welcome everyone to the home of the Charlotte 49ers Jerry Richardson stadium and the fans have been filling this one up in anticipation of this Clash maybe you need a little caffeine or maybe the sheer energy of this matchup will keep you wide awake as we know anything can happen when you kick off after dark as we'll see a squad from the Sun Belt the James Madison Dukes taking on a team from the AAC the Charlotte 49ers for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up and the Dukes will put total leather and we'll get [Applause] started here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 so Charlotte defense will take the first swing of the game and here he comes the guy who pulls all the strings in this attack I think what makes him so unique he has such a good understanding of this offense always seems to know what the answer is to the test always in control the receivers know they're going to get the football everybody believes in this dude listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive that he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play danced his way through traffic pick up of four to the 19 I know that wasn't a big huge play and everybody's not excited the fans aren't going crazy but those are the plays that in the fourth quarter matter a lot again making you tackle my back making you feel the physicality of the football game throughout so you get tired and get worn down in the fourth quarter Brown wants to pass couldn't find him in and just had to throw it away to avoid a negative play and offensively we know it's hard throwing the ball in third and long situations because the defense can play Big Zone coverages they got a lot of guys with their eyes on you so the QB had no shot there nobody open nice job not forcing it not risking a turnover just throwing it away and the 49ers line up to punt it away hand goes into the air for the fair Catch and the catch is made around the 40 so the James Madison Dukes offense will try to get something started with their first possession here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play well they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed the Dukes racing to the line in the hurry up now they'll run the draw and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 defensive linemen love when you sneak in draws when you sneak in screens it holds these defensive linemen accountable you want to rush the quarterback you want to fly up field every single play we'll sneak right behind you and get some yardage now on third down after that run to the ground to try to pick up the first and the dupes get it pass the sticks well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running they get just enough to keep the drive alive the Dukes come to the line with a fresh set of [Applause] downs caught in the back field it's Ross and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain this is a very tough slot receiver to cover if you're a linebacker because of how quick and how Shifty he is you never seem to know which way he's going and he always seems to create an open space for his QB offense gets set for second down back to throw it's Morris tight end finds a soft spot tackled but he has a first down I don't know who on defense is going to cover this guy honestly he could be a problem for this defense over the middle of the field in the passing game and the Dukes look to keep this drive humming comes out throwing on first down caught in the back field it's Penny and good coverage by the defense just a short game and that was close for the offense they try to go wide receiver screen they're counting on that receiver beating that Defender wasn't able to make him miss that time but if I'm on offense I'm going back to that play later that last comption sets him up on second down from the gun the running back looking for room he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple goodness that happened fast he was in the back field before the ball was even snapped oh man adrenaline pumping heartbeating a little faster there is some intensity on that one if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of [Applause] momentum on Third and long he has to throw for it and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look there third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the back and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion and now on fourth down they'll try a field goal he's going to reach for a long one a 52 yd attempt no no good kicker couldn't quite get it through and the scoreboard Remains the Same [Music] Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this didn't get much on first down it's second and nine from the gun they'll try the middle turns it on in Midfield the express way is wide open TouchDown Charlotte he broke away from the defense and they couldn't catch him I love the execution on that play great blocking up front just to get the ball carrier an opportunity in the second level of the defense and then at that point it was make a guy Miss and the speed that was a perfectly executed [Music] play he'll try to add another to their lead and the P makes it seven nothing only took two plays to find the End Zone on that drive and gashing them on the touchdown run finished it off just about set to kick it [Applause] away and he takes this from inside the five and the returner will be brought down now James Madison sends the offense back onto the field we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be demoralizing yeah and he will be sacked at the 6yd line that Defender is a matchup nightmare for any offensive line in the block he's got athleticism he's got length he's got flexibility he put it all in his play on that side and now they have enhanced their degree of difficulty on second and long from the six from the shotgun they'll run it really nice stop there from this senior leader man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quick you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 looking to throw it's Morris pocket starts to collapse and they'll miss the connection here on third down we're already in the first quarter but already you get the feeling this could be a long day for this QB he's already been sacked he gets hit right there on the incomplete throw they've got to find a way to do a better job up front of protecting this guy or it's going to be difficult to put up points the Duke send out the punt unit three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball and the returner will be brought down Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their heels and you back them off a little bit you get a little bit Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you dialed up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see if they can pull it off again here on the ground it's Norton at the 35 he's loose and that first Defender was just waving at him after that sweet move he picked up the first down this running back loves running into the teeth of the defense in between the tackles he keeps a low pad level and he's got some speed from the 30 yd line on first down used the play fake now to throw completes it in the middle nice job by the receiver on the end route there and how about the speed after he made his break he was able to actually separate a little bit from the DB helping out his QB on that one now on second and short after the first down completion off the