College Football 25 VS Utah

welcome to Salt Lake city where the mighty Utah student section is ready to turn this place into a cauldron of noise tricyle Stadium home to the Utah youths as we wind our way toward the end of another college football season one of the Grand Traditions is paying tribute and respect to those who have just poured their Souls into the success of this program and honor the seniors on senior day as we'll see the number 23 team in the country the West Virginia Mountaineers taking on the winners of five straight the Utah youths for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started and they desperately wanted to attempt to return but decided not to instead they'll take the touch back so the Utah Utes offense will get the first swing of the game and here he comes this offense is built completely around the talents of this running back a rare commodity in today's game and all eyes are on it and the defense knows it too you know every single snap this defense is going to be keying on this running back knowing that he is the key to the offens of success and they'll come to the line just needing a few chain links for a first down the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D hand off to the lone back and he won't quite get there but boy after that pick up just a few inches to go for the first an array of possibilities here they'll try to pick it up on the ground he'll move it up to the 37 yd line and it'll be a first down the yous come to the line with a new set of [Applause] downs touch pass on the Jet Sweep we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up deep in the season that crisp air all around you and this feels like a must win game guys this is a game that will impact the college football playoff it'll have Conference Championship implications and it'll have bowl game implications as well David so much riding on the line this one and you can feel it man you you can feel the energy the players this week they were on high like you could tell they were ready for the challenge this is going to be an absolute Showdown back to the ground with the running back and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and the you will bring the punt team onto the field his first one of the day gave gave that leg a work out five times in last week's Victory the Mountaineers offense will try to get something going with their first possession one thing to keep an eye on in this game when they get a back isolated on a linebacker who wins that matchup quarterback likes the matchup but this linebacker he's different man not only is he a hitter he's got the athleticism to cover people too normally you say that's a win for the running back running back on a linebacker I win but this guy is different be interested to watch match up I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short this crowd going to try to make life miserable for these guys they'll try to run for it and they'll get it to the 39 yd line and they'll move the chains really nice job on third down by this offense this offense has struggled on third Downs throughout the season not even in the top 50 but you know what when you make it third and short you can when you have the Run pass option and you're not predictable you can be more successful so let's see if this offense can continue to put themselves in good positions love the push by the offensive line on that rbo play look how they just work the single teams and the double teams you see linemen chipping off of their guys and climbing into the second level and getting a hat on the linebacker that's why those types of plays were successful that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fumble it'll be third down we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five back to pass it's Burton finds his tight end still on his feet at the 45 nice job to pick up the first down and they'll spot it at the 42 and the Mountaineers are moving quickly down the field using the quick game and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up this is a very tough slot receiver to cover if you're a linebacker because of how quick and how Shifty he is you never seem to know which way he's going and he always seems to create an open space for his QB quickly to the tight end oh look out there he goes touchdown West Virginia reeled it in and just made the house call and what a nice start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in Rhythm nice start for this offense lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game 76 yds on the drive for the touchdown and the final 41 yds covered by that touchdown strike and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line Utah has it back and the offense coming onto the field David the putter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the punter out there this offense needs to get back lathered up and get a little bit more of a rhythm best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them the football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense from the gun give on the inside he picks up maybe a couple before he stopped right at the 30 yd Line This is where you make the money on the drive ball at the 30 it's third and short from the gun they'll give it on the inside and there were some cisions in there and the D finally stops him short of the marker the UTS will line up to pun it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away a lowline drive and short kick fair catch called for and made West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook Jesse a very productive Drive five last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one day let's see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going looking downfield it's Burton he looks that one in nicely really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down new set of downs after that completion grabbed over the middle it's Ray they make the tackle at the 36 but they're in plus territory now with the 15yd pickup the Mountaineers with the first and 10 receiver on the Move gets the touch pass pass the 25 and he's brought down after a nice gain it's so hard for a defense to have to stop plays like that because it really forces you to play with great eye discipline you see the pre- snap motion defense doesn't know if he's just running across the field and he's going to run a route if he's going to block or if he has the football that time he was able to outflank the defense and hurt them to get that first down