WELL, >>CHRISTINE: SUPPORT CONTINUES TO POUR IN AS THE BARROW COUNTY COMMUNITY BEGINS THE HEALING PROCESS. TWO TEACHERS AND TWO STUDENTS WERE KILLED WHEN A GUNMAN WALKED ONTO CAMPUS AND OPENED FIRE. NINE OTHERS WERE INJURED IN THE SHOOTING. OUR LIVE TEAM COVERAGE CONTINUES THIS AFTERNOON. FOX FIVE ANCHOR COURTNEY BRYANT JOINS US FROM APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL IN BARROW COUNTY. AND COURTNEY, IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE'S STILL SO MUCH ACTIVITY THERE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL IN LIGHT OF THIS HUGE INVESTIGATION. THAT'S RIGHT CHRISTINE, A LOT OF ACTIVITY, BUT OBVIOUSLY NO CLASS IN SESSION TODAY, A DAY WHEN STUDENTS SHOULD BE ON THEIR FOURTH OR FIFTH WEEK OF CLASSES, RESUMING AFTER THE SUMMER BREAK. AND IT IS ACTUALLY SURPRISINGLY BUSY HERE. I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY THERE ARE MEMBERS OF THE NEWS MEDIA HERE REPORTING ON THE SCHOOL SHOOTING, BUT WE HAVE JUST SEEN PERSON AFTER PERSON COMING HERE ONTO THE CAMPUS, EITHER TO LEAVE FLOWERS OR JUST TO KIND OF WALK AROUND AND TAKE IN THE GENERAL MOOD OF THINGS. PEOPLE ARE JUST STILL LETTING IT SINK IN. WHAT TOOK PLACE HERE YESTERDAY THAT LED TO THE DEATHS OF FOUR MEMBERS OF THIS APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY. NOW, WE DO WANT TO SHOW YOU ANOTHER LOOK AT THAT MUG SHOT WE JUST GOT IN. THIS IS OUR FIRST LOOK OF THE SUSPECTED SHOOTER, 14 YEARS OLD COLT GRAY. HE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH FOUR COUNTS OF FELONY MURDER. HE IS CURRENTLY IN THE GAINESVILLE REGIONAL YOUTH DETENTION CENTER. BUT KEEP IN MIND, HE WILL BE TRIED AS AN ADULT. THAT'S WHAT WE GOT FROM THE GBI YESTERDAY. HIS FIRST COURT APPEARANCE WILL BE TOMORROW MORNING. WE CONTINUE OUR LIVE TEAM COVERAGE. OUR ANGELIQUE PROCTOR SPOKE WITH NEIGHBORS OF THE VICTIMS, BUT WE BEGIN WITH ERIC PERRY AND ERIC JUST A FEW MINUTES AGO, WE HEARD FROM A STUDENT YOU SPOKE WITH WHO WITNESSED THE SHOOTING AND ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN HIS CLASSROOM. LET'S WALK THROUGH THAT. YEAH. COURTNEY, I MEAN, IT WAS REALLY CHILLING TO HEAR. I MEAN, THIS STUDENT SAW THE GUNMAN BURST THROUGH HIS DOOR, POINTED THE GUN AT HIM, AND HE KNOWS THE TWO VICTIMS. HE SAYS BOTH OF THEM WERE IN HIS ALGEBRA CLASS. YOU MENTIONED EARLIER I WAS OUT HERE 9:00 THIS MORNING, 930 THIS MORNING, AND SINCE THEN THERE HAS BEEN A STEADY STREAM, A STEADY FLOW OF PEOPLE WALKING THROUGH HERE WITH FLOWERS, BALLOONS AS THEY COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY. WE DO WANT TO SET THE TABLE. WE KNOW IT'S DIFFICULT TO HEAR, BUT THIS IS WHAT WE UNDERSTAND FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT TO HAVE HAPPENED YESTERDAY HERE AT THE SCENE. LET'S TAKE YOU TO SOME VIDEO HERE. GBI AND BARROW COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS SAY THEY FIRST GOT THAT CALL AT 1020 IN THE MORNING FOR GUNFIRE INSIDE APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL. THEY SAY WITHIN MINUTES THEY CAME FACE TO FACE WITH THE SHOOTER, WHICH WE NOW KNOW AS 14 YEAR OLD COLT GRAY, AND HE EVENTUALLY DROPPED HIS ASSAULT STYLE WEAPON AND SURRENDERED. THOSE TWO TEACHERS, RICHARD ASPINWALL AND CHRISTINA IRONE, AND TWO STUDENTS, MASON SCHERMERHORN AND CHRISTIAN ANGULO, ALL KILLED THERE. NINE OTHERS ARE EXPECTED TO RECOVER, BUT THEY WERE ALSO INJURED BY THE GUNFIRE OR IN SOME SORT AS WELL. NOW, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A REGULAR DAY FOR STUDENTS. MANY TOLD ME YESTERDAY WHILE I WAS OUT HERE ON SCENE, THEY WERE EXCITED FOR THE DAY. THEY WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THEIR FRIENDS AND OF