good morning Welcome to our 8 A.M service we are grateful this morning I will be reading Psalms 105. oh give thanks to the Lord call upon his name make known his deeds among the people sing to him sing praises to Him tell of all his wondrous wondrous works glory in His holy name let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice praise God from whom all blessings flow praise God from home oh blessings praise him all creatures [Music] Hallelujah father we thank you for another opportunity God together in your Sanctuary yoga together with your people oh God so hear a word from the Lord on this morning oh God that will keep us productive in this Christian walk that you've called us to oh God we thank you Lord God that our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life on this morning oh God we're grateful on this morning God and we pray that your presence with Hoover in this place oh God In The Name of Jesus we pray amen [Music] amen [Music] good morning good morning saints of God hallelujah amen I will be reading in your hearing the scripture will that will also serve as the simonic text this morning I will be reading from the book of Philippians chapter 4. verses 6 through 7 and this is the new revised Standard Version amen and it reads do not worry about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts in your minds in Christ Jesus this is the word of God to the people of God praise be to God for him for this morning will be on page 420 lift him up [Music] how to reach the masses men of every birth for an answer Jesus gave a key and I if I be lifted up from the earth I'll draw a man unto me lift him up lift him up still he speaks from eternity and life if I be lifted up from the earth I'll draw him in unto me all the world is hungry for the living bread live the Savior approach them to see trust him and do not doubt the for this week the People's Baptist Church will be partnering with the amachi mentoring program in the fall and mentors are needed as Pastor mentioned last week the time commitment is about four hours per month and includes training as well as background checks if you are interested you should see Reverend Dr Chris Jimenez also just put on your calendars those Ministries that are recessing for the summer we know that Noonday Bible study and the marriage many Ministry but also the dance Ministries as well as the mass choir next Sunday um sorry it's not next Sunday the just a reminder that the continental breakfast is served each second and fourth Sunday and then sponsored by the youth ministry and it's served immediately after the 8 A.M service in the fellowship hall we want you to be aware of the most recent upcoming events that the pastor's aide will be sponsoring a dinner sale on Friday August 4th through Sunday August 6th and more information will be forthcoming next week also the unsung heroes luncheon tickets are now on sale and that will be taking place on Saturday September the 16th and the pastor's anniversary I would like you to continue to save the date for The Price is Right of it which will be taking place on Sunday October the 1st at 2 p.m tickets are 35 and please note that no tickets will be sold on the day of the event uh in this week the rose of Sharon missionary ministry will be meeting this coming Tuesday at 10 A.M via the conference line so they're asking all missionaries to join if join in if they are able to additionally on Saturday uh the ushers will be meeting at 10 the nurses will be meeting at 11 30 and the pastors a will be meeting at 1 pm via the conference line next Sunday the church anniversary committee is sponsoring the sweet Sunday sale and they will be selling lots of cookies apparently the sale will take place in the lower lobby after 10 30 service also next Sunday the deacons ministry will be celebrating their annual day praise God and so we look forward to celebrating with them and the hospitality ministry will be celebrating on Sunday July the 23rd and also on your calendars just wants you to be noting that the Men's Ministry is sponsoring a bowling party on Sunday July 30th taking place from 2 30 to 4 30 p.m the cost is 20 per person and the party will take place at Sproul Lanes if you're interested in participating during this service you can see Reverend Robert White you can also see trustee David Swenson excuse me during 10 30 as well please note that you have to sign up if your name is not on the list you will not be able to bowl so if you want to bowl put your name on the list uh lastly on pastor's itinerary he will be preaching at the Cathedral of Holiness Missionary Baptist Church on Friday July 28th and that church is located in Pennsville New Jersey that's a bit of a drive so a bus has been procured for those individuals who would like to participate um a sign up sheet is available downstairs and we will leave the church on that Friday at 5 PM the calls for the bus is five excuse me is ten dollars and those payments are only accepted in cash and those payments can be given to trustee Barbara Cooper and you want to make sure that you get your name on the list as soon as possible because if we don't have enough people we won't be able to have the bus and lastly in membership news we ask that you would please keep the Brown family in prayer as one of the victims of the mass shooting in Kingsessing was a family member brother DeJuan Brown and we on a personal note one of my former students was also one of the victims Joseph wama so we just want to keep all those individuals who were