can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air with the catch it's Williams really nice job by the defense keeping everything in front of you in that situation and rallying to the football and now you're rewarded with third and long so we'll see on this next play if they do the same thing here or if they sell out and bring the oh what a grab by the defense he was looking for room to return that but he'll just hand it to the offense still take over at the 18 on a cold night you feel every Collision blocking tackling whatever even when you get an interception like you did right there it still hurts so the cold will be a factor in this ball game how about the defense coming out making a statement right out the gates the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guide find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum tried to move that pile forward he maybe gets two he's down at the 21 they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one he'll keep keep it himself got the first down and more and he's brought down after a nice game it's first and 10 from the 31 on the run it's Mitchell at the 45 on it way he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense [Applause] from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter to the ground with the back on the move at the 30 finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down guys that's the end of the quarter and West Virginia has the lead we put one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary back at it to open the quarter with this first down play movement here from the tight end they'll ride the hot hand pull down after a pick up of six but he gets it inside the Red Zone it's down at the 15 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four in the red area it's Mitchell fights his way ahead they get him down after a pick up of three they'll mark it at the 12 they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal it'll be a run on Third and short they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 this drive has been exclusively on the ground could they be setting up a shot play a first down run in the Red Zone he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple listen the offensive coordinator's best friend in the red zone is the running game make guys commit near the line of scrimmage so I can throw behind this defense is good but I'm going to challenge them I'm I'm going to try to be the more physical team I love the play call I think you keep running the football and stay physical after a drive this long a field goal would be a punch in the gut it's third and goal he wants it all got it in the middle it's Washington and good coverage by the defense just a short game they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down and the kicker delivers the threee ball to finish off the drive well the head coach decided to play it safe on Fourth and inches to try his field goal team out there and his field goal kicker just made him look like a pretty smart guy so after the made field goal they'll kick it away and rely on their defense he'll start the return inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work boy they had that last Drive moving a little bit David but then the mistake just crushed them yeah and those mistakes are going to happen you going to throw the football you're going to throw interceptions but I think I stay aggressive with this offense I get back to what I did in the first part of that drive what made me successful I agree David just turn the page if you're a quarterback right in this drive you did a lot of good things there leading up to that pick forget about it move on play the next play they'll keep it on the ground and the Mountaineers have enough for the first down well they picked up that first running the football that's good news for an offensive line that really has been getting pushed around and bullied in this game so far let's see what happens moving forward he make the stop after a gain of three to the 31 yeah and listen offensively you run the RP just positive yards make the right read read the guy if he wants to drop back a little bit hand it off get some positive yards go on to the next play the give from the gun finds enough room to get three out through the 34 you know runs like this often times are like a boxer and boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs good timing on the quick out and they reacted well to the completion but it was 28 to keep them from getting the first down the Mountaineers are rolling down the field caught in the back field it's Gallagher and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one how about this that's catch number 300 in his career and it doesn't matter who's been playing quarterback in this offense who's ever pulling the trigger they know this guy is Dependable 300 catch David that is a lot just unreal consistency over 300 catches that is unbelievably amazing the consistency the work the toughness the durability this dude's done it all they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down and the Mountaineers will snap it on First and 10 snagged in the middle it's Ray finds a crease at the 20 down Mountaineers and once he got loose it was all over no long touchdown passes don't have to come in the shape of go routes and posts you can throw a slant if your guy is able to make one dude Miss and build up some steam when you got speed like that you can take it to the house and that's exactly what he did and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Connor's in the studio all right guys a little update on what else is happening in college football this weekend Oregon has some work to do but go against this team at your own risk the program who played in the first ever cfp Championship is always a threat to come back it's just a field goal game they're trailing by three to UCLA we'll Circle back if anything big happens you should know about oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on it for us good solid determined run there they'll Mark him down at the 27 good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and [Applause] three he'll do it himself he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple now looking for that first down on Third and short from the 26 I I think a lot of quarterbacks like those defenses that will be passive and let you let it slow slowly develop now this defense you can tell they were aggressive and attacking and it really play off