play fake throws to the wide out snags it he's run out of bounds after the big game and they are in business first and goal when you're going to run a comeback route you've got to sett like you're going deep and that was a great job there by the receiver really making that corner I think he was running deep down the field so he got the corner to turn his hips turn his shoulders and then the receiver was able to just pivot around and make it an easy passing catch lets it go to the end zone and it's caught touchdown Charlotte one of the areas they really focused on with this receiver in the off season was we need you to make more plays for us in the end zone we're taking shots we need to be able to step up and make tough catches David what a grab right there and I think a lot of that has to do with trusting your guy knowing where he's going to be knowing when he's going to sit down when he's not so being on the same page and then having a guy that can go get it just when the ball is near him he's going to make the play just like he did right there for six points lining up for the Pat and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 a very very efficient five play scoring drive and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] Drive he'll bring it back from inside as five running through contact really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the give to the tail back finds a little bit of space gets three to the 22 and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense Hest and the Dukes come to the line in the hurry up leaves it with the running back that'll be a gain of five out to the 2 seven I think they called that knowing they weren't going to hit a home run so why would you call it then well you call it so third down becomes an easier down it's not third and long where I have to pass the football now all options on the table they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 [Applause] they'll try to run for it really nice job to get it past the sticks pick up the first down at the 30 and I just love when guys know exactly where the sticks are you could tell ran with purpose finished through the sticks and got just enough for the first down and a nice job up front too right good communication everybody knew where they had to go hat on a hat work the double teams and get some push from the gun they'll try to impose their running game finds his way for three out to the 33 you know it's so important for offenses to want to keep third Downs managable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down got three on first down it's second and seven looking to throw it's Morris and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was knock loose and third down is coming not many receivers like to get hit they just don't okay they're pradon that's what they are that's who they are nice job by the defender you could tell he was catching the football he was going to put a hit on him to make sure he had to think about something later and you could see the ball pop out and fall to the ground they'll throw it to the back on the screen and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker third down understanding exactly where the sticks are you know you got to stop certain routes so they don't get to certain depths quarterback completes him gets another first down got to be a little bit more mindful of where those sticks are the Dukes are flying down the [Applause] field from the gun the G looking for room and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four they'll leave it with him one step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground and the Dukes want to pick up the tempo he'll pull it on the read they've got it inside the 40 at the 39 as they pick up the first down there's an example of the offense taking advantage of all the attention the defense is giving this outstanding running back remember he's one of the best in the game they're expecting him to get the football so the quarterback says you know what I'll just keep it no one's keying on me I'm going to get up field and find an explosive [Applause] play off the play fake on first down and the defense picks up a sack getting the quarterback down at the 44 playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that F you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big after that 5yd loss some work to do now to keep this drive humming at second and 15 they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and he's able to shed one tackle but still just a very short gain well man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack they've methodically worked it down the field this the 11th play of the drive but the defense can get off the field now grabbed behind the line it's Penny oh they knock it free once that ball was loose offense didn't have a chance Defenders everywhere it's a turnover these wide receivers so fast nowadays they're such big Playmakers I just want to get it to them and let them make it happen but a lot of times we're running to them too we're focused on chasing it down and funneling the football in the right direction defense swarm did a good job getting their hand on the football causing the fumble from the wide receiver Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right want to be able to keep this defense guessing P yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place second and 10 here Brown will throw it got his man on the right and that is a Nifty bit of navigation to get through that traffic get the first down well I know the tight end did some good things after the catch but got to give the quarterback credit too for the location of the throw because he put it out in front of his big man he was able to make the catch and accelerate creating some distance there between him and the defense they'll try the run and he doesn't find much Running Room a short gain on the play after picking up a couple at second and eight on the run it's Norton and the defense snows him under after a very short game the line to gain here is the 43 yd line and it's third down from the gun wants to pass caught near the sideline it's Olen you know and I think a more accurate throw gives him a chance to catch that and stride turn up field and get the first down he was able to pluck it out of the air get his foot down in bounds but now it sets up fourth and short the 49ers will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll feeli the punt couldn't get away from that cover team and they've got him down at the 23 guys James Madison ready to go back on the attack to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing on all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or that scheme that you can use against this defense a little release to the back and after the tackle that will bring us to the end of the first quarter how about these two running games so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter steps now the challenge here they've taken a punch but they can't let it get out of hand as we start the [Applause] second on Third and long trying to have a big completion here safe completion on the screen they finally get him stopped what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call at the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screening behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive play out of the gun the give to the back good job running tough and