what a game and it turns out the 49ers are still really good they're stacked welcome to NFL live Dan Orosi Andrew Hawkins Dan Graziano with us throughout and let's get right to the way week one finished on Monday Night Football of course Aaron Rogers as you just heard there trying to come back off football talk I love that football talk right there when I talked to Kyle Shanahan pregame about Christian mcaffry he said it was such a hard decision to make to not play him in the game because so much of their offense is centered around him but what impressed you Dan about these 49ers last night with out the key cog in their offense fair to say that Brock py over the past couple years has been a top five quarterback I still think he's underrated if you asked me what I thought was the most the most important physical asset a quarterback needs to have it is anticipation all comes out of his hands before guys are breaking in their route or getting open as consistently as anybody in the league certainly up there with players like to a Tong of aloa and it's always almost in between the middle of a face mask or the middle of the numbers the receiver Hawk for me it's I feel like he's throwing marshmallows to guys like it's such a catchable ball and very watch these catches very rarely are guys constantly stretching out or an uncomfortable place to try to go catch the football for a guy that's performed at the level that he has I still think he's underrated I don't know when it comes to the anticipation of ball placement I don't know how many guys in the league are doing it better than Brock pie yeah no I I think you're spot on that throw that he had to auk that he dropped was the touchdown one that he dropped it it was a ridiculous throw and I think that's what's like both scary and frustrating about the 49ers because they have so much Firepower at every single position and even yeah you can clearly see all the talent now you throw Jordan Mason into that mix but they're still this is the version of them that are still figuring it out like auk is still getting you know uh acclimated after not being in Camp again you throw Mason into this thing but when you look at Debo auk and what they did in the Run game like if you watch them block they look like two guys you know typically when you're a receiver and it's like oh the blocking guys they can't get open that is not the case for San Francisco wide receivers when you watch auk when you watch Debo in the Run game it's no surprise why a guy like Jordan Mason can go in there and do what he did I'd also say this if we were trying to nitpick a point of their football team last year it was their offensive line it wasn't great the way that it looked against a very good San FR excuse me New York defensive line last night in that new Right Guard that they have it looks like it's going to be a strength for the football team well and it's worth pointing out too that you mentioned auk not being there during camp but Shanahan said they really didn't have their entire offense until this last week of practice leading into this first game so they're probably just getting started which is scary for whoever is going to face him what did you take away Dan from Aaron Rogers First full game with the Jets I'd be really encouraged I really would be after watching the game and then watching the tape three number one could Aaron still throw it I guess the you we believed he could but did he actually go do it in a game yep there was some big time throws in this football game this ball down to the sideline to Alan Lazard is absolutely ridiculous I think Lazard won on the quote unquote free play touchdown it's perfect Aaron's throwing this ball whether it's a free play or not now he missed a throw or two but I think that's the rust number two is the connection with Garrett Wilson reel yep I I mean that was a checked play at the line of scrimmage to the inside slot fade this is a checked play with that wrap in down in the Red Zone throwing him that skinny slant to make sure you protect them and then did the offensive line handle a really dominant defensive line at least pass blocking wise relatively well I think run blocking they missed some landmarks and San Francisco speed caught up to him a little bit but but I think those three big takeaways that's a lot to build on offensively to your point this is a really good defense that they were opening the season with and they have a lot of questions around them that to me it felt more like there are things that this offense needs to be acclimated to they got to find a legit number two outside of Garrett Wilson and Garrett Wilson has to get used to being a number one with a quarterback like Aaron Rogers there going to be a lot more pressure put on you to make some of these plays but like there were there were times when Aaron roders would break the pocket or he would go into scramble mode even with the clean pocket and it almost looked like the receivers and pass catchers didn't know what to do like they're not used to having that amount of time for their quarterback and say well let me go find a throwing Lane for Aaron to find me on and that's going to take you know them getting acclimated to having an offensive line that looked as good as they did last last night yeah look the the Jets feel really good about obviously Rogers I mean that's kind of an understatement but also just sort of the connection he's formed with Wilson the connection he brings with him uh from Green Bay with alen Lazard