impacted and our entire community in prayer as we are a part of that Community we also want to lift up brother Lamar and Barbara Kenney in prayer as well as their father is currently in the hospital that concludes this week's announcements and we pray that you will continue to stay blessed throughout the week it is of the Lord's Mercy that we are not consumed because his compassions they fail not they are new every morning so great is thy faithfulness Lord unto me let the people of God say Amen come on and clap your hands and give God give God glory we certainly bless the name of the Lord and we give unto God glory honor and praise let me Begin by thanking each of you for your uh a flexibility today um we normally have communion on this day but I have to step out today and to uh certainly Minister uh at the house of Faith or a friend of mine and of course while I have capable Associates who could lead the communion celebration and I did not serve it last month at 10 30 and did not think it would be right not to serve it again at 10 30 and so I just pushed it back so that I could be here to celebrate with everybody on so thank you all and not so quite naturally that led eight o'clock also I'm being moved to next weekend so we're looking forward to celebrating on next week and I ask on a personal note note that you would keep the Reverend William James Scott third in your prayers I said this yesterday in our deacons meeting and I'll say it again that you never know the stress and the strain that comes with the pastorate and so because of such um you know pray for pastors uh pray for leaders amen amen and so certainly do that for me and that'll be greatly appreciative I want to just make emphasis on that bowling party uh that uh Reverend Robert has coming up uh I'm going to pay my twenty dollars uh because I want a bowl I want a bowl I absolutely want a bowl now whether I'll be good at bowling that's another question but at least I can say I try church say amen and so I'm encouraging all of you uh to be a part of that particular occasion um I think it'll be a wonderful thing for us to get together uh what a wonderful way to encourage Fellowship in the life of the People's Baptist church amen um I'm also asking uh for those who can on the 28th are those who can if you would sign up for the bus let's go to New Jersey um I uh been uh Bishop Don Brown I went to her last year for her 39th year and she's asked for me to come back in her 40th year and I want to go back in good numbers and to be a blessing uh to her I think that is really all that's on the agenda I'll I'll let you know but I think that's all last thing as we prepare to take up our offering today um I know many of you are preparing to go on vacation many of you may be uh heading out on vacation this week uh there's just one particular request I have of you that as you are in your preparing to leave phase if you would be so kind as to leave a donation a nor and or contribution uh so that the lights can stay on and the air again Let it Lord I needed to do it Lord depression away so heavy Army Lord I need to do it I need you to do it oh Lord please hear my prayer Lord Hear My Cry uh [Music] to do and do it for me right now [Applause] father we confess that we need you now an insult doing [Music] we know that you can show up in due course so we give thanks to you for that for that truth not bless your word today you've already blessed it I'll just give her strength to Proclaim it and we'll give you thanks in Jesus name amen God be praised thank you Reverend Bland for such a moving selection once again allowing the Lord to use you I must confess uh brothers and sisters I was uh up at least until last night trying to determine what would be the message for uh this morning and one of the things I had I've learned we oftentimes look for new truth or new revelation uh but I think that sometimes that there is some fresh water that can come from old Wells and so today I just want to lift up in this moment Philippians chapter 4. um Philippians chapter 4. the Lord showed something to me last night and I want to just kind of lift it up today thank God you have it say Amen do not be anxious about anything but in every situation by prayer and petition with Thanksgiving present your request to God and the peace of God which transcend all knowledge or understanding will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus the word of God for the people of God thinks be to God you may be seated this morning I want to lift up for our time of preaching today an antidote for anxiety an antidote for an anxiety and antidote for anxiety Paul is composing this letter from prison because of his witness for the gospel preaching the word and in his preaching his preaching got in trouble got him in trouble sometimes doing good will get you in trouble can I get a witness sometimes doing good will just get you in trouble I don't care how uh you know everybody will not be receptive to what you're doing and so when you are working for God I would be surprised if you don't get in trouble I would be startled and honestly I would be shocked and or surprise if doing good does not get you in trouble so he's Paul is put in prison we are kind of unable to ascertain uh what location there's been some who said he's in the Ephesian in ephes imprisoned in Ephesus which would make his letter at the beginning of his ministry some say it's in Rome which would make it the end of his ministry honestly we really don't know and that's not really important what's