behind his pads as he gets up to the 38 yd line nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up the Dukes in the hurry up gets it out quickly good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 and that's what I love about this offense you're not going to get all of your big chunk plays in the passing game by throwing it deep down the field you can kind of Dink and dunk and on that RPO play they had it dialed up and set up to go to that player in the right flat nice job and the Dukes have this offense [Applause] rolling pre- snap motion quarterback trying to get a read unloads to the wide out grabbed in the middle it's Hudson and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28th and this is what's so great about play action the Run fake sucks those linebackers up and it just creates so much more space for these receivers to operate beautiful execution by the offense not the most productive half for this offense so far but finally starting to get it in gear first and 10 looking to move it through the air catch in the middle it's Hudson they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down well this offense knew coming into this game they wanted to try to attack the middle of the field in the passing game and they're able to execute the end route there the Dukes have moved it inside the 20 the back goes in motion back to pass it's Morris takes easy completion he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one now on offense you're trying to get your running back involved here in the passing game and obviously no success on that play defense seemed like they were aware of it and all of a sudden you've set yourself up in a tough position here on third headed to the line at the 23 trying to convert this third and short from the gun wants to pass got it couldn't quite nudge it in not sure you could get much closer but it'll be first and goal really nice job there with the quarterback reading coverage he knew exactly where to go with the football and at what exact time the timing could not have been better they get the completion on third down setting up first and goal and the Dukes will try to put one on the board on first and goal from the gun fires to the end zone and and he's got it touchdown James Madison it's a much needed life from this offense as they try to cut away at this lead no doubt needed something to go right you're down you got to make plays you got to get your team back in it great start keep chipping away ling up to add another and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer 76 yds on the drive for the touchdown and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field takes a hand off it's Norton not a lot of room but found his way ahead for two out to the 26 now that's what you're trying to do as a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the road up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down it's a draw forges ahead picks up about three to the 29 you got to think they'll try to muscle their way forward on Third and short from the 29 Brown wants to pass quickly to the tight end really nice job there to pick up the first down and get it to their own 41 on third down offenses have their plays what they like in third and short what they like third and medium third and long great job by the offense having success now it's in coming upon the defense to learn their plays and try to shut it down throughout the game and the 49ers getting set on First and 10 the give to the right they'll pick up four second and Six coming small game I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this after the productive first down play it's second and six he's looking to throw right through his hands you just have to make that catch and it'll be third down that's disint pointing for the offense cuz that's a play that you rep all week long in practice you should be able to hit that one no problem and QB receiver couldn't come up with a completion now trying to keep this drive alive on Third and long from the 45 from the gun wants to pass he'll throw it another incompletion on third down the 49ers will try to pin them back with the punt no return coming he'll call for the fair catch James Madison sends the offense back onto the field that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much re they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect them to keep pushing this ball downhill and just imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with back-to-back TDS the Dukes moving quickly to the [Applause] line PS and throws off the RPO and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land I'll tell you the offense might be setting up a shot down the field here you might see them later fake the wide receiver screen and see if they can hit a tight end or another receiver running up the boundary keep your eye open for that out of the gun the inside handoff looking for a crease not a lot of daylight he gets one to the 32 and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one back to throw it's Morris trying to get to him and he can't escape and down he goes what a great job by this defense setting the tone early in the first half they've been hitting the quarterback early and often make him feel uncomfortable make him feel that pressure keep getting him on the ground that's why theyve built a lead and the Dukes decide to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away slips through the line made a Defender Miss he was able to get that ball up to the 48 yd line before he stopped on the return Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field David the punter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the punter out there this offense needs to get back lathered up and get a little bit more of a rhythm best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them the football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense that kind of pick up on first down and you can take a shot here on second and short he's looking to throw grabbed over the middle it's Clemens he make the stop at the 33 but 10 yds on that play and a first down really good job working through his progression you get it to him quick and the big tight end has a chance to run a little and and a really good job by the QB throwing an accurate throw I I got to hit those guys on the Move On The Run so they can do this they can catch the football get up field and chew up some extra yards man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out after the three- yd pickup they come to the line second and seven leaves it with the back makes a man miss really nice run there good solid pick up and they'll move the sticks with a first down there's really no secret to it David when this guy's running well this offense is so hard to stop it opens up everything and he's having a great day showing you a little bit of everything and this offense has got it rolling on the ground and the 49ers are moving quickly down the field pulls and fires complete headed to the end zone and he'll take it in and house it touchdown 49ers defense has to be better on the back end they knew this offense was going to come out and they were going to challenge them they were going to try to push the ball vertically down the field they've now given up two touchdown passes in this game they've got to shore up their play in the back half they'll try to attack one more on their score the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead