Madden 24 - Dallas Cowboys @ Los Angeles Chargers - Week 6 Monday Night Football [Applause] it's Madden NFL 24 and we'll get to see a battle for conference superiority it's the Dallas Cowboys in the Los Angeles Chargers and it's coming up next night beginning to fall over Southern California but the lights are shining bright here at the spectacular Sofi Stadium Metropolitan Los Angeles coming up we've got what should prove to be a good one as it'll be the Dallas Cowboys taking on the LA [Applause] Chargers alongside my partner Charles Davis I'm Brandon G happy to be with you and CD as we get this thing going give the folks at home something to keep their eye on the running game for both teams because I think this is going to be an oldfashioned old school type of a game physical who wins up front who runs the ball the best and controls the clock they will come out the [Applause] [Applause] victor [Applause] 1st quarter the kick team out there for the Cowboys as they run up to send this one [Applause] away and able to get this out to the 25 so the charger offense making its way out and at the controls is the League's second leading passer a year ago at 25 years of age out of Oregon it's Justin Herbert the Chargers just continue to improve and take steps forward under the quiet leadership of Herbert who's been the most productive quarterback in league history through his first three seasons over 4700 yards last year he's expecting to crack the 5,000 yd Mark in this season playaction it's Herbert that's going to be caught it's Palmer and he'll have it past Midfield almost to the 40 before being taken down it's a gain of 34 I've heard a quick strike offenses but this is taken that to the extreme I mean the very first SN of the ball game normally you're thinking let's get our quarterback comfortable and get him into the floor of the game but not here they come out attacking from the outset and it pays off in a big way so the big play gets him across Midfield now for first and 10 now the seven-year veteran Austin ekler and he works his way forward to pick up four yards there second down and that was a quality play to start a new set of downs that was simply an offensive line winning the battle up front and winning in a big way and giving their guy in the back a nice Lane to hit now a second and six now it's Herbert that's caught by his tight end Gerald evett seven yards there and a first down that early game script that they drew up is working pretty well here on this first drive already in field goal range Charles knocking on the door of the Red Zone you know Brandon when we met with the coaching staff they kind of predicted that they would come out firing like this I think you and I were a little skeptical it'd be this easy but they certainly knew what they were doing in scouting in preparation and understanding what their team was capable of and he stopped right at the 25 after a gain of five well that's what you're looking for when you want to throw the ball down field you want one of those guys who can play out on the perimeter can play out wide who can not only get open but when they're covered can uncover themselves down field and create catches up [Music] Herbert this is caught touchdown Josh Palmer 25 yds for the touchdown and the Chargers will claim the early lead as they're on the board first here tonight personally for him a great opening drive he had three catches including the touchdown that felt like tremendous scouting great film watching and creating a game plan to start this off not only to get him involved but to send a message to the defense you have a lot to handle in this one for the extra point Cameron [Applause] Dicker and the Chargers grab the seven nothing lead that time 75 yd draw of five plays and it ends with a touchdown pass to Josh [Applause] Palmer [Applause] here's Dicker now as he'll send this one away kavante Turpin now from his end zone and they'll get him down right around the 25 actually the 26 officially so a net gain of one there so the Cowboys ready to go on offense for the first time and it is their now 30-year-old quarterback Dak Prescott who leads the way Prescott has some things to clean up from last season leading the NFL with 15 interceptions and only 12 games played but we can't Overlook the good 23 touchdowns and an eight and four record as a starter as he led the Cowboys to consecutive postseasons for the first time since 2007 so Prescott of the Cowboys now with a first and 10 at their own 26 now a man who's taken the reigns with the Cowboys it's Tony Pard and he Powers his way up past the 30 he was brought down by Michael Davis that a really nice job by them picking up the run blitz and detecting it and blocking it and turning into a nice run and a lot of times you think if you you Blitz a running play you're going to smother it but a lot of the blitzers they come in a little bit high they don't have great leverage and they're easily blocked and turned to the side and they'll stop him after a gain of a couple to the 33 but not much on that run Charles no that's exactly the way to execute a run blitz there they guessed correctly that they would move the ball on the ground honed in on it and stopped him marked that down for a win in the defense's column third and three [Applause] now Prescott work in the middle of the field and he's got a man complete and he will have a Cowboys first down and he was able to get it by plenty a gain of eight on Third and three well on third down he wanted to go to one of his most Dependable targets and that's who he found his tight end there to pick up the first Charles and you use the proper word there dependable and sometimes spectacular because tight ends nowadays they can do it all but they're the guys you trust especially across the middle of the field where there's traffic he delivers and they pick up nice yardage and he is going to lose yardage here and he lost six there on the first down play that was well played there defensively two tight ends in the formation which essentially gave him seven blockers up front hard to imagine with all that size and beef that they could let a tackler through but that's exactly what happened a loss resulted here's Prescott he finds his man complete it's Ferguson and he's brought to the ground with another first down at the Chargers 38 yd line a good pickup there 26 yds that was good protection there no that was great protection there because it allowed him to lock in on his receiver although I think he was looking for his tight end on the corner route all the way nice connection there for a really nice gain they'll go with Pard here on first down and he is going to lose yardage here officially it's a one yd loss that's going to bring up second and 11 an interesting and intriguing decision there defensively because they kept extra DBS on the field despite seeing the multiple tight end look that came out for the offense I thought they were going to switch out of it I didn't know if they felt they didn't have time or what the case was well in any event the extra speed allowed for great penetration as they Stu that one behind the line of scrimmage he's brought down at the 34 call it a gain of four and there's a completion to the tight end and look at the size of these players nowadays at that spot 6'4 65 and up a lot of guys used to be basketball players somehow came back to football and that's really good for the game of football you get better athleticism great hand eye coordination guys who know how to control their bodies when they run their routs here's a screen now for Pard and he'll be taken down but he does have first down yardage a strong eight yards will keep this drive rolling really a solid start here on the opening drive Charles he's now 44 and they're already in plus territory Brandon he's been so precise to start this game like we're watching an operation taking place right now master surgeon at work counting down toward the Midway point in corner [Music] one a first down throw for Prescott and in complete a drop there in the middle third of the field that'll bring up second down everything looked right on that play except the conclusion he dropped it an in route going into a little bit of traffic maybe in the back of his mind he was wondering where the hit was going to come from now a second and 10 Prescott yet again and Cooks has it over the middle nine yds not quite enough and they'll be left now with third and one and forget about the run to set up the pass they're just coming out throwing forget trying to set anything up