us on world now on TVC news we begin here in Nigeria where flood waters have rendered thousands of residents of muguri The Boro state capital homeless with their houses submerged the flood according to sources is as a result of the collapse of the Ala Dam the incident which began few days ago reached its peak in the early hours of Tuesday displacing resident of about six communities the flood waters claimed several houses sh shops hospitals and other properties was billions of naira residents of the state capital have continued to flee to Safe places the state government is evacuating survivors of the flood to Temporary camps all right our senior reporter Pham Joshua has been uh Jess rather has been monitoring the situation he joins me now from borono state for more Jesse what more can you tell us about this incident in m at the moment now people are continuing to leave their homes to um search for sa places because the water level continue to increase um in the morning there are some are safer but now they are not because the waters are coming up um the national and state Emergency Management agencies have contined to rescue some people uh women and children most especially and they evacuating them to as far ground to some IDP camps in MRI to provide shelter for them and um we are expecting the vice president to be in meu any moment from now we are on our way to the airport um he is here at the instance of the president to come and commerate to the people of the state and are so much excited people are so excited because um we could hear from them that the vice president it means help is coming from the federal government uh those that are hopeless are not having some s of relief because they've heard that the president has given some orders for to the National Emergency Management agency to provide support for the victims all right but what's the general Outlook you know of mugui as a capital city now what does it look like in the aftermath of this um the area view of M capital shows that more than half of the state is been submerged with water and um these are public places talking about the popular m Monday markets hospitals schools uh shop worship places are all submerged and those unsaver places you see them outside trying to help victims coming out from uh areas that have been affected to assist them with their clothes and anything that they they can um salvate as the bero State um Zoo management of the zoo has released a statement notifying resident that um some of the wild animals are out and it's scary people should stay in the confines of their homes but people cannot do that people are outside trying to render help to those that are affected by the flood but um aot has been given to people to stay safe because in the state capital all right Jesse and we here this is the first time this is happening about 30 years yes this is happening 30 years ago similar inent happened in 1994 where some part of the Alo Jam was collapsed and then some part of the state was sub muched not at this but this is what people say is mysterious because this is the first time there been so much water covering the entire landscape all right Jesse thank you very much for that update we'll be back with you when the vice president arrives to get his message to the people an action that will be taken at this time to help those who have been affected by this flood thank you again Jesse we're still in Africa but this time uh Kenyan Hospital official says the former boyfriend of Ugandan Olympic athlet Rebecca chip who killed her by setting her on fire has died from Burns sustained in the same attack the Maran rner was ambushed by ex-boyfriend dexen and dma as she returned home from church more than a week ago he dowed her with petrol and set her a blaze local administrators say the two had been in conflict over a small piece of land in Northwest Kenya where Rebecca chap lived and trained mrma died on Monday night at Intensive Care Unit where he had been admitted with more than 30% burns on his body let's talk us Politics the very first debat between Democratic party presidential Norine Kamala Harris and the Republican party's Presidential nominee Donald Trump is scheduled to hold today President Joe Biden poor showing in the first presidential debate in late June created a lot of pressure within the Democratic party that led to him stepping down for Kamala Harris to pick up the Baton for the presidential race to continue we have a report on this as the clock ticks towards the hour of the debate Americans who say they want to know more about Cala Harris and the potentials of her targeted policies as well as the form of change her leadership could Usher into America would have her speaking to burning questions on the lines she will tilt the nation toour us if she wins the number one seat today we're for the former US president Donald Trump the debate could probably provide an opportunity for him to respond to issues brought to the Spotlight by democrats in their high energy convention which dominated International politics headlines although he's known for setting the TS of political conversations he is not widely expected to throw vice president Cala Harris a former attorney of balance the two candidates have used different ways of preparing for today's event vice president Harris has been in Pittsburgh near Philadelphia holding mock debates and reviewing her policy proposals this move has also allowed her to campaign and benefit from some local media coverage in the largest and most crucial Battleground state of Pennsylvania Donald Trump has been holding more informal sessions including reviewing his positions on key issues early voting is set to begin this month in some key Battleground States