afraid a family lets an artificial intelligence take over their lives what could possibly go wrong here's my review the film starts off with a short scene where a little girl gets told by an AI to go downstairs in the middle of the night the mother goes downstairs to investigate the AI man manages to unlock the front door some people enter the house and then in the next scene we see a newspaper clipping of this family has disappeared we then meet the Curtis family the father Curtis played by John Joe Works in marketing the mother Meredith played by Katherine wst is a stay at home mom and she wants to finish her college degree the daughter Iris played by lukita Maxwell is in her final year of high school and she is dealing with the stress of a nude video scandal the eldest son Preston uh suffers from anxiety and he doesn't want to go to school uh at school he has difficulty making friends the youngest son Cal is about five or 6 years old and he has a serious health condition the father Curtis his a marketing boss Marcus played by Kei kadine forces him to put an AI in his home uh just to impress some new clients the family all welcome the new AI into their home except for Curtis the father he's very suspicious about the AI and he doesn't trust it the AI helps Meredith around the home with the kids and with her college degree the AI helps Iris with her new video scandal and with her homework and the AI fixes the young boys's uh medical uh issues but eventually the AI goes Rogue and it starts doing bad things it creates a deep fake video of iris's boyfriend and uh the boyfriend is driving the car and he crushes and dies the family tried to throw the AI into the Bing but it just always comes back in any way it can on the phone in the radio on the TV any way it can come back you can't get rid of it we learned that AI is based on a real person but we don't really get much detail about that the company that designed the AI uh the people in this company are apparently all working for the AI because the AI have has embarrassing and criminal information about everybody so it uses this to control everybody there's a very strange scene early in the film where one of the employeers of the AI company she's introduced to the father Curtis and then when they introduced she starts flirting with him like uh are you married do you have kids or maybe one day you want to cheat on your family it's a very strange SC uh throughout the film there's um an a RV car um then sitting at the front of the of the Curtis family house and we find out that actually the people living inside this RV is actually the missing family from the start of the film The Family living in this RV still haven't found that little girl and somehow the AI has convinced this a family that the Curtis family are some kind of child stealing cult and that they need to break into the house and and uh demand to um uh tell them where their daughter is eventually this is all sorted out at the end of the film but the final scene of the film is the AI taking control of the Curtis family and we assume this is this final season is kind of setting up a franchise where uh the AIO will take over a different family each film The I proclaims that it can never be deleted it can never go away so the C family just gives up and uh does whatever the AI says and that's the end of the film aor is directed by Chris Wheats who has directed drama such as about a boy with who Grant and a better life he's also directed higher budget films like um a Golden Compass with Nicole Kidman and one of the Twilight sequels okay I will start off with the positives the film is listed as almost 90 minutes long but actually uh once the final credits come up the film is only 1 hour and 16 minutes long so it depends on how you look at it if that's a good thing or not because the film is not very good but at least you only wasted you only wasted 1 hour and 16 minutes but these days movie tickets are about $20 or more so um really 1 hour and 160 minutes you're not really getting your money worth here the film has a good cast and they all get good uh give good performances the film looks good and the film is trying to say something about Ai and how much control we should be giving AI into our lives but unfortunately the film feels very dated this premise would have been um good maybe 5 or 10 years ago but in 2024 we we know what AI is is uh capable of so the characters in the film are very surprised but actually as viewers we we are not uh surprised at all we know that AI can possibly take over anything that has a computer in it we know that it's probably not a good idea to get into a self-driving car car if you don't trust AI the director has also forgotten to put any real scares in the film especially in the first half of the film apart from one scene involving uh someone from the IV family in the first hour of the film basically nothing happens I give afraid two stars out of five this premise and theme feels very very dated it feels like something from years ago and the and the film the horror film is very too toothless it just lacks any real scares so I really can't recommend uh this new film afraid at all thanks for watching please subscribe to my channel and like the video see you next time
