[Music] hello welcome to podnos this is a sport show with a little bit of Southern flare I'm Daniel Hawks that's Jared Roser and today we are going to be going over a game by game breakdown of the LSU schedule Jared how you doing good man I think I'm feeling a little bit better today than you are look at you why are we even bringing it up like I the people can see that I'm hurting all right and I'm not doing well I uh I I had we had a I'm in a dart league here in Chicago and we had our end of season party last night and there were free drinks uh so I I'm a little worse for the wear but I'm here and we're gonna make it work uh how this is gonna work we're gonna go game by game and kind of just give you our thoughts and feels on each game of of the LSU schedule do we think they're going to win do we think they're going to lose what's going to be their record at the end of it we will find out by the end of this P's episode um so let's get into it uh do you have anything am I just reading off the schedule it's not likeed or whatever or did you I I was going to there will I mean we're gonna do as you guys saw Graphics Galore uh we're gonna do that again this episode uh I I I'm the host I'm the one that doesn't want to talk as much today so I will I will let I will say the name of the game and then we'll we'll kind of go into from there does that work for you Jarrett yeah so you just wanted General thoughts I well I I also didn't know how to start for a second and then we were there and then there's dead air and then I you know dead air so so look setting the stage overall Brian Kelly's third season we've talked about it before there are expectations for him given his track record of success in his third season at a new school there's obviously a lot of expectations watching what other LSU coaches have done in their second and third years of of success in purple and gold and so it feels like a pivotal year the program has been a 10- win team each of the last two years under Brian Kelly I think in a lot of ways a little bit ahead of schedule in his first year to win 10 games beat Alabama all those things and so a lot of eyes on this team this year particularly as we move into folks saw our college football playoff draft the expanded 12 team uh playoff system where there's an opportunity for the Tigers even without potentially winning the SEC maybe even without being you know one of the top two teams in this expanded sec to uh to still make the playoffs and so expanded SEC expanded playoffs a lot going on and a Tigers team that has expectations of being involved you know in that top group in both capacities uh conference and Nation I love the fact that it's not uh years pass for you know I think the entire college system that we've known you lose one game and you're pretty much kaput I love that this is going to give more teams the opportunity to get in there and maybe a team that that did falter early on in the year uh has an opportunity to still still play for a national championship which is you know I think why a lot of these guys do it or uh at least to to make their Mark and and and uh and get an opportunity to play for something bigger than themselves so uh we'd love to see that for LSU but you know let's get into it first game USC September 1st in Las Vegas Nevada um USC already tried to back out of this game so I'm definitely not gonna pick them like but let's just let's just get my pick out of the way Jarrett what do you see from this game yeah I think stting this season I put little notes of some of the the biggest pivot point games throughout the season and it starts right off the bat with a huge nationally high-profile matchup two teams that you know both laid claim to the same National Championship 20 years ago and we finally get a chance to see these guys on the field and the thing that worries me as oh okay wait hold on who raised the trophy in 2003 was it USC no it it wasn't fusc look we there's there's no debate on here of who was the national champion I the the Tigers W claim yeah the Tigers won the National Championship in 2003 the Trojans did claim a national championship that year though whether or not that matters I claim that bad pits my brother doesn't make it true all right did you say did you say bad pit did now I did say Brad Pit I I will in the editing I'll figure out if I but now I'm only going to call him bad pit anyway yes LSU won a national championship USC tried to claim it the same year I think as we we just saw in in young Daniel's eyes as I said that they both laid claim this has ticked LSU fans off for two decades and now we we finally see these two teams on the same field to start off this season a lot of attention on a national scale out in Las Vegas the thing that worries me is LSU has lost its first two openers under Brian Kelly has not started the season well they've done a great job of rebounding from that and still having great Seasons but for some reason week one they still seem like they're kind of working through a lot of miscues and sleepwalking at times and so I hate that I hate that that's happening as you now head out west along long trip and everything else going on this and you have a lot of question marks for this LSU team particularly on defense to answer and so it'll be interesting to watch how much better hopefully they start this season come out of the gates than they have the last couple of years all that said I I think this is the year they finally get on the right side of that learn from some of those mistakes come in to the season a little bit more in in Rhythm after what I think has been a really strong Camp overall and start the season one and0 for the first time under Brian Kelly I hope that happens obviously I'm going to hope we win every game that I say this I may make us you know undefeated I we we'll see as we as we get through it uh I do not want us to I want us