so as the election draws ever closer controversy and Donald Trump are becoming pretty much synonymous the latest controversy broke out on Monday at the Arlington National Cemetery Trump was participating in an event to Mark the third anniversary of a deadly attack on US troops in Afghanistan as its forces withdrew from the country the visit which was intended to draw attention to the very chaotic American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 under Joe Biden reportedly turned into an altercation the ra broke out after a symmet official reportedly tried to prevent Trump staffers from filming and photographing in a section where recent American casualties are buried the area of the cemetery is in fact called section 16 and Trump's campaign staff allegedly verbally abused and pushed the official aside as he tried preventing them from entering section 16 now taking to his social media side truth social Trump shared a statement from the family members of the Fallen Soldiers expressing their approval I think it should be the same we agreed to the same rules but according to a statement from the Arlington National cemetry federal law prohibits political campaigning or election related activities within the Army's National military cemetaries however Trump's campaign spokesperson has rejected report of a physical altercation ever taking place instead he claims that a person suffering from some kind of a mental health issue tried to block team Trump members interestingly the Trump campaign has declined to make that footage immediately available however the Arlington National Cemetary has said that it can confirm that there was indeed an incident and a report has been filed meanwhile Trump's running mate JD Vance also got embroiled in the Arlington symmetry controversy on Wednesday this after he said that Harris can in fact go to hell for her symmetry criticism interestingly Kamala Harris had not issued any criticism or the controversy the Kamala Harris is Spokes person campaign spokesperson Michael tler issued a statement on the controversy before Vance's misu Wednesday remark natala said that the Symmetry incident was pretty sad but not surprising coming from the Trump team now the Harris campaign is yet to respond to vances Wednesday's coms all right give us more perspective in terms of what is happening at this moment in American politics we're being joined by Professor Henry Brady who's a professor of political science and public policy at the University of California Berkeley and Professor is joining us on the broadcast this moment now Professor Brady thank you very much indeed for joining us here in Von and now everyone knows that Donald Trump thrives on controversy but considering what has happened at the Arlington National Cemetery where he was trying to make a film of something that was objected to there was a reported on tication the video of this is of course not available do you think this is the kind of controversy that actually helps Trump or does it actually go on to to go against the Trump campaign well that's one of the big questions right now uh it for years Donald Trump has thrived on controversy no matter how negative or positive it now seems like some of the negative controversy is coming back and actually hurting him uh that's partly because KLA Harris and her running mate are running a campaign of joy and happiness and let's think about the future let's not dwell on the past and it seems like somehow that is really uh causing uh Mr Trump troubles uh and creating difficulties for him in capitalizing as he has on the past on controversy now Kamala Harris herself has been campaigning in the state of Georgia Georgia of course voted for the Democrats in 2020 but before that it had voted for a Democrat candidate that was way back in the 1992 and it is G a substantial number of black people who reside in the state of Georgia do you think Kamala Harris is actually hitting the right cords so that the Democrats can win Georgia again well I think it's possible and I think what that's what's most extraordinary about the last four or five weeks in American politics is we've gone from a situation where it looked like Joe Biden the incumbent president was going to lose for sure to Donald Trump by quite a bit and then suddenly we had a change of candidate and then suddenly the uh popular vote polling for the presidency switched dramatically in favor of KLA Harris so that she's now two or three percentage points ahead whereas Biden was two or three percentage points behind now the popular vote doesn't decide things what decides things in America is what's called The Electoral count which is votes assigned to each state and Georgia is one of those States and it has been a crucial what we call a swing state um although it was a swing state that was more prone to go Republican than Democrat so the fact that she's there suggests that she has some confidence that she's going to do pretty well in other swing States and that she can look at the one that's really quite marginal at this point which is Georgia all right well I leave there thank
