e e e e e all right how's everybody doing two quick shout outs uh Coach Brown and our soccer team uh Florida state gets to play the Bulls tomorrow night here defending national champs it'll be really cool good luck to the girls and as they embark on uh on hopefully a conference Championship season and Miss Kaye catrell voice of the Bulls her birthday today so two huge things coming up in in the next two days so um other than that just had uh just had practice 13 um went through a bunch of scrimmage like situations with a full full crew of officials some really really good work uh did half outside half inside and uh some really good work we've got an off day tomorrow for the guys and then finish up camp Friday Saturday uh with two really really big days for us as we work through a lot of situational football this is kind of like the the end of camp where a lot of critical situational type things that's been really the focus the last couple of days we talk about winning in the margins and the detail of that third down Red Zone today was spent almost the entire day in the Red Zone um obviously a year ago not good enough and it's been a huge huge point of emphasis so really proud of the work um really proud of of how these guys have pushed that's just talked to the team about these freshmen you know there's that point in Camp they've been in the hotel now for for two weeks and you could start to see it like the Freshman it's it's like a lot it's it's happening for them it's happening really fast so the challenge to our older guys to bring these young guys along we got some really special freshmen that are going to help us this year just keep bringing those guys along but proud of proud of where we are to this point we've got a long way to go I think that's the challenge to a to a team and A program that has never at least our guys our players have never had to deal with with expectations and the expectation coming from within our walls where the standards have been raised the standards have been attacked like crazy where it it's like every single little thing is getting coached at a high level and we've got a long way to go I think every coach in the country would say that but I truly believe we' got a long way to go um which is why these these last two days of Camp are huge and then we'll get into a mck game week next week uh which will be a normal game week for us uh in terms of game plan going in start getting ready for bethon cookman uh with those guys coming in here in a couple weeks so questions who are the stars of the camp who somebody says you know who really caught your eye put names immediately up in your mind I would say defensively you know guys like jayen Schuler who's G gained a bunch of weight and and is really coming into a role where we're expecting him to be a leader of the defense he's done a phenomenal job of not just leading but holding holding himself to a really really high standard him and Mac in there with a bunch of competition from Jamie pway like that competition from Lex long like that room Has Lifted each other up that's been an impressive group um Hawke has been really impressive on the D line Bernard Gooden has really done some incredible things just again put on a bunch of weight didn't play last year has added a pass rush element to us in the back end Rucker that corner group really like Rucker's been phenomenal um been really really impressive we saw it in the spring he's been phenomenal Brent Austin goes by Paco he's been really really impressive that depth there um Chenal for a freshman uh has been really really impressive you know offensively Mike Lofton he's taken his game to another level uh Byron Brown has been really impressive uh you know Michael Brown Stevens knock on Wood's been healthy all Camp he's done some incredible things um been really impressed by that running back room like Kelly Joiner right now is the best version of him he's been so fun to watch he had another phenomenal day he's put weight on he's strong he's he looks like what we were hoping we were going to get a year ago before we started moving positions with him Byron Browns steadily continued to to lift his game and you're starting to see this confidence come out of him which a year ago was he was still trying to figure out what the heck was going on Sean Atkins has been really steady you know the one freshman offensively that's been so impressive as is Josh Porter um he he's running right now with the twos taking some one reps he's played outside he's played inside local guy from you know Poke County that we we took with the hope that he would develop into a really good wide out he's he's one camp in and he's going to factor himself into playing a bunch of football for us he's been really impressive memory serves last year receivers with injuries it was then at times going now it seems like you know again like Mich Brown Stevens other guys if they say healthy but you got guys we haven't talked about yet that could be really good on this team is the receiver the depth of receiver something to do that are you trying to jinx us right now but again stay healthy it seems like there's some names we haven't even talked about yet that could be good players you know there's that that room is really interesting because LD has challenged that crew at such a high level so has coach Gordon like we have attacked that room that we're going to go as they go in terms of explosive plays the one thing that we kept harping on a year ago you know you got guys in there like Michael Brown Stevens who was a two-year starter at Minnesota was a captain there that's played a ton of football just