and they line up from the 31 on first down and first down for the off used the play fake now to throw snags it over the middle and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first down and the short completion brings up second down he'll put the tight end in motion they'll leave it with him one step WRA twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground offense breaks the Huddle on third down takes a hand off it's Mitchell he's able to fight his way for a couple of yards but it'll be fourth down and three and the you send out the punt unit great contact on that ball as it just hangs up in the sky this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time the fair catch just inside the 40 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that side line what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right there not many receivers like to get hit they just don't okay they're Prim madonas that's what they are that's who they are nice job by the defender you could tell he was catching the football he was going to put a hit on him to make sure he had to think about something later and you could see the ball pop out and fall to the ground and he was on his way gets it all the way to the 38th and he's been the go-to guy all year long like he's in the top five in all of college football and receiving yards for a reason they're going to find him because he's always open making plays this dude has been unbelievable he's being mentioned in the Heisman conversation that is really hard to do as a wide receiver so that shows you what kind of special year this young man's having the give to the back runs through a tackle P down after a pick up of five but they knocked that defense back and they've got it down to the 34 we've reach the two-minute warning and they will try to build on what has already been a dominant first half performance looking to throw it's Burton finds a soft spot in the middle excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down the mountain want to crank the tempo from the Red Zone he's going to throw it can't make the grab as he was looking for his man right at the goal line well the game plan's been pretty simple offensively right they are taking shots and they're being aggressive throwing it down the field this guy's already got two touchdown passes we're still in the first half on that last one he was looking and the pass is picked off God room on the return the 40 running inside the 20 touchdown Y and this defense coming up with points of their own what an interception return what about the speed from that defender on the return he's showing you Reese like listen it's not just wide receivers that I can take this thing the house I got some moves watch this unbelievable job flipping the field offense about to score defense makes the huge plays and gets points out of it and with the extra point they cut the lead to 1410 they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return West Virginia has it the offense ready to go to work that last pick six after a drive like that David can swing the momentum of a game the defense is still celebrating I mean such a big play I mean they they gave up some yards but did what they're supposed to do now Jesse this offense has to put a drive again yeah they have to recapture some momentum here what they can't do is go three and out get the ball right back got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down looking for a man it's Burton shoots it to the left wide open downfield just gashing this defense a big Gainer to the 4 Y Line This offense is like running a Perfection drill in practice against air chunk play after chunk play and here they come again wants to throw on first down just too much of a rush and down goes the quarterback just behind the Midfield strip at the 49 the offense waste no time getting the timeout call first down sack pushes it back now it's second down on second down he'll let it fly finds the tight end they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks and after that pitch and catch he's already over 200 yards and we're in the first half Jesse man ree he's dialed in right now he's really doing a nice job seeing the field reading coverages and finding his open ball decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down find his big tight end really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first [Applause] down used the play fake now to throw pass rush coming after the quarterback and they get him at the 32 and the Mountaineers are in the hurry up he's looking for an open man on second down that's caught it's G ER they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down quite a bit of work to do on third down from the 23 and this D would love to force a field goal [Applause] try and just not enough field to hold that when it's incomplete it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal he needs to make sure those mechanics are pure from the right hash and 40 yds away good right down the Boulevard score West Virginia 1 Utah that late in the half field goal always gives you a little boost going to the locker room and they'll need to finish off these final few seconds and not allow them to answer here he comes from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 though the offense has had enough they'll take a knee and wrap up this first half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update gentlemen you've been calling a lively one so far from Salt Lake City and we'd be remiss if we didn't start this halftime report by acknowledging the sparkling play of this tight end the guy's like an aircraft carrier out there as a blocker and then when he releases and shows off that speed and Route running he's almost unguardable got to believe he won't be able to go anywhere in this second half without someone attached to his hip and with that let's send it back to the fellows at Rice Echo Stadium the UTS will kick it away to start the second [Applause] half from inside his own 15 look looking for a crevice and returner will be dragged down West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook they had this lead to start the third quarter because of the passing game didn't get a lot done on the ground they didn't but the quarterback is in a rhythm that was obvious in the first half and so this first drive you want to continue that you want to see good decision making you want to see him playing on time and is always delivering the football I I mean I don't know how I