they feel like they have the advantage they feel like they have the matchups and they're just attacking right now they going to the air on the opening drive here now third and a yard to throw is Prescott he's got his Target that's complete and the Cowboys are going to have a first and goal coming up as they find a way to convert there on Third and one the opening drive it continues Charles to be all pass and it's working now they're on the doorstep of a touchdown here first and goal Brandon because it's working so well I think the entire Playbook is open for them right now do you want to run it do you want to continue to throw it spin the dial make your choice but right now you like what you're doing in this possession no gain on the play that time and it sets up second and goal you can do one of two things after a penalty you can hang your head or you can get get mad and redouble your efforts I think we just saw the ladder there as they stopped him for no game a line of scrimmage once again the five as they get ready for second and goal and now some motion before the snap and this will be our first penalty of the night's proceedings oh moving from his tight end spot there do you think that perhaps the play call was for him things made a little more difficult after the false start as they try again on second and goal now Prescott and that falls to the ground incomplete a nice job of Bing him up defensively and now it brings up third down it's been a good opening drive offensively thus far but you know they don't want to waste it in sett for a field goal attempt after that incompletion so this is a big play coming up here on third down Prescott on Third and goal drops this underneath for Pard and he's able to get it down to the 2yd line they do get eight out of the pitch and catch however it's fourth down oh my that's a heck of a tackle right there on third down because they had to swing it out to the back and hope that he could make a play but let's face it in order for him to be there and be in that position in order to make that play he had to read his keys and not be fo excellent job in the open field and his kick here is good so a conservative decision there but it does put him on the board and I know the players hate it and the coaches hate it but sometimes you just got to take the points when they're there sometimes a field goal is pretty darn [Applause] good [Applause] the kick team out there for the Cowboys as they run up to send this one away this taken in at the goal line and he'll go down as this drive will start at the 25 yd line the Chargers get set to go here for their second Drive drive a long drive last time out for this offense Charles if you remember they started basically in the shadows of their own End Zone marched it down the field and a lot of that was through the passing game and partner as a former defensive back I'm having almost a physical reaction watching what's happening right now but let's give credit words too because they've done an excellent job moving the ball through the air secondary getting picked apart pass by pass obviously they need to make some adjustments there on the back end yeah because offensively we know that they're not going to be shot about throwing that football they go over the middle and it's complete to start the drive he'll be dropped after a gain of about six across the 30 to the 31 that's a staple of this offense drag route to the tight end yeah he was unable to use his size to break off much more yardage after the catch but still an effective gain nonetheless they'll come up now second and four from the 31 Herbert will give this one to Eckler and he'll be brought down right away down the 37 6 yds the pickup and that's a first down and Brandon you know that expression he just does what he does it sounds trait doesn't it but in this case is perfectly apt this one of the better runners in the NFL and all he does is just find Avenues find ways to pick up key first downs and big runs and now a throw on first down there but it's incomplete I think he's got to be careful not to force anything into coverage right there there w Really any throwing Lanes but the best part for him he's got second and third down to fall back on here's second and [Music] 10 Herbert now and his throw is going to be incomplete had an open man that time we end up putting a little too much heat on it don't you think partner absolutely just needed a touch more air under it instead he fired an absolute bullet so back-to- back incompletions and that has him staring at a third and [Music] 10 off the play fake to Eckler it's Herbert and this pass broken up excellent coverage there on third down as that was not an easy one to hold on to now that's a good bounce back after giv up a touchdown on the opening drive just one first down permitted and then out obviously no loss of confidence with that defense and now they get to turn it back to their offense on is the punter Scott here as he gets this one away fielded at the 20 call it an even 40 yd punt seven though on the return and the Cowboys will take over the football with a first and 10 second Drive Forth coming here for the Dallas Cowboys their Drive last time it's stalled out they were forced to take the short field goal and the key phrase you nailed it forced to because you know coaches look at these short field goals as a last resort right to them that's not how drives are supposed to end you're supposed to put six on the board that's a consolation prize like going to the county fair you don't get to big stuffed animal on that one do you no you don't go top shelf that's bottom shelf material Prescott now the defense loses him it's complete a big play here for Dallas and even 50 yards boy of all the guys on the field to lose track of how do you lose track of him I think even he was surprised at all the space he had you're just hoping your quarterback sees you in that spot fortunately he did and it leads to a gigantic play so the big play gets them all the way down to the outskirts of the Red Zone here for first and 10 throwing Prescott and his throw here is incomplete timing is crucial in any route thrown but when you throw an out so many things are going through the mind of the receiver catching the ball timing it up with the quarterback are my feet going to get down inbounds on that play all those things going through his head might have caused him to drop it on second down Prescott again now he's loose down the middle of the field and he's brought down after a very nice gain a well executed 22 yd gain I think he has to be saying to himself how did that not wind up a touchdown remember you just need the tip of the ball across the plane it's not going to get there but they're going to be set up in great shape with first and goal Pard diving for the end zone and he'll get there touchdown well that was a quick drive the passing game set it up and then the running game finishes it off and how about how few plays it was to get it done but they threw it down field and then pounded it into the end zone and as a former Defender I can tell you it hurts just a little bit more when they run it into the end zone instead of throwing [Applause] it extra point right down the middle and the lead is now 10 to S just a four four play drive that time and it culminates in a Dallas [Applause] touchdown out is the kickoff unit as they run up and send this one away this fielded right at the goal line and he'll be brought down right on the chalk of the 20 La Ready's for its next possession defense got the better of them last series forcing a punt see if they make a few changes in the game plan here and try to get points out of this drive first and 10 Herbert in the Chargers now with a first and 10 at the 20 he'll hand off here to Eckler and they're going to stop him right at the line of scrimmage just no cut back Lane to be found whatsoever second and 10 looked like he was trying to bounce it outside but no success yeah sometimes you got to just figure out where you're going to go and sometimes you just have to take it to another spot and trying to get it outside the defensive Pursuit was there and just ran him down here's Herbert and this throw incomplete the defender all over him that time but it's going to lead to third down it's pretty early in the game but they've already tried to establish him not just as a runner but as a receiver as well didn't happen there but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them try again shortly they had the incomplete pass on second down now they need a