couldn't stay healthy a year ago you got a guy in abdur rakman yaasin who started for two years at Purdue was super productive two seasons got cut short uh with injuries for him he's upped his game been really impressive as he's learned the offense you got a guy in Josh Hardman who who was a two-year starter at Wyoming who we tried to get here a year ago ended up going to Houston started week one got hurt there a year ago he's pushing everybody in that room like these are experienced dudes that have played a ton of football you throw in Sean Atkins in the mix you throw in jayquon Smith in the mix and you got still got Tyreek Kelly who you're bringing wrong keesan Singleton who you're bringing along and so you feel like you've got some more depth and then you throw in a guy like Brandon Winton who's Uber Uber talented who again creates a ton of competition in there so you're you you feel like you've got depth we saw it a year ago so I'm not letting you jinx us Joey we're we're just going to keep steadily improving in that room and then we'll see what happens how does the quarterback pecking order line up right now behind yeah you know what um Bryce has had a really really solid week I think that whole room was still feeling it out again there's all these wide outs that you're mixing and matching this old line that you're mixing and matching um but Bryce has been really impressive Izzy has brought his game up like that's what happens when you got guys that know the offense they just continue to push each other uh but those three guys have have competed like crazy you know I think I think Bryce and Izzy will continue to push each other they've split split two reps they've gotten some one reps um it's they're going to continue to compete there Marcela Tate has come along really well you know for for a guy that's that's a freshman first year in it spring was huge for him and you've seen him continuously grow um and briyan bulldock is in that group he's he's a a senior that's that's really steady for all of them uh it's been really really solid I I don't know that I could tell you a one two and three yet Coach a couple questions I'm going to go back to last week I asked you what changed in you and you said wide eyes what are the widey seeing this year yeah I think a lot more a lot more competition on both sides and the ability when you're when you see probably a bigger picture the ability to push the the twos and the threes to continue to go I think I'm seeing a lot more from a special teams perspective being involved there more than I more than I had been in a couple years and I coordinated that unit for a while so helping those guys and being involved in that I think like seeing mechanics of things you just added the coach to player you added the iPads so seeing seeing the mechanics trying to come up with a way to have an advantage with the mechanics being involved on both sides of the ball there um I think just honestly on a very on a deeper level the ability to build relationships with with more guys you know I I spent a year really harping so much on our coaches building relationships myself trying to build relationships while doing everything else I feel like I've been able to during practice go over and and spend time with the defensive guys like like that's probably my funnest part of practice is going and coaching up ball security with the DBS on interception drills and going where the linebackers usually just talking smack over there and going to one-on-one pass rush and encouraging the D line you know like feel more like I know what the heck is going on everywhere you know and um I felt like a year ago I I felt like I had a grasp on it I feel like now I've really got to grasp on it you leave your locker room what's the word or saying you got over that door that you want those players the last thing they want to see before they yeah not a big saying guy you know that but it just says be who you there you are running back had to address that went down the what's stat yeah you know he had surgery uh right after the spring game the hope is to get him back somewhere Midway through the season um him and really Jaden Alexis are on the same plan in terms of trying to get those guys back somewhere halfway through the season they've both had phenomenal rehabs and really shout out to you know Dr knoff and and our training staff they've done a really good job but in any rehab it comes down to the young man wanting to to continue to push through the really hard and they're kind of on the other side of it right now they're out running rehabing like crazy the hope is to get both those guys back last week special teams exploits how's he doing in returning puns he did return a lot of kicks only yeah you know he's he's competing really really hard right now um with Sean you know Shawn has been steady for us back there um we we've always just felt like man Shawn's the Steady Hand we need back there he's pushed Sean in a big way I think he's going to factor in back there yeah it's been fascinating we just finished I don't know if you you heard the loud music and the jump around in there finished with a couple of deep field goals that the field goal competition has been fascinating to watch because they've all stepped up with with John Cannon who's had a bunch of game experience with grammatica who had a spring under his belt but is is got a really cool confidence and swag about him and then Ty Palo has been super super consistent I I couldn't tell you right now who's going to kick field goals who's going to kick off fource but that competition's been awesome you know Andrew Stokes right now as the