speaking of not going there dude my man Jordan Montgomery has just had enough and he's telling it like it is and he's saying that uh Boris did not go there for him and in fact Boris obviously kind of butchered it so I'm just trying to move on from the off season and trying to forget it that is paraphrasing Jordan Montgomery's own words but uh he's pissed bro he has been demoted I believe I don't know if you call it demotion but he's been moved to the bullpen um and I think it's going to save them uh them as the Diamondbacks two and a half million maybe five million uh from his yeah from what he's owed and uh yeah man it's tough um I believe that this was his first off season with uh boris's agency um yeah he switched to Boris Corp for this specific off seon yeah um and then it bounces immediately after after he didn't get the contract I feel for him dude I really do just you know who hasn't been by their boss you know but I guess that is kind of the wrinkle of it right uh is that your agent is supposed to be working for you um and in fact uh another player uh that shared Montgomery's now former agent of Scott Boris Blake snow uh said he thinks that it's sad that uh Jordan feels this way uh which you know I think you can take off the bat a couple of ways um I think some people might hear that and go like he's being a company man he's kind of throwing his you know fellow player under the bus uh we all know it wasn't uh an ideal position for these guys to skip spring training try and push for the dollar but um yeah man we've heard a lot about teams colluding perhaps uh payment for a lot of players so I don't fault Montgomery one bit for trying to get max value out of his contract after winning the World Series you know all this and that um and I do think he has a point to feel screwed a little bit um by Boris because I you know what dude I think he really might have been getting shined on for the uh the prettier horse in The Pageant you know Blake Snell yeah I mean it's very possible that he was being used as sort of like bartering chip to to get because I remember in the offseason it was um the Yankees were like one of the teams where people were saying oh snow's going to end up with the Yankees like a six-year you know 150 type of deal there was all sorts of things thrown out there remember those pre-season um free agency predictions like oh Montgomery is GNA get four and 80 where Snell's going to get six and 150 Bellinger is going to get eight and 200 yeah it was none of those things Happ nuts every none of those things happen Ben everybody Nightingale you name them but the question is is this did Boris overplay his hand or was he never going to get those contracts to begin with was the was the market sort of colluding against these players a little bit not allowing them to get these types of contracts if your name wasn't Yos shinobu Yamamoto or Sho Otani or Tyler glass now or whoever like were were you were they just not going to give out these contracts this off season was it just not going to happen because the free agent Market kind of did thin as soon as Yamamoto went off the board and you know for Snell specifically I wonder if he'd be singing a little bit of a different tune right now if he was having a bad season because he was off to a bad start with the Giants not just bad start absolute dog yeah and he was he was like uh I'm pretty sure like they they they like put him on the iil or something he didn't start until like way late he started very late into the year and then went on the iil but he might be singing a different tune but so I could see it two different ways like do I think that Montgomery would be saying this right now if he wasn't moved to the bullpen probably probably not yeah but like look at this contract he signed like you said it's incentive Laden and he's losing money by the fact that he's going to the bullpen he's not going to make a certain amount of starts now he's not going to pitch a certain amount of innings he's going to lose money because of it and like Boris couldn't get that guaranteed money so I could understand why that would frustrate you but on on on from Snell's standpoint I could understand what he's saying it's like hey man like so what you're basically saying is is that I should have just gotten my gu guaranteed money and the Diamond Backs would have to live with me pitching like dog so I could sort of understand it a little bit from the other side where it's like hey like you also still need to keep pitching well you know like I understand that you just earned it you won the World Series and you pitched well but like you still need to continue pitching well like now more than ever if anything if you want to get that contract I know you're probably not going to get it but you get what I'm saying definitely I think that uh sorry to cut you off but yeah I think it's one of those things where I'm pissed off if I'm Jordan Montgomery and I think every every single one of us would be to right but there's two ways to look at it is what I'm saying there there is absolutely another side of it absolutely and I do feel like that's fair and I think what Blake is saying is completely fair dude like I think it's okay that they were represented by the same guy and had a different experience they're different people that's why you know nobody has a perfect five stars on Yell everybody has a variant experience but I think that that being said Jordan has