Indiana vs. FIU Game Recap - College Football Week 1

Indiana hooer start off the Kurt cetti era I guess we're going to call that the era now with a 317 home victory over Florida International a game that was you know they got out to a really early start they were up 14 nothing FIU was kind of able to I for anyone listening to this I'll put this in quotation marks here hang around I guess per se they they gota they got a touchdown there in the second quarter uh but once that happened uh Indiana was able to rip off uh 17 unanswered points the rest of the game to win 31-7 I got my good friend Dion here with me Dion what are your early takeaways from this game before we kind of jump into the what does the Curt senetti era look like for for the Indiana hooers my early takeaway uh you don't always got to be a results guy this team is very fun like it doesn't matter how many games you think they're going to win this year what's their I think their total is like four and a half maybe maybe five and a half something like that it they could win four this is a very very fun team it's basically you know it's the Indiana Ohio hooers that's what I've been calling them um but this is a very very fun team um Elijah green five rushes 82 yards and a touchdown how does he only get five touches I get everybody was running all over FIU but how how does he only get five touches I'm not sure and that's one thing that I think that's one thing that maybe sometimes annoys me at the college level uh I think that sometimes college teams look at what the NFL does and like oh let's split carries let's split carries no bring back good oldfashioned college football running backs like 40 totes a game you see what Ali Gordon's doing at Oklahoma State just get one running back and give them 36 touches a game and yes maybe they're worn out for their NFL teams but that's not for you to worry about you need to maximize all the rushes but you pointed that out they racked up 1 34 yard rushing as a team on 40 attempts so like that was something that you know you could maybe see the team tried to make a you know make a a focal point that they're going to be able to run the football which you need to do especially at I mean at any level of football you need to run the foot run the ball but especially at the college level um when you have a quarterback who he has success at his last stop obviously but this is his first game new team new conference um you definitely need to uh you need to have some type of rushing attack to take some pressure off of him what did you think of roor in his first game uh as Indiana for the quarterback I thought he looked solid I thought he looked solid you know what I mean like he he did the uh you know not to use will Howard's quote but he didn't make mistakes you know what I mean he did exactly what he was supposed to do um like when I look at this team and I look at like that future outlook which I'm incredibly high on Indiana like moving forward um if they did a quarterback you know not that there's anything wrong with Curtis Ro right but if they get that star level quarterback that you know hint hint Juju Lewis that they're all gunning for that's the missing piece on this team like I think they got a lot of everything else going for him right now yeah definitely and look you you always want to you no matter what you want to win your first game you especially want to win your first game as your first first game as head coach of new program all the offseason stuff you had the stuff about him basically calling the Big 10 ass uh saying he wanted to see them and all this stuff and everything going around the Indiana football program right now um they were able to come out get the win that's important Also if anyone can get me one of those cetti like cigarette T-shirts they were handing out in the student section I need one of those immediately and I mean now possibly two if I can get greedy um but I do want to move to some negative things that I saw in this game uh one in particular and I am a big 10 junkie right more so than Dion Dion is is new into the Big 10 world he's he's on the west coast but he he dips into the Big 10 when needed IU football in the past has always been synonymous with shoot themselves in the foot like they'll be in a game but when it gets down to winning time they'll find a way to they'll find a way to blow it no matter what whether it's a penalty whether it's a stupid interception stupid turnover they'll find a way to do that in this game I kind of expected things to be a little bit more clean right and not clean as far as execution but clean as far as like penalties they had 80 penalty yards in this game and some of them were very like I guess nonsense penalties like they were unfor like an unforced turnover of penalties they didn't really need them we saw coach cetti honestly visibly frustrated on the sideline cameras did a great job of finding him whenever these penalties were called um I I think penalties were definitely an issue in this game as well as pass blocking there was a a portion of the second half where the minute roor got the snap there was people in his face now credit to the o line like we said we gave them credit for what they were able to do in the Run game um but if you don't give your quarterback time you're not going to be able to win football games and if you