Mike Williams really not a factor in last night's game but the Jets believe moving forward he will be a factor as likely their number two wide receiver and then of course Bree Hall uh to me like the the issues that surprised me were the issues that Jets had on defense uh the The Edge rushers are a couple former first round picks that kind of need to start playing like it uh especially if they're going to maintain their leverage in the Hassan reic uh contract talks but they got pushed around on defense by a 49ers team that was more than ready for them uh in terms of the way they schemed up the Run game and the Jets are back in New Jersey today sort of licking their wounds they have a short week road trip to Tennessee an even shorter week next week uh with a Thursday night game against New England so they don't have much time to feel sorry for themselves it was interesting because Robert solot told us in the game broadcast that he wasn't concerned about the run defense at all but I wonder if that changes after what we saw last night the interior got whooped yeah yeah well this was before the game so he might change his tune afterwards how about this from the 49ers have shutting you out Dan saying that you know ball since you were the only one on get up to take the 49ers yesterday the only problem is though you're flanked by Rex Ryan who coached the Jets Damen Woody who played for the Jets and Mike Greenberg who thinks he's on the Jets so Dan what do you think about that yeah I mean the next game that I pick that I don't take San Francisco they're all going to be mother F me so it is what it is I got one right this weekend thank God I'll take it though 49ers I will take it one uh you know what it wasn't that brave of a pick they're really good all right time now for some top stories let's get news that broke about an hour before kickoff last night G what more can you tell us about Christian mcaffrey been dealing with this calf injury all through Camp only returned to practice last week and only on a Lim basis so it did go up to game time they decided they didn't want to play him and uh they have a short week they're playing Sunday off a Monday night game it would not surprise anybody if Christian mcaffrey sat out another game while they get that calf injury right they don't want it to linger into the latter part of the season Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson not at practice yesterday for Baltimore I've been told he's was a little banged up uh coming out of the Thursday night opener they don't seem concerned remember the Ravens only practiced yesterday cuz they had the Thursday night opener their first official practice with an injury report is not until tomorrow so we'll find out if there is any issue with Lamar Jackson uh Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin uh saying earlier today that they are preparing to play this week's game in Denver with Justin Fields as their starting quarterback Russell Wilson still dealing with that calf injury tomin said he does not expect Wilson to participate very much if at all in practice tomorrow so the Steelers will almost certainly roll with fields for a second straight game uh and wait for Wilson calf to heal up and then one more bit of news that broke just before we came on the air Carolina Panthers putting defensive tackle Derek Brown on injured reserve with a knee injury he has to miss at least the next four games could be a lot longer than that depending on whether they decide he needs surgery could be out for the whole year uh and obviously not what that Carolina Panthers defense needed after what happened to it in week one goodness we'll keep an eye on that and garage with us throughout the show now to a developing story body camera footage of Tyreek Hill being detained by police before Sunday's game has been released and shows officers pulling the Dolphins wide receiver out of his car and forcing him to the ground before putting him in handcuffs Hill was stopped for speeding while approaching Hard Rock stadium and received two citations Hill's attorney said all legal remedies are being considered the incident is being investigated by the Miami Dade Police Department and one of the officers has been placed on administrative Duty almost 2our footage was released from the officers involved including when the officer approached Hill's vehicle hey don't knock on my window like that knock why don't you have your seat Bel on don't knock on my window like why don't you have your seat Bel on don't knock on my window like that though like what car as a matter of fact get out of the car get out of the give break that fre window get out of the car get out get out of the car right now we're not playing this game get out get out get out get out get out damn what part of brothering hey Drew hey Drew I'm getting arrested D I'm getting arrested I'm getting arrested Drew I'm getting out bro God Dam when we tell you to do something you do it you it is good hey hey don't worry about I hung up the phone stop crying I just had surger on my KNE I just had surgery on my knee bro I just had surgery on my you in your ears when we put window chill the Dolphins released a statement after the video was released saying in part quote we are saddened by the overly aggressive and violent conduct directed towards Tyreek Hill Kus Campbell and jonu Smith by police officers before yesterday's game it is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility towards these players yet it is