good evening everybody good evening Chiefs Kingdom welcome to the Chiefs digest live Q&A with myself Matt Derek and our good friend Nick Jacobs from KSHB 41 will be by in a little bit uh I see there's already a lot of you already in here and queued up and some questions ready to go so I won't waste too much of your time with any introductory remarks or any thoughts I'm sure that uh if there's any questions that you have about the news of the day anything the players and coaches have had to say this week any of the injury situations uh ask away we will touch on it all so uh I'm going to let you all drive the conversation tonight we go two hours we go two hours I I I'll stick around till all the questions are done but I'll I'll try not to to to meander too much this evening and uh try and get as much of the content and the answers that you all want so I'm going to let you everybody drive it tonight um 7:05 was your your kickoff time so I I will Mark that down um Jackie I'm gonna wait on this video for four and a half hours until my guys go alive wasn't well you in at 223 Jackie so you get you get the Kudos there for arriving the earliest so uh that is awesome I appreciate that L lutel appreciated that too I appreciate that lutel uh Dez one of our great members with their first question of the night officially uh what does a Bolton extension look like is it more realistic they would not pay Bolton and roll with Drew and draft a linebacker uh great question Dez and I don't think there's any doubt when when Drew tranquil signed that contract my first thought was are they planning on keeping Nick Bolton because they paid Drew tranquil a decent amount of money I mean it's not the highest paid linebacker in the league by far anything of that nature but there's a it's a big contract I mean uh if I'm not I'll look it up here in a second and get into it and everything but I want to say off the top of my head I know that it's like top 25 linebacker money um and remember you know I mean the linebackers are really weird you know because there's some linebackers that are three four linebackers so they're really Edge rushers so that kind of fouls up the market um uh when I had my one-on-one I get to talk to Brett V during training camp earlier you know we talked about that in regards to not only Nick Bolton but also with Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith because there's not a cender there's not a guard there's not a tackle you know a franchise tag so you have an offensive line and so that means that the offensive line franchise tag is basically set by the highest paid left tackles in the league and if you want to use the franchise tag you're going to pay a center or a guard left tackle money um that makes it almost impossible for you to use the franchise tag on a center or a guard same thing's true with linebacker and and that's one of the issues that the Chiefs will have that you know you really don't have the the T The Leverage of using the the franchise tag with a linebacker because you've got some three four linebackers who are classified in the same position as as Nick Bolton who's a 4-3 middle linebacker totally different job but once again the linebacker franchise tag is set by you know the highest paid Edge rushers who are three four linebackers so you know that's what you know another thing that's going to you know make it tricky but you know that deal it's for tranquil it's basically two years 13 million it's not like I said it's not a ton of money but $6 half million dollars a year for a linebacker is pretty good money um that's what you know kind of officially originally set off my alarm bells and it was like are are the Chiefs really going to end up paying Nick Bolton or are they going to be willing to roll with Drew tranquil um I I think now seeing what their plan is having talked to not not just Brett V but others in the organization I I have no doubt I mean they want to keep they want to keep Nick Bolton and the question is going to be you know what does Nick Bolton want and my at least initial feeling and I'm pulling up just the the linebackers in general right here and see where we tranquils uh I guess when you okay it comes in 34 for overall linebackers um if you were to consider him as just an interior linebacker uh which essentially I mean he plays outside but you know hey you're you're signing Drew trangle with the idea that he can be an inside linebacker that he can be Nick Bolton let's see where he comes in at there well he's not he's they don't have him listed on they only have list under outside linebackers but let me pull that back up and get his number off the outside page so and actually you know what I had the I had the value of the contract not the average annual value so let's let's do that again yeah he is at 24th in average annual value for all linebackers so or offside linebackers so that's that's pretty good money now if you were to move him and let's move him inside so then where does that come out that would make him on inside linebacker's average money he'd move up to 22 I mean he'd move 22nd inside linebacker um I mean it's it's the translates I mean you you you're paying Drew tranquil money to be either inside or outside you know you can pay him to be that on the outside it's not it's not an either or so what does a contract extension for Nick Bolton look like um there's I mean there's ran Smith at the top making 20 $20 million a year $100 million five years um if Nick Bolton wants to be M be making ran Smith money it's not gonna be in Kansas City if Fred w he wants Fred Warner money it's not in Kansas City um and I don't think he's asking for it I don't think get the sense that you know and trayon tray Trine Edmonds with Chicago's got that next one um$ 18 million per he signed a 4year 72 million dollar deal you've got those three guys at the top making 209 and 18 million per year basically over four or five years Patrick Queen's got a really weird contract his calculation is 13.6 but it's kind of not really I mean it's a weird number it's kind of out there in the middle and then you go all the way down to um Als shahir in Houston who's got 11.3 million that's where you're more talking about Nick Bolton and so I I do I don't know that the the injury with the elbow injury is going to affect negotiations for him that much but it could um it could cause the the Chiefs to want to wait you know and see how the elbow PL comes out and how he's playing you know with it um you know maybe they want to wait till after the season and see how he's feeling see what kind of a season he has I mean it's a risk because obviously if he has a great season then it's going to drive up the cost um but if the if the Chiefs want to get something done right now and are able to Dez I mean I I think you're looking at something that would make him take a top eight paid linebacker I I think you're looking in that 10 to 11 million range um for three or four years you know at that rate I think you'd be comfortable guaranteeing a pretty good chunk of it um if it was a say a 4-year 44 $44 million deal I mean I wouldn't be you know worried about guaranteeing like I said a decent chunk of that I mean even as much as you know maybe three quarters of that if you wanted to say it's a $44 million fouryear deal you want to guarantee three years I don't think I'd have a huge concern with that with Nick Bolton I think he's going to continue to be a reliable player um the Chiefs like him he fits in with the locker room he's important to the team overall so I I don't think I would have any problems with that it's and it's really going to come down to you know what is what do the sheeps really feel about Nick Bolton how much are they in love with him how much do they really want him uh to you know be a leader of that defense and certainly the middle of that defense and let's see I'm looking you were talking about uh pop it around you talking about the Logan Wilson deal Dez let me pull that one up and see um see if uh it's over on the other page of course um that was four years 36 9 million per um I think that's at the low end of what what Bolton would be looking for if you could get that if you got 36 million for four years Dez for for Nick Bolton I don't think the Chiefs would be would say no to that um Nick Bolton might say no to it but I think that that would be a a great deal um I think Nick's going to Lear a little bit more than that I think Chiefs are going to be willing to go a little bit higher but um I don't know how much more over 11 I mean I think in that 10 to 11 range I mean it could get to 12 but um I mean I think that's I get the sense that certainly in that 10 to 12 range is a number where the Chiefs are comfortable uh if it's less than that I mean I think they would consider it a pretty good deal so we'll we'll see we'll see what happens there Dez but um yeah I think you know we're kind of in the same ballpark there as far as the numbers go and I think he'll end up getting a little bit more than Wilson did but uh the injury is a factor for me and that he I'm I I I would I would if I'm the Chiefs I don't know I don't know how I would feel about maybe holding off on Bolton and waiting because I think that's a risk I mean obviously like I said if if he had if this injury this elbow injury causes him to miss some games this year and his numbers are down there's going to be some teams that are concerned about the injury history especially over the last two years and having two injuries on the the same arm and I don't get any sense whatsoever however by the way that the the elbow is an issue I mean he's been out there at practice if this was something that was going to keep him out long term and needed to be rehabed or surgery was likely he wouldn't be out at practice right now so um I I I I think that it's I think the Chiefs want to get it done I don't think that necessarily changeed with the injury I think they'd like to get it done does it change you know just how much money they're willing to commit to it how much they were going to guarantee let's see so uh mango can we get our weekly Nico rigio update please still looking good to make the roster I mean we're gonna find out a lot on Saturday and next week in that final week of training camp because um you know Nick and I were talking about this the other day starting to get into it this is this Saturday and next week are the really five or six days where a lot of things can change and a lot of things will change um you're going to have this game and there's going to be some players that the Chiefs have been getting a hard long look at that now they've seen in game action and they're going to be making their decisions okay is this guy gonna make the team or not if he's not gonna make the team he's not going to get any more reps they're going to start dropping him down if it's somebody that's going to make the 53 they're going to move him up if it's somebody that's a practice squad candidate they're gonna be kind of