really important is the message and the aim of this composition Paul writes this letter for a variety of reasons the first reason that he writes this is he wants to explain the illness of aphroditus aphroditus who was a minister of that church was sent on a mission but while on that mission he became sick and Paul says I want you to realize he got sick out of concern for you the next reason that he writes this letter is to thank them for their love gift this church has been supportive of their Pastor financially they have supported him in the ministry even to the point of imprisonment they have sent Financial contributions but another thing this Paul this if you read this letter it is a letter of Joy it is a letter of Joy Paul finds time to celebrate even while in confinement Paul does not consider he says that no matter what's going on I'm I'm going to celebrate the goodness and the faithfulness of God and maybe that ought to be our posture maybe that ought to be a lesson for all of us that no matter where you find yourself in where you find yourself in should never cause your praise to be detained can I get a witness in here you ought to be able to declare like the psalmist I will bless the Lord Lord come on somebody at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth my soul shall make her boast in the Lord The Humble shall hear thereof and be glad oh magnify Come on talk back to me and hear the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together you ought to be like the son of Paul when he says in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus all I'm trying to tell you is that in every situation you ought to have a posture of praise you ought to have a posture of worship nothing should ever hinder your posture of celebrity is there anybody in here that can testify Hallelujah anyhow or never let your troubles get when you get you down when life troubles come your way hold your head up high and say hallelu Hallelujah anyhow because I'm I'm connected to Jesus Christ I have a reason to celebrate can I get a witness in here I said because I am connected because I'm wrapped up because I'm tied up because I am Tangled Up in Jesus I have a reason to celebrate because even though it's not good the Lord is still good Lord tell me to preach this I said even when it's not good I can still declare God is good one more time for the Holy Ghost we're even when it's not good I can declare that it that the Lord is God um and so we come to chapter four chapter four come to chapter four and chapter four there in verses four five and six there are three exhortations the first exhortation is to Rejoice always and again I say rejoice that's again Paul is writing that and he's giving that wonderful exhortation Rejoice always and again I say rejoice then verse 5 let your gentleness be known to all people for the Lord is at hand he could be talking about the second coming of Jesus but another wonderful principle is simply this the Lord is at hand right now that no matter where you find yourself in the spectrum of Life the Lord is at hand but then you get to this third exhortation the third exhortation is do not worry do not worry that word worry means to uh it means to be burdened it means to have the cares and the concerns it means to carry something you should not be carrying this is the same word that's used in Luke chapter 10 verse 41 when Jesus tells Martha Martha you are worried about so much when you should be concerned about sinning at the feet of Jesus it's also mentioned in sick in Matthew chapter 6 verses 25 to 34 when Jesus tells his disciples that listen that don't worry about anything because if God can take care of the Lilies of the fields and the fowls of the air you are much more valuable than they God will take care of you Hallelujah bless the Lord this text is trying to teach us Reverend Robert that the disciple of Christ can commit their concerns to God through prayer now that was assault that was a that was a basic truth and nobody got happy but let me just say it again that the disciple of Christ can commit all of their concerns to God through prayer Lord help don't don't make me work hard this morning let me say it again the disciple of Christ can commit all of their concerns to Christ to God through prayer this instruction meets us in a very unique time y'all Paul is telling us not to be anxious not to have not to feel burden not to carry undue stress what kind of instruction when all of us are facing something that causes stress we have a community that has been traumatized by mass shooting this week there is much to worry about there's the threat of war that has the tension between Ukraine and Russia continues to mount this there is so much to worry about many are crumbling under the weight of debt with no relief in sight there is something to worry about the church we are facing we are in Uncharted Territory still not knowing what will happen next so there is so much to worry about many of you are in a place of frustration many of you are in a place of disillusionment many of you are in a place of being fatigued you're tired of being sick and tired and you hear me come up this morning with this message don't worry about nothing Reverend uh wow and then don't worry about nothing how do we grapple with the griefs that come with life what do we have to help us grapple with the grief that causes anxiety because if you're gonna tell me not to worry evidently there is an antidote so what is the antidote for my worry preacher I'm so glad you asked I