EA College Football Simulations Game 14 Colorado State @Texas (8/31/24 Prediction)

as they say around here Keep Austin Weird they're going to keep it electric today inside Daryl K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium home to the longhorse today we have one of those games at test your focus top 25 team against an unranked opponent can you take care of business as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the Colorado State Rams taking on the third ranked team in the land the Texas Longhorn for EA Sports college football I'm re Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing [Applause] started the LGH horns will get us started with the opening kickoff he'll start the return inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make to stop at the 19 so Colorado State's offense will get the first swing of the game and here he comes and you may think that you can take a wide receiver out of the game plan but Jesse with this guy he sort of believes I'm him I'm the dude yeah and he gives defensive coordinators nightmares too I swear when you watch this guy's highlight tape man he scares you to death with his speed he can take the top off the defense he can change the game David On Any Given play and so how many different ways can I continue to give him touches you know they're they're going to split him out wide I'd hand him the football I'd throw it to him quick I'd throw it to him deep this is a playmaker that will be featured looking to throw it's fower nikosi got his man on the right and good coverage by the defense just a short game I love early in the game getting my quarterback in a rhy coming out short passes easy completions now we're getting in a good spot and the Rams moving quickly to the line B snap it from the gun on third down he makes the connection a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver uh the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a football game this crowd trying to make life miserable for this offense looking to move it through the air and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down well missed opportunity on offense QB and receiver just not on the same page [Applause] there the incomplete pass leaves him with second down he's looking to throw just a short pass to the tight end well you hear all the time that the tight end's the QB's best friend you saw a perfect example of it on that last play right second down you need to pick up some positive yards to keep this third down manageable really nice job of executing that better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down they'll try to move the chains on the ground he's got first down yardage across the 50 they'll mark it at the 49 it's a really good sign if you're on offense here you're putting it on your offensive line on third down critical down and distance opening drive of the game let those guys fire off get a hat on a hat you can run the ball pick up the first you're around Midfield and all things looking pretty good here early for this offense might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game what those Big Fellas get laddered though picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second [Applause] down to the air it's Fowler nikosi he's got his man makes the grab and they wrap him up but not before he gets enough on the catch for the first down well it's a nice play design there you're getting the running back involved in the past game quarterback gives it to him early so he can go to work up field and get the first down the Rams will snap it on First and 10 he's looking to throw it fires to the big F and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job formt and the Rams H it quickly to the line he wants to pass it on second down and this sophomore is going to learn you can't force that type of pass very lucky to get it back defense were always trying to get some tips you know break on the football get a tip get it up in the air nice job by the player breaking on the football and force the incompletion this crowd full throat splitting the ear drums and letting him know it's going to be a long day he'll just keep slinging it nowhere to go with the ball and down he goes at the 39 and come on now oine you got to take care of your quarterback he takes care of you he's the one who takes you to meals he's the ones that get you those nil deals everything happens through your quarterback you got to keep him upright that is your number one priority the Rams will bring the punt team onto the field he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep make sure that there's not going to be a return on this one balls out of bounds and I think they'll mark it right around the 25 so Texas's offense will have its first possession of the game one way to mitigate the explosive capabilities he has on the outside is be physical with him and this dude will do that he will do that and you don't see a lot of offenses take the top off this D because of this guy roaming around in the middle of the field he is a true centered Fielder so this receiver is going to have to make plays I this just such a great job of getting guys on the ground a lot of people are in position but he makes plays so him versus a dynamic wide receiver on the outside will be a great match up didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking to pass It's yers Quickly complete makes a grab and he's dragged down the defense playing Zone coverage there they're taking away all the QB's primary options down the field so he has to check it down to the drag running underneath passing game very effective on second down what about here on third from the gun wants to pass throws to the wide out catch in the middle it's B and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up this dude is just exceptional in every facet so fluid such a great route Runner and a big play there and money down third down find him I mean you want to find that matchup because he's going to win and gets a good release gets down the field you see his that's your playmaker that's your guy get it to him get the first down one man in the back field and he gets it just what they were looking for and he's got him set up in business at the 35 with a first down every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first downs like that run right there and the Longhorns have their offense in high gear they'll ride the hot hand fakes his man out he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense this defense is going to have to do a better job slowing down the Run we've seen twice now in this opening drive this guy break one and so this defense has to do a better job at the point of attack and their de coordinator probably is already thinking to himself do I have to get another guy in the Box to slow this guy down they're trying to get to it there's a live football oh the offense very fortunate to fall on that football it's so hard to force fumbles and when you do you so badly want to get them you're crawling you're doing whatever you can to get there as a Defender