Jared and that's fine just got here and he's kind of laid back he's a corner you know he's a he's a jet pilot jet fighter pilot he's he's a little bit different uh but it might be verse verse is the guy that's not afraid to drag you into a street fight rookie but that's okay sometimes they're special out of the gate I think he might be one of them every play that happened if it was close to the they ultimately found a starter at that position in a similar starting spot with Spates you can get lucky you can find London Fletcher an undrafted guy you plug in and he turns out to be better than you think and he plays 16 years doesn't miss a game uh that could be Omar Spates but it also could be an absolute disaster what I did know is Ernest Jones was the best middle linebacker you had on this football team and now he's gone you know what else I know what and I'm I'm not trying to be flip they don't mess around the Rams yep yeah I know they they're you're not going to have a staring con contest with them and win like if you if you are noisy bye I see here's what I don't know I'm gonna find out because I'm gonna talk to him what were you asking for yeah cuz that's that's what I that word today requested um he got one today yes Rams and Titans are in agreement on a trade for Ernest Jones no specificity of what the Rams get Titans get besides that probably picks um otherwise they probably would have said uh what is coming the Rams way so I know you're going to hit that waiver wire yeah I know you're that waiver wire give me let's for the sake of this conversation the Rams defense with Ernest Jones your expectation for what it could have been give me a letter grade for that is that a b defense I thought they're going to be B Young and they're going to be young and they're going to make a lot of young mistakes they're also going to make make a lot of young big plays too okay fast defense now what without him what is it you're kind of rudderless right now is it worse than a c I'll give them a c i mean you you still have a pretty good front your front is going to be pretty good no matter who's behind them but you still have to deal with San Fran twice a year that's what it takes to to win a division and this is not something you want to go to without a an experienced middle linebacker so that's what I'm you're going to hit the waiver wire at some point I I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that this is how it ended up because this is how they handle their business when they get somebody that doesn't want to be there they're not there very long right they they they girly gone goof gone uh there's no two cam Acres gone Ernest Jones gone like they they're not playing with that but I really thought that maybe this might be the expect the crazy like if they didn't do this trade would Ernest Jones just play the rest of the season yes so then why would what choice would he have right why would you do the trade if you think they don't do noisy I just it doesn't make any sense I I'm with you unless what they're getting back is something super valuable to well but what you're getting back is not going to be here for a while if it's piss two years from now in the fifth round which you know the Rams have done pretty well in the late rounds of the draft they found puka in the fifth round last year they found some good players deeper in there was an impass and it's it's in and I'm looking up Tennessee's personnel and Rand carthon I know him very well he was their GM I think he and lesne overlapped uh so there's a great relationship they did so hey look I got an issue uh he's not happy we need to send him some place they need help so it makes it makes sense this seems like a a favor type thing you know what I mean a favor for your best linebacker they have they have reached an impass he thinks he's worth X they're willing to pay Y and it's going to be a problem all year and I'll tell you this you don't have time for distractions man I guess not but like this is this is where I keep coming back to we're not going to give you what you want you can either not play or play for us he's going to play well maybe he doesn't that's what I'm saying maybe he doesn't if if you give him that ultimatum and I've heard this with other coaches uh it used to be the coaches would just tell us to do something and we do it now you have to tell these players why so if you push him to that situation either you're going to play or you're not he might not he may sit at home and then you've got a problem I I got maybe DeMarco you you know the man more than I do but here the guy's a football player he wants to make money he wants to get the bag he wants to go out there and do if I said to you and by the way the the clock is ticking on every athlete right you you know you only get so many chances to go do this and I get that he won't like it but I really don't think a lot of guys are going to choose not to play well I don't know how this Situation's better going to Tennessee are they going to pay him what he wants that's what I'm saying I mean it's going to be the same situation there it's just not here that's what I'm saying if you're trading a guy like Ernest it was it was beyond it was not going to get fixed you burnt the bridge something happened so that's why he's not here and there's there is a Green Dot for the Rams defense which we've talked about a couple times it's not just the person who's the leader but he's also helping to do commands on the field sure uh she says she can see Quinton Lake uh or Cam curl that over and this player obviously has to be on the field full time in the short term Breer and Hummel will have to have done it too so not exactly yeah I think uh Quinton lake is a good player can play a lot of different positions but this is a guy that was struggling to get on the field last year at certain points he's going to play a lot I know he is but again this isn't somebody that's been embedded in this defense for a long Cameron curl came from Buffalo he's brand new too like You' you've got these guys that are not not that they're not good players but usually that leadership role comes from somebody that's been around the block once or twice that kind of knows and understands what it is that you're asking to do that this is going to go to somebody who's a relatively new starter or relatively newcomer or a rookie like you were suggesting earlier that means a leadership void to me that that means that there's nobody willing to to not willing but ready and just the obvious choice to slide into that role Green Dot as a safety is hard you're in the back end man I mean you got to communicate everything going forward I mean the best spot for it is your lineb backer he's right in the middle he can turn talk to the safety turn talk to the front he knows everything uh and he was going to be out there every single play so that's just that's you're losing a lot of leadership going forward without a guy like Ernest Jones and that's just it's it's impossible to replace how do you avoid it like and I'm not even talking about Ernest Jones specifically I don't think you can is that is it just is I want this this is what I think I'm worth and the team saying understand what you think we think something very different and we just can't is there a way to work around that okay personal experience okay so I was there in the room when the Rams brass told Kevin Carter if you do X Y and Z we will pay you we will give you another contract