submit there are two things that you and I have at our disposal you want them today good first the believer there is the posture of the believer there is the posture of the believer somebody shot the posture of the believer we must not worry about anything but pray about everything essentially our life should not be consumed with the cares of this life but rather in everything we must maintain an attitude of prayer having the capacity to approach God in all things watch this our ability to give thanks in everything helps us not to worry about anything come on y'all ability to give thanks in everything helps me not to worry about anything I think we need to be reminded of our privilege to pray because many times we forget about this privilege of prayer and that privilege comes because of the death the burial and the resurrection of Jesus Christ we have boldness we have confidence to go into the presence of God to go to the throne of grace and obtain mercy and find Grace to help in the time of need [Applause] oh what peace we often forfeit I know what needless pains we Bear all because we do not what carry everything to what God In Prayer you have a privileged Church prayer is your privilege have mercy dear God I said prayer is your privilege that because you are connected to a holy God through his son Jesus Christ you have the privilege to go into God's Throne without the aid of a preacher or a priest Hallelujah but then we also have we can go into God's presence with the confidence that if our prayer is according to God's will he hears us but he will also answer us y'all don't know when to shout on that that's that's the pr that's the promise of prayer the promise in the posture of prayer is that I got confidence that if I call on the Lord he will answer me can I get a witness in here foreign limping with God Chad Byrd offers this reflection on the timeliness of God will not always God will not do something when you want him to do it he may do it earlier he may do it later but if you ask the Lord to do something at seven o'clock on Wednesday night on March the 14th don't be shocked when he shows up a week before or six months later we we have a God who does not operate on our time clock he he in our time estimation God is late but he may not come when you want him to come but he's what always on time hallelujah how do you know that God comes just in the nick of time just when you are about to lose your mind just when things are that is worse that's when God operates at his past thank you Jesus Christ Hallelujah we can pray about everything we can pray about everything and if we pray about everything we won't be stressed about anything if we pray in good times we won't find ourselves having we won't find ourselves having to worry in those bad times Paul affirms that we can pray about everything the assumption is this that God will answer prayer yet our prayers watch this must be made with Thanksgiving your prayer your petition notice what he says must be brought with Thanksgiving whatever we bring to God must be brought with Thanksgiving am I talking all right this morning whatever we bring to God must be brought with Thanksgiving the Thanksgiving is rooted in our conviction in the faithfulness of God to both hear and answer prayer we need to be worried we need not be worried about the complications that come with life we need not carry burdens too heavy for us but rather we can bring all of our cares and concerns to God Saints your greatest posture your greatest resource is prayer and I've been trying to get that over to you that's why we did that 60 or 90 days of prayer because I wanted to get that over to you that prayer is your power prayer is your power but then not only that we see not only the posture of the believer but we see the protection of the believer on the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and your mind in Christ we have a posture but we have a protection now this protection is a byproduct of our relationship with God you never have to pray for peace because it's already given to you we can never have peace of God until we have peace with God you cannot have be the peace you cannot enjoy the peace of God until you have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ we can have the peace of God this word means Harmony tranquility it has the connotation of being free from worry and this is this is not again something we ask for but rather it flows out of our conversation with god that as you pray to God in exchange God gives you peace the peace of God allows me to accept the will of God no matter what it means in my life the peace of God gives me acceptance of the will of God no matter what happens in my life when Paul says the peace of God it transcends understanding have you ever seen people that can just go through life and they look like they have no care in the world and you're like I know you got to be going through something they don't look like what they're going through can I get a witness in here they don't look like what they are going through Paul says the peace of God which transcends knowledge will watch this guard what a military term guard Paul is being guarded in prison he's being heavily guarded so that nobody can get to him and he can't escape but Paul says I'm not only guarded by prisoners but I'm guarded by peace so that what is going on around me can't get to me that is security that whatever is going on around me cannot get me Hallelujah you know I often hear people say it's erroneous and I'ma just say it