but the offense fortunate enough to cover it back up the Longhorns are threatening on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage and I can't tell you how much I love seeing Corners being willing to come up and tackle that is so huge for a defense you can't Olay blocks and create space you can't just hang out on the outside you got to go set that edge and conversely I can't tell you how much I hate it when receivers don't want to block you got to do a better job on the perimeter it's not going to be enough in this offense just to catch passes you got to go execute your assignment that corner should have been blocked and they should have gotten a bigger gain on that outside run third and goal from way back [Applause] there dropping back it's ERS Let it Fly it's incomplete he was shooting for the end zone right there oh those are those opportunities in the game you got a chance to take points off the board make a big play and you just couldn't squeeze the interception that's what of those plays coaches come back to talk about say you think if we get this pick and we start taking this the other direction and we take points off of the scoreboard splits the upright it's good and with that they break the seal on the scoring it's three nothing this is a team that really Prides themselves on starting fast we've seen that before and here they are playing at home today nice job on the opening drive lots of poise good emotion they don't get the touchdown they would have liked but they kick a nice wheel go they've got the lead that coach has to be happy with [Music] that so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Colorado State takes over the ram offense returns to the field they'll run the RPO and pour it right and a pick up of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two well the short passing game is a great goto for any offensive coordinator in the first quarter because it's reliable but it also allows you to see how the defense is going to react to play so this can certainly open things up got the Quick Pass and he'll move his way forward to the first down they'll mark it at the 35 I'll tell you QBs and receivers they practice these out routes all week long and you've got to anticipate you've got to be comfortable throwing it before he gets out of his break and they executed it perfectly right there to pick up that first and the Rams want to move quickly hands it off a confident tough efficient run gets it up to the 44 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just [Applause] that nyd pickup on first down and now they can take a shot on second and short he'll run it again they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down well the offense is in a really nice Rhythm right now it seems like no matter what they're dialing up they're getting positive yards and it just feels so good as a play caller when you know on first down you can get yards like that turning around and handing off yeah and on the other side you're scratching your head going what the heck can I do here you got to find something the defense has got to find a way to create some momentum whatever they're doing right now it's not working so you got to keep going through that play sheet and maybe find something a little bit different that can give this offense something to think about and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play one of the things that makes this guy so dangerous is how good he is after the catch if he's got any space around him he's able to burst he's able to make people miss and get extra yards for his offense you saw it right there here on second and short trying play action right down the middle holds it in ripping off a good chunk inside the 25 and they're set up with a first down they knew they could slip that tight end behind the backers with that play action fake well it's because I can't win reys I I have to play the run you know all these rpos all these different things I it makes me come up and use my eyes and play run and these tight end are so valuable to find space behind knew where he was going with the football the whole time because the big fella he's always open they'll run it from the gun keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three [Applause] they go to the ground he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three yeah when you get penetration by that defense right away and there's no way to cut at all for that back he gets destroyed right away no way that play was going to be successful way too much penetration this crowd knows they have to bring it in big moments and one of those has arrived it's a draw and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here yeah that's a really good job by the defense cuz when you get in that third and medium area listen you got to be worried about the run and the pass did a good job playing both got it stopped now forcing a fourth down they'll send out the kicker to try to salvage this drive in is is perfect and the three ball gives us a tie [Applause] and we're all square as he's set to kick it away on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 fast motion from the offense got it behind the line it's B and they pick up just a few on that completion it's early in the game and as offenses try to get the Rhythm these easy completions are very important because that's what helps you get your feet underneath you as an offense and as a unit and hopefully as this game goes on they'll be able to rev up and get more aggressive taking shots they'll go to work on second down after doing damage on the [Applause] [Music] ground that one could really put the this drive into high gear as they have a first down at the 37 you know it's a nice throw by the QB there when we're throwing the running backs got to make it easy on so you want to put it right on their body make the catch simple and let them go to work like they did just there getting that first they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 wide receiver coming across in motion the give to the tail back will'll give him a couple on that that one second and eight coming up and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first after picking up a couple it's second and eight they'll go to the ground really nice stop there from this senior leader at the 42 yd L third coming up what are you ball is at the 42 yd line close to four down territory here's third and short dropping back it's ERS gets open down the middle good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch third down a lot of times it comes down to not not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most yeah it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe's and when my guys better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you off the play fake on first down to throw a shot toward the end zone and he's got it touchdown long hard really nice timing on that throw by the quarterback took his steps he itched he got rid of it quickly on the line put it on his guy running straight down the field and he's able to catch