to quit scheduling good teams the very first week that we play the first week that LSU plays it it's happened the last two I I get I understand you want that high competition but I think there's something to be said to like maybe if we would played Nicholls the first week which is going to be the next game that we're going to and you do you're able because you are just so much better than uh a a Nicholls a you know a Michigan Eastern State whatever it may be uh you're you're able to get some of those wrinkles out before you start to play that high competition instead of trying to figure that stuff out in real time which I think especially in that Florida State game we saw on full display last year of of this LSU team trying to find its footing for almost the entire game and you can't really do that when you had someone like last year a Florida State team a bigger Nam team that was gonna go on to not lose a game that was gonna go on to have an amazing season um I think there's something to be said about preseason and and college football having that first lower tier game is kind of a preseason type game yeah that's fair and actually I mean this week out at cun's um media availability coach Dez was asked about and talked about that some about just the challenges of essentially being the sport that has no preseason other than your own intra Squad stuff and you know what what that means and and ultimately as you as you said for a lot of teams the quote unquote preseason opportunity can be those okay a big team is scheduling an FCS to start the season but it's obvious I mean the Counterpoint to that is it's obviously a lot of fun to kick off the season with a huge bangang High profile game a lot of money involved in that as well and when it goes right as I was going to say it's it's great until we start losing as for L as for LSU it used to it seemed like more often than not go right I think back to uh to I guess it was 2011 that Oregon game where honey badger and Company just beat the breakes off the Ducks um out in uh Jerry world and that was a great way to start that season third episode in a row mentioning waterbirds I'm very excited about it yeah this is this is a big big Waterbird show is love it love it um let's move on September 7th LSU takes on Nicholls I think we can fairly say that that's going to be a w from both of us we don't need to linger on it then 11 am game with South Carolina your favorite get get an early start to your Saturday I hate it I like what are we Iowa get out of here like no I hate 11 A.M games and for good reason I've watched an LSU team over my entire lifetime struggle with 11 am games outside of that Joe burrow and uh Joe burrow Jamar and Justin uh Team um we suck at 11: am I suck at 11 am that's why I'm putting myself in this well no one is their best self at 11 am on a Saturday okay I don't I don't care who it is 11:00 a.m. on a Saturday is a recovery day hey people would argue you're on a recovery day right now at 2 pm on a Thursday so yeah we we know watch but at 11:00 a.m. I was recovering harder than what I am right now I'm at least functionable right now which is not a word but oh man I kind of just want a curse jar just to throw it up there but I'm not gonna do so as worried as you are about how you start that morning are you worried enough about the tigers that you're saying go on the road I am I I I think that this could be a little bit of a trap game especially I feel if they come out hot and take care of business versus USC they have that nickols game I I think that this could be a potential early L um I'm not gonna pick that I'm gonna pick a w but I think it's gonna be a rough game to watch yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it is kind of in in L start to a game and it takes them a quarter a half to to start to feel a little bit more like like they're snapping into it they we've seen that you you mentioned in years past with some issues with some of those early starts um not not always they they've had um you know some exceptions to that Dynamic and whether or not they stumble a little bit early at South Carolina I do think they pull that thing out and improve to three and 0 heading back home for the night little home stretch of the Season yeah and hey at least it'll be 12 for them because they're in South Carolina so I do have to give that caveat because how time zones work so very good yeah next we've got September 21st LSU at home versus UCLA uh Flex kick off sometime between 2:30 and 7 because you know TV is the thing um I think we take care of UCLA very easily um as shaky as USC is on defense I think that the UCLA team is a little more shaky or along all parts as the as the LA counterpart um and I think we just have a lot more solid footing as a football team uh LSU does to take care of that game yeah it this game doesn't worry me as much as I thought it might a few years ago when it was scheduled and so I do like LSU's odds of of winning that game um and and kind of flexing its muscles a little bit against another big 10 opponent and then what do they they call 50 Cent is like king of LA or something like that I do Cent doesn't who dude is from Jamaica Queens I don't know why he's the king of La hasn't he lived in La for like I mean I would assume I would assume like most famous people that yeah you make the move to LA and you stay there unless you're Dave Chappelle and live in Ohio do the tigers lay claim if they can beat both USC and UCLA in the same month of the season as the the Champions or Kings of Los Angeles of the real La the real La I think is absolutely if we're not if the LSU just uh I I would say as a school if if if someone in the up higher ups doesn't make a shirt for that I'll do it I'll I'll take the I'll I'll I'll take the you know I'll I'll take the burden of making that we are La something like that in purple and gold I think that's that's