Gamecocks by a field goal come on smoking like a true kicker that's right hey Josh hugs and hand pounds to you and your family for making time for us I look forward to seeing you maybe next weekend over at Mike sounds good you're the man brother thanks all right see you guys there you go game c kicker Josh Brown special thanks to Michael for not forgetting about us this week and we're always appreciative of Big John we we know Big John's uh he do forget big big John is as trustworthy and reliable as they come you know I'm coming through yeah we can always count on you so is Phil glad to have Phil back on the screen here uh wonderful work today and throughout the week Phil thanks for all that you do thank you I appreciate that man yep go get yourself a bunch of drinks we know that you're you're anxiously waiting to do that and JC we love you big guy I'm remind everybody too of many years around here where the opener has been one way and the second game has been another look no I mean man yeah look the we'll go back to 20 22 Carolina only scored 35 against Georgia State but only 14 came on offense the next week was a shootout at Arkansas uh 09 73 at NC State 4137 at Georgia hey I got a great one for you I got a great one for you uh my year 03 we beat UL la la 14 and then we came out the next week and beat number 15 Virginia 30 to S yeah yeah and threw a 99 yard touchdown yeah and everybody thought Virginia was going to kill him cuz they the year before this is what's special about this sport y'all it changes so I agree hey don't be surprised Carolina beats him pretty significantly hey Carolina 2010 we were beating getting beat 17 to nothing we didn't play a great game then we won the East that year I mean I don't know what's going on a good point forget it I'm way off Carolina 50 to nothing tomorrow against Kentucky 50 to nothing my point is you just you just don't know what's going to happen it's it's to too early oh yes you do all you got to do is read our chat box come on Josh you better than I'll tell you for three hours what's going to happen we got we got two that have just been putting nothing but you know garbage in the chat box all week and I understand that they're upset i' be they want combin combin score was 82 to 23 Kentucky Kentucky scores 41 points tomorrow yeah I'll tell I'll tell you what I'll do that in favor of the game CCH Carolina wins 82 to 23 all right we got to get out of here John Mike thank you guys JC always and a pleasure and always wonderful to see all of you we will be back on Monday at 11 as always inside the Gamecock built by the Baro Co we'll see you then sounds good