it in the end [Music] zone getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finished it with an explosive play in the passing game scoring from 47 yds out lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll bring it back from inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 final play of the the quarter coming makes the quick grab there to make the tackle and that's how we'll wrap up this first period while we're only through one these quarterbacks have been lighting up their stat line [Music] [Applause] they've swapped end of the field and we're ready to go in the second when with the running game on first down now back at it looking for a physical attack from the gun finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down well if at first you don't succeed try try again right it's been really hard for this offense in this game to run the football but they finally break off a big run there that could be the play they need to really generate momentum and get this run game done the Rams come to the line in the hurry up right back to the well they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you know when you're running counter those offensive lineman crashing down they've got to be able to pin those interior D linean they couldn't get it done there they gave up too much penetration that led to the tackle for loss lost one on that last one it's second and [Applause] 11 they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw offensive linemen love when you sneak in draws when you sneak in screens it holds these defensive Lin and accountable you want to rush the quarterback you want to fly up field every single play we'll sneak right behind you and get some yardage Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down to the ground to try to pick up the first he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs and the Rams are rolling down the field here's a quick throw out to the left they stop him just short of the first down but it will be second and inches coming up this quarterback right now is in Grove and he's doing a nice job in PR snap he's reading the coverage and he's getting a nice idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great brother to the ground with the back fighting off the defender that run epitomizes a veteran Savvy senior who knows how to find Space well the defense is on their heels right now they're going to have to find a way to stop this guy when he's got ahead of steam boys he is hard to bring down not the most productive half for this offense so far but finally starting to get it in gear first and 10 they're getting this guy lathered up he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him get in the back field to make that tackle for loss that was agressive not many hiccups on this drive but it's second and 13 [Applause] now now they'll run the draw they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one a lot of times those draw plays are successful when those defensive linemen run up the field Rush the quarterback create some holes not this time the defensive line did a really good job understanding that seeing the draw play getting the running back getting his but on the ground ninth play of the drive coming up but this one will be tough third and long pressure coming going to try to get it himself [Applause] now on fourth down they'll settle for a field goal try everything will have to be clean from 55 yds away and that is no good after that Miss still a seven-point game guys [Music] and here comes the Texas offense back on the field they Unleashed an aerial assault last time that took them right to the end zone David So ree with that drive I think you've accomplished something you wanted to accomplish make this defense think you put them back on their heels now shoot humble you might be able to slip a few runs in on this drive to really Jack him up yeah I like that idea but I also like the fact that speed need kills they've got it at the receiver position so if you got one-on-one matchups man take advantage solid pick up of four on first down and second and six they'll go right back to him that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there some third down conversions tougher than others this one a long one on third down from the 43 the RPO it's complete still running at the 40 oh look out and they are pushing the ball down the field a big pick up on that one the tackle is finally made well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game and the Longhorns trying to cash it in on first and goal motion from the offense turning to the running game on first and goal and he'll step into the end zone touchdown Texas Precision blocking up front created the open Lane in the running back followed it beautifully yeah it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the endzone what an unbelievable job blocking the front [Music] lining up to add another KCK on for the extra point and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and he got into the house from the six to finish it about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown to kick thisas from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position and returner will be dragged down we will see what this Colorado State offense can get done this time they've been pretty much stifled on offense so far David only able to muster three points in their previous three drives and you got to find a way to open this up and create some explosive plays like the passing game is obviously the easiest way Jesse put more speed on the field find those guys down the field you know they're frustrated too because they felt like there were some matchups they could take advantage of to get some points on the board early in this one they just haven't been able to connect on those opportunities but I like David's idea maybe move some guys around and see if you can create some better one-on-one matchups out across the 30 to the 39 after getting 10 on that one man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more the Rams will hustle to the line caught in the back field it's Horton they stop him almost immediately short gain there still a little ground covered pick up the first I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yard situations they'll try the right side runs through a tackle he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down you know as a defense you can have the right call and the right guy in the right spot but that guy's just too good and how about the running back on that play just making it happen breaking off the huge game it's tough to get these guys on the ground and the Rams are marching down the field they're going to go right back to him on first down and they try the middle of this Stout def defense and they rise to the challenge defense is about firing off hitting the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to run they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 looking to throw it's fower eosi got his man down the middle they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker and a really nice job on a wide receiver you run a drag routee find Space they're in zone coverage they're not covering manto man find a little hole look at that QB y'all get them the same page you could tell they were and that's why they got the first down debb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass a strike downfield they've got it inside the 30 they'll mark it at the 28 it's first down and on that third and short I don't think he was unhappy to see that zone nope was a great job by the offense hey see where the holes in the zone are sit down you only need a little bit of yards on this third down get the conversion move the sticks they'll leave it with him they'll pull him down after a pickup of five down to the 23 bring up second [Applause] down linebacker shuffling around trying to keep the quarterback from getting a [Applause] read they'll ride the running back and leave it with him going to be a gain of about three down to the 21 it's third down the Rams want to pick up the tempo they'll run for it on Third and short he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage keep the foot on the pedal if you're on offense or you got that yardage yeah you didn't get the first down but you've set yourself up now to go for it here and keep this drive alive and on fourth down here comes the field goal unit and it's a fake it's a fake Shuffle it to the tight end it's nice to be a Riverboat Gambler at all but man oh man when it goes against you it can be ugly off the play fake on first down the throw he's got it he's run out of bounds but not before turn turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down an explosive play to start the drive and they'll try to keep the D on its heels the give to the single back really nice stop there from this senior lead he's tack at the 48 y l second down picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second [Applause] down the playaction fake fires to the wide out got his man really good surge for this offense they move the ch and he's got it at the 34 hookham is hooking up with some big plays in the passing game yeah finding their guys down the field you think about offenses that Texas usually have some form of spread and then find those Elite guys on the outside that can win those matchups for you and make those big [Applause] plays grabbed behind the line it's Bond and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there up second down here comes the offense on second down from the gun the G looking for room miles ahead for a pick up of one to the 32 third coming if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum looking for a man it's yers looking to the big tight end he makes a catch they make the stop at the 5 yd line but they've got it first and goal and this defense is going to have their hands full because they're going to need to be comfortable with guys one-on-one on islands in the the perimeter of the field and they're just going to have to make better plays than what we saw right there they knew this offense was going to try to be aggressive got to need better effort in the back end for this defense moving forward we've reached a two-minute warning and they will try to build on what has already been a dominant first half performance the Longhorns line it up with a first and goal the snap sets up to throw fires into the end zone pass on the way it's picked off and after the interception and the turnover this defense has set its offense up for business never a good time for a turnover but it always seems a little worse when you're about to knock on the door of the end zone no doubt about it and it's this area of the field Rees where your execution really has to be great because down in the Red Zone the windows to throw into it for a quarterback they're smaller and they close a lot quicker so you really have to be on the same page as your wide receiver and that time the offense in the QB simply were not he wants to start this drive with a pass fires into traffic picked off and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception it's so nice to see Defender squeeze that pick skin a lot of times in great position you see there to make the play but there's a reason they play defense not this time great job securing the interception [Music] now on first and goal we score here and that mountain is huge if you want to make a comeback he'll try to get it in with the run into the end zone he goes touchdown longor another rushing touchdown that's now two on the game this offense thought they could come into this one running the ball being the more physical team and they look like it right now [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead that's exactly what you want to do when you have that Ty of field position strike quickly and they did one play and they put it on the board almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown here he comes from inside his own five and the returner could find no daylight he goes down guys will have another peek at this Rams offense they find themselves in a pretty deep hole here but maybe a chance to grab a little momentum and regroup at halftime yeah and he breaks into the open the 20 and he'll take it in and house it touchdown Colorado State Colorado State man nice job getting the passing game going this is big man going to the half and listen I know you're trailing but building some momentum maybe this second half we can keep airing the football out cutting into this deficit and who knows what the heck will happen lining up for the Pat is on for the extra point and the extra point pulls them closer it's 24 to 10 that one's going to get a little star mark besided on the play sheet One play explosive touchdown just like that they've got it down to a two touchdown deficit trailing by 14 and about to kick it away he'll bring it out it's balen rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 so Texas has it again and here comes the offense they'll throw it on first down trying to get to him off the deflection missed a great chance to force the turnover instead it'll be second down well you know what they say tips lead to picks and the offense there lucky that one wasn't intercepted and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense back to throw it's yers he lobs one high down the left side and it's incomplete after taking a shot on second down they're staring at third smart offensive coordinators they're going to throw deep balls especially those 50/50 balls you do about all the time my wide receiver is better than your DB well not on this play not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 looking for room it's blue and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down there's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half the Longhorns will call on their punt team the punter going to get his first work of the afternoon he only needs a sliver of daylight he was able to get that ball up to the 48 yd line before he stopped on the return Colorado State takes over the ram offense return turns to the