great can't get across your screen but up there we can on that Shopify up over your shoulder we can do that again wait hold on do that again oh wow this is gonna be great it's gonna be oh my God it's gonna be lovely wait you gotta get there you gotta I know I'm losing track uh next up southern south Alabama doing great uh again tuneup game think we're going to be fine there uh then we go into night game I will say don't don't Sleepwalk on South Alabama they've been a pretty solid team the past couple of years should not be the same level as LSU they've been problems for other teams within Louisiana but yes I agree when and at that point on my on my uh chart I've got him at five and0 I I yeah and listen LSU is gonna beat USA and I'm super excited uh October 12th first game of October where both Jared and I are saying that we're going to go through the month of September L she's going to be 5 and0 going into this what I think is the next pivotal game I think you would agree versus an Old Miss team that is very highly talented going into the season uh I'm gonna I'm gonna give us an L on this one um I think Lane kein uh I just think that offense is going to be a lot it's going to be a lot for this defense no matter how much better we think that they the steps that they've taken I I I'm going to take this as a first L um I hope I'm wrong yeah this is you mentioned a huge pivot point in this LSU season it's a huge pivot point in the Old Miss season this is one of the most pivotal games on the national landscape in terms of who might end up being a member of that 12 team playoff at the end of the season a couple of teams that are both top 12 or 13 ranked teams depending on which poll you're looking at and a huge rivalry game in mid October that could go a long way in determining the the seating at the end of the season it worries me an a an awful lot that old miss defense is much improved through the transfer portal or is expected to be much improved it's much improved in terms of the talent on paper I went ahead and gave LSU the benefit of the doubt to advance to six and 0 in this game I'm not overly confident in it but this is a matchup that last year I watched despite how horrendous LSU's defense was LSU still have a chance to win that game late um I'm I'm holding off on crowning Old Miss A you know a playoff team until I see a little bit more of it we've seen plenty of games through the years where the team in this matchup that is supposed to be on to bigger things at the end of the season gets spoiled by this rivalry matchup and I love that it's in Tiger stadium I I think LSU's defense will be improved enough and the offense will still be good enough that in what tends to be kind of a funky matchup they're able to pull something out at home I hope you're right that's all I'm gonna say next we've got the battle for the Golden Boot October 19th LSU is going to Arkansas I you know fjerry Jones so oh I'm giving us a w on that one print print that shirt Underdog um this is another one that it has to always to some degree be worrisome because of the chaos and funkiness of this rivalry matchup every year I don't think this is one of Arkansas's better teams by any stretch it doesn't worry me as much as the Arkansas game often does and so for me I pick them to win and advance to seven and0 if they've at this point you know lived up to what our what my expectations on this prediction show are for them uh so right now just a recap uh Jared you got us at seven and0 that would be lovely like I I hope you're right I have us at six and one right now um I I'm just forgoing the not saying us because that's where I am today so I I hope you're okay with that didn't even notice oh great great uh October 26 Halloween game the the the week before the week of Alabama we've got Texas A&M LSU is going to Texas A&M and uh this is going to be two Road games back toback we've got Arkansas as a road game and then going into Texas A&M I didn't give you a chance to hate on Texas A&M last episode so here's your here's your platform baby boy here here it is serving it up to you go ahead don't care for Texas A&M traditionally I don't put as much stock in them any given year as it seems like the preseason polls and National media and would not like to give them this year no exception to that I don't think they're going to be as good as some folks have talked about them finally kind of taking a next step back in the right direction I hate that it's the second straight road game for LSU I hate that LSU has lost three straight games in College Station uh including you know going back to that crazy seven overtime game that that really screwed up a Saturday night for me on what we were trying to celebrate as a St and suit night here in B why did you why did you even have to bring that up that was the worst that that chaotic night really seemed to I mean it didn't turn the Rivalry ma or I think it turned it into more of a rivalry matchup than it had been before that when LSU owned the series but it did kind of unlock something where the agies have now won the next couple on that same field the last last couple years and so that one makes me that much more nervous than that Arkansas game as as much as I don't have a lot of I would have given you a hard time if you put the Aggies in the playoffs I don't think they're going to get that done it does worry me a lot all that said at some point that three- game skid in College Station has to come to an end might as well if they're rolling if LSU is rolling the way that I have them rolling right now on paper think this can be the year that they get back on the right side of things and head into that bye 8 and0 great then we got that byee and then we're in our last four games a little bit of a gauntlet for the Tigers we've got that Alabama game as it always is uh first week of November um November 9th um I'll let you go here