big play here third and 10 Justin Herbert looking to pass and the Cowboys pressure gets there this time time for the sack chony gston drops him for a four yd loss there and that brings up fourth down and this is what you've got to do against a quarterback like him you've got to keep him in the pocket and not let him get to the perimeter because once he gets outside that's where he can really hurt you on fourth down the punt team is on as this is sent away that's taken at around the 40 it'll be a 41 yd punt give him five on the return and out will come the offense as they take over the Cowboys about set to take over on offense this drive here beginning probably with a pair of motivated groups remember the offense scored a touchdown on their last time out looking to repeat that in Charles's defense they were very frustrated after giving up six the last time on the field and frankly it's just a battle of wills in a lot of ways because you know they're both motivated they both game planned for this drive and they both have specific outcomes in mind to me it just comes down down to who can execute better and which side can step up and assert its will over the other credit him with a one yd gain there to make it second and [Applause] nine 107 our score after one right here on EA Sports start of the second quarter and it's the Cowboys in possession from the 2nd quarter the 46 here's the second down and nine going to run again here with Pard he'll be taken down at the 48 for a pickup of two yards so if you've been playing defense in this one there's a little bit of the good and some bad because they did give up the touchdown run to him earli but shut him down otherwise outside of that you're exactly right I would say they've contained him very well the offense on third down tonight they've been good three for four thus far this is thir third and seven Prescott he finds his man Pard and he won't quite make it he needed six he got about five fourth down the key to any screen play is all in the deception and that means everyone on the offensive side of the ball but someone gave it up because that one wasn't very well concealed and the defense able to Rally to him and hold him for just a short game anger is on to punt and he gets this one away and this will be out of bounds and they spot it at the at the 15 yd line not too bad the LA offense ready for this next possession these guys definitely hoping for a better showing than their last appearance they couldn't really even move the football much beyond the Shadows of their own goal post Charles we'll see if they can get a better more sustained drive going here yeah and every team that we ever talk to says the exact same thing when you start a drive from that deep in your own territory the goal is a minimum of at least two first downs because even if you have to punt then you change the field position right you flip the field a little bit they didn't get that done this time they want to string together a nice drive and help themselves out so five yards here five on the play and it's second [Music] down now Herbert with it looking to pass now a quick throw there but it's going to be incomplete nowadays quarterbacks don't mind throwing in the coverage because of the confidence they have in their receivers to come down with the ball but sometimes you have to be careful you don't get too confident and throw an interception they come up now third and five following the incomplete pass here's Herbert pass taken in by his big tight end and he is going to have the Chargers first down as they're able to get the third down down conversion normally on third down and short yardage you're thinking to throw to your tight end it's just going to be a simple chain mover but this time they let him roam down the field and a nice Dart picks up the first down and then some so here's a first and 10 at the 38 Herbert back to the air that's caught right side by Palmer they'll wind up getting seven on the play and that's going to bring up second down now good throw good catch but I really like the route the drag and being able to run away from Defenders hard to stick with them for that long yeah better against man than zone or better against man because now you're running away from someone and you're not running into a defensive player in another Zone the offense knew it they were already starting to walk back as that one is accepted they were looking good on second down but now they're backed up five yards by the false start and it's second and eight a play fake and now Herbert to throw and he will go down a cowboy sack Micah Parsons showing off that Elite athleticism as he gets the sack they've gobbled up over 30 yards of turf so far but a sack knocks them backwards and that interrupts the momentum they were building good opportunity for the defense to escape this drive before they get to the end zone now on Third and long they'll look to throw able to find the open man that's complete and he's going to have another first down here as the tackle made at the Cowboys 45 yd line boy a nice play there as they wind up converting on Third and 15 with the kind of game he's had so far you had to know that on third down that they would be looking his way and they did for big yardage and a first down I think the defense fell asleep with the switch on that one I would have doubled him tripled him anything to keep the ball out of his hands so from Cowboy territory now here's first and 10 at the 45 yd line up the Middle with Eckler and he'll work down inside the 45 oh that's a real nice job there by the defensive front they just engaged and held their ground but how about the guy who made the play we often talk about whether they take a good first step or not many times you just don't take any step just get your feet moving get your body going and then once he made the read he was able to make the play Herbert got his man complete over the middle that's Kell and he's going to have another first down here as the tackle made at the Cowboys 30 the Chargers passing game rolling a bit here they've got another first well they certainly done a nice job spreading the ball around on this drive this time he gets it out to his back and it's another nice play and another another first down they've got the defense on their heels a little bit they're reacting instead of being aggressive and making plays throwing on first down but this one winds up to be incomplete right up to that point I was about to say he's had a pretty good half catch in the football but let's just be honest about it he should have caught that one and he knows that that was one right in his bread basket and one he normally catches second and 10 now Herbert gives this one to Kelly and he'll be brought down at the 21 just shy of the 20 in the Red Zone nine yds and that leaves him just short so it'll be third and less in a yard so from second and long now we go to Third and very manageable yeah they love that phrase don't they because as an offensive coordinator you can keep people a little bit off balance in guessing because you don't have to throw it you can come back with a strong Run game if you want to and if you're in four down territory that really opens things up for you by the Skin of Their Teeth they are able to convert on Third and inches I think they like this drive a little bit better there partner running game helping out picking up some of the slack cuz we remember the last Drive they went three and out so here's a first and 10 now down inside the 20 option play and they'll give to Eckler and he's tackled a yard short of the marker good gain of nine on first down even though they gave up more than they wanted to on that play it actually illustrates how well theyve bottled him up throughout the game because that was his longest run of this contest just need a yard here second and one back to throw here Herbert and he's got it and the Chargers are going to be he's set up with a first and goal and a pass play that moves him all the way down to the Run well this is a well orchestrated Drive they've put together you think back to how far they were backed up to start things out but they've gone on a March since then and now after that completion there they've got a first and [Applause] goal Eckler diving for the end zone and he is in touchdown so the toss play effective even down here near the goal line yeah and you're hoping the defense can miss too many men to stop the run in the middle of the field and that your blockers can gain it a little bit of an advantage and when they do foot