field running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best players and get them the football on this drive you're down in the game there's obviously a lot of football left David but on this drive in this two-minute situation best players got to touch the ball and this could get into pressing mode right like you go into the half down a couple of scores it starts to the pressure really really mounts good opportunity to take some of that pressure off get some momentum energize this Squad going into half and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on quarterback could not have walked that ball and placed it into the hands of his receiver any better that was a perfect throw wide out deep down field you got to finish the play better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down catch in the middle it's Warren there's a timeout call as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer you know you don't see a lot of hitch throws against third down but if you're going to give the receiver access like that the quarterback's going to take it that was just way too easy comes out throwing on first down gets it out fast put it right on him sweet play good pickup and they'll move the change with the first down well this offense has come out slinging the pill they are throwing it they're trying to be aggressive we're only in the second quarter guys already this guy has over 200 yds passing and the Rams with the first and 10 he wants to throw it's caught downfield defense is there to make the stop but he's got the first down and they'll have it first and goal at the six and this is a really important series of plays a chance to cut into the lead just before halftime moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand not much a chance there he just had to get rid of it to avoid the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] sack time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half to the air it's Fowler nikosi and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one and go you can't hear yourself think on Third and goal from the gun wants to pass and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away for in the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here on fourth down they'll try to get something out of this drive before the end of the half he'll boot it from the left side and from this distance that angle ought to be fairly easy no no good guys have missed field goal and nothing changes still a 14-point game and that's just the Chip Shot that's just a field goal they got to make guys [Music] [Music] and holding on to the lead the offense will simply take a knee and that's how we will wrap up the first half no surprise looks as if they'll be content just to head to the locker room as the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our half time update fellas you've been calling a First Rate game so far from Austin today each of these two offenses has looked like well oiled machines but it doesn't take a genius to figure out these two passing attacks have run circles around these defenses man or Zone nothing seems to be working and I'm not sure that defensive coordinator is going to be able to figure things out here at halftime and with that let's get it back to our phyas at DKR [Music] the Rams will line up to kick off and start the second half Texas and he takes this from inside the five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the longhorn sending the offense back onto the [Applause] field grabbed in the middle it's Balden he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to [Applause] go the officials offered the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the [Applause] penalty going to run it it's blue crosses the 30 he's got a lane finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down this is going to be a big key for him David with the lead here in the second half running the football right staying on the field and bleeding the clock yeah run the football you're ahead you can be a little bit more conservative but again this opens up the pass this keeps everything in balance for this offense wide out in motion caught in the back field it's golden he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down BR up now on second and short after that pickup back to throw it's yers by firing to the right complete and just a short safe pass play they pick up a fear great play by the cornerback he was just way too physical at the point of attack he beat his man trying to block him and he tackled that receiver on the screen now staring at a third and short from the [Applause] 40 and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes hey third down and short you know the quarterback absolutely is going to be a part of the Run game the defense was not fooled flew up made the tackle stick that fist in the air fourth down coming and the Longhorns will try to pin them back with the punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it away here's the fair Catch and he'll make it close to the 20 yd line we will see what this Colorado State offense can get done this time you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up to Kickers execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but Palmer I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goals yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right now you just have got to be able to exec shoot it and the Rams are in the hurry up they'll Run play action unloads to the wide out he's got it he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense nice job there by the receiver on the out route not telegraphing where he's going he can't be peing to the outside giving the defender an opportunity to break on the ball he kept his eyes right down the field DB had no idea where he was going and that helped make that completion a whole lot easier one back in the back field and they'll give it to him and he'll run across the sidelines after the good game and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making a good run great job finishing with his BS got eight on first down now looking at a second and two power football with the run and he's almost to that first down marker there saying he's a little bit short they might want to bring out the sticks and measure but it looks as if he'll be just short of the first down third down in this offense is already in a world of trouble they can really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores off the play fake he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a [Applause] couple the Rams will line up to PL it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 here comes the Texas offense coming out on first down with the play fake and that ball is picked off he'll try to take it back he's at the 10 touchdown Colorado State a great return for the touchdown any return for a touchdown is a great one to a defense what a play by this defense with the pick six and how about the defender exactly what you're supposed to breaks on the football makes the