hey let's still evaluate let's make sure this the player that they're feeling good about um it's kind of the adage in poker you know you never call you always want to be you you you want to either bet or fold um and and that's where the Chiefs and a lot of teams are going to be after this first preseason game is that you don't want to just be undecided on a player at this point you're either all in on them or you're GNA fold so you know when we get the practice on Monday after this preseason game you're gonna see a lot of changes now your weekly update about niiko remio I would say he kind of unchanged I mean he had a I think he's had a good week of practice um obviously he's he's still running at the top on special teams is um the number two punt returner and one of the top two kick returners um all good uh his reps as far as with the ones twos and threes to my eye has been unchanged I think his performance has continued to be at a high level I think he's getting things done um the one thing I keep hearing I mean you don't you hear nothing but positive things about niik Rio and you typically the things that you hear are that you know he does everything right he's always in the right place he knows the entire Playbook he's got everything down he's a smart player um you know I I I I say on the one side that you know the Chiefs kind of feel like they know who Nico remio is so maybe they are getting some other players with some looks uh I'm I think that you're GNA see a lot of him Saturday night because I think you're gonna obviously see a lot of Carson Wentz you're gonna see a lot of Chris Ola doen um those two quarterbacks I think have had a pretty good rapport with Nico so I think that's why you might see pretty good game out of Nico um these next this next week is is pretty big for him so what are his roster chances I mean I I think it's probably about a coin flip it's going to change a lot either one way or the other after Saturday and going into next week because now you're making you're making your solid decisions here and you're either going to start giving him fewer reps because he's out of your equation and maybe you're thinking about practice squad or you're G to give him more reps because he's making the team and somebody else isn't um the really you know and I let's see I saw it further down maybe talk asking the question about um you know Nico not maybe getting as many up there you go KL um is there a reason Nico's reps with the ones have tailed off thought he'd get more with Tony out I haven't seen his reps tail off with the ones I mean are they reduced because you know okay some guys were coming back from injuries I mean Justin Watson's back now so you know Xavier worthy was out Hollywood Browns missed the practice to you know was it was it just mostly that he was getting a lot of work more more work because there were some guys out absolutely um but Tony wasn't getting enough one reps honestly to make an impact on Nico so um I think he's been getting the exact same amount of reps as he has been so that's not a I I don't think that's a you know a concern I don't really see that as an issue I think he's been getting about the same um probably haven't been hearing about him as much just because Nico's not a highlight reel he's not you know he's not making Justin Ross kind of plays you know that just are these you know catches that you just wonder how in the world he makes and he's not Xavier worth and he's not Hollywood he's not Rashid he's not making those ridiculous catches but he's just grinding and he makes this he makes the routine catches he catches everything that he can get his hands on for the most part um he's not just going to make any circus crazy one-handed catches or you know go up crazy skywise catch a ball because he's not that big um so I I I have no complaints about ni Rio I think that I I I think that he's been solid got I I think he's right on the cusp I would have him on the my 53 right now my my last 53 he was on it my next 53 I'm pretty sure I'll probably have him on it I would take him over caderas Tony I would take him over Justin Ross I would probably take him over Sky Moore but I don't think that the chief would right now so that's that's one I think micle harman's another that they both I think the Chiefs would take him over take them over him right now but there could still be I think hey I can still construct the roster with those two guys on it and ni to so we'll just continue to see as I'll tell Nick when he comes in later your mileage may vary so I didn't think LOL really show threw me under the bus Shar I I I knew it yeah I know LOL lol's hey we're we're we're cool I I'm I'm down on the the the you know the self-deprecation so we're all good there Sharon the question what would be the biggest surprise after Saturday's preseason game um good question I don't I mean obviously it's going to depend on the play it's going to depend on um you know who who who plays well who doesn't um you know and those are just things you can't predict I mean you can maybe expect some things and I certainly I think there's players I expect to play well um some guys that you expect to play well are not and some guys that you're thinking I'm probably not going to be impressed by this person might I think the one position I think that I would be the most interested in Sharon and seeing is I I don't know there's a lot of divided opinion on maybe the number three quarterback and I know that's not terribly important to most people and the number three quarterback might not even be on the roster might probably be on the practice squad but there's been some debate about whether the best third best quarterback on this team right now was Chris Oken and Ian book um even though the the reps are pretty divided evenly I mean old doen has a little bit more of an edge and um book doesn't go in front of Oken very often especially anymore so I think the the Reps speak for themselves that oken's the solid number three if we got to Camp next week you know depending on what happens in the game on Saturday and those flips and all of a sudden the in books the number three I mean it can happen so I I wouldn't I'm not betting for or against it but that's an example at least of something that I I I think would be a surprise um I mean I it's hard to to think about you know thinking about somebody just going in and just having a really bad game and not being a part of the the equation anymore um you're probably talking more about players coming out of nowhere and having a big game um the other one and I mean we're all we're talking about further guys down the list I mean to me we're talking about Sharon players who are on the wrong side of the cut line right now who wouldn't be on the 53 that could play them on to play themselves on um and and I mean honestly the other one that jumps out to me is Carson steel I think he's going to get a lot of work on Saturday because um you know that part of the depth chart is going to get some work generic Prince I'm sure will get quite a bit of work be interested to see what they do with Keon Ingram but I think the Chiefs want to see what Carson Steel's got I mean his ability to run the football if he could be a fullback what his strength is how he kind of handles contact um I I'm I'm I'm curious I think they would be curious to see how he's going to do so uh hey if Carson steel goes out there and has a great game maybe he plays himself into the conversation you know especially if the Chiefs decide that they want a fullback I mean I think it would be as a fourth running back um and in that case I mean LS re zamit could absolutely flourish I mean based on what we've seen over the last couple of weeks when the pads came on I I think he needs a lot more seasoning the Chiefs certainly think he needs some more seasoning but hey maybe he you know puts it all together and has a great night and forces the hand you know that's what Andy Reid says every year he said it the other day you know he tells the players is to make their decision difficult force them to keep you and that's what guys are going to try and do Saturday night so we shall see uh Mark s how has cam Jones looked cam cam Jones is one of my favorites I mean I I really enjoy watching him play watching him practice um I I think he's looked pretty good I mean the the Chiefs have used him but basically from my vantage point looks like all three spots uh you know he's not necessarily somebody that I think they you know would be at the top of the depth chart for middle linebacker I think they would prefer to have him on the outside um I think he's pretty well suited to be a weak side linebacker but his his coverage skills are decent enough that I think you could put him in that spot too but um I I've I've been impressed I mean I I've got him on the 53 I think he's pretty solidly on the 53 you've got your three starters you know with tranquil Bolton and Chanel I think uh Jack Cochran's next in line and cam Jones I think is number five now it's going to be competitive and I think there's questions about some of the other guys down the list and I'll bring those into the conversation ation uh well Mark that was your question too about can Curtis Jacobs make the 53 I'll go ahead and bring Curtis into conversation now um I mean barring injury it would be as a six linebacker and that's going to be tough I mean um the Chiefs have a lot of positions right now where numbers are an issue so I think it's going to be a challenge to to get a six linebacker on the 53 they've done it before they they did it last year so I can't rule it out for sure um especially because think with the new kickoff rules you're going to want to be a little bit linebacker heavy uh certainly seems to be kind of the philosophy of of Dave to and um you know the only thing I would say with Curtis Jacobs you know as opposed to cam Jones cam Jones is on pretty much the first team for every every special team so that's why I say cam Jones is to me almost certain to make this team Because unless that unless that changes dramatically unless he just has a absolute failure on Saturday and and suddenly drops off there um he's a four- phas special teams type player on the first team so is Curtis Jacobs there yet no he's he's getting a lot of looks though I I certainly get the impression that to likes him um he and and sey bosan are probably neck and neck for with uh with Steve spagnolo and Brendan Daly um you know I I would say that from the defensive side I think they that they favor Boseman a little bit I get the sense from the special team side they favor Jacobs a little bit so uh uh that Saturday's game can make a ton of difference you know one of those those players really balls out or even both of them um they can absolutely solidify their case and and make it strong so um I I I like Curtis Jacobs I got to talk to him the other day I did so since he has become my fighter as far as the first player on the practice field every day so I've got a