I I I'm gonna give us I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna throw a w on the board I just hate Alabama I don't have any reasoning I don't have a solid footing on why we would win this game but I think maybe Jaylen millero comes up with a couple uh couple fumbles couple picks and uh you know we walk out walk out of Tiger Stadium with a W and I'm doing this for you know most of the rest of the Saturday so yeah I mean you you want the equation that's part of it is getting after Jaylen milro with what should be a more aggressive LSU defense you look at an LSU team that in years where it it seemed as though they were supposed to be outmatched by Alabama that they're right there with the Crimson Tide and I mean neck and neck with them last year until Jaden Daniels gets knocked out of the game LSU was right there with a better Alabama team than I think Alabama will have this year um Kaylin dore's first year at the helm how has the season gone to this point what's the vibe of that program like how much are people kind of at the neck of of the new coach and whatnot and how does he handle all of that now coming into Death Valley in hostile as could be territory and so that's that's the equation there yeah I I put this down as LSU's first loss I I I don't think they're getting to this point and being nine and0 there's there's too many question marks for me that whether it be an Old Miss or an Alabama or whatever I think there's somewhere where they'll probably slip up on my paper I put it as this one um to to end up falling to eight and one still being in great position on the season but um I I just feel like being at home being in Tiger stadium is just going to be the the biggest Advantage um especially with uh with uh the new coach uh kayin dbor being first time in the SEC first time in Tiger stadium that's a lot I it's literally the NCAA football game says the where dreams go to die and it's true so uh I I don't know if I don't know if that man can handle a RoR scale style event but we'll see I you know I hope he can't there's a definite equation there for LSU to win that game we saw it a couple of years ago under different circumstances when first year Brian Kelly uh is suddenly beating Alabama at home on uh on plays to a freshman tight end and so there's there's a lot of reason to be confident that matchup and I I hope you're right on this one the same way you hoped I was right on the Old Miss game I wonderful let's move on November 16th at Florida going to the swamp it's always hard uh I'm gonna as much as I don't want to say it I I it's it's hard to play in the swamp um it is it is a rough environment uh I was thinking that LSU was going to have around two losses this year that's kind of in my head and so where are those two losses going to come um I think you know I I I don't think this team with everything that they're going through the revamp defense trying to figure that out I don't think you can take out a a road loss it's a rough SEC schedule um so I'm gonna go with the second loss there at Florida yeah very realistic you mentioned going to the swamp going to the swamp the week after that game against Alabama the the week after the Bama game has has been issues at times for LSU in in the past decade decade and a half and so there's a lot to that equation I don't think this is a great Florida team but I think it's a team that has enough talent and maybe at this point in the season has enough desperation to get somebody and I hope it's not LSU I'm picking LSU to go to the swamp and win that game and improve to nine and one but that's another one that makes me super nervous on this schedule hey and next game Saturday November 23rd vanderbelt they're in the SEC for that GPA so we appreciate you but I don't think they're gonna pull out that W yeah that's uh that's one that does not make me nervous like at all yeah maybe if we were going like in a classroom it would make me super nervous if we an academic to cathlon that's exactly what I was about to say that's why I oh so last game of the regular season hopefully we'll be playing for more after that especially for me because I'll get a point uh Saturday November 3 the day after or the Saturday after Thanksgiving it is no longer Texas A&M it is no longer who was it before that who were we playing Arkansas Arkansas it used to be Arkansas for years it's now going to be Oklahoma um I just I don't don't like Oklahoma uh I I think we I think that we're going to end the season on a on a high note uh go into hopefully not just a bowl game but a playoff game um and hopefully we're position ourselves in a spot where we can or LSU can get a a home playoff game for the first ever College playoff that would be spectacular I may already be booking my ticket now who knows how do you see this Oklahoma game and this last game of season and possibly post beyond that yeah this game could essentially boil down to almost like a playin game to the playoffs between these two teams if Oklahoma has the type of season that a lot of folks are expecting Oklahoma to have I'm a little bit hesitant on Oklahoma in the big picture and being a playoff team obviously you know on our our playoff draft I they were relatively far down my list and you know maybe closer to 20 or so I wasn't looking at them having that type of season necessarily I like that it's a home game in Oklahoma's first year in the SEC and similar to some of the stuff we talked about kayin deau or the Sooners having to come to Tiger Stadium I don't love the that I can't shake the feeling of two years ago LSU seeming like they might still have an outside playoff chance going into that that trip to Texas C&M and that they should win that A&M game and letting that completely laxidasical uh fall away from them they've had games like that that have been disappointing to end the season and I worry about that similar to what you