Tens of thousands of visitors, daily protests and global media attention all here. It's been a lot, a lot. It's been a big week. It has. The DNC was a huge challenge for city leaders and police. NBC 5's Charlie Wojciechowski spoke with Mayor Brandon Johnson and Police Superintendent Larry Snelling about the lasting impact as crews start to dismantle the fencing around the United Cente. City officials are hugging and handshaking, taking credit for what by most accounts, has been a successful Democratic national Convention. A Chicago DNC known more for its violence than for its nominee, the 2024 convention will go down as the example of constitutional policing. According to CPD, there were a total of 74 protest related arrests and only 8 or 9 complaints about officers over the four day period, 74 arrests, no major injuries, no major injuries to the officers just shows what a great job these officers did and how the training applied to that. Also helping the number of protesters the city was preparing for upwards of 25,000 on any given day. No more than 4000 ever materialized, and during the convention, CPD says citywide crime was down in every major category when compared to the same period one year ago. And when it comes to the delegates, the visitors and the world stage that the DNC gave to Chicago, the mayor says he thinks it left a positive impression as far as the world is concerned. Yeah. Look, I think it's pretty clear people fell back in love with Chicago, a city leaving the ghosts of 1968 behind and looking forward to the future. So again, please, can we stop