punters the best version of him that since we've been here I joke with him every day I hope I don't ever see him but um but he's done a really good job and then there's competition at Long Snapper with with the two guys and they're you know katey's doing a good job Trey is pushing um you know Kate's played so much college football at Charleston Southern that that he's got this Savvy and confidence about him so from a specialist standpoint there's a bunch of competition at field goal and at snapper right now we'll have to make some decisions here as we go into the weekend um and then overall you know I think if you talk to coach ker and and mausi like there's so many more Bodies part of it is you're you got 120 at camp now but there's we have so many more big skill bodies those linebacker tight end running backs um that a year ago we didn't have we didn't have running back depth we didn't have tight end depth we didn't have linebacker depth uh those big skill bodies your core special teams guys when you and you throw in guys like Amer Amer in the mix and and then you got these DB bodies that a year ago we didn't have that where you you have real speed and bring in these freshmen with Platt and Chenal and you got jquan Smith these guys that can roll that aren't necessarily true starters on offense or defense yet but we're so much deeper that you've got opportunities where we got to make some decisions in terms of do you burn red shirts or not and we'll we'll go go into early next week and and make a lot of those decisions but it's been it's been really good for us the 120's been helpful for us there's some Walk-Ons that normally wouldn't be in that are going to factor in on team team for us but I'm I'm excited to see what that is just with the depth of older bodies that you can play more guys you got so little um production from your tight end last year how is that room shaping up and how is Jonathan's Health this point yeah you know I production at tight end is deceiving because now you're talking to my heart there right um in terms of throw game it's it's the you know we played primarily the entire year last year in 11 and 12 Personnel well so they're out there every snap in terms of production if you're talking catch production yeah we certainly have recruited to hopefully increase that um you know like pton single ter has added a lot uh played a bunch of football at Cincinnati over the years really good receiving tight end the question was would he be willing to get in in the box and scrap it up and that's the one thing he's shown he's he's put on man almost 25 lbs in he's been here which for a fifth year senior that's a lot um and he's grown to have a bunch of confidence right now he's he's you know three weeks into the offense so he's still coming along but he's taken a bunch of one reps and has done a really good job Wes you know Wes when Wes was healthy a year ago was super reliable I think back to the catch uh you know in the last Drive of the Yukon game on Third and 14 you know he's we joke with him all the time he's got the best hands on the team we got a we we got to get him the ball you know Gunner greenwald's continued to develop you ask specifically Jonathan Eckles you know Jonathan um spent all spring coming off a knee he had knee surgery right when he got here um and spent all spring coming back from the knee really got cleared a week into Camp so he's still trying to figure out he's different in terms of his ability to catch the football his ability on the perimeter we're hoping here as we get into a mock game week he could continues to kind of figure out the offense and I think mentally he knows it we play so fast sometimes it takes a second from an athletic ability man like that's a pretty special cat there um he's he's could be as good as as as fast as he can develop we'd love for him to develop he's mentally got it he's a highly intelligent dude now it's just physically going out and doing and so we've poured a bunch of reps into him the last two weeks we're trying to be smart too a guy that missed spring uh I think him coming from IMG helps played against Elite competition in high school so he gets it uh but Uber competitive Uber smart um you know I I think as the season goes you'll see more of him but we got you know guys in there that that room is fascinating you got Evan dangler in there who we moved over from dline who made a name for himself this spring we're excited about him like I I think we can get into some bigger packages and do a bunch of really unique things um and so I don't know from a catch production standpoint we're certainly going to try to get those guys involved uh as much as imaginably possible we talk in that room in general just you earn the right to to put the ball to to put your hands on the ball and we'll continue to do so but feel like we got more weapons with pton obviously Wes a year older gunar Greenwald a year older throwing Jonathan in that mix um it'll be fun for us the more we can play with tight ends and multiple tight ends create formation ation I think that's the next step of growth for us offensively you talk about ni grammatica obviously that name creates a tension in this town his two uncles one of the better kickers to play here his dad pro bowler Etc how do you think growing up grammatica has helped him and how does he deal with the fact that he is going to get when you see that grammatic name that's going to he's going to be noticed more than any any other kicker around here yeah I think I think one thing that's really unique about Nico and I think when you meet the with with you know first of all he's not the best