also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace as we are grateful this one did what if I wasn't Tyreek Hill is a question that will carry around with resounding impact we are proud to have a strong and positive relationship with the Miami Dade Police Department and other law enforcement agencies and recognize that the vast majority of officers do serve the community with the character and desire to protect all citizens the players were asked about the incident earlier today here's Tua Tunga vioa it was a little emotional for me hearing uh just tyre's voice in the in the footage um just knowing Tyreek for me a lot of the inst uh instances that I I see are just you know of people that I don't know and that's it's happening to to those people and so for it to have happened to somebody that I knew and then you know sort of hearing hearing tyre's voice throughout that he knows that he has my support in my opinion I think it could have been deescalate another way I I just you know I don't think it was done the right way you know I know Tyreek has gathered a group of us together um you know to to do something to help you know change change some things and he he's come up with a couple ideas and we we've gathered to to talk about um you know what we wanted to do obviously we're going to worry about this week but next week we'll we'll get back together and we'll talk about um how we can do something to help change what is going on we now welcome in Marcel Luis Jac who is at the Dolphins facility today and what more can you tell us about the impact this incident has had on the team well the reaction from Dolphins players is about what you would expect after watching their teammate being pulled out of his car by a police officer we heard from Braxton Barrios today he said that the hostility in the escalation is really what stood out to him about that footage while Zack sealer said he just wants to be a resource for his teammates perhaps the most powerful statement we heard today was from defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver speaking about the birth of his sons both of whom are by racial he said it was almost a relief when they were born that they were light-skinned because it meant they could avoid some of the same issues he had to deal with growing up you heard from Tua today say that Tyreek and some of the Dolphins leaders are looking to ways to turn this into a positive but for now they're focused on the bills Miami is 1- n against Buffalo in their last 10 games Tua told us today that until they beat the bills and do so consistently The Narrative that they can't isn't going anywhere thanks Marcel and we'll continue to keep an eye on this situation as it develops we're just glad you're with us on NFL live time to read and react let's start in Green Bay where head coach Matt leflour spoke about the team's backup quarterback plan if Jordan love misses time with his knee injury if Jordan's not cleared then we we'll start Malik and Sean will be the backup Malik's on the roster and that he's our number two quarterback and that's the way we're going to roll I think he's he's put a lot of time and effort into this thing and he's grinded he's learned the terminology and and is able to spit out the play calls and we got confidence in him and I think if he's given a full week of of preparation a full week of practice I got confidence that he'll go out there and perform uh at a high level Dan Green Bay traded for Willis two weeks ago how can they put him in a position to succeed if he has to play one defense got to play a lot better two getting Romeo dods in some of those solo situations is going to be really good because it clears the picture for a quarterback Jaden Reed how many different ways they can can they get a Jaden Reed touches they got to run the football downhill a little bit more in effectively like they did their tight ends are really first group I've also seen Malik Willis get better since he's coming to the NFL I think he can give them a chance to win football games over the next couple weeks let's go to Dallas where owner Jerry Jones was asked about the Cowboys need to win a Super Bowl in order to consider Dak Prescott's big new extension of success he plays the position of ultimate leadership in sports in my opinion as the quarterback you can put a huge value on measures of success that that don't reach a Super Bowl I will say this that anytime that we've ever made key players such as Troy amegan the most highest paid player in the game we won Super Bowls oh he's got to get something in there what do you think about those comments from Jerry Hawk you know what damn it I agree with Jerry for the first time in a long time he is absolutely right with great power comes great responsibility and Dak is in that position now the beautiful part about what Dak Prescott is now in his career versus previously I feel like he's done a better job of handling the pressure handling the outside noise and he just focuses on being a quarterback if he can continue that in year two of McCarthy's offense I actually think the Cowboys have a good chance to make a run at the Super Bowl could you agreeing with Jerry all right Los Angeles next for pukaa was placed on the IR yesterday with a knee injury meaning he'll miss at least four games but puka isn't the only Rams player dealing with injuries they entered Sunday's game against the Lions with Darius Williams Tyler higgy and starting tackle Rob havenstein all inactive due to injuries and their