don't give him the football it's the reason I built the lead he's the guy that I can trust this offense is built around him so I expect more of the same here in the second half grabbed on the outside it's Williams and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain really nice timing on that out route there good Anticipation by the QB getting it out on time and how about the receiver securing the catch tapping the toes before he went out of bounds looking for a man it's Burton quickly out to the tight end the Mountaineers are stopped but not before getting the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs from the gun they'll try to impose their will he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple so you get stuffed on first down and now you have the offensive coordinator thinking a little bit yeah we're probably going to have to throw it now in this second play but what are we going to see defensively now that they know we're throwing might they Blitz us do I have to leave more guys in the block there's a real cat and mouse game going on right now between these two coachings look you can't take away everything right so you give them that and rally and make a solid tackle yeah and a lot of times in zone coverage I like when I can get all the eyes on the quarterback I like when I can see the routes and see them develop in the middle and you could tell they had keys on the tight end he wasn't going anywhere after he caught that football on Third and long trying to have a big completion here grabs it in the middle there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down and the Mountaineers are on the move from the shotgun the hand off to the back and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down the Mountaineers will have it first and 10 used the play fake now to throw off def flection missed a great chance to force the turnover instead it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again looking to pass on second down and that's going to fall to the ground incomplete that was a physical matchup there third down coming if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum to the air it's Burton throws to the wide out working the middle they'll pick up enough yardage for the first down they've got it at the 30 and with that pass right there over 300 yds that's a good day at the office being able to execute doing a good job seeing what's coming anticipating taking some shots but has H really strong put up some good and that was some kind of collision between a couple of big bodies there and he stopped from getting the first down defense has to be frustrated the offense keeps matriculating and matriculating and matriculating the ball down the field out of the gun the inside G dragged down to the turf but not before getting the first down a lot of times when you think about speed back speed speed speed you think on the edge you don't think in between the tackles you don't think about breaking tackles they try to break your ankles the problem is when you're trying to run there as F what a job to lay out and make the catch and this junior loves to show off that big arm fans are bringing the noise on first and goal Let's It Go to The End Zone and it's CAU touchdown Mountaineers that touchdown grabbed the 25th of his career not surprising either when you've got this guy's ability at that position quarterbacks are going to be looking for you 25 touchdown catches that's an impressive figure yeah he's definitely one of those guys that have been so big time Big Time moments clutch plays you know makes those contested catches he's a guy that can do everything and that's why he's putting up such great stats lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive [Applause] and no chance at a return here they'll start this drive at their own 25 Utah has a back on the offense coming onto the field this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game so Palmer no need to panic I was just going to say David I mean this thing can flip quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely different they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 and a first Power football with the run you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs and he gets it out to the 41 solid pick up a four on first down and second and six out of the gun the running back has it and the defense snows him under after a very short game this offensive line better figure out of plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that and the defense had its hands full but they finally wrestle him down short of the first down and the youths line up to pun it away a high kick let's see if he can pin him back back deep in their own end you'll call for the fair catch here West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing call yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place trying play action gets it out quickly he get him down after he makes the catch it's so nice as a quarterback when you've got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good feel to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback makes the grab over the middle good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 here's this offense with a fresh set of downs leaves it with the back and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four offenses when they run these rpos they just won't be comfortable the quarterback wants to make the read very easy very clean it's your job as a defense kind of create some confusion speed up that process any way you can and the Mountaineers get it past the sticks they're lining up on First and 10 from the 38 looking for room it's white and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 they'll Run play action coming after him nothing doing downfield he'll cut his losses and throw it away it'll be third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here to the air it's Burton feeling some heat and the quarterback will be slung down back at the 43 the Mountaineers will putt this one away he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep and it'll be down right there the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going going to the ground they'll stop him at the 22 after 5yd pick off on first down from their own [Applause] 22 Ed the play fake now to throw a strike downfield they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter he's looking to throw grabbed in the middle it's Alexander Russell to the ground after picking up