profile of him coming up here later in the week that you'll all get to to take a look at so um you'll learn a little bit more about him I he's he's a he's a really sharp kid I was really impressed with him so we'll see um I mean I think it's gonna be tough for a six linebacker to make it but i' I think cam Jones barring a catastrophe I think cam Jones is on a 53 Jacobs and Boseman I I think have a little bit more work to do and we'll see what we'll see what happens but uh Anonymous mango is Nico number two punt returner but number one kick returner currently um I mean that's how they've been lining up at punt returner mle's been taking the number one reps Nico number two and I know I you know and some of that's going to certainly depends on how much you know players are playing on offense I mean I would imagine I mean right now obviously it would look like micle would probably be like your number five type receiver so you know that's not necessarily enough workload where you say hey mcole can't handle pun r returns I think there's a decent chance though that Nico's a better punt returner and a more reliable punt returner so we'll find that out you know in in the preseason that can make a difference if if Nico looks better as a punt returner he can win that job and become the number one player at that spot the kick returner is a little bit more interesting you're with the new kickoff rules you have two returners back and I mean right now the first team for the Chiefs we'll see what it looks like on Saturday night but the top two returners to have been the first first two guys back in every special teams period have been Nico rigio and L Ree zamit and I'm just still not convinced that that lwis reit's going to make the 53 because you know outside of kick returns not sure there's a whole lot more that the Chiefs are comfortable with him doing and I mean I've had people on the coaching staff just flat out tell me it's go it might take a year doesn't mean it's going to take a year but that he just needs more seasoning it could be a few months like I said it could be the entire season but you know it's a question of on this roster can you justify a roster spot for a strictly kick return specialist uh chiefa done it before I mean you know it wasn't that long ago traymon Smith was essentially just a kick returner um they didn't really ever want to play at cornerback I mean there have been some others but I think that's the the last you know clear traymont had an incredible season as a kick return to that one season I think he was a pro bowler um but yeah to me I I I don't know I mean it's got that's going to be tough if they think that they can justify the roster spot as just a kick returner then he's got a chance but um Nico uh right now I mean I would say he's he's at least the number two kick returner because he is consistently paired with with L Lewis ree Amit those two guys are the first ones back every single time um number two punt returner but I could absolutely see that see that making some changes there and everything so hey Seuss are the antennas working is that for a 38 spot for watching the game on Saturday night in Kansas City um that might be the case in a few other markets because I know that um NBC is not eager for any of its Affiliates and now Nick's in the Nick's in the green room so I can say this before he gets here and you know he won't have to worry about it too much but um there's a few NBC affiliates that that cover the carry the Chiefs game so um you might need to break out the the antennas and and a few markets around the Midwest to watch the Chiefs game I I suppose I know it's going to be on NFL Network too so there's other places to find it but uh yes make sure you can get 38th a spot in Kansas City so that you can watch the game uh it's easy to do I mean J you probably heard us talking about the other day on the podcast I've got a 30-year-old antenna on my office office in the TV here that U does a fantastic job of getting G getting getting things off the air and I prefer uh if I'm home watching a preseason game or a road game I prefer watching and on an antenna because then it's live and I'm not 50 seconds behind the discussion on social media so I watch Mo if I'm watching sports I I could try to watch it on an antenna if I can so lutal what are the odds that tuny Creed and Trey are all back next year um and I'll I'll as always I'll just tell Nick that you know when he's in the green room now give me a thumbs up when he's ready I don't want to bring you in too early but um I still think it's going to be tough I know there's been a lot of you know Rumblings out there and I saw the Pretty Ricky reference too um talking about these contracts there's I would say they're low lust because you included Joe Toney in there I think that's be the tricky one uh we'll see what you know what the Chiefs and Joe want to do at the end of the season I mean remember he's got a $6.9 million cap hit next year um they could save 16.9 million of that by moving on um obviously if they were able to sign Creed and Trey they've they're going to need to get cheaper at some other spots they just drafted Hunter NORAD to to take that spot potentially if needed and I've I've been decently impressed with NORAD I mean I think he's looked good I think he's exactly the kind of temperament and and fits in well with the locker room chemistry wise I I get no sense whatsoever that the Chiefs have any concerns there so I think they'd be fine and that's not even you know talking about Mike Kendo who will probably I guess I I assume will start Saturday night in in Joe tuny spot there at left guard he's an option as well so you know I think ton is the one that would make me say that it's low I think below 50% yes the Chiefs want Creed and Trey back I would love to have them back uh the tricky thing is is that Creed is going to get paid top of the market money at guard which means I think you're talking for for creed or Trey excuse me a minimum of 20 million a year I wouldn't be surprised if he gets 22 or 23 um Nick has talked about it the the free agent guard Market looks terrible this offseason and and Trey is going to probably be the best guard on the market uh so barring an injury yeah I mean I you know if he decided to to to wait until after the season as a free agent during the offseason he could really make some Bank he's I think the opportunity is there for him um Creed the question and I think all along has been the question is what does he want to get paid because you know centers are not paid like guards the the Center Market hasn't exploded yet and to bring that you know just to point that out I mean right now Frank ragn now with Detroit's the highest paid Center in the league at 13.5 million and you can have a decent fight on your hands arguing about whether Frank ragau or Creed Humphrey is the best center in the league I think it's Creed but your mileage may vary um the top guard Market I mean 13.5 million per year would right now make you the 14th highest paid guard in the league um Landon Dickerson's the highest paid guard at 21 I mean if if Creed indeed ENT were to enter the offseason free agent market and he's the best free agent guard out there 21 or 22 million is conceivable I mean it absolutely is it's in the ballpark so you know the question is can you get Creed done before that or can you get done trade done before that and what's Creed gonna ask for because it's a little bit like the Chris Jones situation in that you know you remember that deal was that the difference between what Aaron Donald was making and what the second highest paid defensive T defensive tackle was making was about $7 million I mean this is what we're talking about here is we're talking about a huge difference between the highest paid Center and the highest paid guard it's a difference of what did I say7 A5 million dollars between the 13.5 and 21 um and if Creed and his agent want to say we want to make guard money not Center money then you've got a gap there you know you got a $7 million gap to try and figure out where CED Humphrey is going to sit and that's the only thing that that I know like I said I know there's been a few reports out there that maybe a deal is imminent in the next couple of weeks and that you know both sides are hoping to get something done by the beginning of the season I mean maybe it happens maybe it does but I I know there's some little bit little bit of concerns because I'm not sure that the negotiations are as far far along as of the reports indicate and I'm not sure that the the talks that they have had are as substantial about the money as or have been but I I do get the sense that yes that Creed will want to be the highest paid Center in the league he's not going to be making 13.5 million it's going to be more than that question is how much more and does that impact then your ability to pay Dre Smith I I know I've I've already used that my of your mileage May varies tonight even before Nick got here so but I think it's just going to be a tough question and that's going to be tough to tough to figure out so uh Jesus Gruden yes John Gruden was here and I know I know Nick's a big John Gruden hi aren't you aren't you a John Gruden fan oh yeah man watch split split banana white go welcome to the conversation Nick how are you doing tonight I'm uh I'm good so you're talking about John guden H uh he was there he was there at practice there ging the day I think this was day three Nick I mean he might John guden might have a house in St Joe I don't know this is it's starting it's starting to feel a little bit like the the bashad breelan year where bashad Brean came in the camp and I I I was pretty sure that bashad breand at least had a trailer somewhere in town because he seemed like he was he was a St Joe resident there for a while I uh I don't I don't believe that's the case but am curious if John has a uh dorm room he is able to reserve for the week or so I bet he has a bus that he can sleep on that was a that was a slide reference for all of you uh you know rally bus lovers out there I knew what you were talking about I I picked up what you were putting down I got it yes so uh it was interesting so I don't I mean John and John and Andy go back away so no big surprise there and weren't you glad Nick that you're sitting there in the green room and you're hearing me talk about the the the Trey Creed and Joe tonei contracts because I know that's one of your favorite questions that we we talk about every single week no I mean we did a whole podcast on it so you can go back to that 4 should have told you we can do a different variation of it because Chris wants to know who would you pay next you've paid Harrison buter you already you already know who I'd pay you'd pay Creed no you didn't pay Trey there you go there you go I was pretty sure it was Trey but I wasn't I wanted to see if I could I I I I could surprise you well I mean you you you surprised me yes wasn't what my thoughts were and I