athlete in the family cuz Lil CIS is like all world all all world soccer player all World flag football player so I make sure Nico knows that every day uh but when you meet the family you realize where the confidence swag humility comes from like Nico is one of the dudes it's like you know like he's Incorporated himself into this team it's been awesome to watch you know he's not Martin's son he's not a grammatica he is a USF Bull it's been awesome to watch that um but the way he carries himself is what allows him to do that he's just he's got a confident swag about him um he'll miss a field goal he'll walk off with a smile be like I get the next one there's like this confidence um I don't I don't know what pressure he ever feels but the sense I get from the family is like man coach we just want him to have an experience of a lifetime and he'll earn everything he gets uh but what an Incredible family like as I've gotten to know know the family they're you would never know man that pro bowler you would never know any of that just as humble classy of a family as as we have as part of our program um and you could tell you could tell that um they were hard on him cuz he can handle hard which is awesome I think it's interesting Martine said he never coached them as a kicker stayed away from that part of it so I think he celebr like our is it too soon too soon too soon that was always an interesting aspect it was Dad yeah I ain't saying that awesome guys thank you so much oh they Bernard good be a treat for everybody yeah thank you how do how do tack Bernard good get to play this year so what was last year like for you um I want to say like that was like a big development year for me getting in the program getting the culture getting close to my teammates just learning the plays a little bit more getting more comfortable in the system so be basically I want to say like that was a big development yeah for sure I mean as I understand it I don't know the mechanics of it but it was you thought you could play but then you couldn't I mean the frustration part how'd you deal with that yeah I mean yeah really we was waiting a lot way like it was like from week one maybe all the way to like week three we was like okay we might be able to do it this week and then it was like I get the news like that Thursday like still nowhere it can't go so I mean at times it was frustrated but I I didn't let it show feel me because I just use it as an advantage just keep working keep getting bigger keep getting stronger so yeah team goals are easy want to be 12 and0 what's your biggest individual goal this year my biggest individual goal is just see the whole dine just like get after you know cuzz last year everybody coming to us like for sack production with run I just want to see the whole D line just eat man who's the biggest trash talker in your room uh well before it was channy man but I mean now I want to say it was me me and probably Doug now man but it's a healthy trash talk though for sure and it's a competition a little bit there yeah friendly competition yes sir what positions do you play uh right now I'm mainly focus on the three Tech but like I might go out to the five and certain packages but you'll see me every so you're sort of an undersized three Tech right yes sir so what does that mean in terms of what you think think you can bring with your size and speed versus somebody that maybe should look better bigger than you yeah U I want to say I definitely was strong for my size and like you know more dep my speed and my TT is so be able to get around them don't let them touch me but also you know we can go hand in hand too if we need to yeah so you're you're good with you're always going up against a bigger guy for the most part right that Leverage is it just it's speed beats power that's that's your approach no I got a lot of power man F some good numbers in there we going to see put it out there you know a lot of people don't know yet so we going to see that this year L man wins that's sir low man leverage natural do you think this team developed a good balance between the offense and defense you know you're not going to be known as an offensive team we saw the defense score points in the goal game especially but do you feel that that there's an equal footing between the two groups yeah definitely like man we got competitive on all sides every angle on the ball man from the o line to the D line to the wide receiver to the corner man it's like it's not just one about the other Lally like guys competing every day like battling like their butt off man every day literally so like it it's definitely fun man it breed competition for sure so said you put on some weight this year how much weight did you put on yeah I now sit at 275 man you know but after kill him definitely get like 280 so get so were you at the end of last year uh last year I actually came in kind of light I was like 265 I want to say around so like this whole summer we just been grinding putting on weight good weight though you know and like still keep my speed and stuff good what what led you here Florida I know I'm originally from Sarasota Florida and I always wanted to come back to Florida so really just a city born in Sarasota yeah I was really born in Sarasota Florida so I took my visit out here you didn't finished school there right no sir I really um I moved to M Alabama know no about there but down south how old were you uh uh on house 12 but we left here when I was like five you feel so we went there to Enterprise and then from Enterprise went to mon Alabama you don't really have like friends played at sasot B was it family members