COURSE THIS TURNED TRAGIC. WE DO WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU AGAIN TO A CHARACTER. HE DOESN'T WANT TO SHOW HIS FACE OR HIS NAME, BUT HE WANTS TO SHARE HIS STORY. HE WAS IN THAT CLASSROOM WHEN COLT GRAY CAME IN AND POINTED A GUN AND SHOT SEVERAL OF HIS CLASSMATES IN ALGEBRA CLASS. TAKE A LISTEN. >>>>: AND AFTER THREE HITS, THE DOOR FLEW OPEN AND ALL I SAW WAS WHEN I TURNED AROUND FOR A FEW SECONDS WAS A FIGURE WITH LIKE A PRETTY LARGE GUN, AIMING AT ALL THE STUDENTS AND, ALL I COULD THINK OF RIGHT IN THAT SECOND WAS TO DUCK. SO I JUMPED UNDER MY DESK, AND, HE ONLY HE STARTED SHOOTING AT THE CLASS AND ONLY DID IT FOR, LIKE A FEW SECONDS BEFORE HE WENT TO THE NEXT CLASS. SOME OF THE GIRLS WERE YELLING BECAUSE THEY GOT SHOT IN THE ARMS AND LEGS. SO THE TEACHERS STARTED LIKE, I TOOK MY HOODIE OFF TO HELP ONE OF THE TEACHERS, LIKE, BLOCK A WOUND ON ONE OF THE STUDENTS SO THEY WOULD STOP BLEEDING SO MUCH. YEAH, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEARNING ALGEBRA, NOT HELPING HIS BLEEDING CLASSMATE. BUT EVERYONE WAS COMING TOGETHER IN THOSE TERRIFIED MOMENTS. OF COURSE. SCHOOL CANCELED FOR THIS DISTRICT FOR THE REST OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. HERE WE'RE ALSO LEARNING THAT THE SUSPECT IS DUE IN COURT TOMORROW MORNING AT 830. AND COURTNEY, I JUST WANT TO ALSO MENTION THIS AS WELL, SOMETHING I'VE NOTICED HERE. WE'VE SEEN A TOW TRUCK HERE REMOVE A LOT OF THE CARS THAT IS IN THE PARKING LOT THAT IS BEHIND US. I'M TOLD THAT'S BECAUSE MANY OF THE FACULTY, THE STAFF AND EVEN THOSE SENIORS WHO MIGHT HAVE DROVE TO CLASS THERE OR DROVE TO SCHOOL IN HIGH SCHOOL, THEY DON'T WANT TO COME BACK TO THIS CAMPUS AFTER WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY. SO THAT TOW TRUCK IS CARRYING THOSE CARS AWAY TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION. SO THEY CAN PICK UP. THIS WILL HAVE LASTING EFFECTS FOR EVERYONE THAT IS INVOLVED IN THIS. COURTNEY. YEAH. COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE WHY YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO RETURN TO THE SCENE OF WHAT HAPPENED HERE. JUST A DAY LATER. ERIC, DID YOU DID YOU GET A SENSE FROM THE STUDENT THAT HE WAS EITHER FAMILIAR WITH THE SUSPECT OR THAT HE HAD EVEN MET HIM OR RECOGNIZED HIM? YEAH. SO HE DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THIS SUSPECT. HE ACTUALLY SAID THAT HE BELIEVES THAT THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN HIS FIRST CLASS, THAT THE SUSPECT HAD KNOCKED ON AND TRIED TO GET IN, AND UNFORTUNATELY, HE WAS ABLE TO GET IN. BUT HE KNEW THOSE TWO STUDENTS AS WELL. CHRISTIAN WHO HE WAS CLOSEST WITH. HE DESCRIBED HIM AS SOMEONE WHO WAS LOVING AND FUN AND JUST REALLY LOYAL AND RELIABLE THERE, AND HE WATCHED HIM DIE IN FRONT OF HIM. HE WATCHED HIS OTHER CLASSMATES THERE, SHOT BY A GUNMAN WHO HE HAD NO CLUE WHO HE WAS, AND SAID THAT HE LEFT THE CLASS AND THEN WENT TO ANOTHER OR TRIED TO GO INTO ANOTHER CLASSROOM AND DO THE SAME. BUT HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW THE GUNMAN, BUT OF COURSE HE KNEW HIS CLASSMATES. WHILE THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST BEEN LEARNING ALGEBRA, YEAH, JUST UNIMAGINABLE TO GO THROUGH THAT AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE. OBVIOUSLY OUR HEARTS, OUR CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO THAT STUDENT AND SO MANY OTHERS HERE. ERIC, THANKS. NOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS CONTINUE TO GATHER AND PRAY FOR THE FAMILIES OF THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LOVED ONES IN THIS. WE TURN ONCE AGAIN TO OUR ANGELIQUE PROCTOR, WHO IS TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT WHO THESE FOUR VICTIMS WERE. ANGELIQUE WELL, >>REPORTER: GOOD AFTERNOON COURTNEY. THIS IS CLEARLY A COMMUNITY IN MOURNING. SO MUCH HURT AND PAIN HERE. SO MANY TEARS BEING SHED. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, LOTS OF PRAYERS GOING UP. NOW. THE APALACHEE HIGH COMMUNITY STILL, THOUGH IN DISBELIEF THAT TWO TEACHERS AND TWO STUDENTS WERE KILLED WITHIN THE SCHOOL WALLS YESTERDAY. PEOPLE ARE DROPPING OFF FLOWERS AND TEDDY BEARS FOR STUDENTS. CHRISTIAN ANGELO, WHO IS BEING REMEMBERED BY FRIENDS AS A FREE SPIRIT WHO HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. AND STUDENT MASON SCHERMERHORN, WHOSE FAMILY SAYS HE WAS ALWAYS POSITIVE AND LOOKING FOR THE BRIGHT SIDE OF THINGS. AND OF COURSE, THOSE TWO BELOVED TEACHERS WHO WERE KILLED. MATH TEACHER AND ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH RICHARD ASPINWALL AND MATH TEACHER CHRISTINA IRONE. NOW, BY MOST ACCOUNTS, BOTH TEACHERS DIED WHILE TRYING TO PROTECT THEIR STUDENTS. IRMA'S NEIGHBOR TALKED TO US ABOUT HER BRAVERY, >>>>: AND IT'S JUST SO UNFORTUNATE THAT, YOU KNOW, IN THAT MOMENT, WHILE TRYING TO SAVE HER STUDENTS, SHE HAD TO LOSE HER LIFE. YOU KNOW? AND >>REPORTER: GOFUNDME ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN SET UP FOR ALL FOUR OF THESE VICTIMS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE OR LEARN MORE, PLEASE GO TO OUR FOX FIVE WEB PAGE. YEAH, JUST SO HEARTBREAKING, BUT IT'S SO GOOD TO LEARN MORE ABOUT WHO THESE PEOPLE WERE. JUST REALLY BRINGS MORE TO THE HUMANITY. WE HOPE TO NEVER FORGET WHO THEY WERE. ANGELIQUE. THANKS. NOW, IN THE WAKE OF YESTERDAY'S DEADLY MASS SHOOTING, MENTAL HEALTH EXPERTS ARE OFFERING SOME ADVICE THAT CAN HELP PEOPLE TO COPE WITH THIS. THEY SAY IT'S REALLY CRITICAL FOR THOSE WHO ENCOUNTERED THE SHOOTING TO GET THE HELP THEY NEED. EXPERTS SAY HANDLING THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE CAN BE INTENSE TO MANAGE AND IT HAS LED PSYCHOLOGISTS TO CALL FOR THE CREATION OF NEW POLICIE. DOCTORS RECOMMEND SCHOOLS OFFER BEREAVEMENT LEAVE POLICIES FOR STUDENTS IN ADDITION TO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES THAT >>>>: SENSE OF ISOLATION CAN BE SO DECREASED IT CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO HAVE A COMMUNITY WITHIN WHICH YOU CAN SHARE YOUR GRIEF IN A VERY OPEN KIND OF WA, AND NOT HAVE TO FILTER. EXPERTS SAY THE GRIEF GROUPS CAN HELP FOSTER DEEPER CONNECTIONS. OF COURSE, IT'S EASIER TO GRIEVE IN COMMUNITY THAN TO GRIEVE ALONE, AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE SEEING A LOT OF. CHRISTINE, WE'LL SEND THINGS BACK TO YOU THERE IN THE STUDIO, BUT WE'LL SEE AGAIN WHAT IS GOING ON TONIGHT IN TERMS OF VIGILS AND MEMORIALS. I KNOW WE SAW A LOT OF THAT IN THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH YESTERDAY, BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT IT BRINGS TO MIND, SOMETHING THAT THE BARROW COUNTY SHERIFF SAID DURING THE NEWS CONFERENCE LAST NIGHT WHEN HE SAID, THIS COMMUNITY JUST NEEDS PRAYER. I THINK THEY REALLY DO WELCOME THE WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND JUST HEARING PEOPLE SAY THAT WE'RE THINKING ABOUT YOU AND THAT YOU'RE NOT ALONE. >>CHRISTINE: YEAH, AND TO EXPRESS THAT WITH EACH OTHER AND IN SOME SORT OF GATHERING, WE'VE SEEN IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN, OFTEN HELPS WITH THAT HEALING PROCESS. COURTNEY AND ALL THE REST OF OUR REPORTERS THANK YOU SO MUCH. GREAT REPORTING THERE FROM APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL. STAY WITH US FOR CONTINUING COVERAGE OF THIS DEVELOPING STORY. WE WILL HAVE ANY NEW DETAILS AS THEY COME