don't think there's I mean I don't think there's a wrong answer I mean to a degree but I I do think it's going to be just like we've been talking about it's going to be how much money does do both those guys want and if you can get them both done or not and that is going to be tough um Dave has the question that we all want to know and we'll ask Andy Reid again on Wednesday and see if he has a different answer than he did Monday which was that you know six days out ah he hadn't given any thought whatsoever to who was gonna who's GNA play what on Saturday which I guess everything is true from a certain point of view Nick look when the last day of practice is his day where he lets people know what's going to happen there you he's not breaking his tradition he's not breaking his thing so I mean you know to tomorrow will be the day he'll let us know how long the starters are going to play and then he'll let us know when the twos go when the threes go and it may not completely match up starters may do so well in one whole drive or two whole drives he says yeah all right that was fun you guys go back to the sidelines now H how much would you play the starters on Saturday Coach Nick two drop and getting the heck out of there I don't care if it's good or bad you're getting out of there after that I I I mean looking back at it the last couple of years I think obviously the the pattern would be momes for a series um you keep the offensive line out there for a series with Carson Wentz maybe a few other starters or you know you got a lot of a lot of first team receivers that you can rotate around and get out there with both of them and then you know Carson wins maybe a couple of series with the that would at least be consistent with what they've done in the past so and then obviously the majority of the game is going to be played by guys who are fighting for roster spots anybody anybody who's playing the first two drives and then is out you could pretty much book are on the 53 and anybody else who's playing the rest of the game is fighting for a job am I wrong for the most part they want to get them snaps to because that's the most snaps they're going to get other in special teams during regular season yeah there might be a few rookies that they they do I'll be interested to see what they do with Kingsley you know it did occur to me earlier talking to to Ryan Tracy over locked on Chiefs that you know I mean we haven't seen Kingsley play second team left tackle in a while but he's done it so it wouldn't be the first time he's ever gone out there with the second team so if he they let him play a little bit deeper and play with some of those guys it wouldn't be the first time it wouldn't be like weird or he who are you anything like that so maybe they will will give him a few more snaps rookies could be and obviously there's a lot of people they want to evaluate special teams so we will see but uh yeah it's that's kind of part for the course for the preseason yeah um Suzanna do you think that the laterals Travis does are all him or do you think some of them actually might be scripted into a game does Andy approve what do you I'm curious on your thoughts here Nick oh you have some video of Tris Lal of it it's from today just from today yeah I I can throw that up while we're talking about Travis laterals though talk about so y um yeah so in general um yeah with with with Travis anything I think he just does it I don't think that there's necessarily something that they're trying to do it specifically in practice I mean Travis is always looking to do it he liks to keep people on edge sometimes and he's admitted that many times before in interviews that he likes to have fun he likes to do it and if he comes up he wants somebody to be ready in the game situation for that opportunity I'll see one every once in a while Nick that makes me think that maybe it is scripted you know that it's just set up too well I mean but I also know he can read the field that well so it's it's he makes it look pretty natural there are there are some that stand out it was like okay no that was that was Travis being Travis uh but you know hey you see like a a running back coming down the sideline and trailing be behind him and you're thinking well I mean that was set up pretty well for a little Hook and Ladder but I I I would assume that 80% of them are at least are just Travis being Travis as far as does Andy approve I kind of feel like Andy approves if it works but you better make sure it works because if it doesn't Travis is going to get one of those looks that he talks about on the podcast and that look I mean I haven't seen that look I think I've seen I think I've seen the media version of that look Nick but based on what I've heard from players you do not want to get that look from Andy Reid uh W and MB if they decide to pay Creed and Trey and let Bolton go can Cochran step up or would they draft I mean in that scenario Nick if they let Bolton go I mean you've drw tranquil for a reason I mean I talked about with another answer question from Dez at the beginning about you know Chiefs you know what a deal would a deal look like for Bolton or would they go with Dre with Drew I mean they've got Drew tranquil in the barn as a as a as a plan B right yeah Drew tranquil is the insurance for it and then cam Jones and is somebody else that I think they'll try to give a long-term look to as the time as time goes on and then uh we'll see what Curtis Jacobs can do where he could align but no if they if they move on from Nick Bolton from a financial perspective I'm I'm just going to tell you the reality right now jack hawr is not the one playing the middle linebacker spot in 2025 like he may do it because that's what they have to do to get through 2024 if Nick Bolton has an injury or they like where they have tranquil at but in terms of a long-term thing they're nice kit let see um I've not got to watch all this yet so this is from today actually it my Justin Ross to sense is that I mean in in my eyes has his chances got to make the 53 gone up yes they have is do I feel like I'm seeing something different I can't really say that I am I mean I think I'm seeing the this typical same Justin Ross which is a an absolutely phenomenal athletic talent that can make absolutely amazing catches thanks to his physical gifts but I'm just not seeing the things that you see in a consistent NFL receiver I don't see consistent separation I don't see consistency um I mean those are I think the two things two things that you have to have as an NFL receiver Nick if you can't get open and and you don't do the same things every single time you're not going to be a success and I I just I just see the same old things and it's not I mean I don't know I mean I I know that the Chiefs could remain enamored with the talent so maybe I shouldn't even be discounting his chances to make the roster maybe I should just assume that he's making it I mean he he mostly takes ones and twos reps um but I mean I just I don't see him making the plays that some other players make and I I have some even concerns that even the spectacular plays that he makes are plays that would Pro maybe they would be routine for another player because like I said he's not consistently getting separation so great I mean he can he can go up and make a contested catch should it have been a contested catch or should he have been open I mean hey I will I will always defer to the chief's judgment on that one they got they've got more play people in that organization with better eyes than I have and I mean my two cents doesn't matter a whole lot but that's my two cents of watching Justin Ross practice for a couple years and seeing every open practice that the man has been in so well I'll I'll answerer it here in a second but for people that want to see how lightning quick chrisan swim moves are because we're gonna do this do it watch it it's gonna be the next one I promise but just watch like Tre Smith like where did he go just watch how quick the the club swim is oh my goodness and that's one of the better guard in the NFL yeah just so you know you're not there's not many places you're going to get this up close where I use the extender lens to isolate on defensive lineman Chris Jones is something else I made sure I got some Mike penel some Chris Jones Neil frell will be coming up here soon so uh I guess some of that too and I can't remember I think I got Felix this day I don't remember but I shot isos one day so um to answer the Justin Ross thing look like I mean I'm I'm gonna say the same blanket statement every time no matter how many times I get asked um Justin Ross is a fade route wide receiver so like red zone is where he gets most of his usage in practice and with momes it's normally going to be somewhere in the back of the end zone where he can use his height just like a tight end so momes is throwing some Fades to him Mahomes typically doesn't doesn't really throw a lot of Fades or doesn't necessarily like to throw a lot of Fades for the most part so like Justin Ross did really fit whenever R m's on the field with Carson Wentz they could run some verticals with him and let Ross get up the speed and throw it in the Bread Basket there on some of the one-on ones or whenever they do some seven on sevens um but the thing about Justin coming out of college that people don't people continually keep forgetting is in this Andy Reid scheme there are a bunch of routes you run on the route tree there's a lot of a movement you do a lot of double moves a lot of option routes off of it and for Justin Ross the thing that I when I was watching his college tape he needs 10 yards to get up to Top End speed like to get to his top end speed he needs a 10 yard Runway to run and that's where verticals come in that's where potentially fade routes come in is a straight line is when he is at his best but he doesn't have the speed of a Xavier worthy or Hollywood brown or that type of thing people keep getting enamored with them because they they're like oh you can jump ball throw it to him well if Mahomes doesn't throw a lot Fades inside the 20 like you know that's okay so then can he play can he be on the special teams does he play a lot of special teams can he be a gunner because then those are the things that are going to keep you on a roster not just if you can throw a paade to him because guess what mams throws that to Wy already like he can already throw that to Wy he can throw that to Travis so there's two receivers that he can do that with When Ross has been on the field with momes he's normally looking for him in the back of the end zone to just Loft it up to him and it's normally inside the 20 so I mean if you remember in Minnesota it took Ross when he caught that dig route on one play it took a little bit for him to get up to speed and do the cut in and Mahomes throwing the ball if I remember correctly he got hit and he I can't remember if he dropped that one or not and then I know people got enamored with