a very very efficient five play scoring drive and they close the deal with a 20yd pass for Six about to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 they'll start this drive with the pass fires to the big fella and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first down I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job formt the Dukes want to crank the tempo looking downfield it's Morris almost had the completion just missed it and that's easy pitch and catch you got to catch that those are routes that you throw all the time and you expect your receiver you know those same hitch routes you sell it deep real quick sit down I need that to be a positive eight yards or 10 yards an easy play I can go to my receiver has to make that catch for this offense on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air tremendous just awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver uh at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a football [Applause] game he'll come out throwing on first down grabbed in the back field it's a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three well we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into a they'll line up for a second down play looking to throw it again caught behind the line it's Hudson and they do a really good job not as easy as it looks to get those blocks and he picks up the first down nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive [Applause] success off play action on first down fires to the wi out got it in the middle it's Hudson they're ripping off chunks of yardage they get it to the 33 when you play zone coverage everybody drops back everybody has eyes on the quarterback you're not really looking at the wide receivers a lot of times so they can slip in those little cracks and the quarterback can really make precise throws great job great play great throw great game they'll give it to the back you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six to the air it's Morris just missed on the connection incomplete it's a makeable field goal from the 29 yd line let's see how aggressive they are on Third and long it's [Applause] complete excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down and that's why this guy is such a weapon in this offense because you don't have to throw it far down field just get the ball in his hands he catches it close to the line of scrimmage but look what he was able to do after the catch he gets an explosive play for this [Applause] offense from the gun running back gets to give he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well the insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon if I can quote the great Reese Davis that was very UNG good not a productive first down play not many hiccups on this drive but it's second and 13 now he'll do it himself and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down we've reached a two-minute warning and this thing has been onesided and they hope to at least have to feel good about going into halftime really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal trying to move the sticks on third down through the air he caught it they get him stopped at the two but it'll be first and goal how valuable is a tight end in the red area and now they're set up with a first and goal I love it find the big fella down in the red area big Target works the middle of the field easier throws nice job by this offense keeping it very simple they'll use the running game on first and goal and he takes it in for the score touchdown dukes and that's a nice drive a nice physicality punching it in with the Run game and here's the thing I like where this offense is going nice job creating some momentum going into the half cutting down the lead this thing could get really exciting nice job answering the Bell right before the [Music] half getting set for the point after and with the extra point they're down a touchdown 2114 precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring Drive and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away on the move from inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field Brown will throw it fires to the right makes a connection good call good execution as they move the chains may have a first down at the 38 nice job there good timing between the QB and the wide receiver executing that out route you open a drive like that and you've got some operating room it's first down from the 38 he's going to pass setting up the screen not able to break the big one on that screen to the running back but he found enough and a solid pick up on first down love the execution there in the the running back shows pass protect pass protect last second turns around so he's able to get the ball the D Lin have already run past him now he can turn up field for a big Gainer got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down and his throw is incomplete this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the 45 from the gun wants to pass the short hands it's Norton and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short we've got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break the 49ers will call on their punt team he shanked it and and no shot at a return here as the punt flies out of bounds the offense lining up for a first down play they'll come out on this drive and let it rip and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming after the quarterback and receiver couldn't NE it's second and 10 dropping back it's Morris all kinds of room to throw that one in there a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half it'll be a first down from the 49 yd line he wants to throw caught over the middle it's Hudson really putting together a threat now they get the first it's at the 37 well this defense is being challenged in this secondary in particular and I know ad DB made the tackle there but we're only in the second quarter and already this quarterback has over 200 yards passing and the Dukes come to the line with a new set of downs they'll throw it on first down and he just flat dropped it I think he wanted to run before he secured it come on receiver you can make that play you do it all the time in practice don't come out here on game day and start getting big eyes Under the big lights you got to make that catch running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break second and 10 he'll throw again out of the back field he's open they'll use a timeout right before halftime maybe time for one or two more plays and it's third down but they're going to go ahead and try the field goal and try to get points before the [Applause] break it is true as he puts three on the board how nice is it as a head coach to have a kicker like this it makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just trut him out there and let him stroke it through the uprights that late in the half field goal always gives you a little young man is the total package and his ability to catch the ball out of the back field is a differentiator a lot of guys can hit the hole this kid can hit the hole and hit the home run in the passing game and with that let's send it back to the guys inside Jerry Richardson stadium and the 49ers will kick it away to start the second half here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 guys James Madison ready to go back on the attack pulls it fir complete just finds