with a story three three agent wide receivers that the chief should sign after the Hollywood Brown injury including an ex- Ral and a familiar face however Matt naggie reveals Hollywood Brown surprise week one replacement and it might not be who you think it is and after Carson Steel's huge showing in his first preseason game he received his most reps at first and second team in practice on Tuesday before the Super Bowl Hollywood Brown Replacement #1 Hunter Renfrow Mike let's talk about Hollywood Browns replacement so right off the rip Steve we're going to jump right into it Hunter Renfro number one is named as a Hollywood Brown replacement it's surprising that the former Raider is still available in free agency he's an effective slot receiver and it 28 years old theoretically has plenty of good football left in him he goes on to say he's an excellent route Runner with a keen understanding of spacing Renfro had 103 catches for 1,38 yards and nine TDS in 2021 he's failed to reach those Heights in recent years though Patrick Mahomes would be the best QB he's ever caught passes from by a healthy margin Steve I like Hunter Renfro here I didn't think I was going to like what this guy said and right off the rip I'm digging the hunter Renfro absolutely love this idea he'd be super cheap and Hunter rro is that guy if you ask other players in the NFL who one of the best route Runners is in the league Hunter renfro's name comes up more often than you would think he's a good player he's on the cheap and like he said Patrick Mahomes would be by far the greatest quarterback that he's ever played for and could really get him back to topnotch right look Derek Carr a little baby Carr or Patrick Mahomes come on Patrick Mahomes is going to be able to like destroy with him the problem is he's another slot receiver do we really need more slot receivers however unlike our slot receivers Hunter infro can get open he's good at Whi routes he's good at finding space in the zone I think that'd be something to look at it's kind of odd he's not been looked at to this point just like the author of the Replacement #2 Juju Smith-Schuster article said moving on number two we've talked about ju guu and here he comes again a reunion with Juju Smith Schuster feels unlikely at best though similar to MCO Hardman last year he could be a player already familiar with the offense who could help for the first few weeks of the Season he goes on to say his kns and general Effectiveness provide big question marks but Smith shusher is just one season removed from being the chief's leading receiver on a Super Bowl team if Casey thinks there's anything left in the tank it wouldn't require much time to familiarize himself with the scheme Steve a lot of people like ju guu we don't think it's a possibility I think that knee is a little worse off than they seem to think obviously that's why Brett Vach didn't have them back last season but a lot of chiefs Kingdom like the idea bring him back Juju he would definitely be a quick little Band-Aid while Hollywood Brown is out we know he's familiar with the offense but you know you're not going to get any consistency from Juju Smith Shuster right he's going to have problems with that knee he missed a lot of time when he was in Kansas City and I think he's going to continue to lose a lot of time in his career because of that recurring knee injury and that's why I don't think they'll have him back Mike it's kind of like that mle Hardman signing like was said in the article it's a guy that's familiar with the team they like him he's in the locker room but he's not going to offer you a whole lot more than that right here's the problem he's a little physical he does what Rashid rice does they have Rashid rice we're replacing Hollywood Brown so let's move Replacement #3 Jamal Agnew on to number three Jamal agnu formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars it says the list of available wide receivers at this point is small and unexciting which leads you to a name like former lions and Jags wide receiver Jamaal agnu while players like Michael Thomas or even Richie James are out there someone in ago's mode probably makes more sense he goes on to say he's a stellar Return Man being named a first team allpro in his rookie season in Detroit then made the Pro Bowl in 2022 at Jacksonville agnu has never cleared 230 receiving yards in a season though cadarius Tony only has once and that didn't stop the Chiefs from acquiring him agu would not be the sexiest receiver signing he would however come cheap and not require a big role as someone like Michael Thomas might considering the importance and quality of returners with the NFL's new kickoff rule agnu could prove to be a valuable addition this late in the campaign oh you don't like it you don't like it Steve we did have some problems we did have some problems with special teams the other night could agnu be a piece that could maybe help that agnu would be no different than Richie James was last season it's a guy that could offer you a little bit in special teams it's a guy that can run a good route for you he's pretty quick but guess what they're not going to use him Richie James was complaining that he didn't get enough opportunities if Richie James couldn't get the opportunities last year agnu is not going to either I think that's a waste right I don't think special teams is that big of a deal we've got lrz we've got Nico there's several guys mcole Hardman you name it they can return if we had to be Dire Straits Isaiah Pacho can do it okay we don't need to go sign a return man if you're going to look to replace Hollywood Brown get a receiver Chiefs REVEAL the REAL Replacement Matt naggie Steve he revealed that surprise Hollywood Brown week one replacement and they don't think they have to go out and get any of these guys they think they have it in house and we've been talking about them before offensive coordinator Matt naggie spoke