race to the pylon and this time he had the speed to win that race extra point try now from [Applause] Dicker and that makes it 1410 that one was an EXT extended Drive 14 plays all told and it's Austin Eckler who finishes things off with a touchdown [Applause] run now after the Dicker field goal he's back out ready to send it [Applause] away and he'll take it up past the 25 to the 26 yd line the offense for the Cowboys now working their way back onto the field and Charles a very uninspired effort the last time we saw them out there it was a quick three and out and they punted the football yeah and you never want to get stopped so soundly during a series but what would be even worse now now is letting it happen again right here they've got to get going so Prescott of the Cowboys now with a first and 10 at their own 26 they'll run with Pard to begin the drive they find some open field here and he'll be taken down but not before they work it across Midfield that one 28 yds on the ground now that's a big time run lightning in a bottle forget it he exploded out of the bottle for that type of a pickup so from charger territory now here's a first and 10 at the 46 now Prescott throwing the out route incomplete that's Ferguson and he'll go out of bounds after taking it a little further down inside the 40 so eight yds on the completion there and they'll be left with second and a couple [Applause] Pard he'll take it up the gun and he is going to be stopped cold behind the line of scrimmage he'll lose a yard on the play so now they need three yards on third down we all have habits we can be somewhat predictable and you know me pretty well on second down and short what I like to see play action yeah without a doubt that was a great spot to call it instead didn't go their way did it now defense sold out for the Run worked out well and he's able to get it to the 33 good enough for a first down give him the third down conversion five yds on the play and how about that on third down so many different directions an offense can go throw it out wide to the receivers get it to their Speedy running back they changed up everything and handed it to the fullback and he surprised them all and picked up a first down now Flags fly in and one of the Cowboys looked like he got going a little early that flag accepted and it backs the offense up a little [Applause] bit a f start backs him up five first and [Applause] 15 Pard going to try the right side and there is nowhere for him to cut back as he's taken down in the back field that's going to go as a loss of one on first down I like the strategy extra tight ends extra beef they want to run the football but that means they probably want to run it inside if you get strung out on the perimeter you're in Peril yeah we saw the result negative yardage Prescott now on second down oh he dropped it they were looking for him in the middle third he couldn't catch it now third down well partner guaranteed they approach this play with the idea of making up ground to make third down manageable unfortunately with that incompletion right back where they started on the last snap now they need a big third down play in order to pick up the yardage needed third and long for Prescott he'll fire this deep for Gallop that's going to be knocked away and incomplete the LA defense up the snuff and coverage there pushes this to Fourth Down Zone coverage there and they were playing deep that makes it obviously a little bit harder to run by guys and that time it was not much of a window to get the ball in there and it winds up incomplete on to punt now anger as he boots this one away and a bit of a mistake there this is well into the end zone for a Touchback Austin Eckler in the charger offense reclaimed Center Stage it's a second quarter his team has the lead but I think he's hoping for a little bit more production out of himself we often talk about preaching patience to a runner when things are a little bumpy in the early going but we have to do the same thing with the offensive line they can't wait to halftime to make the adjustments they have to do it from series to Series so those Surface tablets come into play check out what the defense is doing and see if they can find a better way to run it so they search for that patience here now now meanwhile a pass that should have been intercepted but it winds up falling incomplete yes sir how about an out of boy there on first down got his hand in and knocked it away after the incompletion here's second and 10 from the [Applause] 20 Herbert off of playaction throwing quickly there but it's incomplete well they approach this drive with a lot of confidence after their last one ended up as a touchdown but incompletions on their first two throws has them huddling up and try to figure out a big play here on third down to get their momentum going again the Chargers on third down they've converted three out of five thus far this is third and 10 now it's Herbert and that will be incomplete as well that could be the stop this defense needed to get them back on track they've been pretty well dissected by the offense here in the first half after that possession now they know that they can compete with this offense on fourth down JK Scott ready to putt it away he's been a busy man here in this first half as he gets it away so a change of possession here on the punt and they will take over first and 10 and out now come the Cowboys as we eat closer and closer to intermission Charles remember last time out they punted they would love to get points here especially if this is going to be their final possession of the first half yeah and this is what close games feel like because the pressure is on both sides but sometimes the pressure is a little bit higher on the team with the slight Edge because they're trying to hold on to that trying to increase it let's see how this one continues they've got good starting field position as they come up here first and 10 at their 35 yd line and forget about finding a lane he barely had time to look up before he was planted in the back field give all that credit defensively to khil Mack a great stop in the back field yeah another negative play in an early down situation this one to start the drive you put a lot of pressure on your quarterback to bail you out when you're in second and long yardage Prescott now they'll drop this underneath to Pard and he'll get it up to the 33 yd line offensively that's the mismatch that you want you want to force a linebacker to try and cover your back out of the back field out in some open space the linebackers nowadays they run like backs and they take a lot of pride in covering what a nice play he made there in the open field on third down it's Prescott throw complete right side to Cooks and he'll lose yardage brought down at the 32 they'll wind up losing a yard on the play and that'll bring up fourth down two minutes remaining in this first half of football on fourth down here's Brian anger now to kick this one [Applause] away and a fair catch signal for and taken just outside the 20 yd line so possession goes over here on the punt and it'll be Charger football here as they take [Applause] over on First and 10 Herbert little short pass this is ett nice Rhythm throw there on first down he located his tight end made it a nice easy pitch and catch hoping he can break a tackle or two wasn't able to do that there but still good [Applause] yardage from the 31 Here Comes come second and a [Applause] yard back to throw Herbert that's completed right side to Palmer and they get him down but not before he takes it across the 40 yd line they call his number again it's his sixth catch and a first down so in the second quarter he's already up over a 100 yds receiving now and isn't 100 the magic number for a really good game for a receiver so he's got a chance to really shatter that that and have a profound effect on this game on first down it's Herbert little short pass this is ett and they'll get him down after a pick up of Eight Second and two the Chargers going to signal for the first of their timeouts as the stoppage will come with a little under a minute to go in this first half two yds to go second down Herbert now that's complete to C seven catches for him now in this last one a first down and a good quarterback facing Zone coverage if he has just a little bit of time to survey the scene that's what's going to happen no doubt about it if there's no pressure he's going to continue to pick them apart because he'll have all that time to find someone open downfield