that little crev and he's still up and he's brought down after a huge completion and as a defense how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do CAU in the back field it's Penny and they're able to force him out of bounds after a short pickup the defense has their hands full trying to stop this guy in the slot they're going to have to figure something out to bracket him try and get two bodies around and maybe get some safety help as well cuz right now they do not have the answer for this guy the Dukes headed quickly to the line now the play fake keeps looking down field short gain on the play before he slides well great job there by the defense because weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage in the back end nowhere for the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this drive started this drive with a bang but now it is third down dropping back it's Morris fires and picked off takes it the other way inside the 30 he's at the 10 touchdown ners how about that D coming up with a play like that the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back brother lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point is good and they have an 11-point lead they're lining up to kick it off after the pick six and that defense will come out feeling it and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 James Madison sends the offense back onto the field that last pick six after a drive like that David can and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 the defense coming up big there and the sack is great but the secondary deserves some credit too no doubt when you can cover like that secondary and drop back in your Zone and only Rush a few and you feel comfortable getting home and they're going to get to the quarterback that is a great feeling and that's fun to be a defensive coordinator calling the play they're going to be in a world of hurt if they don't get this thing going forward here on second down from the 13 to the air it's Morris and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down looked like the offense had a chance for a big play there but the running back just could not reel that ball in guys this offense is already reeling down multiple possessions really need to cash in on this drive on Third and long doesn't need to take the check down he'll pull it down and run and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down I just love this guy's instincts right when things aren't open right away he never panics he just understands the situation where he is on the field and he's so confident in his own natural ability that he has the ability to run go get the first down keep this drive rolling fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way makes the catch and now looking for just a little bit of daylight they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line oh he drops the football he had him right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second down well this defense knew coming in they were going to see some RPL they were going to see some quick game a nice job there taking the throw away from the quarterback back to the line after the incompletion second and 10 from the 37 misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air that's caught it's Matt nice pick up there gets him the first down and sets him up at the 45 yd line really nice job by the quarterback understanding I needed to throw this ball hard like I got to fit it in there tight and a nice job by the wide receiver wearing it because he really didn't have a choice cuz he was going to wear that one regardless the offense getting set for a first down from the 45 power football with the run at the 35 he's open really good surge for this offense they move the chains and he's got it at to 34 and listen if it ain't broke don't fix it I mean I love teams that commit to the run and when it's successful keep running the rock yeah David I I think this offensive line right now they've got a lather going they're really sort of getting in the groove and flow of this game they're just getting tremendous push at the point of attack it seems like every single time they decide to run the ball after the productive first down play it's second and six catch in the middle it's Weber he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch the big fell the tight end the wide receiver in a tight end's body going up and making the catch the 49ers will have it first and 10 quick completion to the right that completion gets them inside the 10 and the defense is running out of room to defend one of the things that makes this guy so dangerous is how good he is after the catch if he's got any space around him he's able to first he's able to make people miss and get extra yards for his offense you saw it right there going to work on second down in the red zone and still some ground to cover to pick up that first down missed it receiver there it's incomplete boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal on the option they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a disaster well this guy's been eating him alive all game long finally though David you wonder if the defense has been able to make some adjustments and find something positive to help slow this guy down hey baby steps right that's a tackle for a loss I know he's got over a hundo on the game but this defense is definitely going to have to be more aggressive commit more guys to stopping that bad man smashes it between the uprights and now the leaves extended a little so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather he'll bring it back from inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 guys James Madison ready to go back on the attack the give to the running back from the shotgun and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go this is when the pressure can can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game so Palmer no need to pay it I was just going to say David I mean this thing can flip quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely the got it in the middle it's Ross put it right on him sweet good pick up and they'll move the change with the first down when these wide receivers work the middle of the field so much of this is feel understanding where the holes are in the zone or understanding how to get leverage on a man and these wide receivers are dangerous nowadays because they do it so fast and see that so quick and make those plays over the middle give to the back pushes ahead for a couple they'll mark it at the 33 and the Dukes want to move quickly he'll try it again good job running tough and behind his pads as he gets up to the 38 yd line and you know when we talk about great third down defenses it really starts with them getting stops on on first and second down you've got to get those stops early in the drives to set up third and long so that's a missed opportunity on that second down by this defense they'll try to bully their way for the first he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go the Dukes will send out the punt [Applause] unit good job by the coverage unit to stop the Return Man Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David in generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive didn't get much on first down it's second and nine the give to the back rumbles ahead for a pick up of five to the 29 that didn't bust for a long one but now third