got Allon Brown what's going on how are y'all ion we've talked so much about you your grow with your majority and how Camp is going how about you're growing up who were your favorite teams favorite athletes regardless of what sport somebody you may have wanted to emulate favorite athletes I'll probably say Aaron Rogers for sure that's my favorite quarterback of all time and then um Kevin Durant me and him share the same birthday so uh I I I looked up to KD as a kid had all the shoes any particular teams that you really followed um for Carolina Panthers uh football w cuz I'm from North Carolina and then uh I mean I I'd say I'm a KD fan so wherever he went I was just pulling for their team why Aaron Rogers Aaron Rogers I mean his the way he throw the ball throws the ball is just effortless and like just being that fluid in your motion is just is just pretty to watch and uh pretty to pretty to see so pretty to emulate as well so just trying to incorporate that in my game as well last year you tended to home in on Shawn a lot I think he had twice as many catches as the next two guys combined what's it like to have such diversity of weapons in this Camp oh we had diverse uh weapons last year and and this year so uh it's really just going to be me focusing on my reads and uh go going wherever the ball takes me wherever my rakes me so um I mean everyone has done a tremendous job of getting open this camp and uh just learning each other's like uh Tendencies and how how they how they get open I think that'll really help with timing and ball placement and uh just being overall more accurate this year how important is it to strike that balance instead of having maybe one guy with 95 catches and a bunch of guys with 20 maybe having like several guys with 30 or 40 catches how important is that balance uh we're just going to spread the ball around and uh who whoever gets the ball we we're going to get into Playmakers hands and they they'll make plays so um we're really not just F honing in on Sean we're focusing on the whole team as well and you feel like you got more of those Playmakers this year we have we had Playmakers last year and this year so I mean it's pretty much the same we got like a lot of people that came back everybody knows Sean of course and and there's a lot of familiar with Naim Simmons but it seems like when you look at all these names in the receiver room there's some guys that could be pretty significant players that maybe some fans don't even know about yet so what about just the the people that could really emerge in that room this year you that's pretty much the whole room the whole room can emerge he just given the opportunity and uh you you'll see a lot of those guys get put in the rotation and um when their number is called they they they'll make plays they've been making plays out here allall Camp so uh I mean just be be aware for uh all the receivers tight ends running backs everybody coach was asked about the tight ends and wanting to get some more packages maybe even two tight end sets what's your impressions with how the rooms coming along there even he spoke about pton in particular too his development this Camp man they've they've come a long way and they've uh just put their head down and go to word that's a very tightnit tightnit unit they call them the tight friends um but uh they they come in and work each and every day and they've uh been very instrumental in like our offense because a lot of the things they they are involved with so um whether it's Run game pass game we they're definitely instrumental and uh play a pivotal role you know I looked at a picture of you last year at camp this is Byron Brown 2 point0 bigger faster stronger how do you feel I feel great I mean you know just being able to see the improvements in your body I I don't see it but like from pictures in the past I I've seen it that's a testament to coach Gio uh Connor our nutritionist um and just just the training staff so I mean it's been it's been great to see and like just like me the whole team has had gone through that same transformation so like I'm I'm eager to get out on the field on the field week one and play against bethon cookman what do you wait today what do I wait a day yeah 227 I believe still feels good with the weight yeah still feel great I know you were the leading rusher last year would it be nice to kind of pass that off to the guys that are running the ball oh for sure you know I'm just going to uh continue to follow my rules trust my rules and uh I mean I think we got some some great backs so they'll definitely take the load off and uh that's my my goal as well just give the ball to The Playmakers and let them make plays instead of uh just trying do trying and do too much last question thank you for your time when nayquan trucked that guy in Alabama you're on the field what was that what was that like man I was like man let's feed him again that's that was what was going through my head forgive me you you answered this last time what was your playing weight last year generally uh like 207 to 208 okay what do you see in the defense what what might be different about the defense course you go up on them during practice thing that you noticed that's a lot different at least a little different from last year at this time they got a lot of swagger and a lot of confidence um you know they got coach DVD over there bringing the juice coach to uh call calling the plays I mean pretty much everybody over there they they got that juice that Swagger that that confidence to them and just going against them makes us makes the whole offense better as a whole so uh our our goal