Miami Hurricanes Best Position Groups | Miami Hurricanes Football 2024

Intro welcome back to another episode of rock boys football ranking the position groups for this Miami Hurricanes program heading into 2024 and every time I do one of these practices for whatever program you're doing you kind of Come Away with certain takeaways I look at my two takeaways for this Miami Hurricanes roster and say one there are not a lot of holes on this depth chart heading into 2024 when you start stacking these position groups and say he we feel good about a lot these different position groups heading into the 2024 year but I think what's even more fascinating about this roster is you have some legit Elite position groups heading into the 2024 year and kind of a a small spoiler alert I have the linebacker room five out of seven in terms of position groups I look at the linebacker room and say Francisco Maui NOA not only one of the best linebackers in the ACC one of the best linebackers in the country coming in fifth out of seven position groups and what does that tell me it tells me that some of the position groups that are above this linebacker room are truly some of the better position groups that you'll see across the country fired up Shout Out to get rocking with the fellas the last couple of weeks and months you guys kind of know what my number one position group is going to be and really one of the major reasons I'm a Believer in this hurricanes program heading into 2024 yes we are a Believer because cam Ward comes to Miami in the transfer portal one of the best quarterbacks in the country this defensive line particularly Defensive Line in the pass rush is going to be one of the best units in the country you start kind of going down the list Ruben Bane was one of the best pure pass rushers that we saw in the country as a true freshman the numbers back it up in 26 quarterback Curry is a 17 % pass rush win rate what excites the Miami Hurricane fans the most is this kid's only going to get better going into year two of his college football career you were looking at one of the best defensive linemen that we see across the country heading into 2024 then you start diving through the list Simeon Barrow Jr coming in through the transfer portal 14 or 17 quarterback curries a 14% pass rush win right you look at Tyler Baron coming over from Tennessee 31 quarterback curries a 16% pass pass rush win rate has been one of the best pure pass rushers in the SEC the last two years you look at Elijah Austin a 20% pass rush win rate 22 quarterback Curries at Marshall last year I would even start sprinkling in guys like AEM mesidor who was really good for Miami in 2022 and obviously got banged up in 2023 this Miami Hurricane's defensive line at least in my eyes multiple guys that will be playing on Sundays over the next couple of months right Tyler Baron Elijah Austin Simeon barer Jr Ruben ban obviously got to wait a couple more years till he can go to the NFL so you have that topend NFL talent but you're also extremely deep we talked about what six seven8 defensive lineman that we have a lot of confidence in heading into 2024 something that just doesn't get talked enough about is how important it is to be deep on the defensive line you want to rotate those bodies throughout four quarters keep them fresh but I think more importantly for Miami you talk about winning games late in the season making a college football playoff run you have to be deep along the lines of scrimmage you look at Georgia the last couple years you look at Michigan in 2023 one of the things that nobody talks about but it certainly was true for both of those defensive lines they were extremely deep yes they had the NFL talent that kind of headlined the conversation when you started talking about rotating guys they had so many good football players on that defensive line I look at Miami and say yes you have the NFL talent but you're also extremely deep on the defensive line that's what sets it apart that's what makes me think this is one of the best units that we see in the country going to number two it's the quarterback room and again you talk about the two main reasons we're believing in this Miami Hurricanes team one an Elite pass rush number two Elite quarterback play you look at what has hamstrung Miami over the last seemingly decade is having just inconsistency at the quarterback play you look at these quarterbacks and it often seemed like Miami was winning games in spite of the quarterback not because of the quarterback I think heading into 2024 this is not only the best roster around the quarterback Miami has had they have a quarterback that they can win because of in cam Ward this is a guy that could have gone to the NFL and I think what's exciting about cam Ward is two things one there's still some meat left on the boat I think there's a reason he decided to come back to college for one more year he knows there's a little bit more development that can take place he's got all the talent in the world in that arm I think secondly really good fit in terms of how Shannon Dawson wants this offense to look the ball coming out quick on time accurately that's what cam Ward does at his best and I think the playmaking ability that you just didn't have with Tyler van djk is another added bonus the quarterback play for Miami is going to be significantly better than what we saw the last couple years that's another reason we're believing in this Miami Hurricanes team going to number three in kind of a similar conversation this running back room you look at Daman Martine is coming in through the transfer portal he's not included on this dep chart I don't know why then you look at Mark Fletcher I mean two guys that go over 225 pounds you look at how Mario Chris Ball has built this program during the last couple of off Seasons it's been building to dominate teams along the line of scrimmage and be one of the most physically imposing programs in the ACC specifically on the offensive line now you couple that offensive line with two running backs that are about as imposing as it gets and you sprinkle in a true freshman Jordan Lyall you sprinkle in a guy like Chris Johnson who has the speed of just about anybody in the country there are just so many ways that Miami is going to be able to get this running game going and on top of that you look at cam Ward his numbers were a lead and play action last year now the state didn't go to play action very much because they couldn't run the football was one of the worst rushing offenses that we saw in the country if you can have an elite ground game which we fully expect Miami to have and then you let cam W operate off of play action that's the recipe for this Miami Hurricanes offense