you can only cover for so long so maybe they want to go to a Zone Blitz scheme get a little bit more pressure remember when Carolina did that against Denver they lost the game ultimately they dropped the defensive end out and he ended up with an interception in that game in Super Bowl 50 maybe some sort of scheme like that to try and get more pressure at the passer second and nine [Music] again he'll drop to throw complete to Johnston here and he's going to have another first down touchdown now at 171 so a big play before the end of the half to get him into this spot and they cash in with three how about the onew to the solar plexus on that one the big play the field goal not halftime lead okay Coach thanks as always this one still anyone's game as we welcome you back for quarter number three [Applause] 3rd quarter one touchdown is the difference 1710 our score and we are back underway on EA Sports taken at the goal line and running with power here and not much happening on the return as he'll get this to about the 23 out come the Cowboys now as they'll go on offense first here in this third quarter this offense Charles had a strong first half throwing the football at least in terms of yardage but that hasn't translated so far in the scoreboard as they begin the third quarter here trailing and looking for a little momentum yeah you're right about that because is you know let's face it in the first half most of their focus was in the passing game and to their credit resulted in a healthy amount of yardage so I would think that a half time they're going to anticipate that defense loosening up a little bit to try and cover the passing lanes they've got to get the running game going and there should be some gaps to run through now that's a really nice tough run inside and they gained five yards on it and be frank about it most offenses don't expect to get five yards on a play call like that so when they do they go back to their huddle with a little pep their steps they're starting to think that they're starting to dominate the line of scrimmage a throw over the middle taken in and brought down but not before reaching the 45 yd line his fifth catch tonight and it's good for a first down and that's a more than acceptable read right there because it's Zone coverage so timing is everything this time he waits for his man to come open puts it right on him and they pick up a first down [Applause] now a shotgun hand off to par stays on his feet and he's going to get across Midfield and into charger territory give him nine on the carry that time and they're set up with a second and one H had a ton of success here so far but you get the feeling that he might be on the verge of popping one yeah even on that one there was a little bit of a hole it closed there quickly at the [Applause] end a second down throw for Prescott open man right side it's lamb and lamb going to have a Cowboys first down as he'll take this down inside the 45 only three there on the pickup but that's enough to move the [Applause] chains they'll run left with Pard and the stop here will come at the 38 yd line it was Sebastian Joseph who got him down defensively and that's exactly what you want on a first down run pick up five yards bring up second and five the defensive line though they've got to figure out a way to out leverage the guys up front because the offensive line is winning at the point of [Applause] attack they go back to Pard on second down call it the gain of a yard and it's going to bring up third and five you know that old expression it's not my night it hasn't been his so far I don't know if the legs are a little bit heavy sometimes having to hang out all day and play doesn't exactly play to your advantage but it's been a tough go for him every time he looks up somebody's there defensively that was the same case on that play Prescott work in the middle of the field and he's got him man complete and he's brought to the ground with another first down at the Chargers 27 yd line 11 yds there as they connect on the quick slant it's taking a while for this offense to get going a little creaky at the start but they're oiled up now a nice throw there and they're really putting together a good [Applause] drive on First and 10 Prescott he finds his man complete it's Ferguson and he gets it inside the 10 to the nine another big hitter there this one good for 18 just picking up yardage in bunches here these last few plays they have moved right down the field and just like that they can to be set up with a first and goal on first and goal they'll try the option left and he is into the end zone for a cowboy touchdown Dak Prescott doing it himself from 9 yds out and the Cowboys are an extra point away from Drawing level might have to say that for him that was an all-encompassing drive because it was his arm that got his team down to that point but his legs that finished the deal give him credit for making it happen point after try forth coming and he gets it to go and we're all even 17 a piece a good drive that time as they go nine plays in all and it was all capped off by Dak Prescott keeping it and taking it in on the touchdown [Applause] run so we're right back where we started all even as the kicks away here comes a return from a few steps into the end zone and he'll be brought down shy of the 20 so the decision to bring it out of the end zone not a good one now a look at the Chargers offense they get ready for their first possession of the second half their halftime lead now evaporated we're back to level following that touchdown a moment ago and that shouldn't change the mindset a whole lot from an offensive perspective because they already knew this was going to be a hardfought game now they just need to go out execute their game plan and keep moving Herbert going to lead up the Chargers here first and 10 at their own 18 they'll try and start this drive in the air and his throw is incomplete and those two just have been in sync thus far they've done a nice job against him but still with his talent you would expect them to have more completions to him in this game so now second and 10 after the incompletion on first down here's Herbert and that falls to the ground incomplete a nice job of bodying him up defensively and now it brings up third down normally you think the tight end's going to be able to catch the football and handle that contact but in this case maybe a little too much Target to hit that one was timed well incomplete going to throw on third down with Herbert buying time to his left and this defense rallies and they stop him short of the first down right near the 24 pretty solid gain to seven yards that time as he scrambled but now they face a fourth down that looked great when he first took off because in my mind there was room to run and he had the marker in his sight but I certainly didn't expect him to close so quickly and neither did he they got to him just in time and now that forced him to make a decision with this fourth down call here's JK Scott now as he's on to punt for the fourth time tonight and the fair catch is made at about the 27 yd line and now Dallas gets set to take the field and they'll just simply be looking to build off the confidence of the last timeout where they scored a touchdown and confidence is powerful isn't it when You' scored once you feel like you can go back out there and get it done again doesn't matter what the defense throws at them they feel like they're in a groove right now and they want to get out there and show it yeah hoping to stay in that Groove here this go around first down Prescott Michael gallop and down right around the 37 it's a gain of 35 well my dad would say sometimes I'm just scratching my head here trying to figure out what was going on there defensively how did you lose him in the middle of the field if you're going to lose a receiver make sure it's someone on the short side of things not deep down field that can hurt your defense so how about that for a chain mover they're all the way down inside the 40 now for first and 10 now here's a whistle as Flags come in and we'll check out the call so they accept the penalty of course and push the offense backwards a bit the full start backs him up five first and [Applause] 15 here's Prescott that's caught once again by gallop and they're able to get this one past the 30 down to the 25 another first down as he went right back to the same well this time for 17 yds well if you like the matchup and that connection Works to start the drive no reason to go away from it let that defense