down becomes very manageable it's not third in eternity now the whole Playbook short passing game long passing game all of it's available they'll try to muscle their way forward on Third and short from the 29 motion from the offense they're going to try to throw for it on third down he's going to have enough to pick up the first down as they stop him at the 33 yd line he might have expected to see this DB up in his receiver's kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good reys at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it an easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on third short and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that if you're the defense you know that running back is the guy you've now got to stop he's had a lot of touches in this game yes he's made a lot of plays but you've got a chance to win here if you're going to do that you need to take away got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 Brown wants to pass fires to the middle wide open downfield they got him free for a big Gainer down to the 43 that quarterback has a hose that dude could throw it through a car wash and not get it w great job of putting that ball on a line to his wide receiver and the 49ers are on the move wants to throw on first down off the play fake makes his connection really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out the 49ers have it with a first and 10 it's reverse nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry it is so easy when you're a defensive player when you watch a little misdirection of the ball go one way to turn and to run that's not my job my job is to stay home the defense have did a good job of that defense stayed home made the Play Lost yardage leaves them looking at second and 14 he's looking to throw grabed behind the line it's m and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few I don't know if that's the coverage you want to be throwing wide receiver screens against often times you want the receivers to have some access you want the DBS to be off a couple yards so you can help set up the blocks and give the receiver somewhere to go with it it's hard to run that against press coverage and they only picked up a few yards there on Third and long he's going to have to turn one loose down field picked off trying to take it back he's inside the 40 at the 20 touchdown James Madison what a great play by the defense and paying it off with the interception return what a play by this defense with the pick six and how about the defender exactly what you're supposed to breaks on the football makes the interception everybody on defense we turn to offense go lay some blocks so my guy can get it and take it back to the [Music] house he'll try to tack on one more and the extra point draws them closer it's 3124 they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six he'll start the return inside his five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field when you're a defense it is stop the run first that is your first responsibility it makes the whole game easy and right now they got it going on the ground the defense is going to have to change something up these little tiny Dink and dunk Dink and dunk you keep doing this they'll go all the way down the field on you so you might want to get a little bit more aggressive halfway there on first down it's second and five they go to the ground runs ahead and Powers it way for four yds out to the 30 I think you run that play so you stay out of third and long third and long is not where an offense ever wants to thrive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make sure you're set up for a good third down this is where you make the money on the drive ball at the 30 it's third and [Applause] short keeps it on the bootleg looking to throw fires to the tight end and the 49ers get enough for the first down David that is a great security blanket for a quarterback to have a hide end to make those conversions dang right find the big fella on Third and short Dependable clutch nice hands first down they'll snap this one from the 32 it's first down takes a hand off it's Norton not much he could do there does pick up two to the 34 after picking up a couple it's second and [Music] eight they feed him again gets it to the 42 yd line and that's a first down how nice is it as a play caller when you've got a running back as good as this guy right I mean you can just dial up conservative run calls nothing has to be too tricky too fancy you just know is going to go make good things happen even when it's not blocked properly he is still finding ways to rip off long runs this guy now has over 150 yards rushing in the game doesn't look like he's slowing down guys oh what a big play for this offense as they get it to the 33 yd line and a big key on that throw to the slot receiver guys is putting the ball out in front the location of the throw is what helped that guy get extra yards after the catch the 49ers have it with a first and 10 one running back in the back field and he has it trying to pound their way forward he picks up a couple to the 31 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll keep it on the ground breaks the tackle defense there to stop him after a gain of three but he is inside the 30 to the 29 as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it a strike downfield and they make the tackle but it'll be enough for a first down and we'll see if they get another playoff here in the third and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches in a chance to show off their hands in the passing game one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter finish trying to barge in he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two they're strong and they're strong defensive tackles they're strong there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive linemen and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus pound guy grabbing you around the shoulder pad you tend to go to the ground pretty quickly they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and with the stuff there Jesse on second down this little third to midrange you got two downs what are you thinking here maybe getting your quarterback out on the perimeter and giving him a run pass option see if you can get the defense in a bond a touchdown here on Third and goal really ratchets up the game pressure barrels ahead he's Dro behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three man if I'm quarterback right now after this long of a drive down this close I'm going for a touchdown here p and I get that but I've worn this defense out man I'm going to go for the touchdown right here and if I miss they got to go the whole length of the field to score a touchdown and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot he splits to Ypres and puts three on the board and that will extend their lead even further you know it's funny in an age where there's so many college football analytics and everybody wants to go for it on fourth down at the end of the day it still comes down to managing good decision by the head coach here in the fourth quarter by kicking that field goal you've now made it a two possession game your chances of winning this thing have now gone way up so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 James Madison sends the offense back onto the field R to move that pile forward he maybe gets two he's