to reporters following Tuesday's practice singling out veteran wide receiver Justin Watson as a player who will step up and fill Brown's Road should the speeder Miss week one against the Ravens on September 5th that's looking more and more likely to be honest and on Monday Reed wouldn't rule out Brown playing in week one though Tuesday's comments from naggie poured cold water on that possibility Watson quickly became a trusted Target for Patrick Mahomes over the last two years he caught 27 of 53 passes for 560 yards and three tutes averaging 17 yards for catch with numerous third down conversions to move the sticks Steve I've been saying this time and time again Patrick Mahomes trust Justin Watson the coaching staff trust Justin Watson he is wide receiver four Matt naggie just revealed that we have a top three now we have a top four yeah I think it was quite obvious that Justin Watson was wide receiver four he went down at Camp they slid Sky Moore into his spot that means Sky Moore could potentially be number five we don't really have any idea but like you've mentioned before and I'll give credit where to do you said Justin Watson's probably a loot because he's a guy that they can put all over the field that they can put him at a number one position if they have to and he can fill that role that's exactly what they're looking at him to do they know that Patrick Mahomes has good chemistry with him they know that he trusts him and he's a smart player he's a fast player and I think he'll get the job done and feeling just fine for Hollywood Brown yeah it's looking like Watson's the definite number four you alluded to number five it's between cadarius Tony right now in my opinion or it's between Sky Moore Nico just Ross cadas Tony's been on the hot seat here lately both Andy and Matt naggie come out and said look availability give us availability and he's not doing that so I feel like he's on thin ice right now I I'm with you I think Sky Moore is probably that number five Justin Watson's proven for sure to be that lock number four Steve Carson Steele CLIMBING Depth Chart moving on to Carson still he had a big day in Jacksonville and as you already pointed out Jesse new said he had his most reps with the first team and second team offensive units today still turned four car carries into 29 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 26 to3 loss the 21-year-old took advantage of Clyde being sick and missing another practice this week seeing additional work over the likes of daic Prince and keante Ingram According to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead he was as a running back said Andy Reid he's learning the fullback spot as needed we used Noah gray there last year who can still do that for us if he's going to make this team he's got to be a good special teams player and he's got to be able to carry the football and stay aggressive like he's doing right now but he did have a productive day it's looking like a lot of chiefs kingdom are turning on jic Prince again because he didn't have any big Flash plays we've seen that last year we've seen it with L Michel perine and then you've seen what happened when he was put in the game I don't think you have to have big splash plays in the preseason to be valuable but a lot of chiefs kingdoms think you do and they think Carson steel is rb2 it looks like he's getting the reps with Clyde being sick Mike horn levels at 11 baby they turned it up Carson still had a great game against Jacksonville when your first touch in the NFL goes for 20 yards with three broken tackles and you look like a miniature Mike allot out there you look like Prime Time Payton Hillis yeah then yeah people are going to get a little horked up but I think what you were saying makes more sense it's not about the splash plays it's about consist consy they've said they wanted it with cadarius Tony just be available be consistent they want the same thing with every player Andy tells every player that it's all about consistently being the best that you can be I think that Carson still is going to continue to run hard and play well and put up a good argument for why he should be on this roster yeah I don't think it matters if you label him rb2 rb3 rb4 also don't think it matters if you say he's a running back or a fullback I think the Chiefs are going to take four ultimately be that three running backs and one fullback are just four running backs I think the guys that are probably on the bubble is Keon Ingram and I think it's going to be lrz and this also brings up a point he mentioned Noah gray they've been running IR Smith as that h-back fullback this may mean Irv Smith is out the door now it's looking crazy Steve but we got a few more weeks to figure this out it's going to be a good time yeah and I think it goes a long way at where Lewis ree damit sits right now for this roster spot when Andy is saying Carson steel looked a hell of a lot better than anybody else did at running back still has to be good at special teams to make this roster now we're talking L ree Dam who doesn't offer you anything as a running back yet he just isn't comfortable there yet he hasn't learned the in a boot and is week to week but not long term what do you think about it Mike yeah I like Tyrone Tracy coming out of Purdue the dude played wide receiver they moved him to running back you could tell he was a wide receiver he ran a little too upright this was going to be hard to translate over but he has a lot of moves he's good in the open field I thought he was somebody that could have replaced Jerick McKinnon late in the draft the Giants apparently thought the same thing they took a fly on him I think he's going to be good but look it's injury season it's it's just good that it wasn't nothing even more significant because when he got carded off everybody thought it was way worse than it was Patriots defensive lineman Christian barmore returns to watch practice following