prove that they can stop you and here it's two throws and two first downs pass incomplete but the flag in the back field and this might be a roughing [Applause] callou baby we got to do our job we got to do our job well Charles sometimes we talk about the lengths officials sometimes go to to protect star quarterbacks but that one that was tough to argue against yeah and I'm sure that everyone's going to say hey we're going to administer the penalty the same way for all quarterbacks but when it's a star back there even more so are they going to be diligent about throwing the flag Prescott and this is caught for the moment it's a touchdown but multiple Flags down so let's sort this out [Applause] foul so obviously they will decline the penalty there and the result is six [Music] points now the extra [Applause] point and they will take a seven-point lead now so they only needed three plays on that drive and it's capped off with a Cowboys touchdown the kickoff unit is out on the field and they will send this one [Applause] away a lane opens here he's pass the 30 and all in all a pretty solid return nearly got it to the 35 they'll Mark him down officially at the 34 here's the Los Angeles offense as they get set to take possession see if they can put this Drive In The End Zone Charles because it it's been a little bit of a rough go at times they've had to punt the football a ton in this ball game because of stalled out drives so are you saying that you're kind of tired of seeing the punter run out there and do his thing during this game is that what you're trying to say you well I mean I mean I'm okay with it I have a feeling that this offense they don't want to see the punter again and frankly the punter doesn't want to run out there anymore himself he would love to see his offense put together a drive and give his leg a rest saw the linebacker Deone Clark coming through with a stop he continues to struggle to find a crease to break off a big one and might need to just put that aside and just try and RAM his way forward and get what he can officially nothing on that last run they'll try again second and 10 Justin Herbert looking to pass his throw incomplete as a defensive back you have some weapons at your disposal that we don't often talk about and you can read the receiver's eyes you can read his hands and you know that the arrival of the ball is imminent and that allows you to make a play on it and often times knock it away these guys have punted four times already and they're staring at a fifth barring a conversion here on third down Herbert pass taken in by his big tight end and they'll get this well past Midfield before being stopped just before the 35 a first down and then some give him 29 yds good job there of getting his tight end invol because he lines up on the right side of the formation just works his way across the field I really like how they were in sync on that one he spotted the open Gap in the zone and his quarterback found him and they get a first down so from Cowboy territory now here's first and 10 at the [Applause] 36 this is a counter play Eckler nothing doing barely able to muster a yard to hit the 35 I have to think a major focus of the halftime Ms had to be figuring out how to create space for the running game to get operating well what you pointed out to me at half seems accurate that line has struggled to sustain blocks yeah I would agree with that totally they've got to focus on staying on their their double teams at the first level make sure that Block's secured before they slide off and try and Chip someone at the second level Eckler going to get it again on second down and a good looking run there as he'll take this inside the 20 and down to the 18 yd line 41 yds rushing for him now on what was his 10th carry of the ball game sometimes it's hard to believe but there are times this game is about patience isn't it has had the game he expected but that run there that may get him going I was just going to say maybe that gives him a little juice cuz you're right he struggled especially in that first half yeah and I know the great ones always think to themselves just hang in there I'm just one big carry away from busting this open that's a good start for him no gain on the play there second down defense able to get there swarm to the football zilch zero notada there for the offense Charles yeah it really was an example of good team defense wasn't everyone handled their responsibilities and they held them to No Gain Justin Herbert looking to throw on second down working the middle here that's complete to Everett the tight end they get six that'll leave them with third and four the completion was given up but that's why you play zone defense so you can have people around the ball when it's caught and you don't give up much run after the catch this will be the eighth play of the drive here third and four back to throw here Herbert able to find the open man that's complete and the charger are going to have first and goal as they try to finish off this drive with six points and in a lot of ways that catch is expected Red Zone presence and that one was realized there you've got to find your tight end in that situation running on first down Eckler trying to bounce it outside but he's only able to get it back to the line of scrimmage they'll say no gain on the play and it'll be second and goal and as a defensive end getting off the ball quickly swarming to the football making a tackle that's what we saw right there yeah and that's what their job is and really a lot of the time they have to throttle back a little bit in the Run game because you know those defensive ends they're like in a sprinter stance they're just headed straight for the quarterback that was good recognition on that play to hold him to no gain and that flag accepted second down things made a a little more difficult after the false start as they try again on second and goal once more here's Eckler and he'll fight his way down inside the 10 to the N yd line two runs in a row but only two yds to show for it partner I know we're in a goal to go situation but my goodness think about running the ball here not even a thought is it defensively they're in a prime spot and I think the defensive guys are probably expressing themselves to them as well I wouldn't run here guys you might want to try throwing it now Herbert third and [Applause] goal and this is caught he's got it touchdown La Josh Palmer his second touchdown of the night and the Chargers are an extra point away now from tying this ball game I know Paul River talked about by land or by sea right you know one by land two by se he didn't mention air because right now we're seeing a big time performance aren't we that's two touchdowns so far in this game where' you pull that one from and you know every now and then I actually listened in history class and you're you're just a scholar all the way around you're reading all the time I like that you fit that into the broadcast you know I just grab a nugget when I can extra point Up and Good by Dicker and that will tie us at [Applause] 24 [Applause] nothing separating these two sides 24 all our score as he sends this one away from a couple yards deep he'll bring it out of the end zone and he's able to get this across the 20 but not by much as he's marked out officially at the 21 now the Cowboys offense heads back onto the field and their lead has evaporated in this third quarter it's tied once more as they begin with a first and [Applause] 10 here's Prescott no one there to help out downfield but no problem scrambling for 22 and a first well that turned out better than most of the passes he could have thrown on that snap the coverage downfield was excellent but the containment close to home left him a back door escape and they paid dearly for not locking up one play has him up past the 40 already another first and 10 they run Straight Ahead here with Pard and he's going to take this ahead for right around three yds but no more than that second down yeah I don't know if it's exactly a win-win but if you're on offense you'll take that kind of a run all right it was kind of stacked up found a little bit of yardage and frankly they're pretty close to staying on schedule on offense The Playbook is still open for the coordinator playaction now Prescott this is caught it's cooks and he's brought to the ground with another first down at the Chargers 29 yd line a really nice gain of 25 yards and this has been a nice answer to the touchdown drive against them a few minutes ago because