the vertical rout he did where Mahomes threw it outside shoulder um for him against the Vikings but all those were against the Vikings so I think his route tree of what he runs is a specific set of skills to you know speak like Liam niss and I think that's where his wheelhouse is I think that's where where his wheelhouse has been so I mean in saying is he getting better I think he's always been a certain type of receiver Carson Wentz is willing to make some of those throws and doesn't necessarily have the same receivers that his availability that Mahomes does so I mean that's that's kind of the reality whether he does or doesn't make the roster we'll see but I'm just telling you like that's the reality of what's what's going on there yeah and I mean I I wholeheartedly endorse that I I can agree because you know a lot of the a lot of the highlight plays that you see with Justin Ross are in zone Fates and you know that's a skill I mean I'm not taken away from him that is absolutely a skill is it enough to justify a roster spot you know that's GNA be the question that the Chiefs have to face and obviously there you go there's Justin Ross right now potential last year was was enough for them to keep him so maybe I should even be discounting his his chances I mean they kept last year maybe and I know but that's a crazy thing this team likes about nine different receivers neck I mean this team hasn't given up on Sky Moore this team has not given up on cadarius Tony they have not given up on Justin Ross um you just I just don't know how you you put them all on an NFL roster and certainly not if you also want to keep like a guy like Nico ramino where Mahomes and him are testing those things out now so when they get in a game situation he if he need if he gives him less Runway he's okay with it but this is kind of where they're testing out two preseason games is where he's going to get a lot of the heavy lifting and you can valuate who he is he's some of reps he's not going to get behind the best offensive line and if he's still able to get three or four or even more yards than that then I think they may have something there and then from a special teams perspective we'll see there right there Gillespie from aou um and then oh and then I captured this this this thing here coming up here in a second I'm gonna wait for it to pop up I can't remember how long I followed Gillespie and then V is asking Nei hey what were you doing on the is the potential there I mean I think it is I think you put it very well though I mean he's it's just the type of back that he is I mean is he he's a he's a hybrid I mean to a degree I mean he's not strictly a a traditional halfback he is much closer to being a fullback but I'm not even sure is really fully a fullback he's a bigger bigger back obviously but I mean I think he's just he's he's a tweener both ways and so I don't know I mean it's we'll we're gonna find out I mean that's absolutely right I mean that's what the preed is for is to see what he can do I've been impressed with his blocking if the Chiefs wanted a fullback back in this offense he's got the potential I mean he's a very he's a pretty good blocker um can he run the football they're going to find that out I mean I think that there's a one of these preseason games whether it's Saturday night or game two I think you're going to see an extended period of time for Carson steel to just see what he's got right and then we're going to find out so right watch out if you're Carson steel fan you're gonna get a healthy dose of Carson steel at some point here pretty soon it's gonna be a Carson steel preseason for you and yours all three that's right and steel may be battling against IR Smith Jr for that roster spot to where maybe he's the fourth running back and er Smith who potentially would be the fourth tight end that maybe a situation right there where those two are actually battling each other for a roster spot and Antonio how many games rice received in exemption I think you're asking about possible um suspension um nothing do it yet I mean we we we'll see what happens but I I still don't think he's going to get suspended this year I mean we'll see what happens with the legal process that's what has to play out but we'll find out uh Brian when do we make the first cut well here's a notable thing and Niki Nick Nikki pointed out right behind you yes there's just one cut day now so August 27th 3 pm is the deadline to have your rosters down to 53 players so all the fun and I say fun I mean it's the most depressing day in the NFL calendar um because that is the day that some NFL careers end some guys dreams come to an end it is my least favorite day of the NFL year Nick and is all the time it is what the bus EST 24-hour period in the NFL too because you have all this movement you have the players letting go of now it's one cut day so I mean and some teams will get a head start on it they'll they'll raise play you know a few players or wave a few players a few day you know maybe a day or two ahead a time you know they can start doing it really right after the preseason game so you know those are going to be one on Thursday night this year and this is a Tuesday so you know you got a few days the teams will start making the moves but uh it's yeah it's just a crazy 24 hours because obviously after that's done then you've got the waiver per claim period coming to an end and then teams can start building their practice squads so it's crazy but you know the other the big part of it is there's a lot of guys who just careers in that day and it's never easy so um Dez is the smoke around getting Creed and trade done before the season real um I good question Sayes I mean I don't I'm I'm I don't know um I I know that there is significant interest from all parties in both both situations of trying to get something done just not sure how close both sides are so I I don't know uh I I think there's some there's some different narratives going around on this about just how close it is um I I I know like I said I know the Chiefs are are definitely committed to try and get deals both done with both of them but as you're told it takes two to get a deal done it can't just be one side so both sides have got to get something done and I like I said earlier I mean unless the Chiefs are offering a certain amount of money to both these players I don't know why I I mean I don't know that I would sign I mean if if I'm Trey Smith and the Chiefs offer me $18 million a year Nick I'm not sure I take it if I'm treat Humphrey and the Chiefs offered me let's say 17 million a year I'm not sure I take it I mean both those guys could make more money if they bet on themselves potentially now they could also make less money if they get hurt so your mileage may vary it's the last time I'm gonna say that tonight Nick you're here so I'll say it for you but I I don't know and and and what I've gotten the sense of is that I think that the interest on the team side in getting something done before the beginning of the season is much stronger than is on the player side but that doesn't mean that something is not going to get done B I think you said it perfectly and there's was done so yeah he wasn't he wasn't hurt he was just like I'm done with practice give me a ride and it wasn't even a medical card he was just one of the security guys took him up so on the Gators so if you're if you're going up on the gator you're you're not usually hurt but okay thank thank you for clarifying so I appreciate that makes more sense now um yeah I mean look with Sky I think I think Romeo is a better receiver than Sky I think sky is kind of reachable ceiling's going to be in this offense if they keep him they keep him there's not much I can do about it um it'll you know it'll just be a guy that's there and with cadarius Tony I mean I'm sure they got some packages for him as a run back I'm sure they got some packages where he'll play receiver maybe be the kick returner OPP returner but for kader it's all about staying healthy I mean I expect I I mentally am expecting cadar Tony to be on the roster but am I expecting him to make an impact no I'm exp him to get hurt a lot evolves thoughts I mean I'll say it again I mean like I mentioned earlier that's the only reason to at this point keep lrz is for a kick return special there's not a whole lot else that that he can do right now doesn't mean he can't do it later but he just can't do it right now am I wrong Nick for me he's practice one like that's where he's going to need to be at he's going to need to do year to develop like as a running back he he's he's not there in terms of seeing the hole and like being able to to know when to to have a good feel for it when to cut when to go when to bounce it outside I just don't think he's got a good feel for that right now and he's not supposed to because he's literally been playing football a handful of months so like I'm I'm not knocking him on where he's at it's just it's realistic I think a lot of people had a lot of high hopes and a lot of excitement for him but he's just starting out in his NFL career and like he honestly needs to be on the practice squad I know people are concerned and say well then somebody somebody may may claim him and put him on their 53 and then they're going to see that he's got a ways to go and then you know then they'll probably wave them and then you know like or somebody may put him on their PR what if they do they're going to have to wait just as long to develop them like he's got speed he's got speed and that's about it everything else he's having to learn and it's going to it's going to take him a long time to learn all that uh can't agree more I mean that's that's where it's at uh jimmies tranquil looks at dudes like they broke into his mama's house and stole food talk about how that Stacks up with spags comments on toughness and fake toughness today uh I mean there's no doubt I mean Drew tranell was really being a puppy's fault and now he's in Kansas City where he's got you know coaches who are like hey Drew be yourself and last year maybe he didn't believe him at first but now he does and he's just being himself and I this this dude that you're seeing right now I mean I think spags loves him even more than he did last year which he loved him just plenty last year yeah I mean with somebody like tranquil part of it I think is just he was the new guy on campus so like he wanted to get comfortable see how things operate around here see how guys handled themselves and kind of where he fit in and everything and and now that he knows that and he's got long-term Financial Security with this organization they invested in him they believe in him and he's got to taste what a championship looks like and the level you have to play at the intensity you have to have because before this he'd never won a playoff game like he he hadn't been a part of a playoff winning franchise he hadn't been a part of a AFC Championship winning franchise he hadn't been a part of a