other starting tackle aleric Jackson was inactive because of a suspension then they lose NCA and three offensive linemen in the game against Detroit guards Steve Aila and Kevin Dodson tackled Joe notum they're all hurt it's a long list of players there here's head coach sha McBay on the team's mindset moving forward we're not going to sulk uh we're not going to say why is me we're going to get the next guy ready to go we're going to get some new bodies in here and then we'll be grateful when we do get those guys that are injured back but um you know the league it continues to move you're not going to see any pity for me you know in terms of I feel bad I want to support the players but there's not going to be any excuses for us not to move forward um the right way because I've gone down that road before and we're not doing that again the Rams are at Arizona on Sunday I mean I'm sitting there feeling like I'm reading off the entire roster there G with all the injuries five offensive linemen what more can you tell us about how the Rams are going to try to deal with all this yeah I mean they're going to have to patch it together for at least one more week because uh you mentioned laric Jackson has one game left on a suspension Rob havenstein one of their tackles he missed the game with an ankle injury they they have some degree of hope that he could come back this week but they don't know for sure Joe noboom uh is probably going to miss several weeks with a high ankle sprain Kevin doson um or sorry Steve Aila McVey said is probably going to go on IR Kevin Dodson has an ankle sprain but probably going to have to play through it because they're really running low on guys you see Jonah Jackson probably shift over to one of the guards they have a six round rookie they can put in at center it's going to take uh it's going to take some work and they are as as you heard Shawn mention probably going to have to add uh one or two guys at the offensive line positions just to get through this week and maybe the next few yeah and you know Arizona looked pretty good too week one Hawk how can the Rams get over all of this and and still be able to make a successful season here that's a good question I don't know back to you Laura no uh you know Cooper cup obviously had a had a big game this week but you know when you watch him and puka play together it's the balance that it creates because there's such weapons on both sides so it's going to get a lot harder for Cooper cup and they're going to need that receiver to step up who I like is Tyler Johnson because of his ability after the catch when you watch that game think they'll keep Robinson in the slot that that'll help take some of that pressure off of Cooper cup and keep this offense rolling Matthew Stafford was hit on Sunday night just about as much as he's been hit as a Los Angeles RAM and that was with mostly their starting group I mean of their starting offens is out if there's a guy in a team that can handle it somehow it's Sean McVey and Matthew Stafford I I don't know exactly how you go about because the skill group is there you mentioned Tyler Johnston Kobe Parkinson was nice I thought Jordan Winnington was great as a you know firsttime Pro so you you think that they've got people to throw the ball to and are there things in their scheme that they can do to sort of alleviate the o line prop the way that they shrink down their formations the way that they create leverage with their emotions the way that they try to get the ball out quickly in the course of a couple weeks in the NFL with 80% of a backup offensive line going again if there's a group that can get it done it's Shawn and Matthew it's just I you'd much rather it be the offensive line the the skill group being the problem and the offensive line being attacked this was going to be one of the best offensive lines in the League this year certainly the interior three in a week they're gone that that's that's tough to overcome I was looking at the schedule too after this week they've got the 49ers I like Arizona so Arizona this week they did a good job for the most part with some of their pressure packages versus Buffalo we just watched what San Francisco did last night in totality like that's if they can find a way to go two and two that'll be an active Jesus oh it could be mcvey's best coaching job can't take the credit though it came from Matt pomoy in our production office all right to the beginning of week two which comes our way Thursday with Bill's Dolphins Josh Allen was hurdling people out there in week one and it resulted in a hand injury you see him wearing the glove right there today this is just in from practice earlier today for the bills here's Allan on how he's feeling at this point um I've done it a long time ago a couple couple cold games and um so it's not anything that's completely new to me but just there for a a little little extra help there's a saying that it's a long way from the heart um I like to say it's a long way from the right hand so uh we're we're okay just trying to be as as nor almost possible um felt like I threw it well today and was able to do all the things so ready to go all right so as you heard him say there it's not his throwing hand and for more we welcome at Elena gettenberg who was at Buffalo's practice today Elena what did you see from Allen on the field out there Laura this practice was Josh Allen doing Josh Allen things it was a very normal practice you wouldn't really have known that his hand was an issue