fire me up for kind of that that duo between cam Ward and Elite rushing attack and we talk about the rushing attack it does start with the offensive line and I want to start with guys that it just don't feel like get talked enough about Jaylen rivers and S Cooper I mean two guys that are all ACC caliber offensive lineman in a lot of the conversations go to guys like Francis Maui NOA which the Miami Hurricane fans know he is going to be a stud for Miami over the next couple of years Jaylen rivers and Ness Cooper have been absolutely dominant for Miami the last couple of years you're bringing Zack Carpenter one of the more experienced centers kind of just a plug-and-play guy that you feel really confident is just going to take over for Matt Lee and you're not really going to miss a beat and then you have Francis maoa who uh had some Growing Pains early in the 2023 year which is to be expected for a true freshman starting at the offensive tackle spot you take a look at the last seven games he only gave up five quarterback curries he was playing his best football at the end of 2023 if he continues to take those steps which we all are very confident that he does you're looking at another allconference tackle and you look at the landscape of college football so many programs have question marks about the offensive tackle spot Miami's going into 2024 say Jaylen Rivers Francis Mau NOA a lot of experience on the inside we we feel really good about what this offensive line can be that's not to mention I mean Matthew McCoy Tommy Kinsler potentially Mar c bellaz guys who are 6 seven8 on the offensive line but would start on a lot of other programs across the country this might IAM hurricanes team has a really solid starting five but some nice depth behind that if you have to rotate some guys and kind of continue to put your best five out that's kind of what separates this offensive line for me again one of if not the best offensive line in the ACC it's coming in at number four again that just highlights how Elite this team is with some top end position groups coming in at number four linebackers another guy that is just criminally disrespected we kind of talked about it earlier to start Francisco Maui NOA was an absolute Savage for Miami in 2023 you take a look at some of the numbers 34 run stops with an average depth of tackle of 2.3 yards down the field what does that tell you about Francisco maoa one he knows how to find the football number two he's playing downhill he's not one of those linebackers that's collecting all of his tackles five to seven yards down the field this is a heavy linebacker that wants to work downhill be a force in the Run game game and then on top of that doesn't miss any tackles 11% missed tackle rate 15 quarterback Curry is one of the best pass rushing linebackers that you see in the country I look at Francisco mauo and say how many linebackers are we taking over Francisco not only in the ACC but in the country and then you start sprinkling in Wesley Bain who I thought played some really good football year two of his college football career in 2023 probably takes a step going into year three you look at a true freshman like Bobby Pro it we all saw the spring game we have confidence that he can play a highle linebacker as a true freshman you're bring in a veteran and Jaden Alderman it's a deep linebacker room headlined by one of the best linebackers in the country again coming in at number five it's kind of wild that that's how we're talking about this Lineback room but again I think it highlights how good this unit is across a lot of different position groups going into number six wide receivers let's talk about the wide receiver room and I think again what what I love about the pass catcher room for Miami is it just a lot of different kind of guys that can Excel doing a lot of different things right Xavier Restrepo and cam Ward I've been very vocal is going to be probably one of the best wide receiver quarterback batteries that we see in the country you look at cam Ward where did he Excel getting the football to at Washington State it was those slot wide receivers I look at Xavier shpo and say I feel pretty confident that he's going to go for 1,00 plus yards in the 2020 four year then you have a guy in Jobe George Who at times isn't as consistent as you would like but from a potential standpoint has all the juice in the world you're bringing Sam Brown from Houston who's a guy that can stretch the field vertically him and Isaiah Horton are gonna be really important wide receivers for this Hurricane's offense where you want to have that presence working vertically down the field to open up some opportunities not only for the Run game but guys like Xavier Restrepo to work in those short intermediate route Concepts I look at this wide receiver room and say it's really really balanced and then you mention guys like Ray Ray Joseph or true freshman JoJo Trader and Nik car it's deep it has a lot of pass catchers that can do a lot of different things the one thing that kind of held this position group back for me is the tight end play which we've said a lot can be a very good unit for Miami there is talent in this unit right Riley Williams going into the year to Elijah Royal if he can kind of stay healthy true freshman Elijah l often the talent is there in that tight end room you just got to see it manufacture on the football field in 2024 last position group and I think a lot of Miami Hurricane fans would probably agree with this as the secondary and again I think what entices me about the secondary is you have some guys that have some talent and a lot of potential right deari Brown Jas Richard a guy coming over from Vanderbilt last year again long fluid quarterback that just needs to put it together I would throw Robert Stafford into that mix it's really the only position group that there are kind of some unknowns because the other position groups that we just talked about like there are known quantities in those position groups that we feel really confident about you look at the secondary and say it's relatively inexperienced you're gonna have some young cats playing a lot of football guys like deari brown zaquan Patterson potentially but you did bring some guys in that make you feel a little bit better right darl Porter Jr Michel po coming to play that Nick Ro guys that have played a lot of football so there is some experience but it's really the only position group that there are some question marks about what this unit is going to look like so we have them at number seven but a position group that it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we get into the middle of October and we say hey this is a pretty damn good group for