every right to be pissed off maybe his normal rhythm in preparation for a season was thrown off maybe he was following up every day and the anxiety of not having a deal done was racking him up and maybe it was annoying uh Boris and dude those guys speculating I'm not saying this is even a possibility I don't know these guys I don't break bread but we've all been picked around by our boss before or somebody we've worked with trying to get something done that's important to you and you're kind of getting just strung along in what I believe is a you know very difficult uh you know it's very difficult Waters to navigate you know free agency to begin with um but yeah to do it with a new guy for the first time and you're trying to swing for the fences and you just come up short you definitely got to feel like you just cut at the knee going now next year I got to do another show me season you know granted he's still going to get paid $25 million he's got a player option so he's going to make about $50 million over the you know over two seasons you don't feel terrible for him but again this is a guy that was looking at you know trying to get five plus years and right off that Sunset and I think um that what Snell is saying about how that Boris got everything that he possibly could basically that that Boris was like honest and up front is true from Snell's point of view I think it's totally possible that Snell might have been getting uh all the honest answers maybe Montgomery wasn't because like you mentioned it is possible that Boris was using Montgomery to drive up the price on Snell a little bit cuz he you know he these two bartering chips these are the two best pitchers remaining on the market and it's possible that Montgomery feels like he was like uh a victim of that second but I also think if I'm Jordan Montgomery I would have to and I'm his new agent I would have to tell him hey like there's a chance that you weren't ever going to get the contract no matter who your representation was because just of where the the the where we were this off season the Yankees were willing to spend 200 plus million on or 300 million on y Moto you know they weren't willing to even spend 150 on Snell just remember like the Yankees had that offer out there for Snell and Snell Boris rejected it so like the fact that Snell is defending Boris is a little perplexing you know what Jess dude I I think you just kind of nailed something right like we're talking about I don't want to say feelings but we're talking about like baseball decisions and stuff but but you know with contracts and money but like yeah when it comes to business business decisions you know like Yamamoto he doesn't get 300 million because he's a young a 25-year-old Ace you know coming out of Oklahoma City or whatever uh it's because he's an international star and it's a business decision to lock up International markets and you know advertising and sponsorships and what have you so to your point you know when a snell isn't getting 150 million it's like sorry dude like your Twitch stream doesn't pull in that much and like my memory it's like it's almost like this is kind of a sign of the times like you either got to be a superstar or you got to have a little crossover appeal or some sort of broader appeal to justify these contracts and it's not because these billionaires are short for cash but it's all about that Roi return on investment and godamn it was there some colluding to make sure prices were across the league we saw how many veteran players just show up and you know get minor league deals or contracts to the white socks or Marlins just you know couple couple games into the season yeah it's just crazy but I have the answer for you but like you said they got that big dollars for the for the right business decision and not just that but if it's about statistical output and just getting a good pitcher for your team mhm like if you want to know like look at what the Royals did the Royals signed Michael waa two years 32 million he's their he's their Ace right now they signed Seth Lugo three years 45 million he's been one of the best pitchers in baseball he has had a rough last few starts though yeah but what I'm saying but so has Jordan Montgomery I mean what I'm saying is is like if that's the quality of pitcher that you're getting like there's I teams are better at ident if Ying value than they've ever been before this is the era of identifying value that's what Moneyball has done that's what I was talking about last week everybody's good at it now that they hired they had they build these departments specifically for this where it's like the Royals signed Seth Lugo to 45 million it's like and look what happened now they're in the playoff hunt they signed Michael waa like two years now they're in the playoff hunt it's like what do does does does Jordan Montgomery put butts in seats more than Michael Waka no they put the same amount of butts and seats cuz they're not Superstars they're just good pitchers and it's like that's what you got the exact same thing but waca wasn't the sexy name in the off season Montgomery was and what teams correctly identified was like Hey I could probably find another Jordan Montgomery for a little bit less than what they're asking for dude I think he nailed it you honestly I really think that's what it is dude well said this is basically the 2008 financial crisis all over again and our pets heads are falling off