if not for that glove that you mentioned now he did have his ring finger and his middle finger taped up along with that glove glove and some wrapping but I asked coach sha mcder you know is there anything you want to see from Allan out at practice to make you feel comfortable and it was just doing normal things he said and Allan did that he took snaps under Center he took he was in the shotgun doing his normal things passing with receivers and even doing his usual handshakes with them so it was really not much out of the norm during the portion that the media was out there which is that throwing session it was really a normal Josh Allen practice he wasn't you know using that left hand too much but as you said it's his non-throwing hand he's not really doing that anyway when I talked to left tackle Dion Dawkins you know is there any concern when you've got your quarterback injured and he kind of laughed at me a little he was like did you see him leap in week one Josh is Josh there's no concern here he's used to being a tough guy out there thanks to Elena for the latest on Josh Allen we'll keep an eye on it either way but it feels like he's going to be just fine Dan and Hawk have something special for us today on Allen and that Bill's offense what's going on guys yeah if you know Josh at all and with that left-hand injury thank God he's not playing the golf game Buffalo that he loves to play now to the field Buffalo got a guy in Keon Coleman their rookie receiver out of Florida State I want to show four routes because it was a little unknown was he going to transfer receiver wise into the NFL first route I want everyone to see this is the shallow cross what's he do well what's you got to work on for their offense great in the coverage recognition he sees this man to man what he needs to work on is taking a negative angle versus taking what we call a yak angle you see green grass take advantage of it get the ball stay on the move you probably can make this play five yards more so you're saying you don't want him to come back towards the line of scrimmage on this cuz he's got green grass space you want him to keep Flat Earth not drift up a little field to go get as much yards as possible absolutely cuz Josh Allen's going to see that he's going to put it out in front of him and again the result will be probably five yards more down the field before he gets out of B love the recognition now let's go to the bottom of the screen we're going to run Stop Route versus man coverage what's he do well what's he got to work on I mean the beautiful thing about Keon Cole is that he is physical right he holds the line he holds the positioning with the defensive back sudden out of his break love it creates a throwing Lane okay now where I would coach him up is that right here this kind of dance you know uncertainty that you're doing in the NFL it doesn't work Josh Allen's putting on your outside shoulder you catch because he's helping you out and you're saying get vertical right now either way just find a way to get vertical as quickly as possible catch and go okay now the next one I'm going to show you is a little bit of almost a slot Stop Route he's going to be in the slot up top and you're going to get a little short motion and he's just going to try to replace essentially a Zone Defender so it's the same thing with rookie receivers you're you're you're curious if they have the ability to recognize the coverage and what they're supposed to do so he attacks that Defender love he seizes The Zone he sits in the hole perfectly Josh Allen sees it puts it on him same coaching point right yeah you have pit players coming but you see he catches and he kind of pauses to look you can't do that in the NFL especially in the Red Zone catch get vertical immediately almost even before you catch the ball I'm going to reposition my feet as I'm catching so I can catch and dice for as many yards as possible jar Chase one of the best in the NFL doing that now we've seen the go route or excuse me the Stop Route versus man this time we're going to get the go route versus Man coverage so it's something to build off cuz when you remember watching him on the stop route right you seen how physical he wasn't what we call he held the line this is a great catch obviously was what I love about it incredible catch incredible play on the ball which we know he does really well but I would coach him on and say Hey you are running this hump you're making that an impossible throw and if it's not Jos Allen he's the quarterback's probably not going to be able to get you thatall that's the way like I look at it he starts basically on the bottom of the numbers and it almost looks like he's allowing that defensive back to push him to the sideline you're saying squeeze that DB inside absolutely conceding way too much space look where look where he's at when this ball is there yeah this is either if not inside it's going to be out of bounds it's an impossible throw that's the only place Josh Allen can put it as opposed to him being strong and physical like he is getting on the outside shoulder and holding his positioning so that Josh Allen has the choice so there's something to good there's something good to work off the recognition the understanding you saw some of the toughness and the contested catches the strength but there's sounds like the refining element of Route running there's going to be growth there absolutely that's what you get with rookies I love it guys Coleman finished with four catches 