down at the 21 and the Dukes are in the hurry up to the air it's Morris and it'll be in complete this defense is physical and pass deep third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass got his Man Down field and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play this is the moment for this offense to put a drive together it doesn't matter what's happened up to the point of this game but you're trailing right now you got to put some points up on the board this is where all 11 guys need to be playing together as one [Applause] moving the running back trying to get the D to Tiff its hand now he's going to Glide away from pressure able to get just a few before sliding to avoid the hits he does a good job of dropping back going through his progressions nothing there what do I do go get some yardage make it positive don't sit back in the pocket and force something into a bad situation or take a sack great job making something out of nothing no huddle offense to the line wide receiver now comes in motion hand off from the gun he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage you got to have that defense you know you can go to in running situations your base defense where you say okay this is where I'm going to start and I'm going to stop the run stuff it up front my guys play Big up front then if I need to add some blitzes to it later on down the road I can but great job in the base defense making a play on Third and short they'll try to convert through the air and they got him for the sack and this has been the story of the night the offensive line getting beat up and this is why this team is losing you got to protect your quarterback this defense has had a field day with their fifth sack of the game The Dukes will this one away they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today it's blocked the pressure got hold he'll be brought down but there is a flag on the field let's see what that one's about so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty the offense comes back out with a new set of downs after the penalty from the shotgun now here's an inside GI moves It Forward just a bit a pick up of one to the 35 and the Dukes will hustle to the line free snap Motion in the back field to throw it's Morris he looks that one in nicely knocked down at the 25 yd line picked up 10 there and gets a first down nice job by the quarterback pre- snap and post Snap he knew the defense was going to be playing Zone coverage and there was no doubt in his mind where he was going with that football the Dukes are moving quickly down the field was to throw on first down got his man on the outside he's there to make the Stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play you know as a quarterback you believe in your matchup and and my running back if I could get him the ball in space he's going to win a lot of times he didn't that time the defense was ready nice job in the open field making the nice tackle they've got a really good drive going but a little speed bump here at second and 13 throws to the tight end and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down this defensive lineman have tense in the back field goodness gracious they're camping out back there hitting the quarterback time and time again when you've sacked him this much of course he's going to be flustered of course he wants to get rid of the football they're within field goal range at the 29 let's see if they can pick up a few or the first down on Third and long I tell you what I don't know if the offense was expecting man coverage that time thirdd and long and field goal Ranger expecting it to be Zone instead they lock them up manto man everybody on an island everybody W they get the incompletion Now setting up fourth so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot tried to give it enough Body English but he missed it the Miss field goal still leaves us with a double digit deficit still a 10-point gain [Music] Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field so last time David they ate up some clock ran a bunch of plays but settled for the field goal yeah but they're still up Reese and I like where I'm at if I'm on offense right now my job was to put another long drive together eat more clock and get another score just got to be better in the red zone this time around when they get down close to the goal line you need better execution to put a touchdown on the board here good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three running back searching for a hole and this one will be stopped for No Gain that's a big stop for the defense that running back has had so much success you're down in the football game you need to get the ball back to your offense you create a play like this this will get the fires going get the juices going now we got to go get a few more lining up to convert third down they'll try to get it through the air finds his tight end and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down boy the defense really needed to get off the field there and they just couldn't do it and it's a fresh set of downs man that hurts when you're trailing late in the ball game you need those stops you get him to third down you get him to those critical points now they get the first down you don't have many left you better get aggressive give to the running back we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one after picking up a couple it's second and eight Brown will throw it zings it complete to the right stopped at the 46 yd line but give him 10 yards and the first down he just keeps piling up numbers with completion after completion in this standout performance I think some people might say late in the game you got the win everything's in hand be a little bit conservative or you just say I'm just going to keep doing me and what I do with this offense has throw the football all over the yard and I'm going to try to win me a big trophy at the end the quarterback bought as much time as he could but the defense got to him and sacked him you use to play action to try to slow down the rush make the defense hesitant in that case they weren't hesitant at all no they weren't and it was a nice job with respect to effort on defense you saw guys engaged one onone they got dudes beating some blocks lots of speed in the front of that defense you saw saw on that play this offense has done a good job on this drive taking time off the clock as they come up on second down the p and throw off the RPO they get him down after he makes a catch you know the defense doesn't have an answer for this slot guy right now they may want to think about bracketing him having a Defender play to the outside and to the inside probably some sort of Zone coverage where you're trying to get two bodies forcing the quarterback to have to go somewhere else with the ball on third down he drops to throw oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down this is a point where you just got to be able to focus in the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you've got to be able to make that play and the 49ers will punt it away on fourth down they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today guys James Madison ready to go back on the attack to the ground with the back showed off just about every move in the book except the forward move stopped for a short gain and the Dukes racing to the line in the hurry up got it behind the line it's