someone would say I need to protect my peace I need to protect my peace why you need to protect something that's protecting you you don't need to protect your peace your peace is protecting you from all of the craziness from all the chaos I don't need to protect that God is that God is dispatched his peace to protect my heart and my mind I'm secure I'm guarded can nothing get to me can't touch this can I get a witness in here cat can't touch this can somebody testify about that can't touch this worry Can't Touch This anxiety can't touch this sickness can't touch this when peace like a river attendeth my way when sorrow like see Billows wrong whatever my life thou has taught me to say it Is Well with My Soul yeah I will not worry excessively about stuff that I can't even control can I get a witness I will not worry excessively about things I can't control and that's what the Lord sent me to tell y'all this morning stop worrying excessively about stuff you cannot control listen if it's let's listen here and I'm closing if the world from you will hold all of its silver and it's cold and you have to get along on meager fast just remember in his word how he feels the little bird take your burden to the Lord and watch this and leave it there can the church shout hallelujah I said take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there and is there anybody here that can testify that not only will the Lord not only will you give me a peace but he will give you the ability to declare that whether on the Mountaintop or whether in the valley low I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me I can abound in good I can abound in life Hallelujah because I know that God will he will show up and he will he will show out can the church shout yes can the church shall the answer can anybody testify that if you call on the Lord he will answer you can you call on the Lord do you know that he will make a way out of no way won't he do it won't he do it do it won't he pay the bills won't he do it won't he give you peace won't he do it shall Glory Glory Glory Church that's it you whatever you are worried about stop it whatever keeps you up at night I was trying to tell you he keeps telling you this that I need to slumber nor sleep so if I'm up all night what you doing up put that stuff in my hand put it in my hand and trust me you trying to finagle him put it together trying to work it out but but while you have been or while you are trying to figure it out God has what already worked it out do you hear me stop stop worrying yourself that's why some of you stay sick gonna lose your hair and I'm talking good over here foreign I said a couple of Sundays ago and I must say it again somebody I need to stop worrying and just go somewhere and set out [Music] go somewhere to sit down matter of fact go take a break and go do something because guess what you're worrying about it ain't gonna remove it how many if God can take care of the birds the the birds of the air and the Lilies of the Field don't you know that you are of the of value to God am I right about that you matter to God so again I'm gonna say it again this week put some of that stuff down that family issue give it to God because guess what God has the power to do what you cannot do that that sickness that you're that you have give it to God and whether he heals it or will he has you live through it his grace is sufficient Hallelujah I made a commitment in this year I don't care what goes on in this church that I can't control I ain't taking it home no I'm not gonna take it home because I've spent the better part of nine years worrying about stuff trying to and then sometimes I go try to fix stuff and guess what only make it worse and you and you can justify you do the same thing see what I learned to do Lord this your church I'm just here to Steward it so whatever I can't handle you got it handle my life work Hallelujah something that's when we need to tell Lord handle my light work [Music] watch this I'm done but Jesus says for some of y'all simple word come unto me all ye that are exhausted and cast your burden give me your burden and I'll give you what I got because my yoke is easy and my burden is light so give me the stuff that you give me your heavy stuff and I'll take and give you my light stuff [Music] I'll give you my strength I'll give you my peace I'll give you my joy I'll give you my grace I'll give you my Mercy and if I don't change the situation I'll change you in the situation trying to change you I'm done I don't talk too much but the Lord many times uses troubles to transform you he's trying to draw you closer and you keep fussing [Music] you get mad because I can't handle it I know you can't the Lord didn't tell you to handle it hear what the Lord said [Music] casts all you care throwing on them because if you throw it on him he can catch him [Music] Hallelujah all right if you hear you're not a part of a church another part of this church come on down here and join this church come on down here if you're if you're here or let me do it like this if you're saved and you know it clap your hands if you're saved in a part of this church or part of a church wave your hands praise the Lord let's let's prepare to go I pray to the day that the word of the Lord has given you something to hold on to this week amen all right let's get ready to go you all stand praise the Lord hallelujah [Music] don't forget Bible enrichment this week uh somebody's on schedule I just gotta find out who's on schedule uh but we will be