51 yards on Sunday led the bills in both those categories how about Sam darnold though okay he had one of the best games he's had in the NFL on Sunday completing 79% of his passes which was the second highest in any start of his career he finished with an 81 qbr which was almost twice as good as his average entering the season he averaged 8.7 yards per attempt against the gmen two yards more than his career average Vikings head coach Kevin oconnell spoke yesterday about what what led to darnold's impressive debut I think Sam being around uh you know being around you know the n and Kyle and how he coached you know that group last year I think he took a lot of out out of that and then uh I think just the way he went about the daily I really stressed to Sam throughout training camp um you know as we installed plays go through a process of how you were digesting that information what you were doing uh at night before we you know if we gave him information early how he was going about trying to be comfortable with that what types of questions would he ask either in the quarterback meeting or when I get a chance with him one-on-one and then that clar that I can give him going into the games when we go through the whole call sheet the day before Saturday mornings that's why we do the things that that we do to make sure he does have that confidence what did Mina call uh the Sam darnold fans uh Sam darnold Hive oh no I thought it was like sist or sampath or something sers I think you just made words you made up both of those I definitely didn't either there there's a few of us that are fans of Sam darnold on the show gr what more can you tell us about darnold's preparation for Minnesota's open yeah that was one of my training camp stops and I talked to Kevin oconnell about Sam darnold when I was there and you know he's he's a sympathizer he he really felt like he was going to be good uh and he felt like he did mention that that year last year in San Francisco with Kyle Shanahan and and seeing Sam darnold as a player who as he told me can really has gotten to the point where he can compartmentalize each stop on his journey the good and the bad and kind of you know take from each and and and he talked about what he just mentioned in that press conference about you know sort of seeing how far they can push him mentally right and and to the point where he really feels Sam does that he has ownership of the offense oconnell and and and that crew that's where they want their quarterbacks to be and they felt really good about darnold's progress and that he was going to hit the ground running in week one I was there before JJ McCarthy got hurt Dan and they were planning to start Sam darnold week one like unless something like crazy happened the rest of Camp they felt really good about where Donald would be at this point I think he's done a remarkable job week one of marrying his feet to the pass concept and that's a lost start right now in the NFL I remember in Carolina Sam was bad at this and he's really taken great growth okay seam route under Center watch his feet okay the mirring of his feet 1 2 3 4 5 one hitch ball has to come out two and a half seconds that's exactly how that route has to be thrown now a deep Corner this time it has to be 1 two three in the gun two hitches at the top top 1 2 3 Hitch hitch ball comes out 3.4 seconds that's exactly how the quarterback has to play in this offense deep 15 yd out now that in the gun this has to be three steps watch his feet with two hitches excuse me one hitch 1 2 3 4 five ball out Sam really struggled with this early on he really struggled with in Carolina I remember doing a breakdown of Sam being ready to throw cuz 1 2 3 4 5 hitch and the receivers weren't even close to the routes you know this I think it's a start in many of the much of the NFL right now and he's really grown when it comes to okay my route has to my depth excuse me my my drop has to have this type of pace with this type of feel and I have to be ready to throw at this moment marrying it with those routes that's why you see some of the Talent start to shine for a young guy that can throw it to your point it feels like Sam darnold is getting delayed development like he's getting the development now in these last couple of years that you wish he would have got when he was exactly because to your point about his footwork how it mirriors up with the play he he's playing like a quarterback who was confident in the play calls who was confident in the coaching and realized it is this is not all on my shoulder so if I just do what I'm told and I'm efficient my receivers are going to be where they need to be and that year in San Francisco coupled with this week one performance which was masterful that 99 yard Drive was very very special now my question for him is it does not surprise me that someone with his physical tools y can Flash the way that he did in week one consistency consistency is what will be I think that's a fair question I think the way that the feet looked in week one that bodess that that tells me that is going to be a part of his game this year in the offensive line being as good as they are remember they have the 49ers coming up they have the Texans after that the Packers Maybe by that point Jordan loves back so he's got some more tests here we'll really see how good he is all right coming up week one fore [Music] speee for speech spe fore spee spee do for foreign foreign speech I don't even see it back most s spee spee you aim to E