interception everybody on defense we turn to offense go lay some blocks so my guy can get it and take it back to the house now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point is good as they close to within a touchdown 2417 that makes the score Texas 24 Colorado state 17 they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six he'll start the return inside his SP and the returner goes down and here come the horns they've got it again on offense the big thing now don't get rattled by that last last pick six David N it was a big mistake uh obviously the defense took advantage of it but you got to put it behind you Jesse I'm sure you know a thing or two about throwing a pick six and and had a rebound I believe I've only thrown one in my life but yes I do because of that singular instance I'll say this you can't let that play Beat you twice you got to go out not try to get it all back here in one play Just execute the offense the long horns want to crank the tempo wide receiver shows motion and a nyd gain on first down leaves him with second and short I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes who goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbox caught behind the line it's B drag Turf but not before getting the first down defense what are we doing how are you going to let that guy one of the best receivers in the entire country be wide open like that you're just making it way too easy for the offense and the Longhorns will line it up on First and 10 the run to the left they'll pick up four second and Six coming you know it's so important for offense is to want to keep third Downs management the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down after the productive first down play it's second and six dropping back it's your throws toward the end zone had it in his hands for the score and let it fall to the turf it'll be third down man it's so hard to play defense nowadays you got a strike zone where you can hit you get flagged for targeting you get flagged for pass interference that was beautiful great job in the end zone making it a hard window to throw into and when he caught it making him feel you it's caught nice job to pick up the first down and they'll spot it at the 42 we asked earlier this week who's your favorite receiver and of course he said the open one but we know who he really wants to go to on third down the best one I mean I think the open one obviously the politically correct answer but you want to find the guy that you got that great chemistry with you know exactly where he's going to be you got that Bond and that trust and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm they letting drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage six- yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four movement here from the tight end off play action grabbed in the back field it's hel and they're able to force him out of bounds after a short pickup nice route there by the tight end making it real easy for his quarterback to find an easy completion passing game very effective on second down what about here on [Applause] third they'll try to get the first through the air finds his tight in really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down well that down in distance the quarterback's got to get rid of it so quickly right he knows the defense is going to be bearing down on him so a nice job catching the gun snap and then turning and pivoting getting it out of his hands quickly and accurately to pick up the first from the 17 yd line it's first and 10 give to the running [Applause] back BR up second operation leading in the Red Zone here on second down back to throw it's yers he's got it on the Run goes out of bounds but they'll be set up with a first and [Applause] goal this offense in scoring position with a fresh set of downs it's complete to the left touchdown Tex hold it in and just kept right on running to the Hallelujah land no quarterbacks in receivers they develop confidence and chemistry as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead for the exra point and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring Drive and he found his way to the end zone from the seven Decap about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown Tas on the move from inside is five and the Return Man is stopped and that'll leave it up to the offense on the next Drive Line gets set first down from the shotgun the hand off to the back nudges to head for one out to the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 16 and the Rams in the hurry up to the air it's Fowler niosi gets it out quickly they make the stop but the sweet throwing catches plenty to give him a first down and I love love when you understand when I'm supposed to put some RPMs on that football you could tell he's thrown over the middle of the field he knows he's got Defenders there I got to throw this thing in there quick fast in a hurry nice job by the quarterback now on First and 10 from the 27 he leaves it with the back they'll Mark him down at the 37 it's a 10y gain and David how demoralizing does it have to be for a defense when you know they're going to run it everyone in the stadium knows they're going to run it and still you cannot stop it there's nothing more demoralizing as a defensive lineman because it just it ticks you off it gets in your head you you know that guy's going to come off and smack you and you got to do something about it I think the defense may be time to start commit more guys to stopping that run not worrying about the pass as much pretty good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked him a nice positive game making your situation really good on the next down got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four he's looking to throw finds his man it's Horton and he goes down after making the grab picks up a few but still short of the first down how nice is it in this offense to have your best receiver playing in the slot you're matching him up against linebackers against safeties or nickel Corners nickel Corners are often times the defense's third best cornerback this guy is virtually uncoverable on Third and short the power run here and there were some collisions in there and the D finally stopped him short of the marker the Rams decide to punt it away a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work so now the L horns take over and they'll send out the offense man what a drive last time for the touchdown that passing attack was Lethal David yeah and you know you hear all these stupid commentators like me and Jesse talking about create balance you run and pass no when you throw that good spin the ball around so the defense has to find a way to affect the quarterback on this drive because last drive he had way too much time to throw line getting set on second down and off from the shotgun you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs and he gets it out to the 41 41 [Applause] they've got it at the 41 third and short trying to keep the chains moving they'll try to pick up the