they've come out and reestablish the tempo a nice throw there and they're putting together a very strong drive as a [Applause] response and they're not going to get to the line to run another play so we will switch ends as the third quarter has come to a close you're watching the NFL on EA Sports back now at Sofi stadium in Englewood all even as we get ready to 4th quarter start the fourth throwing on first down but this one winds up to be incomplete and their backs up against the wall a little bit and they come through by forcing an incompletion now they've got to continue to ratchet up the intensity a couple more times and get off the field before giving up any more yardage an incomplete pass on first down that leads to a second and 10 Dak going to keep it on the draw it's going to be a gain of six on the keeper but it leads to a third [Applause] down in search of four yds here to pick up the first down now Flags fly in and one of the Cowboys looked like he got going a little [Applause] early was a third and somewhat manageable now not so manageable exactly because you had a play call on that you felt like hey this could go quick and it doesn't take much to get it done now got to start think about a little bit of a deeper route type of a call especially if you want to throw [Applause] it on third down it's Prescott left side to lamb and they're going to stop him short of the first down as he's tackled at about the 21 so the completion good for seven there and that's going to bring up a fourth down so much about offense is what we call Hidden yardage you know you you throw the ball to someone they catch it and then they could make a big play you know they create a play run after catch they did a really nice job there limiting that and keeping him from a first down they stopped him in his tracks so the drive here ends with a field goal it does give him the lead but this one's still certainly a long ways from over it definitely puts a lot of pressure on your defense to hold the lead right they're happy to have it and happy to be out there trying to do so but I know as a former player in the back of their mind they're thinking why don't you score the touchdown and seal this thing [Applause] the kick team out there for the Cowboys as they run up to send this one away and he brings this out past the 20 to the 24 the offense for Los Angeles returns to the field and now they find themselves trailing following the field goal still a good amount of time in this fourth quarter but this drive very well could determine the outcome of this ball game Herbert and the Chargers now with a first and 10 at their own 24 they'll come out throwing here to start the drive and his throw is going to be in incomplete we know it's not an easy job to go out and catch passes when people are trying to tackle you and knock the ball away but the bottom line is that's a pass he's got to have and a pass he should have caught from the 24 they'll go again on second and 10 Eckler now between the tackles and he'll be stopped up at the 26 after a gain of only a couple well that's a good start to this drive on the defensive side of the ball Force the incompletion on first down then you're able to shut down the running play on second yeah I wouldn't be surprised now a little bit of pressure going at the quarterback in an expected passing situation the Chargers on third down they're hitting at 60% 6 out of 10 thus far this is third and eight here's Herbert he's got his running back out of the back field and he'll be taken down but not before they work it across Midfield 2 yd that time and here we are in the fourth quarter partner and watching them drive for what would be a go-ahead touchdown and you and I both know this is where you need a quarterback who can keep his cool back there not just for himself but to keep the rest of the team relaxed too so from Cowboy territory now here's first and 10 at the 49 yd line now it's Herbert a little short pass this is Everett two y Ys on the pickup there and it'll be second down not a big window to throw coverage wasn't too bad there yeah they had him under wrapped pretty well but somehow able to muscle his way open and catch the ball ball on the 47 yd line here's a second and [Music] eight now a give running left is Eckler oh able to avoid him and the stop here will come at the 38 yd line 54 yds on the ground for him now as he's done that on 15 carries yeah once more strong running excellent blocking at the point of attack they've got a nice little Drive Brewing right here so here's a first and 10 at the 38 Herbert now and the Cowboys pressure gets there this time for the sack Chanty gston able to drop him that time for his second sack of the evening and we all know how talented this guy is who's calling the signals for him but even the best in the game they can struggle against a good cohesive Zone coverage can't find a gap in the secondary quick enough and he ends up taking a [Applause] sack after the sack it's second and 19 and the road gets a bit tougher from here now Herbert with it looking to pass for Keenan Allen that's complete and he's got this down a yard or two shy of the 40 before he's out of [Applause] bounds so they'll try to move the ball closer here on third down a field goal from this spot would be just inside of 60 yds 59 to be exact looking to throw Herbert [Applause] got a man it's caught inside the 10 and finally down he goes as they work it inside the 10 to the seven they're able to convert on third down and that sets up a first and goal well this game has certainly had no shortage of offense both teams have been revved up from the start and here's yet another big play boy both defense have just got to be dragging out there because they've been run ragged throughout now a chance chance to make that big play really hurt it's first and goal just outside the five they go back to the ground now with Eckler and the second wave of tacklers is going to get him as they stop him behind the line a loss of a full three yards and now it's second down sometimes you just sit back and Marvel at what he can do defensively speed strength quickness he's the whole package and that package just wrapped up the runner for a loss here's Herbert now on second down and this will be caught in the end zone for a Chargers touchdown a nyd touchdown BR and the Chargers have moved out in front here in the fourth quarter this has definitely been a back and forth Affair and now they have the lead here in the fourth quarter yeah and they gave up the field goal on that last drive as we remember but it felt like their offense told them don't worry about it we've got your backs we'll come back with a touchdown of our own and they did extra point Up and Good by Dicker and that will make this a four-point [Applause] game [Applause] [Applause] so after the touchdown here's Dicker out to kick this one off and good coverage there on special teams as they'll get him down shy of the 20 and time to get another look at this cowboys offense and they will be looking to answer the touchdown their defense just surrendered still a good chunk of time remaining here in the fourth quarter and a chance to regain the lead in a tight [Applause] one so Prescott of the Cowboys now with a first and 10 at their own 19 yd line he'll drop to throw got his man there leete to gallop so give him five yds there on the pitch and catch and it'll be second [Applause] down they'll bring a receiver in motion right now he's going to get it on the Jet Sweep oh and this one may need to go back to the drawing board he's going to be swallowed up right away it'll go down as a 2yd loss and it brings up a third down that's the danger Charles of running plays like this for your wide receiver they can hit big or they can be Duds yeah you're exactly right about that because if they're forced to try and go around Defenders behind the line of scrimmage sometimes you can give yardage in order to gain it but in this case they gave yardage and didn't get it back now a third down throw but it misses the target incomplete how about some Applause for the defense there force him to throw that one into coverage and just like that they're staring at a fourth down well done here's Brian anger now as he's on to punt for Dallas fair catch called for and taken right near the 30 yd line and now out on the field Here Comes Los Angeles their defense got the Stop Force the punt and now really start to monitor the clock as they nurse this slim lead line of scrimmage the 31 now on First and 10 they'll start on the ground with