Super Bowl winning franchise guess what he bucket listed all three in one year with the Chiefs and that should be on a pamphlet for anybody that's thinking about coming to the Chiefs and free agency would you like to would you like to experience this this and this well come on down to Kansas City where we got barbecue and championships um I can work on the pitch if they want I thought it was pretty good personally Matt but no like yeah tranquil look I mean he wants to be one of the leaders of this team he wants to be a fire starter let him do it there you go uh misso 19 Nico catches everything he had back-to-back drops today with wi at Oken then got beat by Watson resulting in an INT not hating on him but let's be real um I I remember some of that missou I I may have seen some of a little bit differently but you know hey that that's nature of practice I haven't seen the film yet uh the and in the replays of it to so I can't cosign on completely but even even graning the premise there um I'm I I get it that's not that's not hating it it is it is being real and I mean I once again I mean that's why I continually said and I think nickel back me up here it's you got to have realistic and and expectations in context because I've been all along like hey Nico's been at OTAs was the best receiver on the field well Hollywood wasn't there that day and Rashi wasn't there that day uh worthy wasn't there that day so yeah it was a little bit easier it was you know to be the best receiver on the field and he had some really good days I'm not gonna be the one to tell you that niik remio is gonna be a thousand- yard receiver not gonna do that I mean I've already said my comp is Albert Wilson that's a compliment Albert Wilson was a kind of role player that any team can have need and use I mean that's a that's a useful receiver I mean not to be too blunt on anybody but Albert Wilson his worst year in the NFL was better than at least three guys in that receiver group last year maybe a lot more than that so I think I mean just as long as you've got I think reasonable expectations about Nico you are going to be pleased here's where I'm gonna go on my rant for the night so 15 me missou 19 is going to be the one have to deal with it's not his fault it's not his thing but came up in the comments for people that want to understand how hard that was right there um this is from just a so what I'm going to do right here is I'm going to go wide so I can find where the heck the football's at and then I'm going to do what we call a rack it's a rack zoom and I hit it to where at the point where we zoom in you see a catch and it's kind of like trying to do a movie effect with a camera so I I'm just saying trying to do this takes to I used to try to do this for a while and I couldn't do it so this is one of the first times I did this I was pretty pumped about it um t t right there catches it and smoothly goes with it so anyways sorry I was happy about that put never a to do that I'm going put that on my foot my row but getting back to my rant now there are 91 players if healthy on the football field on a given day and the thing I had to learn over time of covering the team from 2011 till now and I've I've made peace with a long time ago is I can't watch every single player that one person is interested in so I can only look at who makes the plays whenever I'm shooting video of it or if I'm watching something if there's somebody I'm watching a seven on seven or if I'm watching the player I'm watching o line oneon-one that's what I'm able to watch so like this expectation where everybody expects us to be able to evaluate 91 players all collectively on the field in a moment's notice of just watching it there's a reason coaches have coaches fil because they go back and watch everybody we don't get coach's film we have to watch it live and have to try to make our assessment in real time or here where I have some tape and I can go back and watch some parts of the stuff that credential media can shoot but again I still can't see everything of every single part of the day that happens so what I'm gonna say here is okay nicoo R may have had some drops guess what I may for me hypothetically is a phot talk I might been shooting o line dline oneon-one so I have no idea that that happened over there whenever I'm f talking at that moment remio alert but beat me to it um but so that that may have happen and I and and I will have no idea oh great interception here um yeah my Keith that was that was one of those fancy interceptions right there I'm gonna go back there just because I was impressed in the moment when he tipped it to himself total Pro right there okay proo did his own jump ball uh did his own jump ball drill for himself oh no I did not go back far enough I apologize this is all this is a me problem not a you problem look at that t yeah that was impressive I remember that was impressive yeah but going back to my rant I get distracted again I hate when that happens but with uh with the guys I mean there's there's only so much we can watch at a time so that's that's great you're able to keep track of him having back toback drops and the interception and you you were able to you were probably able to see it because there was I don't know five six seven cameras recording it wouldn't be stunned if it was during a team drill where we can't personally record and you were able to go back and kind of review that stuff and see that type of stuff and that's great that that's out there and you have that element to be able to see but I don't know I just I think sometimes that people expect us to be able to keep track of all 91 players in a given moment and be able to properly analyze what this guy's doing with that doing hey I can tell you right now there's some guys up there you know they're not you know we're not we're not NFL Scouts like I do the best I can with what I was taught about football there's some guys up there that you know they just enjoy being there for the journey like you know but like I just I don't know I just and I hate when people try to put us against each other and say well this person said this this person said that okay what they observed is what they observed that has nothing to do with me they' been been watching a different drill than I was at that moment who cares you're going to find the sources trying to pet us against one another like we're you know like we're in the I don't know the what would you call it the Coliseum Gladiators the Gladiators I trying to think of the movie name like you're trying to put us like we you know Spartacus going against somebody else's a gladiator like stop I don't have time for the nonsense all right that's my rant move forward uh it's a good rant I'm not I I'm you know I'm I'm on board with you I and I'll I mean I'll add this and once again missou not not personal here at all I mean it's just Nick Nick Nick started the conversation wor adding on the true Trinkle of the conversation I love that that's a good comparison for you mizou that's that's that's a compliment right there I appreciate that um you know what I tell you what you know when you ask me these questions about what you know I've see on the field and everything like this I mean certainly part of it is my my judgment I mean absolutely it's things that I see but I I'm with you Nick I can't see all 91 players so I'm going to have to take in other things other pieces of information that I get so my eyes are one I mean and my and that's like like I said earlier I mean U the Chiefs have 30 guys on the coaching staff who have better judgments than I do because they're more experienced of this they're professionals I'm G to I will favor their judgment over mine any day of the week because they see more of this than I do they see these players more than I get to because we see them you know two and a half hours they're at work 11 hours a day right now so excuse me I think they're work 13 hours a day they get 11 hours off a day so we see them a fraction of their days at work so they get to see a lot of more information so you know yes I I I count on what I I see but I also try to share with you what and everything that my information is also the other pieces of information snaps and reps are a piece of information how these coaches view them because the Reps that players get it practice as Jeff Schwarz said today tell the story you know so hey if I'm going to tell you a player's not standing out because they're playing on the threes well that's that's because the coaches are had them on the threes I didn't put them on the threes coaches have them on the threes coaches have them on the threes because of what's Happening 13 hours a day at work um sometimes coaches will say hey player X is you know hey maybe swiming a little bit but they're getting better I mean it you know you count on what your sources tell you as a reporter and everything so you know that to me I mean when I'm trying to answer questions and everything about like what you what I see what you wanted to hear about specific players and everything I'm trying to condense and take in everything so it's not just my opinion but what I'm told by people whether it's you know my sources with the team or other people that I trust you know people who I think chose judgment I trust that are watching practice I mean I try to bring it all you know and condense it so and I think we're all that way so that's why you may get a different Viewpoint because what another reporter might see and the people that they talk to might have a different take on things so doesn't mean it's wrong it just means we've got different information we saw different things so I appreciate you Nick for encouraging my not nearly as good as rant as what you just had so hey dude I get angry sometimes that happen people try to treat us like we're like we're Gladiators stop it having a flashback to who was that was that it was Winston can't remember his first name the Winston who got mad in the Hall of Fame game it was somewhat underwhelming expectations to the high this will be or do we need a larger sample size a larger sample size because I I'll I'll be interested to see what happens this weekend Casey Herold but um my impression and feeling is that everybody in the league is going vanilla on the kickoff rule during the preseason because they don't want to give anything away about what their secrets are the Chiefs are even going vanilla at training camp because what they're doing at Camp is sandbagging it's not what they're doing like I said we're seeing two two and a half hours a day they're at work 13 hours a day the kickoff work that they're doing when we're not there it's different than what we're seeing in practice they it's useful work I mean they're working on you know obviously identifying what hey what some teams might do I mean and you know what Harold this might be underwhelming because teams might decide that at the end of the day the best for them to do is kick the ball out of the end