first through the air got it in the middle it's Bolding boy did he look as if he was going to go gets it down to the 37 these two guys just on the same wavelength they make clutch connections all the time and that's practice man that's all summer that's all spring just so many hundreds and hundreds and thousands of balls where you know exactly when that guy's going to break you know he's a stud you're going to feed him especially on these third down situations looking to throw it's yers got his man quickly and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one this quarterback has been really good today they been on top of it seeing things really really well that pass right there put him over the 300 yard Mark that's a pretty good day the Longhorns look to keep this drive humming he'll come out throwing on first down caught over the middle it's balen and gang tackling on this dude is a good idea they needed it but he still got the first down they pick up the first down on the drag route good job by the receiver knowing it was man coverage if he's looking he's booking he gave his quarterback the eyes right away that says hey I'm not stopping put it out in front of me getting this first down the Longhorns come to the line with a new set of downs from the gun they'll try to impose their running game touchdown Long Horn and they take it in for six more points the offense strikes again to extend its lead here in the second half and they got everything working how great is this you extend your lead now you get your defense back on the field great job taking advantage of the situation and building on that lead [Music] he'll try to tack on one more exra point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead so that scoring Drive took only six plays and and the scoring play came on the 12yd Run lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 guys will have another peek at this Rams offense they're down by 21 points but you got a touchdown here and you do at least apply a little game pressure Jesse true I think for them to get back in this one at this point now they need the quarterback to play his best football he's going to have to be good really pre- snap David making sure they're in the right looks and he's got to be really good with his decision making he's got to be died in because defensively you're giving up points so it's not like you have the luxury for defense playing great the offense is going to have to score and score pretty dang quickly got him downfield just gashing this defense a big Gainer to the 40 yd line yeah and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go to the football had time spins the ball deep nice drive by this offense understanding what the defense is given them and creating the explosive play and the Rams racing to the line in the hurry up from the gun running back gets to give and you can forget running in the middle against this defense great team defense on that run play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D lineman staying in their gaps linebackers and DB's filling you just can't do it [Applause] better and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touched in a chance to show off their hands in the passing game one more quarter to play and it might be unlikely but a it's college football comebacks happen got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 quick strike complete he works his way inside the 30 down to the 29 and picks up a first down and that was a nice throw by the QB when you see that drag route coming across the field how about putting the ball right on his numbers not high not low where he has to stop his momentum right on the numbers where he can catch it keep running and chew up some yards after the catch and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup and a great job by the finding the running back getting the football where he can do some damage after the catch and most importantly get the first down from the 17 yd line threatening to score on First and 10 they're looking to pass from the Red Zone oh they had the screen all set up on first down and he couldn't make the catch looked like the offense had chance for a big play there but the running back just could not reel that ball [Applause] in and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down from the gun they'll try to impose their will he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple I love this linebacker because he's able to dissect what's happening in front of him and he reacts downhill uses his speed to get to the line of scrimmage and create the negative play seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down to throw it's fower niosi just threw that one away to avoid disaster well they take a shot down the field it's another incompletion it's really been that kind of story this defense has made this guy earn it every single play really small Windows to throw into one touchdown pass that's a little bit surprising you thought maybe they'd have more in this game coach has no choice here the offense has to stay on the field down multiple possessions this late looking for the end zone and that pass picked off and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own and that's a really good job by the defense understanding the situation of football it's fourth down it's late in the game you got a multi-p possession lead take away all the Deep stuff make them Force the football into coverage they do and they stamp this game and here comes the Texas offense back on the field there have been few obstacles for this offense as they are starting to pull away here in the second half Jesse and this has been a dream game for this play caller too right it's like anything that he's calling is working flawlessly yeah it's fun to be the offensive coordinator but not the defensive coordinator they have had no answers it's been an absolutely miserable day trying to Solve the Riddle of this offense six- yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four here's the handoff and he's knocked down but not before moving the chain well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive backed up at the 16 yd line it's first and 10 leaves it with the running back knocked down at the 26 after ripping off 10 there yeah and he's been dependable I he like just he's been a guy that they've given the ball a lot he's just been so productive giving this offense an easy way to move the football down the field 97 yards on the day and the Longhorns have it with a first and 10 the give to the running back from the shotgun really good job to pick up a chunk of yardage and get it out to the 39 yd line I think a big key in this team's success today has been their ability to run the football they've been able to just hand it off and go churn out yards they've had this defense on their heels all game long it's given them a big cushion in this game so far let's see if they can keep it up takes a hand off and he's going right he's knocked down in the backfield he'll lose a couple well the linebacker showing you readed and