is to be the best offense in the country and I think we're going against the best defense in the country when you talk to your teammates they always talk about how you prepare how you take care of your body how you do the right things to put yourself in a position and it seems like you did this back in high school too not everybody does that as you know some people do it so what what drives you what what is it about you that makes that important where it's like you're on schedule and you do this and you don't SLP off what you know what is it just the way you're wired or or something else that's the way I'm wired and you know I don't I don't want to look back on this and be like I have some regrets and I just want to do everything that I can to possibly get to that next level um so it starts with doing everything I can today and the next day and the next day just building and building and keep doing the doing the right things all the time so uh I try to stay up here as much as possible keep my body right keep my keep my brain right uh eat eat good so I'm I'm just trying to do everything that I can to be the best Barm I can be on the worst day when it's really hard do you tell yourself anything or is there something in your mind that keeps you okay I got to get I got to go here uh Ju Just My Dreams and aspirations you know just uh push through his tough times don't last forever and um just come and be the same exact guy I mean you will never know that I have a bad day I will be the exact same guy every single day um with a smile on my face and greeting you and making sure you're having a great day so uh that that's just how I was raised my family my mom my dad uh that's how they raised my little brother as well so I think uh TR truly a testament to them and U them instilling that in me at a young age so is is giving other people people a good day something that makes you feel good yes sir for sure how so I mean like do you just just being able to see them smile you know that that's uh a big reason why I wear the smile on my face and that's another reason why after football I want to be an orthodontist give a smile to people's faces so you know that that's why is there more is there more on your plate offensively this year Playbook wise and everything after having that year under your Bel as a starter that they were able to kind of grow the off this year you notice that uh yes sir we've definitely some things and uh have just really dove into the little details the finer details like the the fine print um just overall the whole quarterback room has been diving into those details as well so I mean I think we're doing a great job of coming out and executing and executing got executing at a high clip as well so uh TR truly looking forward to to week one is it going to be nice to go into kind of a game we mode next week and know Camp can get KN sometimes with the heat and everything but next week things kind of change a little bit is that provide a little spark coming down the stretch here uh it'll be nice but you know the coach Gish and Coach Gio they've done a tremendous job of just making sure that we're keeping our bodies right with uh fall Camp so uh I mean we're obviously looking forward to because that means it's one week closer to the game day so um that that's about it how do you describe I mean sort of in that dog days right now you're you're getting closer to the game you still get some time as a football player how do you how do you keep yourself you know charged up for that game I know you know the game is the thing so how do you keep yourself like uh you know in your best spot the game's so far away uh we're surrounded by Family 258 we're at the hotel here and here all day so I mean you know it's it's really easy to be charged up you're going in and playing with a guy that you're training with or that you're eating lunch with so uh just being being around the team we're we're all anxious but we know that we have a lot more things to clean up on and fix so that way we can going into week one with the same confidence and Swagger that we're having at practice than you 25 we another hour 25 never stops linebacker ma Harris how y'all doing question for M what do you see might be the biggest difference or two from the defense this year versus last year especially since you were but you started six or seven games last year you got a real good feel for things what's what's different about this group this year uh as far as our philosophy nothing nothing's different uh we still want to be a team that's going to run and hit uh we're going to be aggressive uh and we're going to run for our brothers but uh we're we're just really paying attention to the details more situationally um and and just really locking in on that and being real intentional with everything that we do noticed that the defense seems to be a more confident unit this Camp can you talk to that effect uh 100% um definitely just being uh in this package for another year uh just giving just giving us more confidence in the offseason working it um just OTAs uh and then guys getting in the me room a lot more often sticking around watching more films off uh defensive line and linebackers getting together linebackers and safeties getting together uh just really diving into the Playbook more and really trying to understand more about it and and just trying to get comfortable in it which is which leads to the confidence that Byron was talking about M when you look at from when you walk in the door here to now look at that Journey what's what what do you notice first how would you describe what this has been like for you and