zone and just put the ball at to 30 I mean there might be some teams that do that teams might do that when they have a lead I mean maybe this rule won't work that the way that they think but when teams execute it I think that the way that their game plan and certainly with like the way that Dave Tob is thinking about trying to do some things I think it's going to be really exciting so we'll see but um that's the other thing is that you know in training camp you can't you can't practice special teams because special teams is contact special teams is full speed you can't practice special teams you can simulate it you can rehearse it but you don't know how it's going to work until you get into into a game situation so yeah only thing I'll say so we because we got a lot of questions still left probably um we're up to 725 now oh boy um yeah was doing really I thought it was doing really well Nick I thought it was moving quickly because we got telling you right now like I'm not reading anything into the kickoffs if if anybody does get a kick return that's going to be really impressive and I'm going to be like that's probably a good special teams coach even without all the razzled Dazzle yet so I don't think you're truly going to see what kickoff returns will potentially be until week one Chiefs Ravens and then it's going to go crazy from there and if Dave to does something cool and creative in that game guess what it'll be within it'll be on every single special teams within within three weeks just like Andy Reids touchdown pass from Alex Smith to Kareem hunt literally was in the NF was in every almost every single NFL offense by like week eight or nine all from that opening game that's all I'm saying very very true uh gabo love that too so impressions of Jaylen Watson since he returned I tell you what Nick I mean um Jaylen Watson's had a couple of really good days yesterday they did put him back in the the uh the the non-c cont yellow Jersey it's been kind of going back and forth between that for a couple of days now so they had him back in that yesterday um but he had and he had but he had a nice interception and seven on seven today I know he had another interception today and that's why I was looking through my notes real quickly to see I think it was during a team period um when was that usually I have interceptions in big letters that say in int uh um so I don't want to have you all have to sit here and wait as I go through looking for where that was but um no I mean Jaylen Jaylen Watson had a couple of really good days really impressive um that's that's encouraging to me because you know I mean this is his really first action back you know with the shoulder injury so fact that he's looking that sharp he's playing with a lot of energy he was really excited when he got that interception interception in seven on seven um thr off good arm too Nick because he like launched the ball in the air um and it it it looked a little bit like a mat Risa punt it was that High I mean he had some hang time on that thing I don't believe nothing nothing yeah I mean I I haven't seen him this week as I wasn't up there Monday Tuesday those are my off days those are those are my me time before uh before I'm up at practice tomorrow and then I start working on the pregame show Thursday Friday so don't batteries in his alternator so we did that we did that yesterday he replaced his own alternator on his truck the alternator had been working for 22 years so he went over to O'Reilly's took the batteries got him tested after he got them all out um I drove him over there because my truck you know still operational um then like my dad replaced the alternator in his own in his own truck man I'm just gonna I'm just going to throw this out there because I I do want to thr you know people to know that I do have some manly skills um after training camp practice on Sunday it was hot Sunday I mean back me up here it was hot yeah I changed my brother-in-law's tie flat tire on his car in under 20 minutes outstanding sir I was very proud of that so and for people that Wonder like your brother-in-law also had the hip rep hip replacement surgery yes so that's yeah so that's why I'm yeah causes problems just let me know that that can cause problems for people that have had hips done before there's certain angles you're not supposed to take anymore after a hip surgery and yeah and and I'm sure you know hey putting the the pressure that you have to put to get some lug nuts off probably not something you should be doing with the hip surgery so I'm glad to help out Brian uh with a you know the in case you need the antenna for catching the game on 38th spot on Saturday apparently Dollar General TV antenna 10 bucks there you go there you go and and it'll work the same so if you see something that says HD Crystal Clear antenna it does not matter if you have a TV that's got literally any TV now that you that you have that was made after I want to say 2010 or 2012 Range like you're good you're good it's going to pick it up you and if it doesn't pick it up then that means you need to do a digital scan again through the menu process and it should pick it up if you're within range of where we are and like I know Springfields get a different affiliate it's on it's necessarily a large number far as different safeties but the Chiefs love their safeties I mean they're going to have three or four safeties on the field a lot Nick and this is even before you get Justin Reed back I mean Justin Reed's just going to lengthen that group even further but fact that you know I mean I mean when the Chiefs are in you know a lot of their sub packages it's going to be three safeties on the field that's a little bit different look for them yeah that's all I got speed through now lightning round I know I am sking over a couple of questions uh because we did kind of answer a little bit of some of them earlier yeah feel like 738 is the next spot that's exactly where I was looking but so your your guys's mission is to be as objective as possible going to ask you to be subjective three years from now do we say this is the best V draft class so far oo okay Nick so I think are we talking 2022 versus 2024 here I mean would that be the previous best best BR Beach draft class for you 2020 2022 is one of their best draft classes they've had since probably 1996 when Marty had that draft class that had like Reggie Tong Jerome Jerome Woods John brownie Donnie Edwards and Joe horn may have been that one not 100% sure I'll still look up 95 but um I mean I don't know we'll see I I have that's kind of one of those things you kind of know after a couple years you don't know you're not going to know the year of and I don't have a DeLorean too in time because guess what if I could predict that right now I would have already got the winning lottery numbers and I may not be on this Q&A right now so I just I've gotta be I'm gonna be honest about that I'm kidding I would do it for Matt I would be on the Q&A I know you you absolutely would if you I mean horn that that's one of the best Chief draft classes in general and then I would say that 20 2022 is probably one of the second best overall I mean obviously if you're looking for best draft pick it's Patrick Mahomes obviously um but yeah know 2022 was a really well-rounded class and 2021 was a pretty well-rounded class when you look at Nick Bolton Creed Humphrey Noah gray Cornell Powell and Trey Smith all still on the roster like that's that's still pretty good class I know the rookie contracts are getting ready to end here but still that's pretty pretty legit but I don't know we're still going to have to wait and see because kingsley's going to have to do you know Worthy's going have to do well kingsley's going have to do well I think Wy and Hicks will both be really good Hunter orad will be good at some point we'll see what Kamal turns into we'll see if CJ Hansen after a couple years of strength training what he turns into so it's possible but I have absolutely no idea Jimmy Z's yeah I mean just just looking into the crystal ball here I will say that I feel really good about I want to say five the top five picks I mean you know you get like lat rounds and you take you take flyers I mean we will see about uh Haden and Hansen I I do like Hansen I think he's a you know a little bit more of a development project um maybe a year or two he's going to be ready um Haden has been swimming a little bit so you know let's see but I tell you what I like I think I think norad's a potential starter in this league hick Hicks is Wy is I think Su Maria will be I think worthy will be but it says I don't know it says something that I mean at this point I'm actually more excited about you know the the fourth and the fifth round picks than I even though I mean and don't get me wrong I mean Kingsley and and worthy have absolutely un ridiculously high ceilings but you just never know what's gonna happen I mean you just never do so lightning [Music] ra [Music] see everybody a guy 205 to 35 million a year to have him be their wide receiver which we'll see what his number is but it's obviously more than what some of the wide receivers are resigning for right now and that's some of the Niners don't want to pay it and you know if you believe prettyy Ricky which I mean prettyy Rick's got a got a significant track record almost like he might be an agent in the league or connected to an agency under a Alias name um he's he's got he's got his money on the Steelers so I don't know what we're talking about the Chiefs he's Pretty Ricky the rck associated Chiefs pretty Ricky's got a lot staked on the uh going to going to the Steelers so but but you got to it's been fascinating watching that evolve to where he's stood strong the entire time and then like all the national insiders have been backpedaling to getting to the point where he was already at two or three days ago yeah I mean I'm not yeah I'm not gonna say what I was thinking about saying so we'll just move TR for the best Matt proud of you uh Brian Cook can't cover nobody out there is he's still hurting some um I I mean would not I'm not not sure I can can completely agree with the first statement am I seeing some speed issues with Brian Cook uh yes but I'm also just wondering if that's if I'm seeing that because he is chasing Xavier worthy and Hollywood Brown and Rashi rice um because usually if Brian Cook is getting involved in coverage I mean there's obviously exceptions there's times when he picks up and there in the zone that he's going to be picking up for somebody else hand there somebody's handing off coverage to him but sometimes Brian Cook is is is probably looks like he is out of he's not he's not keeping up because he's trying to catch up for somebody else's mistake and but I do I mean I think he's there is probably a little bit I mean I've seen some of his physicality I mean he's made some elevation plays that tell me I think that the fact that the ankle is fine but if you if he told me that hey