the first down and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've seen one more quarter to play and it might be unlikely but a it's college football comebacks happen the youths are marching down the field he'll pull it on the read they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one nice job playing assignment football by that defensive end knowing what my job is not letting that quarterback get out get loose making a good play and most importantly and it's intercepted a turnover from the defense bringing it back and he will roll into the end zone touchdown West Virginia virgin they put another score on the board as they try to push this winning streak to three yeah and that just might do it man offense needed points needed points badly defense comes up with the big interception takes it all the way back just to pad their lead a little bit and make this game almost almost Out Of Reach and the extra point splits the upright and they're up a full three touchdowns a 21-point cushion in the fourth they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pick six he'll bring it back from inside his five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Utah has it back and the offense coming onto the field the big thing now don't get rattled by that last pick six David N it was a big mistake uh obviously the defense took advantage of it but you got to put it behind you Jesse I'm sure you know a thing or two about throwing a pick six and and had a rebound I believe I've only thrown one in my life but yes I do because of that singular instant I'll say this you can't let that play Beat you twice you got to go out not try to get it all back here in one play Just execute the offense oh so close to paying off the tip drill he had it in his hands but it falls incomplete third and long and he'll try to throw for it fires to the big fella and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down quick strike complete finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down and the yous come to the line with a fresh set of downs they keep attacking through the air he's got his man he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down and defense L this is exactly what you want right you got the big lead so you can play Big Zone coverages just keep the ball in front of you keep your eye on the quarterback rally to the football gang tackle and you're going to win this game all kinds of room to throw that one in there couldn't ask for much more there a first down and they're down to the 42 sixth play of the drive coming up first down Wilson will throw do just a short pass to the tight end they pick up half of it it'll be second and five well here's the problem offensively because you're trailing by so much so late in the game the defense now is going to be playing big Zone coverages and they're going to allow you to throw the ball underneath in the middle of the field rally to make a tackle and bed the clock it's going to be hard now for this offense to claw their way back in this one we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five fires to the wide out another incompletion on third down coach has no choice here the offense has to stay on the field down multiple possessions this late fourth down attempt coming pocket starts to collapse and they got him a sack will try to convert on fourth down the offense lining up for a first down play On The Run it's white still running at the 40 he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down one of the things I love about these misdirection type plays is that you can pull offensive linemen and get extra bodies at the point of attack so you're setting yourself up with good angles if you execute it properly David you saw it right there and saying the word angles means a lot because that's exactly what you do now I can down and I can leave somebody unblocked pull around kick him out use misdirection in the back field really just get your eyes as a defense on something else and then go the other direction nice misdirection play call by this offense fires to the tight end he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short I think that time offensively were just trying to take what the defense is giving you right they playing Zone coverage you got your big fella just working right over the ball it's an easy pitch and catch just take the profit let's keep going here comes third and short from the 24 and this offense does not want to send out the field goal unit they'll try to get the first through the air got it in the middle it's gager he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch anytime the ball goes in the air towards him I feel like like it's his like there are no 50/50 balls he just makes plays game after game play after play and you see him featured in this offense for a reason he's one of the best in the country not just at the wide receiver position period This Guy's in the Heisman Trophy conversation as a receiver they'll give it to it'll bring up a decision on fourth down and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight it is perfect and now the lead is even bigger and let's check in with Kevin Conor's in the studio Kevin guys let's recap that ranked on ranked matchup that has just gone final Texas A&M found a way to pick up the W and a win is a win but this was not the type of convincing Victory they've gotten used to in College Station each week in college football the tests are just so tough and we found that out again today guys with another ranked team going down and Kevin Conor is keeping an eye on everything all over the country sounds like they had a good one there that last completion has him set up second and short he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Washington and he gets it to the 45 yd line and that'll be a first down and now a fresh set of downs for this offense first he'll come out throwing on first down and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball you couldn't make the connection on first down now here on second they're going to throw it again again and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense even if they don't confirm picking up a few would give them a decision to make on fourth down is third and long from the 45 it's caught down field a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down the youths look to keep this drive humming first down for the offense he wants to throw hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver offense gets set for second [Applause] down Wilson to pass finds his man down the middle nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down the offens is struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me this coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game going to the running game and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that stopping the run is about physicality it's about I'm bigger than you I'm stronger than you up front really nice job by the defense showing their strength bowing up stuffing the run unloads it left and this sophomore's going to learn you can't force that type of pass very lucky to get it back they're within field goal range at the 29 let's see if they can pick up a few or the first down on Third and long and he drops it just took his eye off of it at the last minute it's a nice adjustment by the defense here with a big lead in the game you're putting extra DBS on the field knowing the offense has to throw to get back in this one in the fourth quarter so your best cover guys on the field and they force an incompletion on the last one will not get there a fourth down stop the offense set for a first down [Applause] play the handoff keep working on that clock they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second 11 wide receiver coming across in motion quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my speed to in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a l and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down and the Mountaineers will try to pin them back with the punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it away fair catch called for and take it at the 30 yd line the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack this offense has pretty much been stuck in the mud the entire game it's been a frustrating performance Jesse Yeah and listen you can't be hanging your head just yet this game's not over this coaching staff is still evaluating their players so if you're on the field right now you've got to finish this game you've got to try to prove something to them well the game is over to be clear they're not coming back but I I hear what you're saying keep fighting keep showing your coaches it matters and maybe find something positive here late that you can build on for the weeks of they were trying to find the edge there by swinging it out to the right but there was no room to front yeah in order for that play to work they're going to have to get better blocking up front those receivers and tight ends they've got to do a better job getting ah hat on had and give that running back a chance to go somewhere with the quick timeout called by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible maybe this will breathe a little life into this offense which has been flatlined in the second half here's first and 10 grabbed in the back field it's brand and a quick completion and even quicker loss the defense was right there to knock him down well there was really nowhere to go for the quarterback with that football he's just trying to check it down to his running back and the defense was there and they made the play with the catch it's Washington put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the chains with the first down and the youths come to the line with a new set of downs and I love when you understand when I'm supposed to put some RPMs on that football you could tell he's thrown over the middle of the field he knows he's got Defenders there I got to throw this thing in there quick fast in a hurry nice job by the quarterback and this defense has put a game together like it is hard to put all the facets of Defense together run defense pass defense they've been so good man dialed in you could tell they were ready they were fast they were physical they dominated this football game they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone makes the grab works his way to the four yd line and they'll have it first and goal the offense gets a quick timeout at this point and every second is precious the UTS are threatening on first and goal Wilson will throw looking for the score he makes the catch at the endone touchdown Utah and a nice touchdown continuing to fight continuing to play this one it's pretty much over down multiple possessions this late in the football game it would take a miracle but nice job by this offense continuing to fight push the ball down the field make [Applause] plays how about this a two-point conversion coming trying to pound it in dives into the end zone for the two-point conversion a 70 yd touchdown drive and they CA the drive with a four yd touchdown pass they're definitely up against at time running out down two possessions they'll try the onside kick they're on it they recover the onside kick and they get it right back and there's still life in this team obviously they're down here in the fourth quarter but they're able to execute the onside kick they retain possession and now let's see what happens trying to get everybody set with the clock still running I think in this situation 2 minutes trailing late I think you got to be thrown to the sticks every time I don't know if these short completions are going to get it done you're just not going to have enough time to get down the field so from a play calling standpoint I think you want to think about being a little bit more aggressive shotgun snap on third down a deep throw as the clock winds down picked off he'll try to take it back and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception that should be the nail in the cofin what a great break on the football getting the big turnover you got the lead now just go out there be smart on offense and run that clock their work here is virtually done no need to take any more chances they'll line up in Victory formation and with the game all but decided this quarterback will take a knee after the stumble earlier this year a lot of people wrote this team off people might be searching for spots on the bandwagon again now yeah give this coaching staff a lot of credit too Reese because they made a few tweaks and adjustments schematically to their personnel as well and they've really now seemed to find a nice Rhythm and it's hard to find that early in the season but the good teams figure out who they are what they do well and you can tell they're starting to get in a Groove figure out who does what well and maximize that and accentuate that that's going to do it for us from here for Jesse Palmer David Pollock I'm ree