what what's the key element of your Matt Carris USF experience ah key element of the Matt Carris USF experience I would say I would say um just really giving myself a chance as far as again being intentional with with the weight room nutrition being in a training room uh studying more film being around the guys more often I mean Co like Co hit us hard just not being able to be around each other uh as much as we wanted to not being able to be in the locker room uh just and then having an amazing locker room the way we do just the indoor facility like all the just everything around us support staff everything just coming together as one to really just build this place up and and make it to where players are more comfortable being here more comfortable being around each other and and just diving into the Playbook and diving into football what we really love to do I think maybe people might not mention your name first on defense but you are a guy that makes big plays you fill key roles or you feel like you're just the in the The Quiet Shadows sometimes and and uh or does that matter to you doesn't matter at all I'm I'm I'm not I'm not here for the credentials I'm not here for the names honestly for the interviews or anything like that man I just want to be I just want to be a good leader a great leader elite leader I want to be um just somebody that's dependable you can count on me every time and I I just want to go out there and play with my boys that's all it just feels like there's a different energy too this year here at Camp a lot of it could be the expectations a lot of it could be the buzz coming off what how guys finished last year you guys kind of feel that do you feed off that at all oh absolutely I mean the the there's a there's a standard and we we want to exceed it every single time so last year's standard is not this year's standard we want to be bigger we want to be better stronger faster uh we want to be more together and we just want to go out and be able to compete and and show everybody what USF is really about you're coming off a shut out of Syracuse right how important was that did you like want to let's go play another game or does it just get excited to get to OTA to get to the winner program coming off that kind of game I mean you hit it right on the head I mean it was it was it was something that as a defense one we knew we were trying to be we knew that we could be and and that alone like you said just giving us the confidence to be like okay off season we hit it hard and that's the that's the defense that we can be that's the offense that we can be we can go score 45 we can go score 50 we can shut people out that's that's who we want to be and and being in that game playing in that game and it it really was a a show and tell of who we could be as a team but especially as a defense team goals are real easy you want to be 120 right what's your biggest individual goal my biggest individual goal honestly is is is to come out and like just like I told him I I just want to be an elite leader I just want to be an elite leader I want to be a guy that somebody that that the guys can follow that the young guys can look up to that my teammates on the side of my coaches the the university can depend on to do his job every single time be a part part of the group that brings this place to the highest e 100% 100% so you have a very strong voice seem like somebody that could could have people follow him is that who you are I mean that's who you seek to be but is that a 15-year-old Matt Carris or you the guy that hey let's follow him you know that kind of thing I've always been loud this this this runs into the family I've always been a loud person I've always been really energetic I'm always going to be smiling I'm always going to be playing around with the guys so yeah I I'm I'm naturally uh an outspoken guy I'm going I'm going to speak up about the things I need to speak up about I'm not going to overstep I'm not going to uh nitpick or anything like that but there's there's a certain way it needs to be and and I'm I'm one of the people on this team that are going to make sure it gets that way so your your family is oh yeah if I got my dad in here y'all be like oh that's a spitting image of him oh man what's what's that like just a lot of people talking over each other that guy so me my dad and uh uh my my granddad he just passed away not too long long ago but we all have the same name so we're all loud we're all you know what I'm saying we're all the same we're funny we're all energetic smiling all the time and you get together at Family reunions you say mac and there's 16 eyes looking at you cuz we all got the same name so yeah name is Mac oh yes oh yes it's just Mac Oh MacArthur is the MacArthur Harris the third that's what I am but Marthur MacArthur har middle name Michel is the middle name Michel how you spell it m y k e l Marthur Michel Harris the third yes sir that's me yeah I got you yep so if something's going wrong you're not going to sit back and you're you're you're talking about it right I'm talking about calling it out I'm talking about it I'm calling it out but it's not it's not a thing where I'm better than you you're better than me it's an understood thing as as far as the defense and as far as the team like there's a standard there's a standard and and there are going to be people who call it out and there are going to be people who who check it and correct it and the guys who are being checked and corrected understand completely and it you know it's checks and balances I I'll call you there someday somebody might call me out that's it's just the the the