react he knew exactly where that running play was going and he beat the football to the line of scrimmage and force the tfl after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 standing the field it's ERS quickly complete and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one it's so important that this offense is able to stay on schedule and what that means is keeping third Downs manageable that last completion to the tight end accomplished just that really nice play call a third down try for the offense from the gun wants to pass they're bringing Heat that quarterback was doing his best Houdini escaping in the back field but the defense finally gets to it defensive linemen live to get after the quarterback to get sacks to get by those big hog mollies up front on the offensive line and say you taste [Applause] dirt the Longhorns will punt it away on fourth down on to kick it [Applause] away looking for a block it's Horton everybody stays in their Lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd line Colorado State takes over the ram offense returns to the field wasting no time throwing on this drive got it in the middle it's Warren he'll be stopped at the 41 but give him 10 on that play here's the deal you're down three possessions you know it doesn't feel likely they're going to come back and win but we've seen crazier stuff happen in college football it all starts with a big completion on a two-minute Drive they'll get the momentum started in your direction Red Pass it's complete he stopped just a chain link or two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully [Music] here the Rams moving quickly to the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] line the give to the back and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing on the great job of contained by this defense and in order to do that the end man on the line of scrimmage defensively has got to be able to set the point and force the football back into traffic and that's exactly what happened there offense in the hurry up he'll try to pick it up on the ground really putting together a threat now they get the first it's at the 37 how nice is it as a play caller when you've got a running back as good as this guy right I mean you can just dial up conservative run calls nothing has to be too tricky too fancy you just know he's going to go make good things happen even when it's not blocked properly he is still finding ways to rip off long runs this guy now has over 150 yards rushing in the game doesn't look like he's slowing down guys just gets rid of it to the running back underneath didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few and defensively this is exactly what you want right you got the big lead so you can play Big Zone coverages just keep the ball in front of you keep your eye on the quarterback rally to the football gang tackle you're going to win this game still some work to do after that last completion at second down back to pass it's Fowler nikosi he's right on target he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throw and catch nice job by the quarterback pre- snap and post Snap he knew the defense was going to be playing Zone coverage and there was no doubt in his mind where he was going with that football and the Rams getting set on First and 10 running back searching for a hole he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and when you play defensive end it's all about getting off the football you can tell gets off the football really fast Gets In The Back Field gets the running back before he knows what hit him what a play by the defensive end after that last loss it's second and 12 [Applause] he's looking to throw they're working that left side and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting Dynamic athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured this guy today on third down going up top finds his back in the middle and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker right there I think you need a better play call you got to help your quarterback out a little bit because the throw has got to at least make it to the sticks on that last play You're basically trusting the guy to make a few dudes Miss in order to go pick up that first down I think you need to start being a bit more aggressive here when these third Downs present themselves little touch pass to the receiver he is stopped short and they'll turn it over on Downs just a crushing blow at this point in the game from the gun give on the inside danced his way through traffic pick up for four to the 19 play callers love it offensively when you can run the football when the other team knows you're going to do it that is called imposing your will and here in the fourth quarter with the lead very first play of the drive you break off a nice run he might just call the exact same play right again here they'll keep it on the ground to keep this clock moving tackle is made but not until he gets the first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs keeps the legs moving he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and if I'm the running back I'm be like listen oine can you give me something can you give me some space to try to make somebody Miss and not have another guy right next to me I'm giving the offensive line an earful I need some holes need some space up front they got to do a better job after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 on the move it's blue they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short we reach the two-minute warning in this offense is that much closer to salting away a victory this is where you make the money on the drives ball at the 30 it's third and [Applause] short they'll try the Run shakes off a tackler and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chain really been impressed by the balance we've seen from this offense so far in the game but I think you got to give a lot of the credit to the running game because it's been able to freeze these defenses help set up play action they've been physical at the point of attack I think that really has been the key Force for this offense so far having the success they've had from the gun the ground game he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is the yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can create cuz why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down on the board might as well stick with him running with power they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks and this is exactly where you want to be as an offensive coordinator like when you've got the lead late in the football game just run the football eat the clock man they put a good day together they they they've had a they've had their way with this defense a lot of positive things to point to this is one of those weeks when you watch tape it's going to be really fun to watch it not like when you get beat up a lot of big plays from this offense and a short run there and that'll end it [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