penalize yourself you're not going to be able to win football games uh how worried should they be about that moving forward do you think I mean I I think personally I mean you touched on us getting ready to discuss like the future of the the cetti era right like I kind of just feel like this team's meant to just be fun this year right like you know sneak into a bowl game look good have fun like when you're a new coach that is doing what he's doing which is changing a culture you get that first year to kind of do whatever you're playing with house money you know what I mean it's next year when he gets his recruiting class in and he gets his transfer portal guys in you know and I use quotes for that because kind of already with the portal you kind of already have your own recruiting class every year but you know what I mean like he so I mean I think they should be concerned if Indiana fans are like we want to win eight or nine games this year but if you're like I just want to have fun and maybe make a bowl game I thought this team did exactly what they're supposed to do right and that's what and that's what it is in in the first year no one I don't think anyone with has realistic expectations for this except ketti I think konet thinks he they're going to the C football playoff which is good you want your coach to be in the most endearing way your coach being a psycho can be really good for the team like that that's it could go one way or the other either him being a psycho just goes Incredible or it just go completely sou but in kson Ed's eyes it's going to go incredible um so I guess it's going to be an interesting season to see one thing of not last thing I wanted to mention um I was able to see some postgame quotes from the players and coaches after this game and the one the first thing or one of the first things they brought up was that the student section basically left at halftime like a Max Exodus um and I guess that happened a lot last season um but I guess you know coach zetti was like [ __ ] we're we're going to be good now like we need yall to stay the whole game cetti actually came out and said like yeah they we notice it's noticeable that they left at halftime um I think there needs to be somewhat of a a power for environment in this stadium and we got to play better too to make them want to stay but [ __ ] you know this all too well yeah like there are games where crowd environments can win teams games when they're lesser talented so you definitely want to have um have that out there it was also funny they asked the running back taan Len about it he said yeah the atmosphere was crazy the walk the tailgating everything was great it was good until halftime everybody left like he literally came out and said that so if the team is noticing this the coach is noticing this you can't be leaving at hat I I get it I know I know Bloomington was going up this weekend respectfully uh they definitely want to get a head start over to the main street down there but uh yeah if you if you do want to create a winning type power four level environment and get like transfers and people up there you you got to have students be there the whole game uh Dion would you have left a half time of this game no and two things one Signet saying we have to play better for them to stay like he won 31 to7 you know you almost covered the spread like how much better can you add especially in the first half right like the first half was like the better half for them so like how much better could they could they play you know what I mean yeah you know you got you got a rule in favor cinnati on this one I think he's right facts facts but like you know like I get like he thought they were going to win by 70 but like that was a pretty good that was a pretty good performance for them but two every Indiana fan bro you're you're big 10 Twitter like I'm getting involved in it trying to get in the mix Indiana fans they don't shut up about their recruiting class next year imagine if you're the recruiting class and you just you're like oh let me tap in to see like what Indiana's doing and there's no fans there in the third quarter yeah you you just can't you you can't have that they got to especially like y'all winning like go stay there and watch your team for and do good like that's that's you shouldn't have have players being like yeah it was it was like it was noticebly empty after halftime like like they noticed that uh that's definitely not something you you definitely want but look the cetti air is underway I'll be excited to watch it during this whole season IE hey can I ask can I ask a college football fan question please we always hear college football fans wanted to get a head start so they left the St can you not drink at college football stadium do they not sell alcohol bro like not not not at all state really they just literally just last year for the state of Michigan as a whole they approved the sale of beer at the games yeah uh also I'mma let me give you a little insight here me and G went on that college hoops the gold trip and we went on that Main Street I respect it I might not even went to the football game that place was special it really it truly was but uh look good first win for Indiana uh we'll see what the rest of the football season looks like and you know we'll have every preview and recap for Indiana