Hudson and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up and I don't like the play call guys screen pass at this point of the game against the defense playing big zones prevent trying to keep the ball in front it's just not going to work you got to take shots offensively ball is at the 41 as this def tries to force the punt on Third and long looking downfield it's Morris finds his big tight end a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down they absolutely had to have that third down to keep any glimmer of hope alive and defensively that's exactly what I want make you get to third down the clock is your enemy multiple possession lead that is right where I want this [Applause] offense the give to the back they pick up half of it it'll be second and five I know the passing game sells the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful half way there on first down it's second and five they'll go to the ground he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well he was trying to do it all by himself at the end of the day it's a tackle for once I mean the number of tackles he broke at some point somebody's got to get blocked to help the guy out a little bit man the defense was like a bunch of zombies on that last play they just would not stop chasing that ball Carri they line up and is a Long Way to the sticks from here on Third and long try to convert through the air they're setting up the screen and they knock him down but he got past the line to gain well trailing like they are right now in the fourth quarter their execution offensively is just going to have to be at a premium you can't afford a lot of incompletions at this point everybody is going to need to be on the same page moving forward the Dukes are marching down the field going up top on first down he's got an open man and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one well down two possessions good news is you get the completion bad news though did not get out of bounds you know right now saving the clock that is at a premium for this offense and the Dukes with the first first and 10 they're threatening to score and they'll throw it oh he had him right down the middle and it just squirted right through his fingers and they miss an opportunity for a nice play on first down didn't connect last time let's see if they throw it again on second down [Applause] out of the shotgun they go to the ground relying on that running game as they threaten a pick up of four down to the 13 The Dukes come to the line in the hurry up wants to throw it's Morris going for six touchdown Dukes you thought they were done they're not they're back baby they got the score they needed but this isn't over no don't call it a comeback yet the first part step one accomplished but this offense obviously still has work to do but the defense has to go out and get a stop and get him the ball back Pat unit on the field and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer they took it 64 yards right down the field and they finish it by firing one in from the 13 for the score Ling up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field they keep it on the ground clock is their friend and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play the defense obviously this point is trailing they need to get the football back they're expecting run they know the offense is going to try and bleed the clock so you got to be good at the point of attack they were right there they gave up nothing on that run they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 leaves it with the back and a really short game before he gets a whole bunch of company from the defense defense uses a timeout quick trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense this third down play might be the last chance for this defense to stay in the game Brown wants to pass and it's incomplete on third down defense has been looking so good on this drive so far they already set up third and long and now they take all the throws away down the field great job and coverage great job reading the QB's eyes so there's nowhere for him to go with it he's got to throw it away the 49ers will line up to pun it [Applause] away he gets a block he'll put a stop to that return as he gets it up to the 41 yd line James Madison sends the offense back onto the field they took it down the field for a touchdown the last time they had it and now an opportunity to take the lead in this football game so they got to be feeling good that they did their part score your defense does your part Jesse this offense keep that momentum I would say stay aggressive here and just keep doing what you were doing on that last drive right where whatever was working for you just go back keep using those same Playmakers to allow you to go down here and score a touchdown he's going to let one fly down the middle and they're not quite in Rhythm there it's incomplete well obviously here in the fourth quarter trailing they're going to be throwing the ball trying to get back in this game couldn't come up with it there on second down you're expecting them to throw it here on Third and now this offense will try to figure out a way to move the chains after that second down incompletion wants to throw on third down and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knock the ball to the ground fourth down coming up well if that last incompletion is any indicator it's going to be hard to convert this fourth and short coming up you're trailing late in the game you've got to come up with a big completion but where are you going to go where's your best match up here on this next critical down he'll go up top maybe a deciding play here the completion well past the sticks and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains that's a great example of the receiver knowing exactly where the first down marker is he got the depth he needed to get so once he was able to make the catch he already knew he had it and now a fresh set of downs they convert the fourth down but back to the line with no time to waste to the air on first down snagged on the outside it's Knight and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up one of and it looks as if they've buzzed down replay wants to have another peek at that last play and they take another look at the play with the officials on the field we're right and the play will stand back to throw it's Morris how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion yeah and this point of the game guys fourth quarter you're trailing you know that they're going to be throwing the ball and trying to be aggressive and try to climb back into this one couldn't come up with it there on second down let's see what happens on third that last incomplete pass has him staring at a third and three they turn to the passing game on Third and short he's got him in the flat this guy obviously is a versatile player running it and also catching it that time though David just nowhere to go on third down no and I love it when you throw it to a guy like that when I'm covering that kind of weapon and you throw it to the flats and it takes time to get to him and everybody is able to pursue to the football not when it gets to him downhill with harder angles nice job about the defense seeing it reacting and then forcing him out of bounds and forcing the fourth down they thought they had a good plan but it did not work and they'll take a [Applause] knee for
