Looking up at the Clouds: Michael Harris II continues the Legacy of his best friend

DJ Michael Harris II is fresh off the injured list and his impact is already being felt whether that's batting lead off again for the Atlanta Braves or hitting a grand slam into mccovy Cove in San Francisco but it's the impact of a close friend that he keeps around his neck every single game that motivates Harris before he even takes the field all he has to do is look up first thing I do when I come out here uh before a game I I lay down and I'm looking straight up and I can see clouds why do we look up Harris reaches up and he's got it for some it's for Faith What A Catch by Michael Harris for baseball players it can be a celebration is the hometown hero today for brave center fielder Michael Harris II It's a combination of both something you can see every day and I guess you can get a quick reminder and I guess sometimes smile and and just know that he's he's looking down on me and he's always got uh my support the hometown kid Michael Harris grew up in Suburban Atlant with another Michael who shared a similar dream he wanted to be a veterinarian I did too uh he wanted to play baseball I did too so it's crazy his name is Michael my name is Michael so we we kind of just had a lot of the same interest they did a lot of things together um because they were two Michaels was always Michael Harris or Michael Cloud Michael Harris or Michael Cloud but in the summer of 2016 one of those dreams tragically came to an end he was killed on impact um there was a driver who was um driving 86 mes mil per hour and he T-boned him in the car and um that's uh how he was killed actually once I got the information and I started asking who else was in the car with him um because they told me that another child was in the car so literally my first thought was Michael Harris because they did so much together long story short I was supposed to be in the car with him when it happened and uh got the news and a few of us walked down to the house so it was just I guess a rough time at that point but just hearing the news and and knowing I was supposed to to be there with him was was kind of kind of hard although he physically lost a friend that day Michael Harris's connection to Michael Cloud lives on I got asked to do a custom piece and I was like why not why not do a cloud um it's got some meaning to me and I mean it looks it looks nice so yeah I decided to get that in 2019 20120 early 2020 uh I guess ever since I don't really take it off recently just used the Bat with his name on it got three hits it wasn't me it was him so why does Michael Harris look up it could be in celebration for his faith but certainly for the legacy of a dear friend yeah I think about that I think about his mom coming to the games all the time uh my family and just just the younger generation that I'm playing for the very first game I came to um he laid down and it's almost like what he does this like Angel kind of thing on the ground and I'm like wow you know brought tears to my eyes I enjoy watching him when he comes out at the beginning of the game look up to the heavens and for me it feels like he may not have meant it for me but it's a little something special that I feel like I can share with him cuz I know what that means now there is a Michael Cloud Jr Foundation that was created by his mother candy to help out African-American youth with their education so lots of different ways that Harris's late best friend is having his Legacy remember at truest Park miles Garrett Fox 5 sports
