NICHOLS DIED THREE DAYS LATER IN THE HOSPITAL. THE FORMER OFFICERS HAVE PLEADED NOT GUILTY OF DEPRIVING NICHOLS OF HIS RIGHTS THROUGH EXCESSIVE FORCE, FAILURE TO INTERVENE AND WITNESS TAMPERING. LET'S BRING IN ELISE PRESTON. SHE IS FOLLOWING ALL OF THIS. I UNDERSTAND THE JURY WAS OFFICIALLY SEATED TUESDAY. WHAT MORE DO WE KNOW ABOUT THEM, THESE 12 INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL ULTIMATELY DECIDE THEIR FATE IN THIS CASE? >> Reporter: THAT WAS A SURPRISE SEATING. PEOPLE ARE EXPECTING JURY SELECTION TO TAKE PLACE FOR UP TO FIVE DAYS HERE IN MEMPHIS. SO MANY PEOPLE WERE AWARE OF THE CASE. SO MANY PEOPLE HAD KNOWLEDGE OF THOSE OFFICERS. THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE THAT JURY WITHIN TWO DAYS. IT IS VERY REPRESENTATIVE OF THIS COMMUNITY. 16 PEOPLE WERE CHOSEN AND ARE EXPECTED TO SERVE FOR THE NEXT THREE HAPPEN FOUR WEEKS, THE ANTICIPATED LENGTH OF THE TRIAL. 12 OF THE 16 WILL BE THE IMMEDIATE JURORS. THEY HAVE FOUR ALTERNATES. IT IS VERY MIXED ONCE YOU LOOK AT THE GROUP. EIGHT WOMEN, EIGHT MEN OF VARIOUS RACES AND VARIOUS AGES. >> WHAT ARE WE HEARING FROM OPENING STATEMENTS? I THINK THAT IS LARGELY IN PART TO THIS GRAPHIC VIDEO THAT YOU MENTIONED THAT WE ARE NOT SHOWING AT THIS TIME. PROSECUTORS WALK THROUGH WHAT JURORS WILL HEAR IN THEIR CASE. KEEP IN MIND THE THREE OFFICERS WHO ARE CHARGED, THIS IS A FEDERAL TRIAL. THEY ARE FACING CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS. THERE ALSO FACING VIOLATIONS RELATED TO WHAT THE PROSECUTION IS SAYING THEY TRIED TO CONSPIRE WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT OF JANUARY 7, 2023. THE PROSECUTOR WALKED JURORS THROUGH WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO SEE ON THAT VERY GRAPHIC VIDEO. THE VIDEO WAS NOT SHOWN TO THE JURORS JUST YET. MANY HAVE POSSIBLY ALREADY SEEN THE VIDEO. WALKING THROUGH THE VIDEO. HEARING THE PROSECUTOR DESCRIBED IT, IT IS TOUGH GOING THROUGH THE BEATING. GOING THROUGH WHAT TYRE NICHOLS ENTERED THE NIGHT OF JANUARY 7, THE REPEATED KICKS, THE REPEATED PUNCHES AND THEN DYING THREE DAYS LATER. THE PROSECUTOR ALSO MENTIONED WE WILL HEAR FROM TWO OFFICERS WHO WERE SEEN ON THAT TAPE EMMETT MARTIN AND DESMOND MILLS. THEY HAVE ALREADY PLEADED GUILTY. THEY ARE SET TO TESTIFY DURING THIS T
