I'M BRIAN COLLERAN. WE BEGIN THIS HOUR WITH SOME BREAKING NEWS. THE VERMONT DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THE AGENCY OF AGRICULTURE ARE ISSUING NEW GUIDANCE TONIGHT ABOUT THE SPREAD OF THE MOSQUITO BORNE TRIPLE E VIRUS. THEIR ADVICE FOR HIGH RISK AREAS NEAR WATER IS TO STAY INSIDE THOSE HIGH RISK AREAS INCLUDE THE TOWNS OF ALBURG, BURLINGTON, COLCHESTER AND SWANTON. THESE ARE ALL TOWNS ALONG THE WATER MILTON, VERGENNES, SUDBURY, WHITING ARE AT A MODERATE RISK RIGHT NOW, AND THEY'RE RECOMMENDING PEOPLE THERE AVOID TIME OUTSIDE BETWEEN 6 A.M. AND 6 P.M. UNTIL THE FIRST HARD FROST, WHEN THE MOSQUITOES WILL BE KILLED OFF. TRIPLE E IS A RARE BUT SERIOUS VIRUS THAT CAN BE SPREAD TO PEOPLE THROUGH THE BITE OF AN INFECTED MOSQUITO. PEOPLE WHO GET TRIPLE E COULD END UP WITH A FEVER, HEADACHE, VOMITING, BEHAVIORAL CHANGEGES, ACCORDING TO THE CDC, AN ESTIMATED 30% OF THOSE INFECTED WILL DIE. SURVIVORS ARE OFTEN PERMANENTLY DISABLED. THERE IS NO HUMAN VACCINE FOR IT. TODAY'S WARNING COMES AFTER A NEW HAMPSHIRE MAN DIED AFTER CONTRACTING THE VIRUS. THAT DEATH IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WAS ALSO THE FIRST CONFIRMED HUMAN CASE OF TRIPLE E IN THE STATE. IN MORE THAN A DECADE. HERE IN VERMONT, WE KNOW THAT MULTIPLE MOSQUITO SAMPLES HAVE TESTED POSITIVE AND THAT A PERSON IN CHITTENDEN COUNTY HAS BEEN INFECTED. TODAY, VERMONT GOVERNOR PHIL SCOTT SAID VERMONTERS NEED TO BE ON ALERT. SO STANDING WATER. OBVIOUSLY, WITH THE AMOUNT OF RAIN WE'VE HAD ELEVATED TEMPERATURES IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO A IT'S CONDUCIVE TO A GOOD CLIMATE FOR THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS, BUT NOT GREAT FOR THE REST OF US.