standard that we've built here as a team player to player coach to coach player to coach coach to player so when football is done what do you imagine you'll you'll be up to on your mind for life it's a lot I want to do a lot um I I definitely want to give back to um to younger to younger kids for sure I I don't know what that's going to be I don't know if it's going to be coaching I don't know what that's going to be but I definitely want to give back I feel like I have a lot of information to share feel like I've been through a lot of things that um I can relate to a lot of people in in a lot of different um circumstances so I definitely want to give back um I'm also into uh marketing and advertising that that's something that just Sparks me I don't know why but it just does that's your major integrated public relations and advertising yep that's my major so you're going to be somebody who will s sell something to sell a campaign or something like that I really I really want to be a marketing consultant for a big company like Adidas or like Nike or something like that yep M you join your time here looking at this pre season you have a few guys that are on watch list right the team has been picked as high as second in the American you've never had that kind of buzz in your years here previously is that meaningful to you that people are starting to recognize USF or is it just kind of okay take your business one day at a time I mean I mean it means something but that's that's not what we work for we don't really work for the recognition we we just work for each other honestly just going out there for the guy next to you it when you do it that way it means a lot more if you do it for the recognition if you do it for the coach's trust it it when it boils down to the hard nitty-gritty stuff it'll it'll just blow away but when you do it for the guy next to you it means a lot more when you don't want to let that guy down it means way more so that's really what we do it for but we definitely take notice and and it honestly just motivates us a little bit more but the motivation for sure comes player to player any favorite athletes as you were growing up or teams uh favorite athletes Troy palum Malu uh Jamal Adams now mind y'all I came out of high school playing quarterback and safety so a lot of these guys I'm naming are going to be safeties so Jamal Adams um Kevin berer which is actually crazy because he got his little brother on the team so that was pretty cool um Ray Lewis obviously uh but yeah uh Brian Dawkins for sure Brian Dawkins for sure what's your playing weight this year versus last year right now uh just weighed in today I'm 229 and you were what were you last year last last year I was ranging from about 238 to about 245 yeah hey M when you got a quarterback like Aon Brown on like a ton of watch list iite people people externally think oh this team's going to score a lot of points this is going to be an offensive team but can this team have a defensive identity where people go that defense is pretty damn good too 100% 100% we we've got guys all over the place that are going to make plays all over the place and and again Byrum will be that he's he's a great leader elite leader actually uh Elite player smart I mean I could go on and on about that guy but defensively like I said we going running hit and and everything is going to fall into place as it should you mentioned family reunion what's the volume level like at those loud loud everybody screaming over everybody kids running around just it's loud but it's all love a lot of music lot of music very uh a very musically inclined family seems like m what you're saying that what goes on out here the little things the work you do the the trust you have with the teammates that all means something to you% all this work that we don't see in football that you guys put in so is this does the sport kind of speak to what you believe in like how hard you got to work to get to a level and just how you can't cheat the process and all is that that who you are oh yeah for sure I mean and credit to my parents man I I watch I watch those two people like grind and grind and grind since I was a kid like Mom having two jobs Dad having two jobs working here so I can go to school there like just just that that's just been the identity of my family and I kind of grew up into that got raised into that and something I always like told uh when I got into high school I actually played with like really Elite high school basketball players and I'm a football player defensive guy I'm not going to go score 30 points 20 points 15 points but I was a guy that was you may be more talented than me but I'm going outwork you so that that's always been my model it grew it was through my family and I came up with it as well what jobs did your dad and mom do my dad worked construction for a really long time worked in a nursing home for a little bit mom she's uh she really just going to school for majority of my life and also being a nurse she's now a travel nurse uh really proud of her she's done a really good job handling whatever she had to handle at home as well as going to school as well as being up 4:00 in the morning to go to work so yeah proud of both of them yeah work eics giving for your family oh giving must must do my dad's been working since he was 15 years old so I'm gonna follow up on Joe's question at the reunion is there enough food on those picnic tables to feed a small City oh you best believe it and enough food for you too if you show up I got you y or MC Mac capital A okay awesome yes sir thank you y have a good one thank thanks man thank you everybody