said with the Florida game I I think LSU ends up about a 10 and two team and to this point I do not have them losing a second and so I I marked this one down as one that is is a viable second l or a viable loss to end the season worried about it hope I'm wrong don't want the Sooners to have that claim to coming to Tiger Stadium and winning but it is something that really concerns me and that's where I ended the regular season 10 and two yeah and I just I also wonder because I think the last what is it like four times we've played Oklahoma we've just smacked the out of them true uh I wonder if that kind of comes back to to to bite the LSU Tigers team not that you know any of these kids were playing when that stuff happened um yeah we we talk about some of those games and kids are like I was I was six when that game yeah yeah like uh like like does anyone on either team uh just did they have a a tie to the fusc thing maybe yes oh no I thought you were gonna ask to the last time Oklahoma LSU played Josh Williams was on that team on that LG but but yeah other than first uh first game of my uh NCAA uh football career that I played uh uh he had a he had a lot of rushing airs a lot think I was crushing that that 200 number I I just I kept wanting to throw and this is completely side note we're getting off track I kept wanting to pass but every play I ran it was just like five seven yards I was like well you should do that again why don't you just keep on keep on trucking yeah man you keep doing what works until it don't work no more till they stop you love that I love that I love love that so at the end of the day we both kind of come with the same uh 10 and two energy uh but we got there a little bit different I hope that we're both wrong on every single loss that we have and we're moving forward as an undefeated number one team in the country get out of here Georgia the defense is back we're here every week podnas there we go I like your I Like Your Enthusiasm on that man I appreciate it I appreciate it that's what I'm going to try to do I'm G to get out of here and go order hangover food that's what I'm gonna do Jarrett do you have anything else before we go yeah we I mean we obviously ran a little longer on this than we intended but I did want to just mention some of the other colleges around the state little quick notes going into the season we won't do a full schedule run through of any of them but we talked some during the college football playoff draft we we really like this two-lane team think there's an opportunity there they've got a couple of huge games early in the season uh at home against Kansas State and going to Oklahoma and so we'll have a really good sense of that team in September and what their ceiling becomes on the big picture stage um the cinjun I like kind of where they're at at this point in Camp they're just trying to find a little bit of consistency I think they have a chance to be a pretty solid team the University of Louisiana yes I'm I'm not quite as high on them as on T Lane who I think has a realistic chance to be a ranked team here before too long but I'm excited about getting a chance to start this this cinjun season certainly and and they have some big games on the schedule as well um less familiar with ULM worried about them but I know and this is going to be the part of this that you really enjoy quarterback General booty is really excited to get ULM off of a 10 game skid and back in some positive direction ah they're going undefeated and then the uh the other FBS program up north just kind of winding it down we'll stick to the FBS teams Louisiana Tech this is a really important year for Coach kbi and Company to get some things uh you know to to take a next big step he feels like their position to do so their schedule sets up to me really favorably where I do think they can be a a seven eight nine win type team because of the way the schedule Falls and so that would be huge for those guys um and we'll see how it all plays out but obviously keep an eye on this LSU team trying to make the playoffs two-lane potentially trying to sneak into the playoffs as that G5 rep and it should be a really fun fall all over the state for those fbss as well as some great FCS football is always around the football is back baby football is back we are here we are on the precipice of of another season and I cannot wait um I can't I cannot thank you for saying the word precipice just impressed me on the tail end of your hangover show nice job yeah I I don't even know what that means I do I do I just don't ask me to explain it we are gonna keep you updated on all things throughout the state every team the highs the lows not just with LSU we're gonna we're gonna recap the two lane we're going to recap UL we're going to recap ULM we're going to recap latch hell may even throw Sou Eastern in there let's do it all right proud Alum kind of not really I went there for one year all right that's expected to be one of the first college teams I see this season South Eastern opens on the Thursday night at two lane and so I'm planning to be down there should be fun I don't know if it's still a thing but is the buzz still in Hammond I don't go there if it is but I've never been to the buzz I've only heard of the buzz oh man I went to the buzz way too much my freshman year that's why I had to get out of there um shouts out to shouts out to Hammond shouts out to Southeastern shouts out to all the teams all the all the uh guys that are about to start up we're running way too much over time you can follow us on podnas forla on Instagram follow Louisiana versus alel for all recruiting content across the state and more just Louisiana content Jarrett's there for you guys I'm here to just make nonsense and something for something for the people to make fun of that's what I that's what I'm here to do so so we are going to get out of here