he's still fighting through some scar tissue or something or just the mental aspect I'd buy it but I don't have a huge amount of concerns remember Brian Cook is never about speed Brian Cook's is game is about recognition it's about just anticipation so that's why I'm I'm not not too worried um Stephen do you think if Echo boo plays good in the preseason he can make a run at the number two cornerback spot that seems like a long a pretty pretty tough fight up the up the depth chart for me Nick what about what do you think if they were going to test him out at number two they would have put him in that Mero round rotation this p week I mean hey I'm how I feel I mean we'll see what happens next week if he's just makes a guest star appearance at the number two spot you know after the preseason I'm not going to discount it but based on current information if they really wanted to push him at the number two spot they would have done it there youe during multiple injuries Pano has has a question that a lot of people have asked about we've we've talked about but I did want to talk touch on it a little bit again why is Cornell Powell out there getting reps he should have gone out the door with Kane um I mean Cornell Powell has been around and I and I legitimately think that Cornell Powell's around for a couple different reasons like one because the Chiefs do feel like that he's a decent player that there's been potential there they've always felt like that and you know what he gives them a reason every single offseason to believe that there's potential there because he plays plays well um has he ever been good enough to be one of their top six or seven receivers not at this point but he's given them a reason to think that there's something more there and it has cost them nothing from an investment standpoint other than time um the other thing too is that I think that one he is really well-liked in that locker room he's well-liked with that receiver group he has been close and tight with everybody from a chemistry standpoint he fits in great and three I don't know if there is a if I've heard of a better or harder working scout team receiver than Cornell pal and I'm not saying that's a reason why you keep somebody around because they're A good scout team player but I'm also not saying that it ain't a reason that you keep somebody around um you know he got a lot of props from people last year for his scout team work going into the Super Bowl uh it's happened out a couple of years I mean he's he's I mean if he's a in baseball terms Nick maybe he's a 4A player maybe he's just on the cusp of being just that close and you might find out that hey if if Cornell Powell had been on another team maybe he isn't a a regular NFL receiver maybe he's playing you know 17 games a year and he's putting up some decent numbers I don't know maybe he's in the wrong place at the wrong time but I mean I know there are things that that that this team likes about Cornell pal that's why he's around yeah all I'm gonna say is hey let him enjoy the time on the practice squad it's not hurting you not hurting me like Matt said he's a good scout team player let him let him do his role there you go Samy hey guys notice Christian Roland Wallace getting more looks Baylor cup keeps standing out as well wondering your thoughts on them or other under dogs that have stood out uh you you know you you and I Nick have talking about Baylor cup back to rookie mini camp as being being a guy who's flashed so um I agree I mean he is he's a project there's no doubt about that and there are other players in front of him uh Christian Roland Wallace I I do want to note because he and DJ Miller are both you know um playing safety they're both Corners in college and they the Chiefs actually has them both playing safety so they're kind of undergoing a position move uh we'll see I mean I think that you the Chiefs did that for a reason I mean I think it was you know obviously to you know give him a chance to play safety maybe be as practice squad players we'll see but um yeah I mean both those guys have thought have I mean they're they're clearly the Chiefs are interested because they have been getting more reps um not sure that I can I really say that I can track how many they've had with second team if any but um they're getting out there and I I know that some of the other players have commented on them too so we'll see what happens but we get to see him a lot you're going see him a lot on Saturday Nick um let's be BL about it they're probably looking at practice squad yes no not for 53s but fighting for practice squad spots KY ch2 can worthy match Rice's stats from last season Nick I have no idea like I have no idea I don't know I don't even remember what rice of stats are I have no idea like when people number Stuff the only numbers I want to know the answer to Is the winning lottery numbers those are the numbers I want to know the answer to that's what I want to know like if you guys if you guys have those please give them to me well I'm just gonna be pragmatic here and say that um that was Rashid rice had one of the best seasons for a rookie receiver under Andy Reid in his career I mean was it's him and and Deshawn Jackson so worthy mention that it's going to be really really hard especially since I think you think that that Hollywood Brown's going to have a good year that you think rash's going to have another good year it's going to be less opportunities for worthy than there were for rice last year so I will bet the under on that but you never know what's going to happen Casey Chiefs 12 has Jared Wy shown enough to give Travis a break during games this season he's probably get some snaps and opportunities to do so that's pretty much the whole reason they drafted him I mean I definitely like his chances uh I mean Chiefs need to give more time off to Travis Kelce there's just no doubt about it I mean I think he's going to be better if he plays a little bit less I Know Travis wants to play all the time but they need to spell him this is the first guy they've had in a while that I think could spell him if for no other reason than he's at least got Travis's size down I mean it's not like you're trying to take a six2 63 tight end and make him play like Travis Kelce that's that's always been I think the chief's challenge is that you know if if you're going to back up Travis Kelce you're either too short or you're just a former basketball player that you're converting to tight end but are the Chiefs gonna have problems running on Third and short again this year Nick if they're not going against Mike panel and Chris Jones every play they got a better shot they doing training camp right now look I mean Trace miss a power Run game a guard Creed can do good Combos and Joe tuny when he's healthy can combo pretty well so I don't know I mean we'll see I mean they're they've never really been a true mul power game and run which is what third and short is and short situations are and what goal line situations are it's you against one guy and who can get the lower pad level and who can drive somebody off the ball so if you have a power Run game then you know short yardage normally goes pretty well for you uh a lot of questions about Carson steel everybody's a fan of him but uh casy Chiefs 12 I'm going to combine two of your questions here CU he's just asking about the numbers Nick if you wanted to keep steel four running backs four tight ends six wide receivers nine or 10 offensive linemen I'm doing the math here 9 15 19 23 two quarterbacks 25 I mean you would have to be nine offensive linemen and then you might be one over but you're GNA keep 24 25 offensive players there so if you did that you might need to cut one more player and that's with nine nine offens lineman my next roster prediction comes out Thursday morning so until then I do not know I'm kidding I didn't know but you can't see now you know what to look for on Thursday morning y uh go for Casey forever if LRG doesn't make the roster and goes to the practice squad soon can be picked up even though he is under contract uh conceivably yes because at this point right now the uh the international roster exemption is on Chu godri and that's the only thing that prevents a practice squad player from being signed for another contract is the is the international exemption so unless there is some roster shenanigans that and I'm not even certain I mean I've so everybody's so un I want to say uneducated but um nobody seems to pay a whole lot of attention to the international pathway player rules about whether you can move the the roster exemption to another player uh especially if you lose that player like off of waivers I'm not certain that you can ever apply this season the the exemption to lrz if you could you could certainly protect him but right now it's on Special Teams I always watch the Special Teams and pay attention to them because especially in the first half of the game you watch Special Teams you will find out who's on the 53 because guys who are playing on special teams in the first half preseason games are going to be making the roster guys in the second half are fighting for jobs but uh special teams going to be especially fun to watch because of just this year and the new rules and the craziness and everything so um that's my recommendation as far as who has the most on the line I mean it goes across the board I don't think there's anybody that that I mean anybody could win and lose a job I mean that's just the reality of it I mean I don't think there's anybody that to me that has the particular most on the line um you know anybody that's performing well needs to perform well here because we've seen it too often Nick you know you see a guy who has a great training camp goes in first preseason game doesn't perform well and you never hear from them again you if you're performing well in Camp right now you you don't like they're in the witness protection program well I mean I don't I don't like throwing players into the bus but I have a player in mind right now that I'm thinking of okay who had a great training camp was on a Podium was seemed like was the darling of the world and pretty sure didn't I know he did not make the 53 man roster and I think was only like a proess swad elevation for a couple of games but so depth chart which you may or may not be able to see I can't see it real well on my screen Matt straws on top and and everything yes they put sweet potato straws on top of it for the crunchy part then they had pickles if I remember correctly they had some onions they had garlic aoli they had the honey barbecue sauce with and then they had the ribs without the bones to them I just want to let you know I had what I learned from the process if you get to come into town and have it during this month while hwood Brown sandwich is available they should honestly put on the menu permanently and um if Phil Thompson is watching or if not I will send this clip to him put it on the minu fulltime