Kelly and he'll be tackled just past the 35 at the 36 credit The Tackle there to Jordan l I'm guessing you'd say this is kind of the key here grind out some yardage work on that clock see if you can continue to tick it down definitely you want to bleed things out at this point right continue to possess the football gain some yardage and put the onus on the defense do they have to use timeouts what are they going to do to stop you and look at this they get the turnover they needed it's intercepted picked off by Stefan Gilmore and they take possession two yds away from Midfield at the 48 yd Y Line well this D particularly the secondary has been picked apart at points here tonight they finally though get to the quarterback get a pick and we know this about him he loves night games loves the spotlight loves being the center of attention I will bet you that he ran off the field almost chuckling to himself they finally got one they finally got [Applause] me [Applause] following the interception here's Prescott throw complete right side to Cooks and he is tackled inside the 40 not quite to the 35 it's a gain of 12 and the Cowboys pick up the first and with that last play he's now up over that 300 yd Mark and in today's NFL it almost feels routine and I hate that when you talk about a 300 yard passing game to me 300 yard still signifies excellence and he's achieved that in his performance and that one opened up for him well as he'll take this down to the 26 yd line 58 yds for him on the ground now on 18 carries we definitely see some open running lanes and he's taking advantage of it right now but that shouldn't be a surprise defense has the lead they're playing for the pass first backto back good play plays have them on the move on first down out of the gun here's Prescott on the out route it's Lamb with a grab and they do get him down but not before he's able to slip it inside the five yd line a good pick up there of 22 well this is a defense that's definitely on their heels now because they gave up the running play for good yardage One play ago now the pass here sets this offense up first and go goal they're going to have to dig in strong now because they've been in Retreat so far in this drive this offense on the March only way to get the lead here of course with a touchdown and that's what they're gunning for on first and goal looking to throw Prescott toward the end zone but that's going to wind up incomplete down this close to the goal line first down surprised that wasn't a run I am and you know I'm old school I want to run the ball on first down in this situation because second down that gives me an option run in play action and maybe throwing it line of scrimmage again the four yd line second and goal now a give here to Pard and he gets halfway there from the four to the two on a gain of two well the spotlight hit him once already tonight as he got into the end zone he was trying to make it a double Spotlight wasn't he but credit the defense bottling him up not letting him get in for the second score there for the lead here's third and goal [Applause] Prescott to throw it and this is caught for a cowboy touchdown Brandon Cooks with his second touchdown of the night and the Cowboys are once again back in front a late turnover so often the difference in a ball game and here the turnover leads to the go-ahead touchdown so repeat after me partner you have to take care of the football in order to protect a lead you must take care of the football ball security how many times do they have to say it they've been preaching it since day one of camp and it came back to bite them right there point after right down the middle and that gives him a three-point [Applause] lead [Applause] the kickoff team on the field now as they will send this one away and able to get this across the 20 but not much further as he's dropped at the 23 yd line the LA defense ready for this next possession we certainly have a good one on our hands they're trailing after that last touchdown but now a chance for this offense to try to snag that lead right back here in the fourth quarter Herbert going to lead up the Chargers here first and 10 at their own 23 they started on the ground with Eckler and he'll get this just across the 25 yd line give credit to the defense for stringing that play out and they gave up no cut back angle you know he was trying to Dart through no place for him to go a nice job there only giving up a three yd gain ball it to 26 second and seven Justin Herbert looking to pass going deep here for Allen and this will be caught at the 30 touchdown La Kenan Allen 74 yards and the Chargers use the defensive breakdown to take the lead away here in the fourth might be seeing that one on the Highlight shows tonight the Home Run ball here in the fourth quarter to take the lead there's nothing like being aggressive preaching that to your team and then following through all the way through go ahead and throw one more up there why not been a great game and we are not done yet Dicker now to attack on the extra point and that will make this a four-point game the long touchdown pass gets him six on a very very tidy two-play drive that [Applause] time [Applause] here's Dicker now as he'll send this one away from a yard or two deep here comes a return and he'll be brought down shy of the 20 so the decision to bring it out of the end zone not a good one Dallas offense set for this next drive and the points they have come fast and furious in this quarter you really don't want to be on the defensive side of the ball right now do you because you're either thinking my replacement may get an opportunity your head better be on a swivel totally or maybe I just need to get out of the game for a while because I just can't slow these guys down they've got to figure out a way to disrupt these offenses and typically one guy makes a big play and that can help change SP they'll be looking for disruption on both sides right now and now a throw on first down there but it's incomplete in the early days of the NFL you could easily blame these drops on maybe some uneven or uncertain Lighting in a stadium not anymore the lights are pretty good yeah they're great here at night but his second drop indeed not a good look a second down throw for Prescott throw right side taken in by Gallum they'll wind up losing three here on the play and that'll make it third and 13 not an easy spot here they'll be in search of 13 yds to try to pick up the first now on Third and long they'll look to throw here's a screen now for Pard and able to get it here to about the 16 yd line they'll get only a yard out of that and it'll bring up fourth down good reactions there defensively that screen was a little slow and developing and they shut that one down with little gain here's close game offense has played well but right now they've got to keep their foot on the gaps and that carries with it an extra bit of pressure doesn't it as much fun as they're having right now they're locked in really clicking on all cylinders they also know that they ever miss a chance to put points on the board they've actually put their team in Jeopardy and that's not how you want to play the game it's supposed to be complimentary football offense defense but today it's all offense for them yeah they've been playing with a sense of urgency it's probably going to need to continue and they'll get it up just short of the 45 at the 44 fourth quarter down to the final two minutes and we've got a onore game so it's Charger football as we welcome you back from the two-minute warning they've got a first and 10 as they look to try and finish this one off Five Points of contact necessary at this stage as they'll run on first down and now we'll see a timeout used on defense as they stop it right out of the break with 156 seven to go in the ball game this in all probability another run here on second and [Music] eight Herbert will give this one to Eckler breaks the tackle now timeout as they'll talk things over prior to this upcoming second down [Applause] play up the Middle with Eckler and he will have a charger first down and that should be the one that gets him to the Finish Line I like a guy who understands the situation also like a guy who you look at him and you say that looks like a guy who knows the coach is going to say guess what you drop this one you'll be carrying around the training facility for an entire week maybe flashback to high school or college carrying it around campus right the old Gauntlet drill right anyone get the ball out while he's while