including Pennsylvania International Trade immigration border security health insurance the war in Gaza and the war between Russia and Ukraine are amongst matters expected to be on the front burner the debate could help set the political environment for the last two months of the 2024 presidential rise it will also be the last chance for the two candidates to reach some voters in stat where every V matter now they're trying to say she never was the borders are she had nothing to do with the borders she was the borders for an in-depth discussion of latest developments in US politics I'm now been joined from Houston Texas in the US by a global Affairs analyst Abid thank you for joining us on world now it show down day what are your expectations thank you for having me indeed it's going to be fireworks tonight when former president Trump and vice president Kamala haris face off on a nationally televised debate on ABC um I expect it to be very very feisty uh everyone is expecting Donald Trump to come back on the stage and be his usual self but I suspect he going to be this time because he facing off against a woman that is framed to be a very good prosecutor and who is going to be looking to take him to task in all his records well latest polls show that there's no clear lead between the two contenders how well could this debate influence a shift well there's a likelihood that this might be the only debate between the two contenders so it's going to be massive for both of them for carela Aris she needs to use it as an opportunity to introduce herself to a lot of people that do not yet know what who who who she is or what she stands for well they know she's a vice president uh but the the poll show that 28% of Americans are still not too familiar with position on a lot of issues so she has to use the stage tonight to explain our economic policies our policies uh regarding immigration and all the areas that people are concerned about and I expect also to focus lot on woman rights you know the rights for a woman to uh have uh the kind of healthare that they that they want especially in in the case of abortion which is a very hard topic here in the United States so she's going to use that opportunity to to introduce herself to a lot of people I expect that she will try and stay out of engaging with Donald Trump uh who is going to try and get under our skin as much as she's going to try and get under his SC but this is an opportunity for Kamar to introduce herself with vast majority of Americans especially as they are doing this in Pennsylvania so it's going to be interesting Donald Trump a lot of people already know what he's about so he's he's very very familiar with his stage given that he just debated Biden in in June so he's going to come in we might not know which Donal Trump will show up tonight but we expect that he's going to be his voice usual s but this might be the only chance we get to see the two of them go Toe to Toe expect expectations are really high but let's talk about the debate rules no audience no notes microphone to be muted when it's not candidates turn to speak what's your take about these rules interestingly these were rules that were asked for by Joe Biden uh because they they want Trump to uh you know hug the old debate to himself and when became the candidate they wanted our Ro revers because they were looking for opportunity for Trump to talk himself into trouble but I st time that that role is going to stand for tonight's debate I think it has it PR and cons in a way uh they cannot interrupt each other uh when the other person is speaking so every each of them will have an opportunity to deliver uh the message uh they want to and they can possibly not have an opportunity to question each other so really it's going to be who follows the rules the best that might come out uh looking better given the uh State RS all right and the debate is holding in Pennsylvania one of Us's key swing state what's your take about the choice of Philadelphia Pennsylvania for this crucial debate as it stands it's looking like the winner of the state of Pennsylvania will be heading to the White House in November with its 19 electoral votes and it's massive and uh it should not be lost on people that vice president chose Pennsylvania to prepare for this debate so she's been getting a lot of uh TV time as as you rightly reported and this is no mistake at all they are spending a lot of money in Pennsylvania and it's crucial absolutely crucial so it's just going to come down to Pennsylvania because if everything stands the way it is now whoever gets those votes would definitely head to the White House so everything points to Pennsylvania as a poal state that will keep the uh you know to the presidency one way or the other and looking a little beyond the debate day early voting is expected to begin this month in some key Battleground States could this be a defining factor for other candidates in this election absolutely because typically whoever is perceived as the winner of the debate tonight is going to expect to get a bounce now for vice president cish is hoping that a lot of Independents that will be watching will swing away and if that happens and they go to the post early she could get those early votes typically the way elections go in the United States especially presidential elections most of the voters that show up on on the day typically Republican voters so she will hope that she gets a lot of early votes that will now come in and probably negate count on that debt so it's very important for her to get our message across to stay to topic and basically win as many people as she hope tonight to Global Affairs analyst I thank you so much for talking to us on world now
